1. It's difficult to mesh all departments without watering down factions to nothing. You're right about medical and to an extent engineering with those factions. Engineering is still important to the mech research faction. Also non of those factions are anti alien. I'm specifically avoiding this as, like you say, we have other areas that cover this. The "Purists" are elitist not anti alien. What sort of ideas would you have for a faction that would include engineering and medical but not break the rule of three and be relevant to station operation?
2. That's basically what I'm going for here, but this implies it didn't come across that way for you? Would you change anything re. factions listed?
3. For clarity, no one should be doing anything extreme. The above example is at the "realistic but pushing the boundaries" levels. No one should be starting mutinies or whatever. Understand that interdepartment "dickings" occur in real life and in some cases resources are essentially "stolen" from one department to be used by another. No one grabs guns and tries to overthrow senior management, they report the offender's or get an even senior manager to straighten it out.
4. Now this is just an idea I've been throwing around in discord and would like you, the people(s) input on it. The basic idea is a multiple persistent, player driven but NPC directed factions which operate on station and have tangible effects on the work environment. What I mean by NPC driven, is that the factions will obviously belong to high level management within NT and will have a general goal, but it's up to the players how they'd like to go about shooting for that goal. At the moment a rough outline of the factions are two groups of three. The two groups being able to overlap (names a WIP): Group One- Purists: Pushing for only allowing Humans, Skrell and Upper Class Tajara into Command roles. Progressives: Pushing to allow everyone into command roles, yes even those dirty synths. Traditionalists: Keep as is, everything is a-ok. Group Two- NT Minerals: Pushing to increase mining output and sell all goods to CC for profit (all yields go to CC, all research and robotics to develop mining equipment, all workers to be assigned towards the mining effort). NT Weapons Tech: Pushing to direct all resource to weapons technology research. (all yields to weapons research and manufacture, all staff assigned towards to weapons research effort). NT Mechanical Research: Pushing to direct all resource to mechanical research. (all yields to robotics and engineering to build mechs, robots and engines/contraptions, all staff assigned towards to mechanical research). Profit Driven: Pushing to increase all quick yield profits across station (all yields go to CC, all research and robotics to develop mining equipment, all workers to be assigned towards the mining/manufacturing/botanical efforts, use of EFTPOS scanners across all departments, charging for medical care). People Driven: Pushing to direct all resource to staff training and developement alongside making the station a "nicer place to work" to "boost productivity (encouraging training and making training classes, free medical care and medical care no matter the cost - even if that means compromising a crime scene to clone some one, upgrading hospitality areas and the station, directing crew resource to these ends). Research Driven: Pushing to direct all resource to research for long term gains from scientific progress(all yields go to R&D, research and robotics to do their own thing, all workers assigned towards research efforts) Group One and Two can overlap, so you could have a Purist Head of Personnel Njarir’Akhran Tajaran who is also part of the Profit Driven factions. In a shift, this character re-allocates Zhan-Khazan Tajara and other non-crucial staff to mining and cargo "just for this shift" and ensures all minerals go to central command with a light trickle of materials to their friends in R&D to produce more mining equipment whilst ignoring or fast-talking around requests from general R&D and other departments until their hand is forced by the captain to give materials to R&D where this character gives out token materials. Any complainants from the Zhan-Khazan are "reminded" of their contracts by security officers who are also part of the Profit Driven faction. All this time the HoP has to contend with a small sub faction of Progressive Profit Driven folk who are mighty pissed at the oppression of the Zhan-Khazan. This is an example of potential game play. To my mind, we might introduce events in which factions go up against one another for a boon and depending on how it goes, perhaps one faction might hit their goal. My main goal is to stimulate interdepartmental RP and IG persistent roleplay. What are your thoughts on this? If you think it's good why? If you think it's bad why? Give me your ideas and feelings.
5. A sensory deprivation chamber seems a bit much for a research station but I can get behind having psychs have more to do, bare in mind a Psychiatrist is still a medical doctor so can assist with general medical care. You don't have to banish yourself away. I don't think "electroshock therapy" is the way to go though since - thought it's perfectly safe and absolutely fine contrary to movies - it treats very specific chronic disorders which wouldn't pop up in round. Perhaps some form of spess machine that induces pleasant thoughts in patients to calm them after a trauma. Which is standard issues to spess Psychiatrists in 2460 lore wise and OOC can be used in game to deal with cloned patients or general trauma like watching your friend get gibbed by the wizard.
6. Woah hold on. I had the power to low-key troll across the station by blessing everything that contains water to make it useless this whole time? I need to log in as my priest!
7. Lets say you got the job, what would you want to change/what would you do over the next seven days?
8. Ladies and gentlemen, bois and grills. Some of us are planning on doing a spot of Planetside 2 as an Aurora group. At the moment the consensus is playing the New Conglomerate server to be be decided. I myself am a VS/TR boye so playing as the dirty smurfs hurts my soul - but I do it for you, the people. Join the discord https://discord.gg/ppAryer and we'll iron out the details. The plan is to hop on when we can and just mess around, maybe arrange some time to get tacticool on some days, probably at a weekend. All times zones welcome.
9. Only if there's a chance for it to miss with a snarky emote text.
10. We have factions currently and quite a few characters are part of them. Are you looking to have a forum set up for each one so players can arrange persistent RP across rounds? For example ATLAS characters having a common goal? If so I could get behind this.
11. - Make it so psionics require an implant to function or some tech gismo a la system shock 2. That way it can be tied to a job. - Antags could buy a hacked version which is more powerful with their Tele crystals. - You could summon a spooky version as cult for spooky mind shenanigans. - Skrell could have some intrinsic powers like reading if some one is in pain and communicating with each other mentally with clarity and perhaps with other species vaguely perhaps jumbled like a whisper or just literally "feelings" (you sense X is scared/angry/ready to get wet). Don't make this a persistent "I am a psionics person" thing as it either suddenly makes it super common and therefore bizzare or rare and "my special character" tier. Also no god damn grimdark black vanning of psionics, I can see the usual suspects who actually decry the idea of making the Aurora "grimdark" pushing for warhammer 40k levels of "suppressing muh psykers who can destroy world's" which is a key part of the setting which birthed the term "grimdark". Keep it low-key to players and go loud only for the antags. No permanence, it's either to rare for it or "low-key everyone can have it" imo.
12. Ok, lets say you got the position - What do you do next week for the Diona? What's your plan?
13. Why not just have magic? It literally already exists in the setting with the wizard, cult and vampire. Why not have low key, largely o understood powers available that manipulate the veil or whatever magic thing. Powers like influencing a characters emotions (calming them, angering them) and minor boons (removing pain temporarily, being able to enter a stasis state to survive a blast into space). Player characters shouldn't have access to any high level stuff and personally I think linking these powers to a job role would be nice. Either giving roles we already have some abilities (Librarian, Chaplain and Psychiatrist) or create a new "Empath" job or something similar. Regarding the Empath role, this could be a whitelist "Command Assistance" role in which they can "predict potential future events" i.e. get cryptic message relating to what the round might be about. "You sense a weakening of the Veil" (Cult), "For a moment you sense a dark presence in the area, then nothing." (vampire). Perhaps they could receive hints from the admins/mods? Tl dr: Why not just use the already established magic and keep the powers low key?
14. Literally depends on the area/nation/planet. Ranges from blade runner like hover vehicles to futuristic mag rails and hyperloops to a horse and cart. A rugged Martian might drive a powerful fossil fuel powered vehicle where as a middle class biesel dweller might fly in a sleek hybrid spinner. As long as it's not ridiculous it's all good.
15. For clarity, we're looking primarily for settlements outside of the Sol-System.
16. We were hoping for settlements outside of the Sol system to be honest, how do you feel about moving this into another star system?
17. Retofitting a comet into a mobile mining platform is rad but mining the comet in the first place is rubbing me up the wrong way. How would you feel about changing this into a mining flotilla? Maybe have an asteroid retrofitted into a nomadic mining platform?
18. I like that, makes targeting research an actual thing. I still stand by the overall suggestion.
19. Feel free to get creative with this folks; it doesn't have to be a planet. It could be a mining station, flotilla, nomadic space ship, space station etc.
20. I mean it's already been mentioned here but station security canonically aren't expected to be discharging their firearms or OPEN FRAG AND CLEAR-ing rooms on a daily basis if at all. Plus we already have earth protection if we need to and flash bangs aren't nearly as bad to use as folks might think.
21. Well I agree with that you dummy. Something to be looked into at another time perhaps.
22. You're literally talking about gender reassignment surgery fam. Just because they're chopping off or changing bits that humans wouldn't or don't care about in regards to our genders, that doesn't mean it's "alien". It's an absolutely human thing. It'd be unique if the Unathi didn't give a heck about their physical gender identity and didn't feel gender dysphoria in my opinion, all of which are very human and not alien in the slightest traits.
23. Coalf Yeah, as a "people accept that a male Unathi might have a female soul" not "cut those horns off, plump up those hips" proto-transgender shtick. That *is* humanising them in my opinion. But like I said it's not relevent to this anymore.
24. Coalf I didn't just mean gentials, I meant the whole hog but that's by the by since we're dropping that white hot can of neutron worms. I reiterate that instead of making a new religion, why not add various "denominations" for the current ones instead for people to use? Not just this pro-synth Th'akh one but others for both Sk'akh and Th'akh?
25. We've been over the fact numerous times that Unathi do not have dicks, they have [redacted to protect the innocent] and therefore things like practicing genital modification is pointless. The gender dimorphism of the Unathi is also very large so modifications like the above also would be pointless IMO. Personally I'd really like to steer clear of projecting human gender issues onto Unathi. Pls no Unathi traps. The religion in general, sounds rad. I personally have a Unathi main invested in this on the said of pro-synth. Making it another religion though doesn't much make sense to me. It'd make more sense for it to be a schism in the Sk'ath religion a la East Orthodox Christians and Catholics in my opinion.
