This application seems well thought out, and the format is, needless to say, frankly easy on the eyes which is amazing! I also applied with a Skrell lacking 'ambition' until she found her passion of course! I do, however, have a question for you. How will you try to show this character concept on station? It's a very interesting idea, and I'd love to see it in play but I was just wondering how you'd do it. +1. Good app, nicely formatted.

Possible Origin for the Dionae Editors note: Translated to Basic. Dionae were previously thought to not have an origin, however, recent archaeological findings point to the contrary. Skrell Archaeobotanists, for the last twenty years, have been studying the celestial bodies within the a region called 'The Clash'. Epsilon Ursae Minoris, by the JVSS Qu'Rii, is one of these such planets. Epsilon Ursae Minoris (EUM) hosted over a thousand Dionae, which had pooled together to create a makeshift communications tower that lured the Skrellian Explorers down. It was when Captain Weirun Tup disappeared, but more likely to have been assimilated by these peaceful giants, that further studying of the region began. Skrell Archaeobotanists spread out from Epsilon Ursae Minoris (EUM) specifically towards the more untouched regions of the Orion Spur, and it was here that the numerous findings over the last two decades have finally been exposed. Further out the region, there are star-systems littered, including those that harbour planets capable of supporting the xenoflora found on Epsilon Ursae Minoris as well as similar ones found in the region. There are currently six different star-systems that each have been identified to have had Dionae at one stage in their lifespans, DA 5511 (Tiigeda), DA 6674 (Uros), MD 66311 (Werlit), DA 1123 (Liaackfa), MD 77854 (Exhoex) and HR 44217 (Xardenu). These star systems are noted to be abnormally bright and radioactive. There have been a total of one-hundred-and-thirty fossilized nymphs found across these systems, each dating back to over a thousand years ago. It is currently unknown whether these nymphs would have had a society similar to that of what was found on Epsilon Ursae Minoris (EUM) or rather an entirely unique one. Each system appears to be in a similar period of their lifespan, and are expected to go supernova within a couple hundred years of one another. Experts suspect that this is what drew the Dionae Cetus (possibly Titan) to the region, and possibly solidifies the fact many of the Dionae found within this section of the Orion Spur share a common cluster origin. Dionae would have lived life with many of their basic needs fulfilled being soaked in cosmic radiation, as well as the extreme brightness of the Stars. Many Skrell Archaeobotanists have begun to theorise that the region, at one stage, would have been one of the brightest segments in this section of the Orion Spur thus luring the Diona Cetus, or Titan. Some speculate that Dionae may have been designed by a precursor civilization to assist in terraforming efforts, but many find this theory lacking in any factual evidence, more so outright claiming it to be conjecture. Others wait in anticipation for more data to be revealed on the findings, which would give us a glance into the past of the Dionae found in 'The Clash'.

+1 I suck at NTSL2, but Java I actually know my way around. I'd imagine there would be security concerns, however.

Might be easier to advertise this via the Discord relays. Not a lot of folks lurk the forum like the Staff do.

This seems like cool, and I wouldn't mind helping in terms of the CCIAA side of it (if Father Lancer doesn't mind). I'd definitely want to participate in some way. We also have a Head of Staff discord, if you need volunteers. [TwV9MZ4]

BYOND Key: Caelphon Character Names: https://imgur.com/8iqYbkw Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: likely a light sandy colour. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, I have recently begun to look into Scottish history - and frankly I’m intrigued, and I wondered if such a thing would be used for Tajaran, but alas I decided against it. I looked towards other species that the server has to offer and I soon discovered the Unathi. I love everything there is about them - specifically the ‘societal outcasts’ and female parts of the lore. I began to find myself liking the lore more and more as I continued to read it, and discussed it with other Unathi Whitelistees and honestly - this species has my heart for the time being. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi are very different from role-playing a Human, due to their society and their biological features. Unathi are a very patriarchal species - and treat woman vastly different to Humans. Typically, an Unathi male will view a woman as a property of another Unathi male (be that their father, or husband), which is vastly different to humans as if you told a female human this they'd likely whack you across the face. Unathi are also a very traditionalist species, and this can be seen across how they have different castes (similar to Tajaran) and how each should be approached differently. An Unathi would treat a Guwan similarly to how humans would treat slaves back in the 1600's - possibly just above such. Unathi also value their souls to an extent that none of the other species aboard the Aurora do, and anything that can destroy their immortal soul is taboo (see Aut'akh and Robots), so they react different to Skrell to these things. Character Name: Alfarzi Uzzioks (Guwan) Please provide a short backstory for this character: Alfarzi was hatched in a small village during Kasavakh 2443, in the mountainious areas surrounding Res'Karum. She was hatched into a world that had been engulfed by atomic hell-fire, and not even her Clan had been spared of such (even if Res'karum was spared the majority of the damage). Her Clan had spent many of the first few months attempting to placate the Izwezki forces that patrolled through the small village - enroute to the battlefield just east of Res'karum. The days the bombs fell were horrific. Although Alfarzi had not been hatched, she knew the bombs caused great grievances for her Clan - many of the male Unathi that had been drafted into the Izwezki forces had been slaughtered in the heinous bombs. Alfarzi is thankful that she was born into a world after the bombs, for she didn't have to go through the grief much of her clan went through in the first few years. She was the only hatchling of the Patriarch and the Matriarch of Uzzioks ever had. Alfarzi was taught from young the ways of her clan - however, she was mostly tutored by her mother the ways of the dutiful wife. She spent many days in the kitchen - and it paid off, as members of her clans described her ability to cook as masterful and clearly a gift from Sk'akh. When Alfarzi had reached the age of five, she was sent to stay and study with her Aunt Zsuz within the boundaries of Res'Karum. Alfarzi was pushed daily - further and further passed her limits. It was during this time that she found solace in her prayers to Sk'akh, it was here that her faith in Sk'akh was stregnthened. The months prior to the Wife Competition, Alfarzi was continually pushed by her clan. She was pushed harder to be graceful - to be the very best in order to save her clan. The day of the Competition she battled against the surrounding clan's best females. The Competiton was lengthy, and riddled her with anxiety, all she wanted to do was get it over and done with. It was towards the end, her final dance secured her triumphant win. Her Father was offered arrangements by many suitors - before finally arranging the marriage with Clan Izuous Patriarch. Alfarzi's marriage was made official on the eve of Versakh. Many remarked that the ceremony was beautiful - as her Clan (Uzzioks) crafted brilliant embroideries and tappestries that were draped across the halls. She had been married to the heir of the Clan Izuous, K'szi. Shortly after their ceremony, they moved to the city of Janvir. She found herself surrounded by Th'akh, and felt isolated. She spent nights in solitude praying to Sk'akh for more followers to make themselves known. Alfarzi's first few months were spent in the manor - leaving only make minor appearances with her husband K'szi. It was after an attempted break into the Manor that lead to the hiring of a Guwan Guard called Zu'Izo. Her was staioned towards the entrance of the Manor - and routinely patrolled around the property. It was a few weeks after his hiring that the Guwan and Alfarzi learnt that they both shared Sk'akh, and believed her prayers had been answered. They began to converse, and slowly after the course of a few more weeks they forme a somewhat friendship of sorts. This lead to speculation amongst the servants - stating that she was having an affair with the Guwan Guard, but of course she remained faithful to her husband. On an early evening in the middle of Travakh, K'szi, was working in his study before suddenly he began errupting into coughing and spluttering before dying. Many believe he was poisoned - however, Alfarzi had noted he had begun to show signs of illness many weeks earlier after injuring himself- his sleep cycle will irregular, he had not eaten a proper meal for almost as long and had his temperature skyrocket during the night. Zu'Izo was the only one within the study - and so was accused of killing the Unathi and shortly thereafter the rumours of the of an affair between the Guwan and her grew out of control and had now seemed to implicate her in the supposed murder plot. Alfarzi fled the city of Janvir on one of the Azkrazal on the properties - heading in the direction the nearest spaceport (Camp Sk'ahs Glory). She couldn't go back to her Clan, and she knew if she remained on Moghes that she would be cast out of society and left to roam the Wastelands until the ends of her days. It was not the life she wanted, it was not the life she had been tailored to live. She knew the only way to move forward was to flee Moghes - and so she did. Alfarzi without a second thought threw herself into Camp Sk'akh's Glory nearest NanoTrasen recruitment office eventually being signed on as a Chef for them. It was the same day she signed onto NanoTrasen that she was shuttled off Moghes to the Republic, she never did make it to her Court Appointment. … Two years had since passed, and Alfarzi still held herself in great shame. She had ceased to pray - for the sins committed against Sk'akh were unforgiveable, and no amount of prayer would cover her shame. She knew back on Moghes she was a guwan, but she kept her Clan's name - hoping never again to return to Moghes or else she'd shame her family even more. She lived hand-to-mouth existance, and often would take home unfinished meals that she had given to patrons. Alfarzi never forgave herself for fleeing - she knew what she did was stupid, and only brought shame. She knew had she stayed and atleast attempted to defend her name there may have been a chance, but it is in the past. She sends majority of her paycheck back to her Clan, keeping only scraps to afford her apartment on the NTCC Odin. What do you like about this character? Shes a tough cookie - and she has lost everything. She knows, unless she builds herself back up from the ashes, she’ll die a fool - for otherwise everything she has done has been in vain. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I do not enjoy numbers, but I believe I can accurately portray the species whilst aboard the NSS Aurora.

I'd have to agree with what @GreenBoi has stated, Research is a heavily sensetive area (mechanically, meh - but with Lore they likely had some sort of Bluespace/Phoron Science that is super valuable to steal). Necropolis seems to cut a few characters out, but you mentioned it doesn't say anywhere that they shoot their owns weapons - so I dont see why removing them would be an issue.

Oh! I thought I commented on this, seems I didn't! I think Lily is quite a good roleplayer, and shows such in her trial - just look at the positive feedback shes received. Shes typically quick to want to assist her Scientists (even the ones that wanna blow the Station up ... hehe, phoron salts). I hope to see you with more characters soon! +1 -

I'd love to learn, just wondering whether when the lessons would be? Typically, I am busy during the day but free at nights (thanks to COVID, I'm free 24/7 but not sure how long this lockdown might last).

[Accepted]Caelphon's Diona Lore Deputy Application
Caelphon replied to Caelphon's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I enjoyed reading this! It makes me feel as though Diona are incorporated more in the lore - allowing more awesome concepts to make. I've already thought about three or four new concepts in regards to this new release! The increased surveilance was the path that I wanted to take, but it seems this was already in the cogs. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this new segment of lore, and I'd love to help work on it to increase it, especially the Empire of Dominia - they seem to revere the Diona akin to nobility (or the equivalent) which I think is quite cool. -
[Accepted]Caelphon's Diona Lore Deputy Application
Caelphon replied to Caelphon's topic in Developer Applications Archives
1. Well, considering I believe it was my sillyness that intitially caused the whole thing (my misunderstanding of the lore, but you helped clear that up). I have for it really, they're primarily based on plants, and as we all know plants arnt exactly hulk (some are, but thats the exception). If I had magic fingers that knew how to code, I'd structure them to take increased damage to laser weapons and fire, but decreased damage to ballistics considering how they're capable of plugging the holes in relatively quickly (in terms of sufficient radiation is supplied). 2. Diona should be invested in affairs regarding other factions in the Aurora setting to a minor extent in some and a major extent in others. In species such as the Tajaran, I don't really believe they have a place. Tajaran have gone through countless wars, and frankly I don't think they'd accept a big plant doing anything but being put into a stew. In other species, like Skrell, I think that Diona should be mentioned way more than they are - They're essentially the labourers that allowed Skrell to advance and not waste time mining, among other menial jobs. Diona should be deeply entrenched in Skrell lore, especially during the reconstruction period (as well as if there is a rework with Skrell First-Contact and History) and should from the get go immidiately be subjected to almost indetured work conditions by humans (what do humans typically do when they find another race/species they don't exactly look like? Enslave them). 3. No. Currently most of *my* roleplay stems from their physiology, besides acting extremely freaking and terrifying thanks to their background (the short paragraph regarding the Ophion Incident). If I could, I'd like to expand on their history, especially with Unathi and Skrell (along the lines of symbiosis). 4. I think there needs to be a lot more restrictions placed on them, as I mentioned above in my response to Neinna. Diona are 8ft, and look like nothing anyone has ever seen before - and its not like they're walking across Tau Ceti like the other species. They're in small clusters, and typically rate (to my understanding) outside of the workplace. I believe that additional restrictions, and commendations should be aquired before a Diona should be elevated to a Head of Staff. -
[Accepted]Caelphon's Diona Lore Deputy Application
Caelphon replied to Caelphon's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Thank you Nienna! 1. In regards to the 'give-and-take' approach, I certainly believe this is something achievable. I'd argue that the Diona are incredibly intelligence, and resourceful - but are something to be wary of, similar to discrimination of the IPC. Not everyone treats IPC as an equal, but a handful do. I'd like to incorporate this into my idea, and go forward with saying that most of the Diona on the NSS Aurora would have undergone rigorous testing, both intellectually and an socially, in order to best determine if they'd fit aboard the Aurora. I also believe it can be balanced by instituting that new Diona HAVE to start in introductory jobs (Medical Resident, Engineering Apprentice etc etc), and have to receive a minimum of three commendations before being increased to their desired role. If a Diona wishes for a Command position (I believe the CMO, Research Director and Liason should remain as they do) they'd require a further 3 commendations (similar to the NanoTrasen Miranda Trasen Scholarship) and a CCIA Interview (it doesnt actually have to take place, but a small note). I don't wish for this (if I do become deputy) to just drop this over one day. I want to institute a long-drawn out process (cause Diona be slow) and subtly introduce new themes and questions in regards to Diona, but I believe the aforementioned balance plans will help deal with the issues presented by 'xenoman bad' because these Diona arn't just HERE. They've been tested, and they've been given chances to prove their worth - but this still allows for slight racism (or stereotyped opinions) for Diona, aka "Look at that thing, a ... killer, a cold-hearted killer. Did you hear what it did to the [insert name here]?" TL;DR I'd put the Diona in cold water, and slowly up the temperature until it reaches boiling point. This would allow for relations between crew (akin to what I said earlier, not all Skrell hate IPC for example) but still slowly seep racism into the crew so its a pro-longed alteration to the lore. 2. I actually enjoy writing, especially when I have to write persuasive essays - but I do see where you come from in regards to not burning out. I honestly can't say how I can ensure I don't burn out, but I'll try my damn hardest not to. I've gone through worse conditions (typicaly highschool and deadlines haha) so I think I'll be alright. -
Ckey/BYOND Username: Caelphon Position Being Applied For: Deputy Lore developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: I am a member of my school's journalism club, so I guess that goes for past experiences? I typically get an 'A' for my creative writing essays, and roughly either an 'A' or 'B' for my history essays. Examples of Past Work: My only 'lore' examples of past work is my Whitelist Applications. If needed, I do not mind writing an essay in regards to Diona. Additional Comments: To answer Yonnimer's question; https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cI-39Gyk84W5OhPROm83rD4h830oWOredqLpnsKUrkg/edit?usp=sharing a neat document, instead of scrolling through everything. Currently, I feel as though the lore for Diona is lacklustre at some points. For a cryptic species, they seem to be quite well understood - which slightly rubs me in the wrong way (to no offense to you!). I do believe that for a species that is older than Skrell their history is quite brief, and there isn't really any additional information regarding their relationships with other species (besides Skrell and Unathi). I did, however, thoroughly enjoy reading about the 'Ophion Incident' - it made Diona terrifying, and frankly thats how I've always thought of them, Knowledge Seeking Devourers. The Diona can devastate ships, as they move through space with ease and can be described as a fish? If I was in a ship and I saw this, I'd turn my bluespace engines to the max and gtfo. In the Diona Information Uplink, it mentions how Skrell have given 'undiscriminate' orders to destroy structures like these. I dont think this is expressed well enough in the current lore, and this is one of the things I'd like to change. I believe Diona should be feared, or atleast discriminated a hell of a lot more than IPC. Another thing that I think is valuable to my paragraph - Stations are instructed to keep an eye on them, should they become hostile for whichever reason - Diona can *snap* to my understanding, and simply choose to be hostile. This freaks me out even more if I was in the vicinity of a typically 8ft tall creature that at any moment can turn hostile and devour me. Yes, I know that they are highly curious creatures, but last time I checked - when a creature is curious they arn't exactly going to be friendly upon first approach, for example a venus flytrap. They sit there with their mouths open, waiting, lying in curiousity to see whether any insects would fly into its maw - SNAP. The Diona were quite literally birthed through impossible means. They credit their existance to 'The Great Void' - These are ALIENS who not only do not look humanoid, nor do they move as such - but they credit their existance to some sort of miracle? Again, I'd be scared of these things. They're capable of turning themselves into beacons - evident by the static detected by Skrell explorers in 2430 If I do get elected as Lore Deputy, I wish to work in turning this species from the casual walking houseplant to a species that are meant to be feared, and discriminated against. Humans first instinct to anything that isn't like them is fear, and I don't see why a species that is completely opposite in ALL ways to them, as someone they can trust. This species is capable of learning all of the universe's combined knowledge in mere days -- The Skrell feared an Intelligence, but don't fear an organic one capable of far more damage than Glorsh? Glorsh relied on synthetics and Skrell bowing to them, Diona rely on only sunshine and radiation. One is extremely easy to get, and the other requires a lot of planning. There is a possibility there is a planet-large form of Diona, that the Skrell have been ordered to engage and kill, and if that doesn't scream that Diona should be feared - then I don't know what else does. Imagine, something as large as Earth itself swimming through space as easily as a fish which is capable of consuming everything (besides Stars) in its path? I would wish for the process to be slow, however. Not just *boom* deadly, but a slow and subtle changes to the Species and they'll slowly become more and more discriminated against. We're more worried about robots, and ant-looking aliens (Vaurca) than a species that does not rely on any other species? They chose to remain with Skrell, they chose to work with the other galatic entities and at a moment's notice they don't have to, because why? They need sunlight and radiation, what use does credits have? Oh! Also more information in relationships, so that it facilitates different approaches to the creature. Right now, everyone currently is friends with them - no matter where they come from. I'd like to work on slowly altering this so people can be given more information regarding how one *might* approach a Diona. The new relations page is really good, as well as the clusters page. I'd like to work on improving this and one day remove the (WIP) tag on most of the clusters. I believe that the Xrim, Royal Garden, The Blossoms of the Great and Divine Eternal and The Viscerabelt are frankly ripe with culture and lore that can expand from these. I think this would be amazing to flesh out, and give more well-known origin to the Diona species.
