1. I'd be cool with this. Make the message very OOC so that people are not tempted to use it in-character.
2. BYOND Key: Synnono Character name: Jennifer Beal Item name: Portable Wardrobe Kit Why is your character carrying said item to work? Jennifer works as a bartender, and often arrives early to work due an unfavorable commute from her home on Biesel (I usually play these rounds as a visitor to represent it). Due to the awkward amounts of time she spends off-shift while either coming from or going to work, she's started to bring a change of clothes to be comfortable prior to the beginning of her shift, or to wear while waiting for a connection home. Item function(s): The wardrobe kit itself is a normal-sized item that looks like a box (but doesn't function as one). When used in hand, it prompts the user with a choice to spawn one of three outfits. Each outfit contains a uniform slot item without sensors, and a shoe slot item to compliment it. Once an outfit is chosen, the kit spawns the items on the ground and is consumed for the shift, disappearing. Item description: A kit containing a change of casual clothes, packaged for easy transport. This one advertises some sort of cartoon featuring slimes. It is labeled "J. Beal." Item appearance: The kit is basically a recolored chameleon kit. The outfits the kit can spawn look like this: Pale Turtleneck Outfit Black Net Mesh Outfit Cartoon T-shirt Outfit How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? I like the idea of bringing some average clothes from Mendell City aboard. The station is 'local' to Tau Ceti and while we have plenty of silly costumes/military uniforms/nice dresses and suits on the station, we have less in the way of outfits you might expect to see average people wearing. I don't intend to use them during shifts where she's expected to be in her uniform, but even on those shifts it might be worth having something to change into, or to offer to someone else who finds their uniform covered in alien blood. More designs can be easily added to the kit in the future, if there's ever something that lore wants to make particular to Biesel or Mendell City that Jennifer could bring aboard. Additional comments: I understand that it's a lot of items being requested in this application. I have completed code and sprites for everything in order to minimize the impact on dev, and I checked with Lohikar to make sure anything I wrote wasn't horribly against existing conventions. I wouldn't mind if the outfits used by the kit were eventually added to the custom loadout, but I made these three specifically for Jennifer's character. They might need some modifications to look right on some other characters.
3. 80 Days is my go-to mobile game when I'm traveling. Charming stories with an interesting steampunky (steam-Victorian?) setting, high-quality script, plenty of replayability, and it's easy to pick up and put down. It's also on Steam if you somehow like to play mobile games on a PC instead.
4. Be well, SGN. See you around space, sometime, maybe!
5. But the CCIA notice on warden authority says this: This discrepancy leads to arguments within the department. People will say they don't have to report when the warden requests they do, but the wiki says they can even tell officers where to report to. I am fine whether we decide to make officers not answer to the warden, or to make them answer to them up to a certain point, but we need to define it more clearly so that new warden players don't get yelled at for doing what their job's wiki page indicates they can do. Sources: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Warden https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=CCIA_Notices There is no discrepancy that I can see here. The suggestions on that section of the Warden's wiki page are not examples of the Warden exercising his or her authority - it's just the Warden taking actions that may be considered useful to the department. If someone doesn't want to pipe up when the Warden asks them to, that's fine - they're not obligated to respond, just as the Warden is not obligated to ask. Ideally, being out of the action enables the Warden to help coordinate with his or her fellow officers, if they are open to the idea. They aren't giving orders or making demands. "Your fellow officers will appreciate your help in sending them where they can make a difference" is not referring to a Warden authoritatively directing security. If you are not giving orders or making demands of your peers as a Warden, they probably won't take issue with you. The point of the Warden Authority notice is to point out some explicit responsibilities of the Warden, which (as far as I can see) don't contradict any of the things they can help do when they are not busy fulfilling their primary job functions. Edit: Requests to modify the wiki or have a guide reviewed should be directed here to this thread rather than suggested to Development.
6. This is indeed a bandaid solution, but the space wind problem has not been resolved in the months that we've had newmap. Until it is, this would mean a big improvement in quality of life for some jobs. When the ZAS issue is resolved, they can be removed again without creating significant additional work for development. While we're at it, give a pair or two to the Xenoarchs as well, since they can't earn them from the magical mining vendor and still have to go outside.
7. I don't usually post in these threads, but this kind of attitude diminishes your original point. Command whitelisted players are expected to uphold certain standards of play, even in less-than-ideal situations. When you make a staff complaint, you are asking the staff members involved to defend their actions in enforcing those standards. Don't be surprised when they do this. Aboshehab posted a fairly long reply that analyzes your behavior. You created this discussion, and you should take the effort to respond to it instead of dismissing it (if you want to make your point), or you should accept the judgement gracefully. Standing off and saying there's no point does nothing for you, especially if you were actually wronged.
8. Concerning the complaint of Woodward leaving the brig/other unprofessional behavior, he was recently demoted temporarily as the result of an Internal Affairs investigation. This is viewable to people with Head of Staff forum access and should be considered here.
9. A general guide to this might be added to Scientist, but I think developers would not like the precise math for Telescience to be easily available. Having the exact figures on the wiki results in a higher number of people who eventually abuse it using coordinate calculators or other tools.
10. Hi Amory! Generally speaking, I think you mean well, you're friendly, you're active, and you want to encourage a culture of roleplay that I'm in general agreement with. I worry that the position might stress you out a bit, as my previous interactions with you when you thought you were in trouble for something were notably tense. You will be in the spotlight quite a bit when making decisions with players, and I think to be good at it you'll want to be sure you can temper yourself. Questions incoming: Where was this, and what were the expectations of you during your time on another team? Why did you leave? What do you see as correct enforcement of heavy roleplaying? How much should a staff member directly involve themselves with the roleplay of a player, given that experience and writing ability can vary wildy from person to person? Can you describe a time in which you felt that the staff was too relaxed with someone on this point, and what the resolution to that time was? As a player, you already have the tools to address both of your stated issues from the ground up. As a mod, you will (generally) still be expected to follow the same processes as other players when they are applicable. How do you view the position as giving you more of an ability to accomplish your goals?
11. This button is your friend: You can also find it on the frontpage of aurorastation.org. It will launch BYOND when you can't find us on the hub.
12. My interpretation of i113 is as follows, and I believe whiterabit will mostly agree. Please post your own thoughts somewhere below if you don't, so that we're clear. The regulation is intended to apply to department mascots, as well as animals being reasonably used in recognized job functions (science monkeys, kitchen/hydroponics chickens, etc.). If anything, that point can be clarified on the wiki page and should be simple enough to interpret in the future. An explicit exclusionary clause for 'pests,' or conversely, including someone's personal pets in the definition of the regulation, both feel weird and irrelevant to a workplace to me. Frankly, these should both be the result of common sense and decency, IC and OOC. If security misinterprets the regulations as they are printed, then security can discipline its own, much like they did in the case that prompted this discussion. (End CCIA interpretation, begin slightly unrelated mini-rant) Changing or clarifying a regulation here will not solve the issue of player behavior when it comes to mice. I'm not a modmin and don't usually have to interpret our rules, but most of the time this kind of thing seems to be happening because: 1. A player wanting to befriend a mouse is flaunting it in front of players who favor more realistic vermin behavior (which I feel stretches believable roleplay on the first player's part). 2. The second player goes well out of their way to push that realism on the first player, by making sure they kill the mouse in spite of them (which I feel stretches the 'don't be a dick' rule on the second player's part). A regulations change to include or exclude pests or personal pets is not going to change this behavior. It is the result of two fundamentally different perceptions of how seriously we should treat the game world, which is already very inconsistent in almost every way. Ultimately, I think a change will mostly just give one side the ability to point at regulations and claim that their side of things is 'more right' than the other. Try to live and let live, please, and don't provoke or force negative interactions on other players if you can help it.
13. After this comment, MattAtlas did not reply. Given that this application is here now and that CCIA/Mod apps are mutually exclusive, we can safely assume the player does not want to apply to CCIA. They're level headed and understand the rules that they'd be required to enforce, so I wish them good luck! Edit: This post was meant as a question for the applicant. What appeals to you about joining the moderation team over your previous interests?
14. Getting back on track here, I agree that this would be specifically useful in poisoning people. Slipping slime jelly into someone's food is a pretty quick ticket to the brig, but not if it hits a player a couple of minutes after they've walked away from the kitchen counter. I'd be all for this. Add it to the uplink, maybe.
15. I'd be for this. It's a minor change that puts some gas with other gas, and could reduce the likelihood of an under-educated player crippling the station via accidental delamination. Blackouts just aren't fun for most people.
16. Chiming in as CCIA has had to occasionally enforce this - It is effectively illegal in Biesel to work for multiple megacorporations. It doesn't really apply to the merchant unless the merchant is roleplaying being some sort of retail subsidiary of a rival megacorp. That said, characters who work for NT full time would really stretch believability to also have a mercantile business on the side, and it's the sort of thing that many real world companies prohibit their employees from doing in their contracts. Also: Right at the top of the guide: As for the original suggestion, I wouldn't mind the merchant being a toggle-able role. It stinks to miss out on roundstart taking a 1 in 5 chance, antag or no.
17. Not a loredev, but as I understand it was intentionally left vague. The derelict on this map very strongly resembles the original Aurora, but I think lore held off on claiming it was the actual wreck and chose to leave it as an easter egg.
18. I agree with this, but the merchant should be able to withdraw specific amounts from the console so they have something similar in functionality. Otherwise its "all of your money" or "none of your money."
19. It wasn't on the list in the first place, but now that the role exists, the guide does too. Please see the guide to Merchant here and give feedback: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Merchant
