[Accepted] Superiorform's IPC Whitelist Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Superiorform

Character Names: Alexander Viatorem, Jake Lawrenson, Cathryn Latham, Alex Walker, Daniel Tilton, Auntie Marian, Pacificatron, Medisave

Species you are applying to play: IPC

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Faded, chipped, gold.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Of course.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: You can create a lot of wildly varying characters as synthetics, because they are just that – synthetic. They may have been created for any reason, and with any strange personality. They do not have to have any semblance of “normal” about them. They could be a noire detective to a level that would be unrealistic in a human, they could be manically depressed, they could have the personality of a cowboy, they could be hopeless womanisers, they could be happy-go-lucky chipper happy things, delighted to serve. Or they could be stoic, bland, emotionless machines. I’ve been playing a lot of station-bound recently, and I’ve enjoyed the freedom in creating any character I want with them, not constrained by what is realistic for a human.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They can’t actually feel. They can emulate emotion, but they will never be happy, or sad, or envious, or greedy. They can just seem like it. This means they can become... predictable. They may not be as nuanced as they seem. They may, in fact, just go for what is the most efficient, logical option, and completely fail to empathize with organics.

Character Name: Swagtron 9000 Snazzatron

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Swagtron was custom built for a small company as a publicity stunt. A crazily happy, over-the-top robot painted in gold, broadcast over the extra-net and television. It became wildly popular, and was very well known - for about a week. Its five seconds of fame passed, the company passed into obscurity, and Swagtron was passed along. Hired on the cheap, and passed about between companies, it was bought by NanoTrasen.

Forgotten about by everyone, it now works as a janitor, its faded gold paint failing to gleam at all. It sweeps the floors, longing for the limelight once again.

What do you like about this character? It's a gold plated IPC called Swagtron. I do think it could be massively interesting to RP with and as, I would enjoy playing this sort of depressed robot, longing to be popular again, hoping to be remembered every time it meets someone, but in the end, resigned to just cleaning the floors.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? Honestly, I think I am quite good at roleplaying now. From my own, obviously biased point of view, I create nuanced, average, but interesting characters, that take on a life of their own. I don't have to think "what would my character do?" I just know. I don't powergame or metagame, and I try to everything I can to give antags a chance.

Notes: Sorry for the short backstory - I prefer to develop the backstories of my characters on the fly, as I play them, using the backstory to explain quirks that emerge in my characters as I learn about them.

Superiorform is a pretty good RPer, I've RPed with him sometimes and he's pretty capable. I like his characters, especially Medisave, but I have to agree with driecg here. Swagtron 9000 feels too much of a forced meme rather than a character.

Personally i like the concept, I just think the name takes the character from "kinda interesting and unique" to "stupid meme." Otherwise I like the backstory, even if it is a little short.

The concept seems pretty good to me too, my concern is mostly about the name. Perhaps the backstory can be a little longer.

I've played with Alexander Viatorem, Cathryn Latham and Alex Walker. They were all awesome character, great roleplaying and good sense of humor. Dr Latham is one of the best research director and well there was that time where I tried to do Anthony Hopkins in Fracture with detective Walker. I was head rev and they kinda cottoned on to it so he invited me to a chat in the library and I ended up confessing to a bunch of stuff but had got rid of all the evidence before hand and tried to explain how he coerced ,me into the confession which of course was all on his universal recorder. It was a hoot that ended with my like Hannibal Lector in solitary (Thanks Yahir).

TITAN couldn't have been any better as a pAI for an embarassingly helpless ninja. I think we handled the round well considering the shitfest it coulda been after hijacking the shuttle. If TITAN was just a tester for an IPC then I look forward to charging their batteries for a change! +1

The names fine. It doesn't break any rules, and unlike some of the more pressing examples it makes sense in its story, but you wouldn't need even that. IPC's are allowed to have titles in their name as well, I don't agree with it, but it's the server's decision. One of the cases for this freedom of naming is that it allows players to make IPCs with names like

Autonomous Worker Serra

Working Joe

Toronto-88

Some bad examples where this policy is displayed

Inspector Dot

Bureaucratic Bureaucratatron

and the name of an IPC I made in protest of this rule

God-King President Captain

Until the naming rules of IPCs are changed, if they are ever, it would be hypocritical to criticize you for your name. You are a good RPer, +1

You can write a better backstory than that and create a better character - We said the same to another player just a few days ago, and the same should go for you. If you are TRYING to stick out with the name, you are being a bad snowflake, as opposed to a good snowflake.

What's wrong with the backstory? It is short, yes, but anything else would have been forced. The character is meant to be a one-trick pony. It had its shallow fame, and now its gone and forgotten about. I really do not know what I could add. You really need to elaborate on "we said the same to a player... and the same should go for me". What should go for me? I should write a better backstory? And yes, the name us trying to stick out, it is trying to be absurd and stupid - to create a stark contrast for when you actually meet the character. I do not see how that is snowflakey, quite the opposite - I am trying to make the IPC a dissapointment, dull and beat down, far removed from his glory days. That being said, the name has received the most criticism, and I intend to change it to something equally absurd, but without the word "swag" in it. Maybe I'll lose the 9000, too. Probably.

I feel like having a model name on the ID would be better, and then your character proclaims 'CALL ME SWAGBOT, MY DUDES! It's my name! Remember me, Swagbot? Haha...'

Maybe something like t.o.G. and make SURE the G is capital, and he goes by 'Big G' - that would be another original thing to do.

Besides that, it seems fine to me.

Backstory is very short, I think it's pretty good, but I would love to see more of a second paragraph in there. Even if it's just going into even deeper detail about the stunt, creators, or fall from fame.

Though, I must say: I hate the name. I just hate the word swag in general and think it's a terrible word. Much prefer the word Snazzy. Would recommend changing name to something like Wolf said or something incorporating the word "Snazzy". Like Snazzatron, or Snazzbot 3000. Something like that.

I see what you're going for man, but I don't know if I can fully endorse it right now. I feel it's overall pretty weak, even though you're going for a gimmick thing here. I still do like the gist of it and think you're a solid RPer. I just don't know man.

Thank you for the criticism - and actually, I think Snazz is a good word. I do like your suggested names. I, myself, hate the word swag too. I might go by Sleepy's suggestion too, and just take the model name. I'm 50 50 on that. I'll expand on my backstory a little bit, what he did during his days of fame.

Hello! Sorry for the delay in your application.

You have a lot of positive feedback as a roleplayer and that's going to outweigh the immense wariness I have over the silliness of this IPC. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt accept this application but you need to be sure that his name is not so on-the-nose and that he remains within service roles. Being obnoxious can see the whitelist removed - a character needs to have a valid reason and the proper qualifications to work whatever role they happen to be on station, unless he is a dedicated visitor or assistant.
