wowzewow Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 It's kind of funny when a person with such a position of power and importance to roleplay in the entire station... has no flavortext and is the default settings for the character, with empty records and empty flavor text... Like seriously, it's already whitelisted, you are expected to uphold a certain standard of roleplay.
Faris Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I don't really want to spend the time and effort to write a full record write up and flavortext for a character I may delete after a round or two. I like to test the waters beforehand. -1

Yes, we are, but everyone should be forced to have records, not just Command players. It doesn't make sense to pick out the Command players for this, but let Barny the Cargo tech run around not doing it as well. Promote RP as a whole, not in singular groups. Furthermore, some of us have record issues. I can even update it via the WI and it doesn't save sometimes. (Been this way since I've been playing a year ago). So I don't want to get an ahelp every. single. round. because a bored doctor decided to pull my records and got mad they weren't up to date/available. Honestly, records don't need to be looked at unless needed. It's strange to see security pull records for "persons of interest" every round START. We already RP that people are vetted through Odin sec, and these people are clearly approved to work on the N.S.S Aurora given they were sent to work. Same kinda goes for medical. My doctor doesn't just randomly pull my medical record when I'm not in office just to "know me better." Unless it's an emergency, or I ask for my prescription, that record doesn't need to be read.
Screemers Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I don't think the flavor text should be mandatory, but at least have a complete record could be a good idea. There is a good tool available to write them on the forum and it's not that hard to do. For the flavor text, I don't see the point, we have visual support for most of our character appearance, after that knowing the weight if the person have scars or other, it should be only optional information if the player want to share them.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Can the record say "Qualified for Captain position. Masters in business management." Or are you asking for one of those long and dense formats be filled out before i can play How much info should the FT have? "Hes tall and has brown eyes." Is that enough?
ben10083 Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 I feel that these standards cannot be reasonable met without a form of official 'standard' for records and/or flavor text
Carver Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 No, for two reasons. People often make throwaway characters when experimenting with a role they're unfamiliar with, or when they simply don't want to set aside an hour to write text/records. In the end you're discouraging people making new or experimental characters. When you start demanding specific things, what becomes the criteria? I can only imagine someone would undoubtedly complain for instance if the awful auto-fill record format isn't used. I despise that 'generator' with a passion. Similarly, people might expect specific inane things from enforced flavour text. Do you need height? Do you need vocal descriptions? Do you need smells and tit sizes? This is a slippery slope I'd rather avoid entirely.
Crozarius Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) I support this. I can't take any command staff seriously if they can't give us the common courtesy of actually having made a character. I don't want to be bossed around by Baldie McShitter who for all intents and purposes is just some greytide who somehow has command whitelist. An argument can be made for placeholder characters who you're just testing the waters with, but I don't think we should permit people to consistently play command staff with no FT or records. One, two, three rounds fine, but come on, make a character. +1 Edited November 20, 2019 by Crozarius
Nantei Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) I like the intentions, but I don't think this would pan out well. While I wish everyone would write records and make flavortext, I don't think it should be forced. The concept of having to enforce a minimal amount of records or flavor text would be very odd. What even are considered the minimums? Extremely difficult to enforce. Edited November 20, 2019 by Nantei
Flamingo Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 I don't like this. I personally never play a character without fully filling out records, flavor text, backstory, etc. This is very time consuming and I understand why someone wouldn't want to do it for a character they may delete after 2 rounds (I personally have spent several hours creating a character, only to never play them again because I didn't enjoy it). However, I feel like records actually come up so rarely, it really doesn't matter. I have had characters who I played hundreds of rounds on who never once had their records references ICly. Furthermore, flavor text is pretty much a 50/50 on server already, and I've never personally been bothered by it. It's simply another tool someone can choose to use if they wish to expand upon their character further. Voting for dismissal.
Arrow768 Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Seconding the vote for dismissal for the above mentioned reasons.
Garnascus Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 No i am sorry i will never support this. I have never understood the strange fascination for flavor text and character records. Its fine if you want to use them to add some depth to your character but making them a requirement would just be annoying.
