  1. This is a wee bit of a necro-thread, but the way I personally do it is like this: Like the rules say, antagonist play is usually not canon, so many of the horrible things that happen in most rounds aren't remembered, or the names/dates/details are all muddled to the point where everyone wouldn't agree on what exactly happened. The station certainly doesn't blow up from mercenaries every third shift, and instances of an actual malfunctioning NT AI are extremely rare, etc.. Canon events that involve antags are usually custom run by admins and lore team event organizers, often announced in-game. However, non-antagonist interactions between players, like all the conversations, training, bar-fights, locker-room makeouts and that time engineering turned drone fabrication into a disco because they were bored can be remembered by people and carry across rounds. This is why on extended gamemode where there are no antagonists nearly everything is considered canon. Due to these things, and also due to us running on a 1:1 time scale (April 22nd 2017 is April 22nd 2459, even if you've gone home at the end of each of four shifts in a row), I take all the canon interactions I've had from the rounds I play in a day and stitch them into the same 'workday' that my character then remembers. So yesterday was a single workday, in which my character did all the 'canon' things from yesterday's rounds, but there wasn't a guy running around claiming to be a wizard, no-one got killed in maintenance by that changeling, and what even IS a cult of Nar'sie? It's not perfect, but it's a way to have antag play and canon workdays without everyone becoming a PTSD-ridden, lawsuit-writing, cloned-seventeen-times wreck from all the trauma.

  3. After checking with admin staff and confirming that the behavior in this report was dealt with as an OOC issue in the round, this IR is being closed.
  4. This is actually standard procedure. It was changed last year at some point.
  5. As the AI, you are law-bound to spam disparaging AI announcements and make passive aggressive comments on comms about any crewman you dislike. Everyone needs to know. Do not let the fact that you are functionally without emotions stop you from being controlled by them.
  6. Skull's said in the past that wazwooz/ninja/malfAI/ling show up more often due to their mechanical viability during lowpop rounds compared to other modes. Are we seeing too much of these during primetime? I feel like many of them are actually pretty rare when we're above 30+ players. Also yes, Rev is definitely in the secret rotation. It's also arguably harder to set up one than cult, and fewer people seem to like it, from what I can tell.

  8. In my opinion, removing the security frequency from the headset would not make the warrior-security HoPs less warlike. It would just make their warrior-security responses less effective. I like having a better way to reach out to security as a Head of Personnel, and a better way to listen to ongoing security developments. It helps me coordinate actions with the mess of civilians that I'm responsible for. Generally speaking, address people who abuse their equipment, not the equipment. The roles are whitelisted for several reasons.
  9. I think your response can still be relevant to the OP as far as explaining why circumstances are different now, compared to the last time we could have MMIs in IPCs. Otherwise, I'm still pretty much of a mind that they should be back, as a decision that's additive rather than restrictive. The questions surrounding its use as a punishment and whatever stigmas or implications we mean for the condition to have can be figured out in another place. Edit: That's one thing down at least!
  10. This threatens to get away from the suggestion's OP as posted a bit, but what did we do back when MMI integration was implemented, to address that concern? My default is always to lean toward the more enabling choice on the player side mechanically. Wouldn't we have to put it on them, rather than you, to explain the why and how? (Also since it bears repeating: skin color AND eye color, please!)
  11. I've seen a little bit of Lysander on the NTN Relay as a pAI, and more than a lot of Moondancer and their roster of tremendous nerd characters since coming back last fall. There are few players I know who devote quite so much time and care to not only the fictional material they come up with, but also (in the case of robots and robot designers) to the disruptive sci-fi questions that their characters might pose, or want to answer. I also like that this application uses the server's recent events and happenings from IC/In-game interactions as a little springboard to prompt the character's creation. Background lore is at its best when players are doing something with it, rather than just reacting to the circumstances that they find themselves in. There's also an unhealthy addiction to developing strong source material going on. This is a player who asked me if it might be a good idea to write out an IC grant paper as a supporting document for their character. It's hard for me to say no to someone like that. I'm looking forward to this one!
  12. Yes please! This extends to eye color as well in my case, as it does not appear to change regardless of what I set it to. Spending exorbitant amounts on cosmetic changes to a frame should allow it to possess irises that aren't a weird milky blue. Also yes please. While there's a lore element involved in the decision-making here, I have a difficult time imagining a future world in which this isn't a choice. If someone does abuse it, individual cases can be addressed, but I think the option is more enabling than it is any kind of risk. And if it really is just gone because Bay doesn't have it, then I'm all for supporting it again on new code.
  13. Giving this one a bit of a bump, since I was about to write my own thread about adding some sort of bar-themed ChemMaster 3000 to the bar backroom, and that idea is incorporated in this. Giving bartenders the ability to make their own bottles of mixers/irish cream/intermediate ingredients is nicer than having to store them in 30 unit glasses, or just dispensing finished drinks from the drink showcase. The customization suggested in the OP would be welcome as well, though I'd be just as happy expanding our menu of server-specific drinks.
  14. By the decision of the reporting party, this incident report has been closed.
  15. This. I feel like making cloning harder would pretty much just hurt the lowpop rounds where some of the only players online are less likely to have a competent surgeon or medical cyborg on hand to address any extra medical problems. What are we gaining by complicating this mechanic? If players aren't correctly/adequately roleplaying the condition of being cloned, they're basically not roleplaying believably and it's supposed to be bwoinkable. All we write in our rules is that it 'should be a traumatic experience.' If expectations were a bit stronger in the rules, or the effects more explicitly described to the player in the text they get when respawning in the clone pod (because everybody reads the rules amirite) maybe that's all I would want to change. More clicking is not usually more interesting for anyone. That said, if we HAD to complicate it just because, I'd be in favor of the credit charge (more interesting when the persistent economy never happens is implemented - bankruptcy = permadeath?) or another change that is more roleplay focused than randomly not having a liver. We should be putting it on players to make it a significant thing for a character, not the game mechanics. Attempts to reconcile silly gameplay with a serious concept will end in dissatisfaction.
  16. I appreciate this backstory's details, and like Mofo mentioned, having a character whose personal conflicts are not directly tied to the civil war on his homeworld is a refreshing change of pace. I don't think that the onset of another questionably-ethical character should be a negative in a Tajaran whitelist application, either. War has a way of subverting people and their morals, and Firdaus is a well-illustrated product of those conflicts, even as he seems to have escaped much of the suffering they cause. It's even a bit refreshing to see someone who isn't entirely being exploited by NanoTrasen - in this case, it seems like Firdaus is taking the initiative to prop himself up rather than being forced to sign on without another option. As for the player, I have played several rounds with Doctor Ng as my Lab Assistant, Zahra Karimi. While our interactions weren't always lengthy or deeply revealing, Ariff's player conveyed a memorable character via an easy-to-identify, unique personality that prompted me to ask questions. The attention they've given to the application here gives me some confidence they'd be able to play a compelling and inclusive Tajara, and I'd be happy to see them get the chance.
  17. I'd be willing to give this a shot. Though, I feel like dying shouldn't magically exclude you from being able to vote, too. If you were participating up until 1:59 then get headgored, maybe you DO want a new round and that should possibly be valid. People who never spawned, though, or people barely paying attention in the lobby, should probably not have the same say. Can it even be broken out like that? Edit: If it can't be broken out like that, would we consider something like shortening the respawn timer to let people back into these longer rounds as other characters?
