niennab
BYOND key: Niennab Character names: Spoiler How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since April 2019. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I wish to be on the command whitelist in order to offer more of a presence with the station Liaison role. I think they're an incredibly fascinating role and one that involves a lot of personal commitment to the lore and roleplay. Additionally, it's my hope that in acquiring my Command Whitelist, should I hold any IPC related events, I can fill that slot if a requirement for the story or the events in question. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to the Aurora in part because while playing SS13 with my partner, he was at the time insistent on playing on a server that had the same UI that he was used to. Turns out the Aurora is exactly that. Why I stayed however, is different question all together! Having come from a similar roleplay community that's sadly dead, I found myself craving roleplay for quite sometime. In playing on the Aurora, I quickly found there to be a mass of players that I aspired to be as skilled as well as aspired to roleplay more with. Moreover I found a wealth of creativity within the server's lore and I've had more than enough fun reading through the wiki whenever I have a moment to myself. Lastly, high roleplay environments are the only place for me. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Nope! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I personally believe that roleplay is a means of immersive and personal creative story telling. Through roleplaying, we are able to become our characters where as in a book, the story was made by someone else. And through that immersion, we are able to experience things that may be otherwise completely be beyond our social situations. Through roleplay I can be male identifying, a giant hulking lizard or even a senseless machine out in space and I think that's just wonderful. Additionally, it being a more organic process, RP allows for deviating from the suspected path of a story, where as with a book you are in a way railroaded to follow the author's intent. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I personally believe that the purpose of a Head of Staff is to promote RP, further plot and character development (antag related or not) as well as delegate departments or the crew in times of emergency. From the perspective of a Command member and addressing antags, I believe that as a Command member, the idea is not to shut down and thwart their gimmick, but to provide fascinating counter roleplay that can either add more to the conflict or drive it further. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe a standard of understanding towards players as well as a level headed approach is required for the situation. It's important as a player not to become overwhelmed by situations, (although no one is perfect in this regard). Additionally, from an LOOC perspective, I believe it's the duty of the command whitelisted characters to uphold assisting new players in familiarizing themselves with the role or the more nuanced mechanics of the game, as well as delegating the department in times of emergency. Although I am going for a, in my opinion, less stressful role within Command, I plan to uphold these values by offering players interesting means of roleplay and conversation. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Growing up in Eridani Space, particular Epsilon Eridani II, Almas-Hadim Al-Ashab had much of the world handed to him. His parents, successful electrical engineers and corporate lap dogs, provided him with the necessary, albeit cold, environment to thrive. Later in life, Almas' education at the Oran Robotics and Engineering Academy was oddly cut short, and he later he enrolled at the Akhet Administration Academy instead. Where upon graduation, Almas found himself under the employment of Idris Incorporated. Slowly but surely, Almas moved through the ranks within Idris and was eventually made to move to Tau Ceti, where he presently works at the Idris Headquarters in Mendel City, just along the outskirts of the Zhengfu District. Given the steady but slow drop of profits for Idris over time, it is Almas' hope to expand Idris' network and return the company to it's former glory, and beyond. Wealth and company prestige guide's him. This, along with the recent spurn of the, albeit crushed, Synthetic Liberation Front, has garnered a pressing concern in the aged Liaison. The behavior of said rogue synthetics have placed paranoia onto synthetics everywhere, turning undesirable ire onto the company's Reclamation and Security Units. He must ensure the company units are behaving up to snuff. Problematic units are not to persist. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? To be honest, I don't personally see myself going after a majority of the Command roles. At least not yet. Most of my sights are on the Liaison roles and potentially the Head of Personnel role. However, and it should be noted that, because I often make characters slowly, it is more than likely that I will only be playing the mentioned Idris Corporate Liaison character during my trial. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Almas-Hadim Al-Ashab - Idris Corporate Liaison How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I want to avoid using the a 1-10 scale moving forward. However, I think I am a fairly decent writer and I like to believe that I put my heart into every character that I make, providing well rounded and hopefully fascinating character backstories. Moreover, I like to try and create characters that will prompt interesting conversation with other characters. Much as I want my characters to develop and pour their hearts out, I hope to allow other characters to do so as well. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Of course. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. Extra notes: Something I couldn't think to add anywhere but I do believe that by taking on the command role in game, you sign yourself up for an increased chance of death. This, in my opinion, I am fine with and I believe should be considered when making ones whitelist. If I get a trial, I would like to request it start Sunday the 29th (USA Timezone), as I have a project due this week as well as guests visiting on the weekend. Link to comment
Cnaym
One of the unsung heroes of lowpop. Consistent good RP, stays out of trouble, focuses on character development and spreading lore. I frequently joke with you in tickets about being unrobust and when asked for a little help I explained that the thing to your right is called a mouse. Good times. In all honesty though, one of the really outstanding community members. Superb conduct OOCly and ICly, I see no reason why you should not have the command whitelist. Clear +1 from my side. You've come far with the mechanics and your roleplay is top notch. Link to comment
Goret
Nienna is a great person and deserve their command whitelist. They are always friendly when I speak with them and have really good characters to interact with. I have nothing to say about their roleplay and I'm pretty sure they'd make a great addition. They are already an excellent staff member that add alot to the server life with the lore they provide as a synth developper, and I never heard any problems related to them. As the boy above me, I'll +1 this! PS: YES, finally an Idris liaison. I want my ISU yelled on. Link to comment
Doxxmedearly
Nienna is a person who cares about making sure everyone has fun. And they've stepped up to their lore writer responsibility extremely well. I've nothing but praise for her and total confidence that allowing her to play as command will be great for everyone. Hearty +1 Link to comment
Forktress
Nienna is a cosmic force for good in the community, truly drives roleplay and interactivity with others and makes interesting, well thought out characters. I have no doubt this would continue to be the case with command characters. Although we all know command is the worst and we should all unionise. Link to comment
MattAtlas
Fuck me, finally an Idris liaison. Anywho I think this app was long overdue. Great roleplayer, amazing person. +1 Link to comment
ShesTrying
Bring back Finley and I'll give you a +1 >:c Nienna has amazing characters, and she is one of the people I want other players to look to when it comes to roleplay and just general sense. An amazing roleplayer, a great person, and an all-around shining member of the community. Even tho she stinkey, she one good egg. +1 Link to comment
Scheveningen
+1. Nienna is a very responsible individual and a solid, good-intentioned roleplayer that generally stands out from the crowd. Link to comment
Bear
There is little I can say that ready has not been said. Nienna is a gem through and through. A calm and amazing player. An easy +1 Link to comment
NewOriginalSchwann
An unsung hero of lowpop and a great person overall. I must, however, keep with my tradition and ask some questions. 1). A cook employed by NanoTrasen comes to you inquiring about transferring her contract to Idris, but she has some doubts. How do you assist her in this process and convince her it’s a good idea? 2). An Idris security officer reports that an ISU on-duty is acting weird. It’s not being openly aggressive yet, but it is acting kind of glitchy and the officer informs you that he’s tried his best to keep this from the head of security in order to not damage the image of Idris. Both members of investigations are IRUs owned by Idris, but there is only one Idris officer. How do you handle the ISU? 3). An Idris bartender comes to you around halfway through the shift, at about 00:55, with complaints about her coworker. The bartender is an Idris-contracted, though free, shell and the other bartender is a skrell with a serious grudge against synthetics. How do you manage this incident and, if it comes to it, would you file an IR on behalf of the shell? Remember that there are no real wrong answers. I look forward to your response! Link to comment
niennab
@NewOriginalSchwann It should be noted with a few of these examples that some of the results depend on the characters involved as well how the roleplay unfolds. I will however detail as to how I would start or ideas that I would present to these circumstances nonetheless. As a side note, it is my hope to approach these circumstances as though I were DMing, and such I want to further a story rather than crush characters outright. 1. I would bring them to my office, pour a glass of whiskey for the two of us and proceed to detail the many benefits of working for Idris. Naturally, this is an opportunity to play up corporate style poaching but it also allows me to organically inform someone the lore of Idris Incorporated while subtly inform the player of the rules of playing a contractor character on station. 2. By this example am I to assume that the reporting Officer is the ISU in question? How many Idris contractors are there? 3 or 4? 3. If I can pull the Skrell away to a private booth in the bar or my office, I'd attempt to resolve the matter diplomatically, while also hearing their side to the story. I wager my character would result to taking to an IR if either party was physically harmed. Although it's more likely character would file the IR on behalf of the shell or play witness to the skrell's IR. Edited December 24, 2019 by niennab Link to comment
NewOriginalSchwann
@niennab Good responses on one and three (I especially like how you’ve phrased #1 as an introduction to playing a contractor), and my apologies for question two being somewhat unclear (this is what I get for writing when I’m tired). My clarification is below. The reporting officer is a human Idris contractor working as a security officer. In total you have four Idris contractors in security: two IRUs as the detective and CSI, one ISU as an officer, and one human officer. Let’s assume that, in this revised scenario, the quartermaster is also an Idris contractor, along with two of her cargo technicians and one of the bartenders. With all this information, how do you manage the ISU’s odd behavior? Link to comment
niennab
@NewOriginalSchwann Naturally, in playing an Idris Liaison I am eager to scrutinize and belittle those pecky IRU/ISUs. Silliness aside, this is a good scenario! There are many routes I could take. I am going to however run with the first scenario! I could first request the two investigative IRU units to look into the unit and report back to me, or, I could take to overseeing the process myself. If there is some distinctive malfunction to the ISU, I could bring them with me to Robotics, and request the Roboticist to run a general diagnostics as well as analysis of the IPC in question. I think, being caught in this manner could be interesting for the ISU character in question as well and although I don't want to take their character a direction they don't want, if say the unit was to be decommissioned and sold, but it could be an interesting and organic development for their character. However I'd likely first inquire with the player oocly. Link to comment
NewOriginalSchwann
@niennab An excellent response! This application has my full support, and I wish you luck on your trial! Link to comment
niennab
Also, my plans changed so, if I get my trial, I should be free to start as early as Friday 27th 10 AM EST (nerd time). Link to comment
MattAtlas
I'm gonna be handling this. I'll get some opinions on the gang, go over the feedback and decide in three hours more or less. Link to comment
BoryaTheSlayer
Oh wtf I didn't leave feedback here. Hi. I know you as a good RP-er and even though your knowledge of game mechanics might be lacking, you're willing to learn. And in the end, you're going to play liaison anyways, so it doesn't matter too much. Looking forward to a trial, GL. Link to comment
MattAtlas
Trial started on 28DEC2019 and will end on 3JAN2020. Link to comment
Natiform
ahhh i was there for your very first liaison round! exciting! we didnt get to rp a WHOLE whole lot together, but he seemed really interesting for the little bit we got to do! got to crack a few jokes here and there, and it was nice to have someone seek me out for RP as i was trying out a brand new role and brand new character, so i was a bit lonely- i appreciated you reaching out to the civilian roles and giving us all some interaction in what was a rather hectic round that left us ignored for the most of it. but i mean, your RP is always spot on, so once i realized that it was you playing, it all made sense ^^ biiiiiiig ol +1 from me! WickedCybs
I like the Liason character. Echoing the poster above, it was nice to talk to someone at semi-length on a new character. Especially on low-pop. Would've liked to do something further, but the round was a bit hectic and I imagine being the only command not turned into a bird was something to deal with. Situation would've been rather different without your character, and they made a good difference. So +1, I'd like to see what else you do with the whitelist. Link to comment
Goret
There is nobody more scared than the ISU Ardenne when it sees its LIAISON. Great character, very spooky when you are from Idris and I like the dynamic with them. Keep going like this, I still support my first post +1 Link to comment
Cnaym
Had really good interactions with your command character. They didn't meme a single fax yet and been a consistent highlight of lowpop. Knew that the prior +1 would not be in vain. Keep going like that and it should be no problem at all! Link to comment
