  1. Nooo, you're missing the point entirely. Cloning, or something similar, is actually sort of needed in heavy roleplay environments. If your character dies early in the round, what kind of interactions can they have if they are not brought back? Heavy RP is about playing your character, building them up and making connection, building relations etc. All of which are so possible when you're dead, right? Nooo. Miners falling in pits, EMTs resueing them falling in other pits, engineers forgetting gloves -once- and electrocuting themselves. Oh yeah, fun totally isn't ruined when you just want to build on a character more but OOPS THEY DIED because antags decided to rambo the fuck outta the place. What's even the point of having multiple characters if you can't play those that die. You should have multiple characters to play if you get bored of others, not as backup for when you die. That's a terrible mindset.
  2. Guys, I personally think removing cloning is a terrible idea. I hear a lot of you call the IC aspect of it into question, but let's look OOCly what the system does for players. Cloning basically keeps you in the round. It prevents you from being forced to play another character, or having to do nothing for a whole 30 minutes. Getting cloned allows new RP opportunities for your character, and since you were still playing them, you will still be fresh into their mindset as opposed to have to switch into another character. I'm fairly sure a lot of people just kind of opt out of playing the round altogether if they die with no way of getting back into it instead of changing characters. Waiting is NOT FUN. If you have competent medical staff it cuts down your waiting time to take part in the round again. Even worse, if you do really wanna play space station and you logged on to play that one character you want, but you get killed with no cloning 15 minutes in? "Oops, sorry, please wait at least 1 hour and 45 minutes before you are even getting a chance of playing this character again." This is why cloning exists. Don't take it away. Moving it to a more secure location so only high-ranking staff or specialised staff may access it, that would at least still make it possible. But I'm fairly sure cloning was put in to keep players happy and an IC justification was put after it. A research station would definitely have researched cloning, I agree. Ready and available for when valuale crew dies. I also agree that it's currently easy to clone but this is more attributed to the players than the system - Familiarity breeds ease.
  3. Fairly simple: I think the current cult deconversion system is super, SUPER awkward and doesn't stack up to how easy it is to convert someone. You have to use the obsidian rod, and wave it over someone's head. Sounds simple, but as soon as you click on your target, there are 3 ways for the deconversion to fail: Either the rod slips in your hand and you hit them instead, nothing happens at all or it works but the target chooses to stay true to the cult. Please, either make it always get to the choice or make cult conversions themselves just as unreliable, because I think the awkwardness of deconverting is one of the big reasons chaplains are so bad at fighting cults, which in turn causes people to not even want to try at all. It's already hard enough to get to deconvert people ICly in the first place, this RNG really is not needed next to it. At least take out the damn rod slipping because that really makes no sense. If it slips while waving it >around< someone's head you drop the rod, not slap them with it. Giving the cultists a choice to deconvert or not is a good thing, though still annoying because of the nature of cult conversions basically forcing people to join.
  4. This looks like fun. I assume, as with the new medical job ruling, that this is currently only for medical to make a start in it, and to expand this to the other departments later. I wholely support this, so people can actually question wtf you're doing when you're doing something super complicated.
  5. Point 1 is already a thing. I'm not completely sure on point 2 but I think that is already the case. So it's really about point 3. I'd be up for more researching, but phoron already has 3 different forms in solid, gaseous and liquid. Not sure how much more states you want to add. I'm not sure about the current mining yields but it used to be more phoron than anything. Of course people are going to devalue phoron if miners bring it in by the hundreds of sheets. And part of why it's never researched is that research never starts with any phoron to do research on, and by the time they get some they've already done so much research it's usually meaningless. The problem with this suggestion however is that we'd need to make more items, more sprites for those items, and then lock all those items away behind research which people will still not due to to the lack of phoron supplied to research. That's what I think anyway.
  6. So, to clarify, if for example there were no surgeons aboard, and the CMO needs some advanced brain surgery because the chemist got arrested and is the reason for that trauma. You have an older character that is a virologist today because, they are trained in virology, surgery and some other stuff and there was a surgeon earlier but they went to cryo. Are you then allowed to do this surgery, because your character had this training, or will you be arrested for doing it because it's not within your job responsibilities?
  7. With the exception that a borg is easily shut down by beating it up or EMPing it. A changeling captain not so much.
  8. Bumping because things are getting lost in suggestion piles again.
  9. If we are doing the blood moon thing, I would argue that vampires are immune to cult magic, seeing as it's both Veil magic. Cult weapons, sure, but no converting vampires. That would just be silly. Looking at you, conflux.
  10. I don't think it's a good idea either. I'm pretty sure we used to have loyalty implanted people able to be changelings, but I don't know when it was removed. Also, consider backgrounds for these antags. If a ling got so close to a captain they could absorb them and take their identity, why would they have the need of going to the station in said disguise instead of, oh I don't know, trying to get higher through central command? As for vampires, as far as I know, all newly transformed vampires get frenzied and need blood to get back up to speed. I'm calling huge bullshit on no one noticing a captain character being in this state, even if it was off-station.
  11. Right, so, I wanna have a say in this as a guy that has a strong opinion on combat in this game. Guys. Combat does >not< equal conflict. Peaceful antags can create plenty of conflict. In fact, in my own opinion, peaceful antags are better because they won't forcefully remove people from rounds by killing/spacing/succing them to death/whatever. This means everyone that joins the round gets a chance to enjoy it. Driving a story doesn't require you to shoot up the station or obliterate/get obliterated by security. I'll concede that it's not easy to do but it's certainly possible. I personally get more enjoyment out of an antag that comes in and inconveniences people with their abilities and a plausible backstory for them than a vampire that comes up to my character, says "hey come look at this cool stationary thing I found in maintenance" then proceeds to killsucc once in there. Not a single antag >needs< any type of combat to create a driving story for the crew. I just think it's so ingrained into our community that most people don't know any better anymore. That's my personal opinion though.
  12. I won't go into arguments here, but I'll post the ahelp logs as evidence. https://pastebin.com/GW3CyKGE A bit of context is added around since it's just logs and may be a bit confusing otherwise. What I think happened is a 2 way assumption, with me assuming you told me everything and you assuming I knew about the blob.
  13. This has been suggested before. Locking and archiving, please seek out the original suggestion.
  14. Locking and archiving as per request.
  15. Gonna put the story itself in the spoiler below. Please let me know what you think and feedback is appreciated.
  16. So yeah, here it is. Apparently this is still a thing, so. Post-reset, what do you guys think of Yumi? You can give your pre-reset thoughts too but those don't mater as much anymore.
  17. Oh boy. This is a lot of fuss over a simple thing. However, I do think it is a good idea to require a warrant on code green, and maybe even preferred on blue to prevent officers from randomly searching antags because there's carps around the station. It would reinforce the rule of giving the antags a bit of leeway to do their thing, as well as putting down a clear line between security validhunting and actually trying to combat a threat.
  18. Hey coalf, one tiny problem with your idea there. The problem being that we focus on the roleplay, and not winning or losing. So, if someone "wins", at least for the sake of winning, they didn't do a very good job. If they "won" for the sake of the story that's another thing.
  19. Yeah, looks good to me. I know coolbc is a good roleplayer, despite his character becoming a meme. I'm leaning positive, except there's one little problem here: CMOs need to be 35 years minimum now, so that 33 years won't cut it. Other than that, I take no issues with this app.
  20. Oho. More lizards, I see. Munc, I trust you as a roleplayer and this character and application both look solid. I give my +1 to this. Let's just hope we won't get an influx of these types of unathi from others.
  21. Hmmmm. Catnip, I know you're one of the better roleplayers on the server. I know you will do your best on the character and stuff. However, the backstory is very... Lackluster. Not in terms of what happened, but what really does this tell us about the character? We don't get much info on how they think or act, just what they did, but not why or how. I'm leaning positive but you really need to expand the backstory a bit to be more personal to your character instead of just making it a timeline, as it looks like now.
  22. Fun fact, changelings actually don't have to work together, so it's not really team-based.
  23. You could also make a bit more of an "exhaustive" process, because cloning is really easy right now. Two buttons. Maybe have the cloner start out with no biomass and you can only insert it as a clone is being made. Not enough or too much biomass results in a deformity for the clone. There, now you even have something you can chalk up to training rather than machinery. Just a thought, but might be an idea.
  24. Chada, it's the reason I said this is for observers and lobbyers, not the in-game manifest. It's mostly for OOC information, not necessarily IC information. I know from experience that some borgs and crewmembers become friends to an extent, and if people can see which borgs are online before they choose their character they can think "Hey, I can have some fun interactions here" rather than playing roulette of which borgs are present.
