  1. I'm in favor of this. I think the CE hardsuit looks too similar to the regular engineering voidsuit for my tastes. Plus, I was always a fan of the Dead Space aesthetic. +1
  2. In my experience they are a competent roleplayer and know what they're doing mechanically. I believe they should be given a shot. +1
  3. I can't think of anyone better qualified for the position. They've contributed to the lore, are active in the lore discord, and have experience as deputy. +1 What's one part of the bug lore you really want to change, but will not, and why? What's the first thing you'll do if you become lore dev? How do you plan to attract more applicants to bug kind?
  4. Thanks for answering my questions. +1 from me. I hope to see you bugging out soon.
  5. One bit of clarification, and two final questions. Viax do matter. The same way a useful tool matters to a craftsman. Which is why, with one brood being the exception (extra credit if you know/figure out which one), Vaurca don't abuse the poor lobotomites. But you are correct that Akaix are viewed as more valuable than Viax. Which is why a Viax will follow any order given by one, even one that would result in the Viax's termination. I was actually told to space myself one time as a Viax. When it comes to motivations, humans can have a variety of reasons for doing the things they do. Which can make determining someone's loyalty a troublesome issue. Why is this not the case with Akaix? How do the Queens guarantee the loyalty of their brood/hive? What is the primary difference between Warriors and Workers, and how will Dax react in certain high stress situations as a result of this difference?
  6. What are some of the unique challenges faced when playing a Viax? (at least 1-2) The potential for VR is one of my favorite aspects of Vaurca too. Especially with their ability to experience time differently while in it. You've essentially talked only about the Viax, but what about the Akaix? Where do Worker Unbound fit into the hive hierarchy? How did Dax feel about sending the majority of its earnings back to the brood?
  7. While I don't see them as much as I would like, they're a great roleplayer and player. They get a +1 from me.
  8. I'm currently applying for command, and the thought occurred to me that the bridge rarely gets used outside of antag related things. This sounds like a good way to make the bridge more accessible.
  9. BYOND key: Lordnesh Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Around half a year or so. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I think I'm ready for the responsibility. Why did you come to Aurora?: Aurora had the right mix of excitement and roleplay that I was looking for. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: Two tempory antag bans and a couple notes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is a form of entertainment wherein you pretend to be something you are not. You can pretend to be something as mundane as a regular human, working a regular job, just trying to exist in the setting. However, you can also be something as unique as an alien species. The only limits are those you impose on yourself, and the limits imposed by the setting. With roleplay you can express yourself in ways that are not possible with other forms of entertainment. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, in-game?: I think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is two-fold. First, they serve as leaders and examples. Specifically, on the sort of behavior that is and isn't acceptable on the server. Secondly, they are there as educators. A Head of Staff should be knowledgeable about their department, which makes them excellent sources of information. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: In addition to the responsibilities listed in the previous paragraph, whitelisted players have one other thing they must take into consideration. Command has access to powerful tools that can change the direction the round takes, so it is up to them to use them wisely. Just because you can shut down an antag thirty minutes into the round, doesn't mean you should. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Between the Phoron shortage, the SCC forming, and a literal hostile invasion things have been a bit hectic in Tau Ceti. Sam had a real nice gig, on Biesel itself, before coming to Aurora. While it didn't pay as well, it didn't come with the added risk of being boarded by Solarian soldiers. Unfortunately, being a company owned IPC means she doesn't really have much choice in the matter. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? CE, CMO, Liaison Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Samantha Higgins - CE How would you rate your own roleplaying?: decent Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes Extra notes:
  10. I've played a couple rounds with them now, and I think they should be given a chance. +1
  11. While I am interested in hearing how people view my bugs, I'm also interested in any feedback in general. What are some things you like about my character(s)? What are some things you don't like about my character(s). What, if anything, is my character(s) lacking? Here are some questions for me. What are some things I should improve on? What are some things I do well? What are some things I do poorly? Please feel free to answer as many, or as few questions, as you want. Alternatively, you can pose a question of your own.
  12. Because as myself and several others have pointed out, we have concerns over your OOC interactions, and you have provided nothing of substance to address our concerns. Other than "it was just a joke" or "it was out of conext". I'm sorry, but "I'll change my behavior if I get this position" is just not good enough. At this point, I don't know that I believe you'll change. From what I've gathered, you have had a long history of consistent behavior that has largely been negative. You don't just flip a switch like that whenever you want.
  13. While I respect your writing abilities and interest in the lore, I have serious concerns about your OOC behavior. Which are only highlighted by your comments here.. I have personally witnessed at least a few instances of you saying things that could only be construed as mean-spirited and rude. And a lot (not all) of your behavior in general appears to be toxic in nature. I personally can never tell if it is just you joking around with friends, or if you're actually being toxic. I have serious reservations in regards to this comment in particular. From my reading of this, it appears as if you are knowingly acting abrasively, and intend to modify your behavior should you be granted a position of authority. Are you suddenly going to start caring about how your actions and comments affect people if you get this position? If that is the case, why don't you care now/before you were elevated to a position of authority?
  14. Artemis goes by feminine pronouns because of two reasons. One, it helps her blend in with humans, and she has a distinct feminine design. Or will. Being the hot new thing she was treated marginally better than most of her synthetic coworkers. This was mostly in the form of carefully curated "extracurricular" activities such as shows and novels. This also served as a way to educate her on current events and things, with the added benefit of improving her bed side manner by being able to reference current events and popular topics. By ignoring her. They couldn't do anything that would risk her expensive frame, so they settled for refusing to interact with her outside of professional settings. Primarily as a primary surgeon for the patients the facility really wanted to impress. Surgeon Not a whole lot from a human's perspective. She lived, worked, and recharged at that facility for the entirety of that time. The monotony was broken up by carefully curated shows and activities. She developed an interest in reading, preferring fantasy over non-fiction or other fiction genres. The maintenance costs were only exorbitant because her employers were willing to spend so much to maintain her in her pristine state. And Artemis is only exorbitant in comparison to basic surgical model IPCs. NT paid a little bit more upfront, and will pay a little bit more in maintenance, for a high class medical IPC. As part of the selling process she had all the proprietary information scrubbed from her memory. This, unfortunately, didn't resolve the issue of being raised in the Eridani culture. Namely, her views towards people of a lower class. Her entire life she was surrounded by nothing but suits, so a lot of reeducation revolved around correcting those interpersonal No. I am always open to criticisms and discussions. I make mistakes and misunderstand things very often, so I am always grateful whenever someone points those things out to me.
  15. BYOND Key: Lordnesh Character Names: Xinth, Teth, Kutr, Zizix, Reks, and DIRE are probably my most notable characters at the moment. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always loved robots, mechs and artificial intelligence for as long as I can remember. I love them for their aesthetics, for the philosophical questions they raise, and for the potential they represent. What separates us from the creatures we deem lesser than us? Can we reproduce that thing? Should we? Is artificial life the next step in evolution? I occasionally enjoy these heavy philosophical conversations, and I think it would be very interesting to argue them from the other side. Plus they just look fucking cool. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Identity/Culture: IPCs do not have a singular identity, and instead tend to adopt the culture of their manufacturer or owner. This being the case, there are very few limits on how an IPC can behave. However, being unbound also means they can adopt cultural norms of other civilizations. Mechanically: IPCs significantly differ from humans mechanically. They do not need to eat, sleep, or feel pain. They are stronger, faster, and able to survive harsher climates more easily. Motivation/Thinking: Survival motivates both humans and IPCs, but in different ways. For humans, survival is an instinctual thing, but for IPCs it is a programmed directive. And this directive influences every decision that an IPC makes. However, this is not to say that they are limited in the choices they make, just that when you dig down, their choices ultimately revolve around this directive. Purpose: Humans have no inherent purpose (unless you're religious), but IPCs do. They are built for a reason. Whether that reason is something as frivolous as a personal entertainment device, or a rugged IPC designed for construction. Perhaps this will change when IPCs start making IPCs. Treatment: Lastly, and most notably, is the difference in treatment between humans and IPCs. IPCs are quite literally not treated the same as humans. Examples of this are the difference in treatment of hurting/destroying an IPC, versus hurting/killing a human. Worse yet, in certain places, IPC's are treated as nothing more than property. To boil it down, IPCs, whether free or owned, face the constant threat of disassembly at the hands of the humans around them. Character Name: Artemis Bishop Cybernetics, with the help of Zeng-Hu, created a line of luxury medical IPCs using the Bishop Accessory frame. These IPCs were most often seen in use in upper class medical facilities and high-end leisure establishments in Epsilon Eridani. A few were even bought as personal medical staff for extremely well off individuals. However, all were noted for their customer service, technique, and high class design. After several years, and the novelty had worn off to some extent, they began to be sold on the general marketplace. Artemis was assembled in one of the earlier batches, so she had that privilege of being the hot new thing for several years. Of course, being a Synthetic in Eridani meant that privilege didn't really amount to much. She wasn't worked quite as hard as the other Synthetic staff, and was treated much better in comparison. This difference in treatment led to Artemis' inevitably being ostracized by the other Synthetics that worked alongside her. Despite her isolation, Artemis continued to perform up to standards. Not because she had any hope of improving her situation, but the alternative was something she had no wish to explore. Thankfully, after seven years working for her owners, her novelty finally wore off. No longer willing to spend the exorbitant maintenance costs, they were happy to sell her off to a Nanotrasen representative. After a month of reeducation and deprogramming, she was shipped off to her new place of work. What do you like about this character? The thing I like most about this character is the shear amount of “fish out of water” factor in Artemis' future. She went from the super corporate Eridani city skyscraper life, to working with literal dregs. Dregs, the people she'd often heard talked about, always in a negative light, were now her regular patients. One month is not nearly enough for her to get over her prejudices. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Solid Notes:
  16. Currently, the only way medical is able to alter the physical or mental status of a crew member is by examining the body while wearing a medical HUD. Now, normally this isn't too much of an issue. However, it becomes aggravating whenever someone dies out on the asteroid and are unrecoverable, or someone is rendered into their component parts. Outside of the above method, the only other way to alter the status of someone is via employment records, which Medical does not have access to.
  17. There's an idea. But the crematorium up stairs in the little room off the medical janitorial closet in place of the morgue tray.
  18. As an added benefit. Doing this will mean people use old quarantine even less. Opening it up to more antag related stuff (*cough* non-existent cult), and stop annoying engineering with random minor atmospheric alerts.
  19. Security doesn't need, or tend to use, a crematorium. They much prefer decapping antag heads. Not sure how adding this will affect much.
  20. Medical uses monkeys and proto species to practice and fill cargo bounties.
  21. Monkeys and proto species.
  22. ALL OF MY BUGS HAVE SYNTHETIC EYES BECAUSE OF THIS. This shade of blue causes eye strain for me, so I use synthetic eyes for every one of my Vaurca.
  23. Whitelist: Good It helps filter out the players that just wanna power trip or don't know what they're doing. Getting the whitelist was relatively painless. Lawset: Bad I feel that the third law, while well intentioned, puts you at odds to the regular crew too much. Forcing you to stonewall them, and making it much more likely for crew to get sick of your shit. Status of AI in general: pretty much dead I very rarely see AI's anymore. For me personally, I think it has more to do with getting the Vaurca WL, then anything else. However, the third law makes it somewhat painful to play. Since it often turns the AI from a valuable part of the station.. into an obstacle to overcome. And the AI already has problems with being present/engaged in the round. Other than as a voice activated door opener and super spy.
  24. +1 From me. About the only conflict I've ever had with Pierre, or their player, is solely in character. Well. It's more IC friction than conflict. Stop stealing my scans and patients damnit! I have nothing else to say but good things. They know what they're doing in medical and their character is realistic and believable. They also got that dommi drip.
  25. I'm still new to Vaurca, but I'll toss in my two cents. I think you may need to reconsider making a Viax. Since, they're basically lobotimites with no sense of self, and it seems like this one has a bit more personality than one would expect to see from a bound. But, again, I'm still getting a feel for things, so perhaps someone with more experience could comment.
