[Accepted] Uaine's - Command app

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Uaine

Character names: Elise Taylor (Sec Officer) Krazak Skavit (Sec Officer) Javuk Sharzik (Engineer) Clarice Dupont (Medical Doctor) Serenity (Borg/AI)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I think I've been playing for about 3 to 4 months now. The exact amount of time I can't recall exactly.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I'd like to receive the whitelist because I believe I could be a good driving force for some of the rounds that happen on the Aurora. I do believe I'm patient enough to deal with some of the more delicate situation. I also see myself as a bit of a pleaser in the sense that giving out RP to people is something I enjoy doing. I know that in my time playing SS13 in general I've always loved it when Heads of Staff RP'd with me. They were interactions that felt special and I'd love to give back to the community in that sense. I also think that playing the 'boss' would be fun for once! :)

Why did you come to Aurora?: I played on Baystation for a while. It was my second server after Yogstation (I played it briefly to learn the basic mechanics. Didn't want to jump into RP without knowing how to open a soda can.) I've always been a big fan of RP but the atmosphere and the lack of canonical interactions, along with the scattered lore, drove me away from Bay12. I love SS13 and craved for more so I decided to give Aurora a shot, just to see how it was like on the other HRP server. I have to say I do not regret making the switch at all. I love it here. Everyone's been so nice to me and I love the community. You guys rock!

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?:

Yes, I've read through both the Captain's and HoS guides alon with their respective pages thoroughly. The others I didn't study as much considering I have no intention playing them. At least not for now.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?

None that I'm aware of. I think I might have DC'd as a borg once? I'm not sure. Either way it was a mistake.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay is a collaboration between players to create a narrative in which everyone can have fun and drive a story forward. It's something a lot of people can escape into which I think is great. It's a way to immerse yourself in a role or situation in which you would have never found yourself into in real life.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

To drive the story forward and to bring some order into the chaos that some rounds can be. A leader that gives out instructions and makes sure that no one is left unnoticed or without something to do/occupy themselves with. They're there to make some of the decisions a department wouldn't be able to make if it wasn't for them being present. I also see Heads of Staff as mentors for their department. They're the person people turn to with questions, IC and OOC sometimes too.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

I think the answer to this question can be somewhat summarized well with my above response. Command players are there to keep the round going and assist new players who might be a little lost and whatnot. I think Command characters, from my experience, provide interesting roleplay and character development to other players.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

While I'm still fairly 'new' to the server I don't know exactly everything that goes on lore-wise, although I did read most of the wiki pages and I browse some of the postings on the forums. All I know is that the Jargons are being a little too intrusive on the Aurora and rumors have it that they killed/kidnapped some members of the crew. My characters find themselves a little torn between their personal opinions and their work ethics. Especially Elise Taylor. She lost a good friend to the TUPs which makes her very wary of Skrell crew members.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

So far I only wish to play Head of Security.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Krazak Skavit, an old Lizard war veteran who's seen too much. I've been having a lot of fun playing him. While he's a Unathi who believes strongly in the code of honor he still hates resorting to violence, preferring to find a peaceful alternative to most deadly situations. It doesn't mean he won't fight back if needed to, just that he's had enough bloodshed. It's been absolutely amazing to play a character that's focused on finding a different approach that most (At least from my experience) Sec players won't always consider. Negotiation and finding a middle ground. I'm hopping that having him being HoS will allow me to push that narrative forward a little more and sometimes maybe bring a fun and unexpected twist to some rounds that might have otherwise ended in a bloodshed.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

With multiple years RPing in videogames (WoW, FF14, ToR) and LARPing I think I have a fairly good understanding of what Roleplay is. I think I provide players who interact with my characters with an acceptable level of RP on most of my interractions, if not nearly all.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

Of course.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

Yes, like I already answered above. :P

Extra notes:

I'd like to note that while I'm still fairly new to the server I have a craving to learn new things. If I do get this whitelist and ever find myself in a situation where I appear to be lost and unsure of what to do please do not hesitate to tell me. I think no one is perfect and we should all strive to better ourselves in everything we do! :D  I also encourage everyone to ask questions if they feel like I haven't answered everything in my app!

Thank you!

+1 I always love seeing Elise in a round, and I think you roleplay them really well, I think you'll do great with a Command application.

You proved yourself capable of having this whitelist, both OOCly and by the way you roleplay. Make me proud. You have my thumb up +1

Elise is a really fun character to play with, and serenity's pretty cool. (We rebuilt red dock together one time, I think) so this gets a +1 from me

Your roleplay is good, your attitude is excellent, you have no real issues when it comes to staff entries and your application is well written.

Good so far, enjoyable HoS. Didn't have us destroy a Vamp, had some fairly fluid RP with them instead.

Watched a vampire round, and it was honestly pretty darn shaky from where I was standing. Not gonna -1 as it's early days and I'm sure you'll improve, but things I saw:

- Allowing Vampire A to feed and choke someone whilst asking 'what are you doing' without stepping in until the last minute.
- Attempting to arrest multiple people standing outside of science (with the incident happening inside) whilst chatting to  peaceful vampire B for 'obstruction'. Cutting people out of antag RP as sec is really, really bad, and doubly so when they're not getting in the way.
- Constantly validing Vampire B and attempting to arrest her despite the fact that everyone she drank from was consenting - at least until she was backed into a corner.
- Refusing to meet fairly simple vamp demands - of a monkey- under the threat of her venting the dock if she didn't get it. That she didn't do so was a surprise, and honestly y'all got lucky her player wasn't more willing to play rough.

I think you need to give peaceful antags more leeway, as she didn't really break any regulations up until the point sec was breathing down her throat. Especially as it seemed like a fairly enjoyable round for the people she was RPing with, up until that point.

As we spoke about over discord, this is all entirely my opinion as an outside observer and I'm not saying I'm objectively correct in my thoughts. So feel free to take/discard it all with a grain of salt; I wasn't in the round, so can't comment on what information you were acting on from your staff. It's easy to get swayed when you can see the whole picture, but putting said puzzle pieces together and coming to a decision is part of what makes a good HoS good. Likewise this was all from one round, so perhaps it was all just a single incident.

Best of luck ^^.

This is interesting.

I didn't 'allow' the person to get fed on, I intervened after some RP. I didn't see they were being fed on immediately when I got there. I'm not a fan of jumping the gun and going straight for the valid. I was Roleplaying shock.

I'd like to know how you think someone could consent do have blood drained from them? At that time the only other Vampire we had was aggressive to the crew and under investigation by the RD as an anomalous Crew member. While they were certainly not outright aggressive, Vampire B was still not compliant. We gave them PLENTY of chances to come quietly so they could be studied by Science and Medical but they refused to do so. As for giving them a monkey? Yes, perhaps that should have been done, I'll admit, but I'm fairly certain that breaks regulations. I know the situation might have called for stepping outside the lines but it was round end and I was in the middle of a small fight in the brig. Pressure from all sides.

I feel like a lot of this is looked at from an 'hawks' point of view. I'm trying to play my character in a first contact scenario. We already have someone in custody showing similar 'behavior' and they weren't exactly nice. We're not talking about nice little space dogs here but a creature that feeds on the blood of living crew members. WHO CAN COME BACK FROM THE DEAD.

The part with the bystanders watching the situation in science was partly because I didn't want them to be caught in the 'blast' if things went south. The characters present were clearly fond of the suspect and I wanted them away so that they wouldn't attempt anything funny. That's my reasoning. I'll keep that in mind however for future situations, thank you for that feedback.

I haven't had many rounds with Uaine in command, however, judging based on their other characters as well as my interactions with their command character, I believe they will make a good addition to the command staff team. They are a good RPer, have good characters, and from what I've seen are quite good at the mechanics side of the game, which I believe is obviously quite important. Command is role in which, no matter what you do, some one is going to disagree with how you handled a situation, and I believe they have the maturity to not lash out at criticism but instead to talk things out and admit if they've done something wrong, which is important for literally everyone, but especially Command where mistakes are more impactful on the round as a whole. +1 from me

I played a round with this one as a Detective I wanted to try out, momentarily. They were pretty good, and were quick to pick up on the situation despite joining late. I support this one.

Just played with them in a Conflux round, they seemed competent from a command perspective, respected and inquired to the captains wishes, and generally instilled confidence during a difficult situation, especially for a new command player. +1 from me on this application.

Having played many rounds with this character at this point I can do nothing less but wholeheartedly endorse Uaine as a proficient, proportionate and effectively communicating leader. Their authority in the HoS role sets a high standard to all while they're playing and I am happy every time I see them on. I 100% wish to see this person retain their whitelist in command past the trial period.

From positive past experiences with them and a few rounds spent with Uaine's trial-HoS, I think that they'd do great work with a command whitelist. You'll be suffering with the rest of us, I'm sure.

+1 even though they're from quebec

Had a really interesting round recently as a borer that spent the entire round in Elise's head. They rped a pretty interesting spiral of declining sanity as a result of the invincibility they felt from the powers I unlocked for them. Good rper. +1
