So there was an idea on the Discord for tractor beams, I thought I'd write up a bit of an idea on the things they could do. Collect crates/cargo launched by a mass driver from another ship. This launched cargo would show on the overmap, allowing it to be intercepted (AKA, stolen) by another vessel with a tractor beam. Drag in small asteroids to be mined. These would of course have far less to harvest from compared to the large asteroids shuttles can fly to, but would be safer. Drag in parts of wrecks to be salvaged. This would be similar to asteroids, but it would pull in a random wrecked shuttle/chunk of ship map wreck, which could then be salvaged from. Slow down other ships. This could be used to stop ships that are adrift. It could easily be overpowered by a ship that is still being controlled, but for one that is not piloted and is flying out of control, could be brought to a halt that way. It could also be used to bring ships with their thrusters destroyed to a halt for a boarding party to attack. I imagine the tractor beam on the Horizon would be controlled by Operations, bringing any pulled in asteroids/salvage/cargo onto a special pad. This could then be mined/salvaged/the cargo brought off the pad, before the rest is jettisoned, and removed from the game (with things in place similar to the cargo shuttle to stop living mobs getting deleted) The way it could work could be that there are the small asteroids/wrecks on the overmap, which are targeted by the tractor beam console, similar to ship weapons, and pulled in.

Change Science to an Expedition-focused department
greenjoe replied to ReadThisNamePlz's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
If R&D was changed to manufacturing done by operations I'd want it to be a new role, separate from machinist, so a character who is just manufacturing things for the ship isn't forced into doing borgings and robot related things too -
Change Science to an Expedition-focused department

One thought I had was moving some stuff that was made in R&D into Operations, adding a manufacturing element to them. As for how manufacturing could be set up, I'm not entirely sure on, but it is an idea I'm putting down. Otherwise, I'm all for this, exploration based department is a cool idea. -
Lore Impact (Small/Medium/Large): small to medium? Species: Not really species related, instead corporation related. Short Description: Fast food subsidiary for Orion Express. How will this be reflected on-station?: Addition that can tie into Orion being in the service department. Orion cooks could run the kitchen based on it, maybe also a kitchen sign if a sprite can be made, and maybe also new food items based around fast food. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: I don't think so? Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team?: yes Long Description: CEO: Johnathan Whittier, 36, human QuickMeals is a subsidiary of Orion Express that sells cheap, quick and easy food across the galaxy. QuickMeals locations can be found that offer both eat-in and takeaway services, in addition to this, QuickMeals offers delivery to locations local to their brick and mortar restaurants. QuickMeals food is made from cheap ingredients in large batches, and cooked onsite. While in many places the menu for QuickMeals is the same, consisting of foods such as burgers and wraps, in some others it varies to fit the lcocal populations, such as tajaran fast food being offered in Adhomian locations. The company was previously under NanoTrasen, but was transferred to Orion Express via a internal deal within the SCC not long after Orion was founded. After this happened, Orion started to open more QuickMeals locations where NT had previously not. Notes: I'm fine with some stuff being shuffled around a bit, and in terms of the name, I had at first thought of the name QuickBurger, but changed it after some talk on the discord about the fact that burgers may not be too known in some of the places they operate.

One idea I had regarding suit sensors was to turn the sensor thing into its own physical item that attaches to clothes if it is removed that item of clothing no longer can use suit sensors until it is turned back on
-
There was a PR posted that limted higher sensor levels to raised alert level, as well as remove suit sensors from non-uniform clothing.
-
Since there has been some talk about this recently, I've thought it may be an idea to make this for a place for people to put down ideas for possible ways sensors could be 'nerfed'

I'm curious on how it will be handled canon-wise would current sec industrial IPCs be required to retcon their character being an industrial frame or end them entirely?
-
Title says it all, really. I feel like it would be a neat thing to have and could work well with Idris-Tajara lore, such as their presence in the New Kingdom.

i'm not sure how much aurora has in the way of dexterity mechanics, I think the PRA taj FBP has something that means some stuff can't be used by it..? edit: on further inspection that seems to just block the use of guns and is applied on the species rather then prosthetic. -

I'd feel they should be able to, for poor characters who might not afford/want a robotic prosthetic -

maybe non-robotic prosthetics would be freely attachable/removeable, since rather then being grafted on, they're literally just strapped on/slotted over a stump -
