  1. Because we are an RP platform built on a game. If there wasn't any balance, it would be garbage.
  2. Hello. As you all probably know, I'm a volunteer developer for this server. That generally means that I code for this server, yes. Along with that, I do it at no cost, as most of my fellow developers do. As you also know, 2020 is a fuck. A big fuck. In this recent month, I had a bit of a life event (not directly related to COVID-19) which caused me to lose a large chunk of my income. SO! For that reason, I've decided to create a Patreon, I figured it would be a good idea, I guess. Here it is: https://www.patreon.com/geevescode Why do I have a Patreon? Well, I need some sort of stable income which makes me feel less guilty of spending so much time coding. Will my content be paid only now? Yes! No. I'm a volunteer developer. I do not expect to be paid. I love this server and its people, which is why I have poured and intend to pour more of my effort into it. Do I do coding commissions? Yes, I actually created a Paypal for it. Usually I settle commissions in my DMs, which is: Deciding what the commissioner wants and when they'll pay me (on merge, on code completion, upon dev review, etc.). Commissions are an immediate cash boost, while a Patreon is a stable-ish income, both have their uses. Will you implement my request if I pay you? I'll do anything for $100. No, most likely not. I'm still in a position where I have to consider what's healthy for the server over what's healthy for my wallet, which sounds cliche as fuck, damn. I hate it. Do Patreon members get explicit benefits over other members of the server? Absolutely not! Unless my increased love and affection counts as a benefit. I still offer my services to non-paying members. That being: My volunteer developer duties (DUH), tutoring people who want to learn how to code, helping people with their Unathi whitelists, rating your shitposts, etc. Thanks for reading, and thanks for those already supporting me. I appreciate it a ton. More shitcode to come from me. Lots more, hopefully.
  3. this was merged 3 days ago https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8634
  4. instead of brutalizing civvies with excessive force, they'll do it by capitivating our vision and blinding us to lesser surroundings top one is sec, bottom one is research if there is more support i'll make a pinker for the soviet rhodesian stinker if there's even more support, i'll open a PR
  5. Lay thine eyes on codersprites, and rejoice, for hue shifting does not require skill.
  6. This is a really good idea, I like it
  7. I agree that the general perception of Necropolis officers are stupid russian goons wearing balaclavas dispensing justice as if they were Dredd, but where's your sources on Necropolis being implemented by mistake, or being a bug? Isn't the security blurb written specifically for them? EDIT: Vox weren't retconned either, they still exist in lore (as of making this edit), they're just not playable anymore.
  8. With the tweaks in my PR, taser-like weapons do jack shit against anyone with basic armour, like the heavy vest traitors can get, or something like engineering voidsuits. Meaning that they won't absolutely wreck antags with their lethal bullets anymore.

  10. ha depending on the content of the teaching, someone could notarize it in a google doc and publish it, as one would do in an actual university. probably. maybe. depends a lot on how things are run
  11. Generally speaking, calling security on antags means they're going to die in the next few minutes. A good deterrence, as a command member, is to negotiate with them, or throw credits at them. I've done it quite a few times. In this case, you would probably open with what you intend to do, dealing with the blob, and asking if they want to leave you alone or even help you with it. If they then actually aim at you or start blasting, you run away and call for security. Otherwise, talk it out.
  12. Hello, as a command member, your first and foremost job is to make a round fun. In doing so, you have the generate opportunities for both crewmembers and antagonists to create some sort of storyline. In the past round, the Spy vs. Spy one, you had a run-in with an antag. Could you please elaborate what ignoring a threat from "an intruder" standing near you with one tile between, and calling the ganksquad to come and take them out of the round, contributed? You seem fine (and even good!) in other aspects, as the posters above point out, but perhaps you could try and treat the valids a bit better, aye. Playing along could lead to some pretty good interactions, and if not, you're taken out of a probably bad round anyhow. Stonks.
  13. As someone who has worked directly with Skull for quite some time now, I can guarantee that this'll be a pretty good experience. For anyone scared of doing something with our host and head dev, don't be, he's as dangerous as kitten with little programmer socks. He used to help me in the beginning (still does tbh) and it genuinely helped a lot, and the cold emotionless husk of a cranium actually seemed to enjoy helping dumbass me, so, if you were iffy about joining, give it a shot.
  14. I have already given Shadow some feedback in DMs. I recommend anyone commenting here to not just note that they're a good roleplayer, but to judge the application on merit of applying for a race, not applying for good roleplayer stickers.
  15. I spoke a bit with Hepatica yesterday in dchat, about being command and all that. I believe they took my advice well enough, and I think they would be a good addition to our command ranks. My only concern is with something I saw a few rounds ago, where ISU-Brick executed a wizard by stomping and crushing them to death, after being EMP'd. I can only assume that that was validhunting. For that reason, I'd urge you to try to avoid going Head of Security after getting your whitelist, or to try your best and be a laid back delegation kind of HoS if you do. However, you've told me, and shown here, that you intend to go RD and HoP mainly. My concern applies, as I have seen batshit crazy validhunting RDs. However, as we discussed yesterday, I don't think this will a problem for you at all, as you mentioned what you intend to do. I think you'll manage to do really well in these roles. I wish you luck on your trial, if you get it. +1
  16. Hello, Unathi Lore Deputy here. I didn't find a single reference for Sinta'Unathi calling it alchemy, but feel free to link where you found it. Sinta'unathi pre-contact war were on the same level as we humans are now in 2020. The best reference I could find was this, https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skalamar_University_Of_Medicine , where it shows the Skalamar University of Medicine is pretty much galactically accredited up to PhD levels, which means they probably use the correct terms. Considering that original Aut'akh are supposed to be lead scientists and engineers, I see no reason for them to bumblefuck around with archaic terms. Anyhow, that's me as Deputy, if Sleepy says otherwise, they can override my judgement.
  17. Voting for dismisal. Making it a gamemode would suck all fun out of it.
  18. i accidentally did this PR at the same time you suggested it: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8499
  19. antags should be easier to play than ever, by efforts of myself and my fellow devs. i trust that the playerbase can handle playing a role they might not know all about. if anyone struggles with an antag because they find what to do or which ability does what confusing, contact me on discord, so i can streamline it. the new player experience is something i'd like to work on, and new people playing antags is a part of that. anyhow, don't gank, have fun.
  20. Not exactly what you asked for, but this'll do: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/8492 The issue with huge ore satchels is that the inventory code really, really doesn't like bags that have a ton of shit in them, this is understandable. My PR circumvents the inventory system (hopefully) by yeeting ore directly at the ore box by bluespace shenanigans. Mining satchels can: - Have warp extraction packs be attached to them, I imagine it's like putting it in so it's like a backpack within a backpack. Try to not think about it too much, it's science. - If they have a bluespace pack connected to them, be clicked on an ore box that has a warp extraction beacon signaller, which links the two with bluespace power. - If they have a pack and a linked ore box, be attached to a drill, which will then teleport mined materials into the linked ore box. - If they have a pack and a linked ore box, ore put into it manually will teleport into the linked ore box. - Have their bluespace packs removed by clicking on them with a screwdriver. Why do you need one to take out a backpack? Try not to think about it too much, it's science. Ore boxes can: - Have warp extraction beacon signallers attached to them, how that works is probably self-explanatory. The rest is listed above. - Remove their beacons by clicking on them with your BARE HAND!! Mining drills can: - Have mining satchels that have both bluespace packs and a linked ore box attached to them. The rest is listed above. - Remove their mining satchels by clicking on them with a wrench. If a linked ore box loses its beacon, the satchels SHOULD be able to handle it and go, "uh oh, we lost our ore box! keep our contents", which is good. Hopefully. Storage code is butts. Warning: Warp signaller beacons, when deployed in hand, can not be taken down without admin help, currently. This'll probably change soon when I figure out the specifics. However, beacons attached to ore boxes can be taken down by clicking on them with your hand.
