1. This is 100% totally and completely something you SHOULD HAVE AHELPED REEEEEEEEEEE. Heckling antags and trying to bait them into attacking you isn't allowed.
2. Ill ping tomiix about this. Where you offline at the end there? Did you ahelp at all about "yo wtf this warning dude"?
3. Yeah this change just feels wrong. I think janitors should stay in the civillian department. That being said the janitor armory is amazing. please keep that.
4. No, i am sorry but i disagree. Generally when i look at a fancy new feature or a new set of mechanics i have to ask two questions. How difficult will this be to administrate effectively and what area of the server is this improving upon? Lets assume for the moment that it is an objective improvement for the server. I would still be against this wholeheartedly. In my two years of doing this job i have learned that no matter what boundaries you set they will be challenged. Often in frustrating ways. The question shifts from "how can i make a reasonable character" to "how unreasonable of a character can i get away with"? A blanket policy or a giant line drawn to cover everything is rarely effective in the game of roleplay. You have to make distinctions based on different situations. Its abusable to a huge degree but its part of the job and something myself and the rest of the staff team can deal with. Psionics is not something i am comfortable dealing with because i think it will a much bigger problem to deal with than the situations i just described. Suddenly we have to arbitrate policy on X situation or Y situation because of Z power. Can we reasonably expect a character who can turn into a hulk to NOT use them to fight the antags? Should we curtail the powers with arbitrary RP guidelines? I can tell i certainly do not miss genetics for all of these reasons. It was a giant headache at worst and a semi-funny meme at best.
5. Strongly against psionics. The crew are not special outside of gaining antagonist abilities in non-canon rounds. A mechanism for gaining and developing powers sounds like an administrative and balance nightmare. Too little and it becomes cliquey and incredibly rare. Too often and we basically become Hogwarts. I do not think either is very appropriate for our setting in canon rounds.
6. Im really not interested in debating semantics here man. You where given an order and had ample time to acknowledge said order based on the logs and prate's testimony. This was a very specific situation. It doesnt set any kind of "precedent" that will let you kill nymphs on sight whenever you want.
7. Yeah, sorry to say man but i do not see an issue with how prate handled this. Your yourself admit you didn't pay attention to the first "stay on the shuttle" order. I get WHY but it unfortunately does give the big scary death squad officer a reason to cut you up.
8. Ill take a look over this Wednesday at about 1am. Pretty busy with things until then.
9. Long as you arent gaining any meta information of antags or things related to antags. You can just muddle the details. So a nuclear operative blowing your hand off could turn into a work accident chopping your hand off. Even if your character dies during an extended round you dont have to lose your character. You can just pretend a medical professional got there "just in time" or you did actually get cloned even if you didn't.
10. First things first i want to address this point you made. There are some things to understand about how we as a staff team operate. We do not just hand out bans. This is especially true for first offences. As long as you're not intentionally griefing its almost impossible to get banned for a first offence. Added to that we have a decent staff to player ratio and we tend to be pretty light on bans. It has been more effective in our experience to curb problematic behavior with a few notes and warnings and then heavy bans if the behavior continues. As such the overwhelming majority of ahelps end with just a note or maybe a warning. This isnt because we are unwilling to ban people its because most just dont have a history of bad behavior. That being said theres definitely been more than a couple times where we have went "yo.... why havent we permad this nerd yet?". I certainly will not pretend we are above criticism. I can completely understand why people could think this. There are significant issues with this statement though. The biggest one in my opinion is that we as staff can generally only react to a problem. We all have lives and other interests and just cannot sit around and observe everything that goes on in the round. Even when an issue does occur all we can really do is attempt to correct the behavior for the future. We cannot really undo the antag who shot up medbay for no reason. Outside of malicious grief we tend to just let the round continue as is. The reason for this is it becomes even more of a hassle when we try to retconn an event half the server witnessed. Suddenly everyone has to forget it and it disturbs the round flow way worse than if we had just left it. Another thing to keep in mind is that while we are not omniscient we do have access to a great deal of information. During an ahelp we can examine attack logs, we can PM players and we can do our best to seperate the facts from the fancy. What may appear to be gank or "bad roleplay" from your perspective might end up being a carefully crafted machination by the rounds antagonist. We generally cannot even elaborate on the specifics other than "sorry but its legit THIS TIME" due to IC in OOC issues. Yeah this is a good point. Unfortunately thats just kinda how the game works. I dont think its reasonably possible for us to force antagonists to be creative enough to involve a large portion of the station. You're lucky if you can involve one of them. This is a lot easier to do though if you are an extremely powerful antagonist. good wizards or ninjas can do a lot of stuff. Those roles are very rare for an individual player and they require you to "git gud" with the mechanics of them. This one is a really complex issue. I have seen it happen hundreds and hundreds of times in my over two years of doing this job. Whenever an antag tries to focus on "more people" or "the whole crew" they almost always just end up being an awful peace antag or they do things that nobody ends up noticing. In short spreading a wide net just dilutes the antagonist stuff they would get up to. Antagonists must in some way act as an "opposing force". Antagonists must escalate properly and they must have a goal or a reason behind their murder and chaos. As long as those conditions are fufilled i dont really care what you do. I am generally super uncomfortable in telling people EXACTLY how to roleplay. "you need to interact with MORE people than you currently are" its already incredibly difficult to antag as it is. Now that being said i can and DO encourage antagonists away from... lets say "less than healthy" gimmicks. so no please dont pretend to be station inspectors for the ten thousandth time and please dont play as your normal crewmember but with super powers. "i bullied this one dude" isnt really a satisfactory fufillment of the opposing force clause. With AOOC being a thing now you can talk amongst your team to think of a plan or a general goal and you can even ahelp for some guidance. The latter there admittedly has mixed success. I certainly am not the creative sort. In short i would say that you have good points but all of them are giant and complex issues. None of them are as simple as "punish bad behavior" or "stop being selfish". I think we could definetly do things to encourage good behavior.
11. I support this suggestion. Its neat to crush people to death.
12. Sounds good to me. Read the rules when you join and absolutely do not do that again. I will go ahead and lift the ban.
13. The main thing i am not ok with is command playing service roles. I think the more we let people job hop the less an individual job actually matters. ends up cheapening the entire station. I really dont even like the rest of the crew job hopping at all. Thats not actually the law of aurora just a personal feeling of mine. The reason is because for every one person that takes the time to make a believable character with realistic strengths and weaknesses there is five people who will stretch the envelope and then argue with me. "uhhh its completely reasonably for me to play in three departments because of xyz". It makes me want to commit sudoku. Realistically its only the one thing i am not ok with. Command playing service roles or really any other role unless they have records to back it up. This is honestly one of my biggest gripes with aurora right now. We have essentially zero species restrictions in a universe that is supposedly full of racial tension. Then the more we allow jop hopping on top of that just makes things really watered down. Im really the last person who should be pulling this card but its "ruining my immersion".
14. The point i am trying to make is that this is a formula you have repeated numerous times. We have pretty good documentation on it. You get upset over "a thing" and then you lash towards anyone in your vicinity. "Sassy and unhelpful" is just one facet of the conglomerate that is the issue with your attitude. I know you might think this is an albatross around your neck. When i continuously see behavior that got you permabanned TWICE i am forced to question my decision to unban you in the first place. I really dont want to sound like an asshole but i need to be extremely honest. At best it seems you have only improved on the surface and when the situation gets tense you retreat back to your old ways. How many more times am i going to have to say this?
15. Didn't i just warn you about this a month ago and isnt this what got you banned before? As far as the rest of this complaint is concerned this will probably be finalized by tomorrow.
16. three black characters with stereotypical black names all playing atmos tech and doing the bare minimum of IC communication. I watched one of you make a high powered pipe and winded all three of you when one of you was about to modify one of the pipes. sure looked and sounded bad to me. Honestly i was in a pretty bad mood last night so maybe i jumped too soon. ill go ahead and lift the bans.
17. Also i am interested in your response to this Tomiix Specifically the issues of what got this denied. Has your activity improved.
18. Application reopened on request of the OP.
19. Horrible idea. Getting shot is already a dice roll. Are there competent medical people playing that shift or are you going to die in surgery? You cannot reasonably expect me to sit around for 30 minutes while im being healed. I can ghost and respawn in 20.
20. Application denied. If you would like to re-apply in the future or PM staff about specifics then feel free to.
21. alrighty, appeal accepted. just read the rules and dont be a butt.
22. oki doki. Long as you promise to read the rules. Appeal accepted.
