Caelphon Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 As the title states; The Library currently is full of useless books that no longer have any use. For example, theres some books still using inaprovoline and old-med. I think clearing it will actually encourage people to go to the Library - not only to read, but to write as well. I believe wiping the library will do more good than harm.

If say some new players join the server and take a look at some of the outdated books thinking this is how the station and game works it can give them the wrong idea. I believe instead of wiping many of the books we update them instead. I know how unlikely that will be but still if you're going to remove a lot of the books something has to replace them so not to make the library not feel so empty, but still I fully agree. If they're important, then they'll be saved. Theres still hundreds of books which are empty or downright just about three lines of pure garbage.
Carver Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Whilst the old reference guidebooks range from somewhat to completely useless, I would terribly miss a great deal of the other texts that might be lost in a purge. Even just seeing some of the character names of those who uploaded them brings back fond memories.
Faris Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Easier is not always better. Even at a slow pace, I imagine it would only take a few days to go through the 808 books in the library. Get a group of 4 people and each person gets 202 books. Checking if a book is viable won't take long since the determination if a book is worth it can be determined quickly.
Zundy Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Why not do it ICly and compile a list for "CentCom" to remove with a team of Librarians :^)
goolie Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 It would be silly to just remove it all. Even if it would be boring as hell, it would be best if every individual book was reviewed.
niennab Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) I think what'd be better is if the lore/staff team went through and combed through the database. Wiping it outright would be silly. I have a list of books that I absolutely adore and if those players are gone, so are those books. I might be able to reupload mine, but those players who are gone likely won't. It's a history of our server. As a side note, I have a small list of books that are either empty or need to be moved into their proper categories. I'd be happy to help in combing through what we have. Edited May 25, 2020 by niennab
Caelphon Posted May 25, 2020 Author Posted May 25, 2020 I see what you're all saying, and a review with Nienna's idea might be the best way forward.
Hesphos Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 A library event like the TCFL Promo but then just unlimited librarian job slots that will comb through all the literature to see what stays and what goes. Maybe an even better idea will be a Mercenary round event but instead of having to shoot guns the mercenaries are given stacks of books to read and audit.
Alberyk Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 I recommend that people foward those list and books to staff, so we can just deal with them. Ahelping during the round also works.
Hesphos Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Then again, old outdated medicine books are kind of funny in my opinion. Imagine finding an old medical book from the 1400's and being like. ''Hmhm, these are outdated practices, better burn it.''
Scheveningen Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I think charging the lore team with the effort of removing some of the offensive/low-quality books from the database would be a worthy venture. There is a ton of library bloat right now.

Alberyk Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I removed around one hundred or so books from the library today, feel free to send me more stuff that you think that should be also axed.
IAmCrystalClear Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 There’s a whole bunch of books in there that are pure gold, especially ones from characters that are now gone. combing through the books would be fine. Maybe we could add a new, almost comedic shelf consisting of “outdated guides” somewhat like an old newspaper shelf
DronzTheWolf Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 As long as we keep Rob Oster's guides to robustness.
