[Resolved] Player Complaint - Abendroth, RoderickGrey
SierraKomodo replied to Brayce's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
As the IAA that late-joined into the middle of this, I'm just going to mention most of this following the initial torture incident was a massive cluster fuck of communication failures between command staff and security, and a failure on security's part to obey the chain of command, and a failure on the CE's part to follow the chain of command. If it weren't for antag involvement I'd expect everyone involved to at the least been reprimanded by CCIA. -
Byond key: SierraKomodo Character names: Amos McBell, Ariana Eshlian, Azaela Nejem, D'ar'rhe Mia'asika'zar, E.C.O.M., Miraj Zi'Ad, Katana Silvers, Rasine Ha'kim, Kylan Lo'Rah, Johnathan Rase, Saite Kesra, Samantha Black, Siiead Kesra, Sarah Wolfe, Jack Wolfe, Sean Zelios, Sairis Helosi, Zakiya Ahmad, Ziva Ta'kim, Tali Mi'hil, Titus Young II, Kunai, Zakiya Ahmad What times are you available? In GMT: Varying. My work doesn't have a set schedule. Typically 6PM GMT to 6AM GMT Do you have any experience with Moderating? Or similar. Yes; I also have experience as CCIA and forum moderating on Aurora; I left last time because I spread myself way too thin between custom item stuff, the aurora web interface, forum moderating, CCIA, personal projects, and my job. Why do you want to be a Duty Officer? I'd like to get back into helping get through these incident reports, handling in game faxxes, and doing a few things here and there to help spice up rounds every now and then like I had before as a duty officer. Also, they keep asking me when I'm coming back. How well can you handle stress? I'm honestly not sure if this is the best way to handle things, but I tend to take a break for awhile if things get really bad - On aurora, that usually involves going SSD for about half an hour, or skipping a round that I otherwise would have joined in on. There are times where I'll throw a message out there I shouldn't have sent before leaving, acting without thinking, but that isn't as common now (Been working on it). What does it mean to be a Duty Officer? It's a position of responsibility and some power, and means that we're the ones that ICly handle IC issues, particularly those from repeat offenders that are reported in the incident reports threads. The point of this being not to flex our power or focus on punishments, but to provide IC incentive and consequences for character's actions. Also, to fuck bitches and talk about Tajaran penises in dosay. How active on the forums and server are you? I'm on every day, although I'm more of a forum lurker than a forum poster these days. Anything else to add? I won't be returning Jonathan Rase; He's permanently retired. I'll either bring on Sarah Wolfe, or come up with a new CCIA.

Since this is apparently intended behaviour and not a 'bug', as per https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/issues/844 The whole point of an extended round being voted for is that people want a 100% canon round that focuses on RP, without antags being thrown into the mix. When this RNG event occurs that creates antags in an extended round, it causes confusion on 'Are there antags or are people being shits? Did the admins start an event? Is any of this canon?' and also creates frustration for people that voted and joined an extended round expecting a certain kind of round and getting something entirely different. The server lasted for a very long time without an RNG event randomly adding antags to an extended round; Why is this now suddenly a thing that's intended without the playerbase even being told about it?
-
But every command player has the ability to create a captain on a whim. I've seen whitelisted players join as a one-off captain character on mutiny and rev rounds and spend the whole round being complete and utter idiots. I don't trust those people with the ability to provide extended punishments outside of the current round.

Tajaran Fluff Myth Debunking or something
SierraKomodo replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in General
Yeah, I think Skull's pretty much hit the nail on the head here. The only form of communication I've seen was that PM and these forum posts Hive's been putting up that certainly don't sound like my characters are in the clear. -
Tajaran Fluff Myth Debunking or something
SierraKomodo replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in General
I think Nebula covered quite a bit of my own thoughts on this. But, I just want to add that I'm one of those people who's basically stopped playing my Tajara except on rare occasions because I'm, quite frankly, concerned of either A: Being told my character's been permanently shipped off to the gulag, or B: Having my whitelist revoked. Every single one of my characters has at least one of the traits you consistantly name as being bad. Ziva's supposed to be a light-hearted, friendly, open-minded sort of character. Rasine's supposed to be a moody, self-sufficient, crippled loner that angers easily but has been undergoing anger management (with some difficulties). She even has a history/backstory that tells /why/ she's like this. Sai'da's supposed to be a character raised on Biesel, in the Little Adhomai district where it's basically been described as Space Detroit, and is supposed to have an attitude as a result. I had to leave a round while playing Ziva last night because I couldn't comfortably portray her friendliness or open-mindedness without being worried about getting a PM from Hive. I've outright stopped playing Rasine, Sai'da, and D'ar'rhe because of similar concerns. Miraj, Azaela, and Mimirkra I've stopped playing because the lore's changed so much regarding inter-Tajara racism that their backstories from Adhomai just don't seem to fit anymore. I'm basically at a point here where I'm not comfortable playing any of my tajara characters, even the one that I'd been developing for over a year on Aurora, who was my whitelist character and everyone enjoyed interacting with. Hell, I had to completely retcon and changedefining traits about Rasine's past and personality just to be able to play her again, and now things have gotten more strict. Couple that with the fact you're, quite literally, coming on station ICly just to stalk tajara players and find IC reasons to ship those characters off to the mines doesn't help matters much. P.S.: Going to add in here that while yes, I am a furry, that has little influence in any of my characters. The closest thing to a 'self insert/personafied' character I played was a human, Sairis Helosi. -
I'm just going to come right up and say No. Fuck no. There are several people who while I'm fine with them having a command whitelist, there is no way in hell I would ever trust giving them this level of power. Additionally, why would you be punishing a player for the /next/ round for events that occurred in the previous round - Particularly when things may have been antag related. If you're going to give the argument of consistent trouble makers, there's a sub forum for character complaints where you can bring that issue up to admins to be dealt with, a sub forum for incident reports to deal with it ICly, or you can even send in an ahelp/in round fax about them.
-
And note that a moderator announced a one-day ban for anyone calling additional votes /before/ you called yours, and this after several warnings from various staff to stop calling the votes.
-
You know.. This entire time I thought it said interfere, not interact. I've been breaking that law /alot/ then.

A Conversation in the Head of Personnel's Office
SierraKomodo replied to Nikov's topic in Hall Of Fame
See, here's something that I think better fits what the hall of fame is supposed to be - It's showcasing an excellent moment of roleplaying as oppose to 'Heres a funny thing that happened have a chuckle'. (Even if there's some questioning of certain details being canon/snowflakey) -
That and one EMP in or near the AI core will hit the entire central ring and kill/cripple any synths or mechanical-implanted folk unlucky enough to be in that central ring; That range is ridiculous.

Investigations And Character Removals - [CANCELLED]
SierraKomodo replied to a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I 'spose, I actually want to get taken away by the kitty police as a result of someone else seeing me pulling treasonous shit at some point though. Just not the same if the character doesn't show up one day because I arbitrarily decided someone found out, s'not the same at all. You could probably work that out with CCIA/Hive. -

Regarding Bluesec (Feedback/Opinions)
SierraKomodo replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
You're comparing apples with oranges, that's not fair or meaningful. We already have the one you linked there This is my usual red security uniform Also black is neither here nor there, this is blue vs red. And did you see how much black was in those voidsuits? If large amounts of black bother you, i don't see why you'd support this change I think the point he was trying to make was the lack of detail in the black uniform - Specifically that the sprite is a mass of the same RGB code, whereas those void suit sprites have detail in the way of shading and such, without being a mass of a single RGB code. -
Maintenance Drones should not explode upon leaving the station's Z-Level
SierraKomodo replied to Arzion's topic in Archive
I have no issues with exploding drones when they leave a station z-level. However, I do think they should be allowed to go to the outposts and telecomms without exploding, and possibly the construction site. -
Regarding Bluesec (Feedback/Opinions)
SierraKomodo replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
Bluesec was one of the things that made Aurora just a bit more different from the other servers back in old code. I'm all for bringing it back. -
Yeah, it was never randomly displayed by any algorithm, rather CCIAAs randomly pick one from the template list. Hmm, you're right though. We could just as easily keep a thread up in the head of staff section or maybe even the NT personnel database. I didn't know that everyone could look at it on the WI, I missed your post earlier. So there is one place which for sure has them all that is public access. We do already have a thread up for this. Nobody bothers to read it. Back when I was CCIA, I made this thread for this exact purpose and it was mostly ignored by the playerbase: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=5539

Well, if we assume that the vendors doesn't magically print them, they should be filled. Vendors have a finite supply, indicating they're pre-stocked with what one would hope are charged cells.

The issue with using general notices for this is the complete lack of specific details due to needing to keep it from being a wall of text in game. For comparison: Uniform regulation on the notice board: https://byond.aurorastation.org/ccia/generalnotice/7/show Uniform regulation as the fully detailed forum post: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=5539#p55288

There are two reasons why providing a cyborg with a radio instead of mobility when EMP'd is a bad idea: 1: Consistancy. Anything else that gets EMP'd with a radio loses that radio for a time and/or has to reset the radio to turn it back on; Cyborgs should be no different. 2: Balance. As has already been said, having the radio but no movement is just going to encourage 'ANTAG MCGEE HAS EMPS IN LOCKER ROOM HELP ME' because the cyborg will literally be unable to do anything else to escape or save itself.

There's a 'chemistry' variant sprite for the crisis borg.

[ACCEPTED] Ahdomai Rangers
SierraKomodo replied to Serveris's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
I thought you already had this put up and approved awhile ago, or is this a different set of Adhomai military specialists? -
As LordFowl said, the issue tracker on github for Aurora is primarily for bug reports; I've been told not to post 'minor' suggestions there in the past
