Sheeplets
We could probably prevent 85% of the accidental phoron poisonings if we simply change the message that shows when you hover over Phoron Punch or K'ois bars in the snack machines that normally says this: to say "Phoron Punch! - (WARNING: Toxic to non-Vaurcae)" instead. Carver
+1 Surprised NT hasn't been sued over this. Link to comment
Zundy
Hasn't the kois mycosis aspect of these been removed? Link to comment

SierraKomodo
Looks like this would require an update to how the vendor UI populates the tooltip. Currently it just shows the actual item name, which adding a 'Warning' blurb to the name would be a bit awkward. Link to comment
Zelmana
All a part of the learning curve. I actually am against this as it allows for new players to experience some medical surgeries etc. that they otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity to in hazardous engineering/sec type jobs. A similar learning experience to new miners falling down a hole and bleeding out in silent crit, or a new antag forgetting to turn on their suit's internals and suffocating to death. This game doesn't need fucking newb traps, especially in the case of something like this where it'd be immersion-breaking not to have extremely visible warnings. Link to comment
ImmortalRedshirt
I don't know, have a hard time believing that people would actually drink something that has the word "Phoron" in it. Link to comment

Honestly I agree and they could inspect it after buying it anyway On 10/02/2021 at 09:25, Lordnesh said: Getting mycosis is essentially a death sentence. Wrong because you can't get mycosis from a vendor unless someone enabled the contraband section. Phoron punch at most will kill an organ but you'll probably live if you notice "oh I'm in a lot of pain now". Filtered K'ois bars DO NOT give mycosis and just give toxins just like phoron punch with an innate 'you will puke' after eating. unfiltered k'ois bars exist behind contraband wires in snack vendors, and honestly the only time you'll ever see them is an antag or a super poor vaurca hacking a vendor because they have no money to buy the filtered ones Link to comment

About a month ago I played this wild ass round in Medical where a super obviously new player came in to chat with us. He walked out of the bay after rambling for a bit about our gumballs or something stupid and sprinted back in about a minute or so later screaming for help. He was dying from MSOF at an absolutely breakneck pace because he'd bought a can of Phoron Punch from the vendor around the corner, chugged it, and then immediately dropped back into our laps when he started feeling symptoms. He was inside the GTR within 15 seconds, in cardiac arrest in 40, and brain dead by the minute and a half mark. This was with us using (and abusing) a mega-meta chemical mix that we rapidly slammed into his bloodstream with a roller bed IV to try and buy time for the surgeon. People just joining this server usually don't even know what Phoron even is, especially since most other servers call it Plasma. It's a pointlessly lethal newbie trap even with the label on the cans just because of the fact that no one bald enough to drink them bothers to read their labels until after the fact when their liver explodes. WickedCybs
Having it just easily available like that is very strange, I agree. Had a lot of incidents of people dying due to Phoron Punch specifically, the k'ois bars don't seem to kill people as fast as that does. It also often seems like most of the time, half or more than half the crew doesn't even know what's dangerous in the machines other than a k'ois bar. Even for the k'ois bars, the fact that they don't induce mycosis unlike the organic bars you can only get by hacking isn't really outlined, easy mistake to make. Though a key thing is, it's just not clear what's toxic or not at a glance for new players. Even if they know what phoron is and what it does. Well, you have the vaurca vendor with product names like "Phoron Passion" and "K'ois Twist" that don't poison at all and then the "Phoron Punch" in a Robust Softdrinks that will actually kill you. Get that people should probably "Read the labels" but it's a bit of a poor gotcha moment. I've gone over this with others constantly IC, especially when I play medical. Making it more obvious that its toxic probably wouldn't hurt. Link to comment
Faye <3
i agree. it's super unclear as to what in those vendors is toxic IMO, and frustrating for the hapless newbie who stumbled into it and for the medical team trying to save them. i recall once that someone either ate a k'oiss bar or had one of those sodas, and in order to save them we had to have a full operating team (two surgeons, plus one intern slamming chems the entire way) and had to replace at least one organ. i don't find it particularly funny, it's just sort of annoying and a very lame 'haha!!! ur so dumb!!! now ur char's in multiple organ failure!!" if not on the name, then it should be added to the examine at least. if you accidentally have some phoron punch or eat a k'oiss bar (as dumb as that is, and i agree) unless you have a very coordinated medical crew, you're probably fucked.
