  1. Nanotrasen-New Kingdom joint venture into mining on Adhomai ((GONE VIOLENT)) FT. Everyone who is staffed at the Aurora. My idea sounds more cool, but this is pretty baller- though, I'd rather it be it's own side server, than something we get only sometimes. No fun if you can't settle in to things and establish characters for the setting.
  2. Perfect, honestly. Please add it. Update the descriptions too?
  3. But the difference between now, and with departmental security is you'll have an obligation to defend certain areas, over responding to threats. Currently, Officers will either group up, or patrol in pairs until there is a specific call out. With departmental security, you're going to be in an area, and then forced to decide whether it's worth going to respond to an exterior threat, or to stay within your department due to the obligation you have as per your role. If there's a shooting at X Department and I'm at Y Department as I have been assigned- is it in my interest to leave and go to the other department, when something similar may happen in my own? I can see a lot less movement from Officers, given the obligations they will have, and the fact that disorganization will lead to being poorly informed of the situation and under-equipped for most issues. Unless, of course, the intent is just for officers to disregard this department obligation in order to respond anyways, which makes no sense, given their purpose as Departmental Security.
  4. I did, which is unrelated as to why it should be embraced. It's just an answer to an issue created by the concept in the first place. Currently, if Security require orders they go to whomever is at the top of their chain of command. If there isn't a HoS, it's Captain, if not them, the HoP- if not them, the CE, RD or CMO. With departmental security, who are they answering to when there is no HoS, no Captain? In a round without Heads of Staff, what are they expected to do?
  5. Why? What does it bring to the table, that is not already possible?
  6. Always ask them if they have questions, don't ever just throw text walls at them. I almost always teach cadets the basics as well as CQC shit. Make sure they understand the basics, before anything else. If you can, use visual aids like screenshots and the like as well. And take into consideration they might not know what hotkey mode is.
  7. Top tier roleplayer. One of the best we have currently, and I say that with little stake in her characters. I have witnessed how she plays, and it is with roleplay as the primary focus, which is quite clear given her choice of role being psychiatrist, and Head of Personnel. +1 from me, I can see someone with a psych. background going into HOP/HR things.
  8. This doesn't sound like it's off topic, it sounds like it's a legitimate issue. I suggest making a policy change, about mice and requiring more RP be considered when dealing with them.
  9. The person being beaten was a Ling that had been captured and had blinded Carmichael with their ling tongue, and whose ling comrade had killed another Officer- who SSD'd- with a bone dart. Parry's character was witness to this, and the fight I had with the other ling, which included it showing it's blade arm. So he would have seen the ling's freakishly large tongue, and the other ling try to cut Carmichael in two with it's bladearm. Given that the ling being beaten to death by Parry was chanting and didn't seem to be doing much other than blinding and muting anyone near it, I would say it was alright for Parry's response to be "I'm just gonna crush it's head." I mean, he should be able to correlate the bladearm ling as being connected and similar to the long tongue acid ling. BUT he probably should have tried to get someone to handle it, and boarded the shuttle rather than stay behind to crush it's head. I mean, the other ling killed two officers by round end. So he should have taken that into account, even if the ling was someone incapable of reacting to the attempt at killing it.
  10. Or, perhaps, they could just call us instead of walking in with the full knowledge that this is an on-going danger that occures nearly every round. OR, maybe we shouldn't have RNG hostile creatures spawn in the warehouse? Overall, what does this add to the experience of the average round? Compared to now, what does this massive change to Security bring to the table for your average round, with your average players, and your average antag rolls? All I can see is a lot less fun for me, a lot less freedom to roleplay where and when I want too, a lot more opportunities for shitSec to abuse the constant overwatch of their assigned departments, and shitAntags to abuse the giant gaps in station security. I for one will not enjoy this change, as it is already something I am familiar with from other servers. I know what style of play it suits, and what sort of server makes use of it, and it is not us. You want department Sec? Go somewhere that's faster, that has antags going loud constantly and an easy way for station militias to get easy gear. If our INTENT is to have the non-security elements move to the forefront of combat and antag """interaction""", just change the policy on when we allow people to fight antags. I do not want to spend my rounds sitting in any of the departments, having to watch for antags the whole round- or expected to 'interact' with people by forcefully situating me in their department. I want to interact with characters as I see fit, just like everyone else. I consider it wholly unfair to suggest that security as a whole must be punished for the issue of ShitSec, by trying to metaphorically gimp the department. If this goes through, I will resent it and it's destruction of my favourite role. I do not come here to be some canary in the coalmine for cargo and RD to see die so they can arm to their teeth and """interact""" with the antags.
  11. I had a similar run-in with Prate. They didn't seem to think a player who was clearly new, playing an overtly racist character with literally no depth into them at the time, was not worth handling, and then had me break down my own opinion and suggestions for the standard of RP. This player has since wizened up, as I understand, but the point still stands that these sorts need to be directed in the right direction. I honestly thought this was just because the player I had ahelp'd hadn't done anything but annoy everyone over comms, but if he's also not attempting to deal with players acting as the one above, that's totally an issue.
  12. Draw-boot works, I believe. Just set it to a key. Mine is set to U.
  13. I haven't read anything, here. But I was present for the shuttle situation, and honestly, there was like 6 cargo people in RIGs carrying pickaxes and spears just telling us to fuck off. It was really tense, and I can totally understand sticking to your guns there. I also don't think it was known that the shotgun I was holding the entire time was loaded with lethal shells, otherwise I think the approach would have been different, as well as the response. Not that Carmichael is going to shoot someone like Harper- for anything. Just overall seemed like a tense sitatuation with fight or flight kicking in as the HoS stood there giving orders to the cargo posse and them trying to think out the odds on the situation before C/Tprs defuse it. Well, some atleast. The QM that shift was just a shitter. But the rest were armed and ready to fight us if we tried to detain them.
  14. And no, we don't need some special antag weapon, they already have a recharging laser rifle. Why would they need more? And why is RnD suppose to be a weapons manufacturing plant for Sec? Why not just make laser weapons powerpack fed? What is the harm in it? Who does it hurt?
  15. Most of those points are rendered moot when you factor in ballistics are going to do the job as good, and give you wiggle room for failure. There is nothing good in keeping lasers as they are. It's a silly concept ICly, and a horrible balance for being able to damage X species, and shoot through windows. Why is that even a factor in this? A single species being easier to destroy maybe making up 5% of the characters played and the fact we can shoot through windows is why we can't have powerpack fed lasers? Power packs ensure users that they aren't fucked the moment they run out of their 10-15 bolts.
  16. The plush is fine, it's like the action figures- they still have the old looks to each occupation. But I think the wizard should totally spawn these things instead.
  17. Love it, so much. We ought to have some new lore for them, as well.
  18. The ONLY remaps we need are ones that make use of the mid deck, and extend maintenance between decks. Honestly, put the service and dorm shit on the mid deck, main deck is for work stations. I dunno. But too big? No, hardly. The station is tiny, really. - t. guy that spends his rounds moving around the station
  19. Assistants are a placeholder. It's a means of new players to get familiar with the controls and do menial tasks if afforded some by actual departments. There's absolutely no reason why they should be encouraged to tamper with doors or weld shit if they are not within an engineering apprenticeship, nor a research internship, respectively. Majority of 'assistants' on station are actually visitors, just hanging outside of their normal occupation- so who are these things for? The new player who has not yet defined his character enough to fall within a department? So that may do whatever, with whatever. No one should be using maintenance, without a real reason. Whether that's occupational, or antag-based. In fact, that's the only reason maintenance is even a threat. Because access is limited. If anyone can go anywhere, at anytime, then there's no real threat or purpose to antags remaining in maintenance as cover because there's gonna be a bunch of visitors walking around. And if assistants get this access, why not everyone above them? I start playing, I choose assistant. I have access to maintenance. Now I want to play a nurse. Can't go in there. Why? Overall, no. Assistant should be limited, with a focus on pushing people into departments to learn skills, rather than just giving them access to things to use at their leisure. Greytide world wide is a LRP meme, and should not be encouraged. If you want to 'build' or 'hack' go into engineering. Don't roll assistant and run around with a tool belt.
  20. Is this relevant?
  21. I can support the wage gap update, if you do that. That's a perfect basis for unionizing, ect.
  22. Seconded. They're really good, surprised they don't have this whitelist already, would have thought they did.
  23. It's a really poor way to make a distinction. "These weapons are useful, these ones shoot through windows, but are not useful outside of this."
  24. If so, who?: N/A Actions taken: N/A Additional Notes: N/A
  25. @Kaed And for the energy weapons antags DO use, you get the captain's side arm, and the iceland rifle. Both of which have a means to replenish their ammo supply.
