  1. Literally how to get tempbanned.
  2. Good rule of thumb for characters on applications; having a tajaran that's deeply rooted into potential M'sai, Zhan-Khazan, Njarir, or really into any ethnicity, or life on Ahdomai as a whole, regardless of what faction they're aligned to, gives anyone handling or reviewing the whitelist an opportunity to gauge the applicant's understanding of the lore. It's incredibly easy to say, "Yeah, my tajaran grew up in New York," so that you can make them a complete snowflake, and get away with disregarding 90% of the enforced lore. At that point, the character is a human in a fursuit, and every single, literally every single tajaran character I've seen end up like that is a massive snowflake. Not going to point fingers here, though. I completely understand why Hive set this rule into place, and if accepted, will likely maintain the same policy. What I more had in mind, was to approach whitelist applications the same way that I do moderator applications. I see that the person is interested, and if I do not know them, I proceed to observe them closely for several days, see how they act ICly, how they carry themselves in the community and what not. Regarding whitelists, however, I would make a point of seeing how they play the characters they have now, and use that as an indication to their roleplay abilities and creativity. Not planning on any major factions - probably just splinter groups within tajaran culture - similar to those within human culture (Such as UNITY, the SLF, and numerous other organizations, not necessarily built around synthetic rights). It's a concept I'm wanting to explore, and admittedly, am going to wait until I see what all I have to work with before I put any serious planning into it. Maybe what I wrote came off the wrong way; my 'center stage,' I wasn't intending on forcing them closer to the station dynamic, but I would definitely like to see lore for them fleshed out more than it already is. Both previous lore overseers have dedicated much more time to illustrating the PRA and ALA, but the NKA still seems neglected compared to the lore available on the other two. And I'm totally, 100% cool with that. I am ready to go into this in a subordinate position, and am totally fine with deferring issues of lore. I have nothing wrong with being told no, although I do prefer to hear why such a decision is made, with a bit of explanation behind it. I understand your concern, and can see how this would be unsettling. In your position, it would probably be a heavy factor as well, but I'm willing to work with you if you give me a shot. I've always taken a lot of pride in working in team dynamics, and make a policy out of not intentionally antagonizing supervisors. More emphasis on not doing so intentionally, but it's entirely possible disagreements may arise, but I'm more than willing to work through them respectfully. I don't like toeing the line and directly challenging authority, so I'd rather not butt heads with you. So please, if you feel I'm out of line, or stepping on your toes, or "being an admin," give me a solid, "Fuck off, Serv, I'm in charge," and I'll back down. I occasionally just need that call out to know I'm pushing too hard, because as someone that's used to the hardline tempo and atmosphere of being in the administration team, it's easy to lose sight of how other teams operate. Really, if there's an issue, just say so and we can work towards a solution together.
  3. In expansion to the above, because looking at it, it seems pretty short, even if I'm not sure 100% of concerns concerning the position, so I thought I'd going on to discuss policies that, hypothetically speaking this is approved, I'd want to focus on. At some point, or rather, as soon as possible, I'm wanting to put out some sort of survey for a few days to assess public opinion of tajaran lore in the current state. Get a feel for what people, tajaran whitelisted players and the community as a whole, think about the currently established lore. See what factions the people have interest in, see if anyone has an interest in seeing any tajaran lore events on-server, and maybe get some ideas for what direction to take those in, but also receive criticism as a whole on the framework, negative and positive. After speaking with people for several months, I've come to an rough understanding of what most people think of the PRA, the NKA, the ALA, the war on Ahdomai, and how all of these things are really reflected against a research station in the middle of deep space. I'm wanting a more structured, fresh perspective on the community's outlooks on these things, because the things that people have an interest in that can be improved, changed, or built on, are the things that I want to work on. Several years back, I recall people showing a big interest in what was commonly referred to as, 'living breathing lore.' This being, lore that adapts and changes over time. Recently, I feel that tajaran lore has started to stagnate just a bit. This may be in part to the previous overseer having difficulty the past couple months, which really can't be helped; same thing happened with both previous tajaran lore overseers, and I spoke and consulted with both concerning their lore, and even tossed suggestions to both that ended up being used. Following the aforementioned survey, I'm hoping to launch lore events on the server much more often than they were presently, and actively engage crew from all three tajaran factions, and depending how the surveys turn out (and I'm hopeful this will be an item people express interest in), perhaps even creating new factions on Ahdomai. News articles are nice and have proven entertaining to read, however, it seems most people I've spoken with on the matter prefer such things to play out on-server, where they can actually see it happen, which in my mindset, is true. It'd be much more fun to actually let people be involved in the development of the lore, and be able to shape it through playing, much in the way that the synth contest is for synthetic players right now. All coming down to public opinion, I'm planning for tajara events, and station encounters with the powers that be on Ahdomai to be a much more common occurrence. Regarding whitelist management themselves, as I addressed with some of my fellow administrators earlier today while discussing the prospect of applying for this position, I intend to do away with the previous mentality of, "easy give, easy take," regarding issuing and stripping whitelists. I'm planning on placing a much bigger emphasis on the review process regarding tajaran whitelist applications and the role that community review has on the matter. In turn, I feel that a more intensive vetting process will reduce strain on tajara ICly. Some of you may recall, around a month ago, the big issue about several players possibly losing their whitelists over various issues that I won't go into detail here aside from this; a lot of it ended up being warranted, however, the planning and execution that went into the solution was not ideal. Regarding moderating tajara from an IC perspective, I plan on opting out of using the PSIS or the "kitty KGB" as it has been affectionately referred to since then, and instead reserving it for some of those lore events I discussed, and perhaps other prospects, rather than using it as a moderation system. I would prefer seeing tajara that get into trouble ICly managed by CCIA, perhaps with some PRA political pressure, as most IC issues on this server are. Since my promotion to administrator, and from my days within the CCIA/Duty Officer department, I feel that the current team there, as well as their policies, will be more effective in delegating these disputes in a more fair, structured way, given that proper channels and opening dialogue with all parties involved is one of their foremost operating procedures. Obviously, I would be working closely with them on investigations into tajara, however, I would prefer not using whitelist strips unless the issue itself was truly within the OOC realm. I feel that punishment and negative repercussions as a result of the choices that characters make should be handled ICly, on a case-by-case basis, with an arbitrary mindset and a steady hand. Similar to the previous lore overseer for tajara, Hive, I too would like to expand further on the civil war, including the military for both main sides, but would also like to incorporate the NKA onto the grand stage, and hopefully build them up more than what they are now. As it stands, it seems that the concept was never really finished. They are mentioned, however neither them or the ALA, for that matter, have as much established, written out lore readily available on the wiki page as the PRA, and I feel that the lore will be much more dynamic and intriguing were this not the case. New policies may be subject to change depending how said survey goes, and even afterwards, I'm planning on discussing the results at length with the rest of the lore staff to gather their opinions to see what will be viable for change and what won't. If any lore staff or what-not have any questions concerning any questions in this platform, feel free to ask away.
  4. Ckey/BYOND Username: Serveris6 Position Being Applied For (coder, mapper, spriter): Tajaran Lore Overseer Past Experiences/Knowledge: Experienced in html, css, and javascript. Relatively familiar with wikispaces and writing/editting wiki pages, and working around the user interface of our forums and wiki. Examples of Past Work: None; no experience persae in lore writing, hoping to add to the resume. Best I can provide is a lore canonization application which the previous lore overseer for tajara, Hivefleetchicken, approved. Preferred Mode of Communication (Skype, Steam, etc.): Discord or Steam. I am already in the lore_writers staff channel due to being an administrator. Additional Comments: Not entirely sure what criteria is being sought out here, and I'm not wanting to spew information here and ramble on about things that may not be relevant. Any specific concerns/questions information can be requested, and I'll simply state it as needed. Feedback of any sort is appreciated.
  5. After speaking with CCIA, this incident report has been deemed under administrative jurisdiction. They have been instructed to bin this while our staff process it.
  6. ..We do. We ban them hard. No idea why you would think this kind of shitty sportsmanship would go unpunished, but be assured, you're mistaken. Aurora staff crack down on this hard.
  7. This actually seems like a pretty solid idea, yeah. Can we make this happen? Feel like it'd be pretty simple code-wise. Paramedics have a pretty good reason for having this access as well. It'd definitely make responding in an Odysseus easier too. (Otherwise you have to climb out of the mech, force a lock with a crowbar, climb back inside, move the mech one tile, get out and close the lock again, then open the other firelock, if it's one of the layered ones, like the main hallways.)
  8. Oh. That's not so bad.
  9. What the fuck is happening?
  10. RIGHT. I've been neglecting this for far longer than I would've liked; I've had a very busy week and weekend due to real life concerns that have popped up, but I've also wanted to take some time to let this all sink in. I've spoken with several staff, some of which were present when this banned was applied, and some are completely arbitrary onlookers. All of which shared a similar opinion on the matter. You've received numerous warnings and notes for poor security decision-making skills, violations of some of our most basic OOC security expectations, and have been spoken to at least two dozen times by staff members concerning either motive or the execution of your actions as a security officer, with no tangible results. We continue having to speak with you, usually for the same things. Warnings and notes do not appear to be having any positive effect. Logically, this would be the next step. I've spoken with both head administrators concerning the matter, and reviewed your notes several times, giving the decision a lot of thought. Overall, it is my decision that this jobban will remain for the time being, however, in a couple weeks, assuming you do not cause issues elsewhere during this time, I would be willing to consider unbanning you from cadet so that you may have a chance to prove we can handle you in this role oncemore. At this time, however, you've given me very little reason to believe that unbanning you immediately wouldn't result in these problems re-occurring right away. If you can avoid moderator action for that long, I will contact you, informing you of my intention to remove the cadet jobban. Perhaps, from there, we can look at removing the bans for the rest of the security slots if administration can come to an agreement that as a cadet, your methodology has improved. Here's to hoping. As mentioned previously, at this time, I am standing on my decision to keep this ban in place for the time being, and I'll be actively tracking you in the coming days. Locking and archiving.
  11. Uh. What?
  12. As stated in PMs to you when this incident arose, I conferred with several other administrators, Shadow being one of them, whom was also on the server at the time. We decided unanimously that your temporary security jobban issued by Tablespoon several weeks ago hadn't really got through to you, given your notes continued to pile up concerning security play. This was hardly a rushed decision, but rather, as Shadow said, and listed in the ban reason, consistently poor decision making and attitude when playing as security. I would rather let you sit through this for a while before I consider lifting it. One day. Perhaps. I'm not entirely committed to this being until the heat death of the universe, but I do want it to remain in place long enough to sink in. Maybe try some other jobs. See what it's like watching security operate from the outside, and take note of how other officers handle issues.
  13. A good deal of people also play as legitimate visitors, with no NT affiliation. I remember one woman hung out in the bar all round because she won some sort of lottery to come aboard the Exodus for a day. She spent the entire round complaining about the bar being closed. Then got run-over by a MULEbot. Then decapitated with an energy sword. Good character, 10/10.
  14. This sounds pretty interesting. But no debuffs. Just add the new features. Otherwise they're going to be inefficient for dealing with ERP, and I'm going to have to start setting people on fire again.
  15. .. Honestly can't tell if this is a joke app?
  16. Some additional advice. Don't jerk the detective around in questioning. Presuming you were arrested for a high profile charge, ie, murder, infiltration, etc, assume he's actually done his homework. (A good detective will be citing their evidence against you in interrogation.) Boldly denying that you've ever touched a murder weapon when your fingerprints are all over it, directly proving that you have, in fact, touched the damn thing, isn't going to get you anywhere. The detective knows you're full of shit. The HoS knows you're full of shit. Just hone up to it, and see if you can direct the heat elsewhere. If a detective did his job properly, they have placed you at the scene of a crime inexplicitly, and probably have a pretty good idea what went down. If you're completely fucked and have no way out, consider actually confessing. If a detective vouches for you to the warden/head of security and says you were cooperative with them, this can actually lead to a significant reduction in your sentence. (Obviously if this is a murder charge or what-not, you're just waving the white flag. It might get you treated a bit better in the brig, though.)
  17. Whenever moderators stop and look at what you're doing, we always pull your notes and check for a past history. See if you have a habit of whatever it is that you're doing, and if you've been talked to it before. What I imagine here is Nursie followed this procedure once she became aware of the MULEbot rampage (either because someone reported it, or she noticed it on her own), and came to the conclusion that despite your numerous notes and warnings, you were still causing issues. Applying a tempban is the next escalated course of action.
  18. Hiya. So after reviewing the notes on all three of you, I've found that the ban has been mirrored across a grand total of ten times. You should be able to join the server now.
  19. Moderator application accepted as of September 1st. Welcome aboard, and congratulations!
  20. Trial extended through September. Will be up for review again in one month.

Then you're mistaken, and haven't really bothered weighing all the issues against it. My stance isn't based on one single player causing problems in command. My stance is based off of experience as an administrator and a moderator dealing with command staff as a whole. Based on the current climate and the active command population, as well as CCIA and administration's current burdens, I am decisively stating this has the strong chance to blow up in our faces. Be that as it may, I will also stand with Shadow and concede to community decision. But seriously. Think this through; really think this through before you commit to a decision. Weigh what can go wrong against the benefits provide. Disregard how you plan for it to be used for a moment, and think about how most players will actually end up using it.

It's being discussed in response to this thread. We're looking at tightening expectations and reorganizing CCIA protocol as an alternative to this.

A new system to eliminate the watchdogs' workload is entirely useless when the system itself must also be watched. This is just going to lead to more strain on administration for a minimal return. No. Keep the established power where it belongs, with the people whom are intended to have this power. CCIA follows a set protocol that requires set approval before they're even able to issue this punishment. If that's indeed the issue, then I can work with the current CCIA leader and make adjustments to it as necessary. Bottom line, I trust the people that have this power presently, because they are vetted much more thoroughly when they're selected, and I know I can trust them to get their facts lined up into a case to defend their actions. I can't say the same of command staff players as a whole when most of them can't even be assed to submit IRs or even keep CCIA in the loop on the disciplinary actions they can already execute.
  24. And we all know how much our tajaran playerbase respects the edicts of maturity on a state of the art research facility. .. Right? ... ... Guys?

    Job Suspension+

Have to say, I'm not entirely sure about this. It sounds like a promising idea, and in practice, I could see it working out quite well. My major and really only issue with this being, as Trick pointed out, the people having access to it. What we have here, as it was proposed, is effectively a full-stop jobban that whitelisted players can drop on other players. As anyone that's spoken to me at length can confirm, I really, really don't trust most whitelisted players these days with things as trivial as command slots. Honestly, as an administrator, I've had to jump on command staff so much the past couple months I'm really not sure if I can sign off on giving them something like this. Contrary to what Nanako stated, this is indeed a rather powerful thing that should be used extremely sparingly, and only for special case scenarios. I can honestly say I don't trust command whitelisted players as a whole having access to something like this with things as they are right now. I'd prefer it remain in the hands of CCIA. That being said, adding this in as a feature for their use would be wonderful. If station command staff want someone continuously suspended, all they have to do is fax, and an administrator or CCIA can apply it then and there, simple as.
