Hello. The uniforms for the NBT are ready. We want to know your opinion on them.

i'm sorry but the golden line isn't enough to make up for the fact that the bridge crew literally look like assistants lmfao

Otherwise, I really like a lot of these, and can't find any issue to pick out aside from the one I just mentioned.

I enjoyed the janitor before, I still enjoy the weird color stripe on it.

 

But I really like the new uniforms, and some of the security ones are exceptionally good! But they are all still wonderful.

Maybe for the NT janitor jumpsuit it could be a little more stylized compared to the Idris janitor by removing the white stripe and replacing it with something else or changing the colour of the sprite? Because at first it nearly looks identical to the Idris uniform. Same issue with the Gardener uniform too, otherwise the sprites look great!

Cant seem to find any problems with the uniforms, They look very distinguished and good. Cant wait to find out icly what they are like on my characters

I enjoy most of these uniforms, they look decent, and they will start to match some of the resprites we got last year such as the hardsuits and voidsuits, making things look less awkward. Anyone putting on a voidsuit currently looks like they put on a completely different design, but this should match it better. 
 

One question, are those investigator jackets a suit slot item or are they ingrained into the uniform? They look a little weird and I imagine they might cause weird clipping for any items worn in the suit slot, which a lot of investigators do. Lab coats and other various loadout jackets and custom items.

It is a jumpsuit, but the investigator still has access to their plain clothing in their closet.

I really like a lot of these! Some really good work here.

I do have specific feedback with a few select sprites:

  • The Investigator uniform's base shape looks a little odd with the coat thing extending down way between the legs. I think this looks a bit strange in and of itself, but also has the issue that it's large enough that you'd need an even larger suit-layer item to cover it up and look natural (though this comes with the assumption that these are purely uniform sprites without any jacket/coat/oversuit).
  • The Zavod engineering uniforms as a whole have some issues with the design on the legs being very loud, I think there's a bit too much bright, attention-grabbing red close together in stripes over a dull backing (tan) which makes them look more like stripy tights than hazard gear. The red highlights (buttons?) on the Engineer overalls/waistcoat thing also seem very bright to me compared to the tan background, I think it comes off as a little garish.
  • The Zavod Xenobio uniform also clashes quite a bit imo - the combination of bright green, bright red, and purple on brown is just a very busy palette. Could maybe fix that by just getting rid of the red collar/cravat and replacing that or another part of the sprite with tan?
  • This one's extremely nitpicky and subjective, but I think the bridge crew could do with a liiiiiiittle less gold; they seem to use gold as their go-to highlight colour, but imo this ends up with them looking higher status than the actual Heads who all have seem to much less gold on their uniforms by comparison. 
  • The CMO uniform honestly looks incredibly cool, but lacks any blue on the sprite which makes it seem a little out of place among the other Medical uniforms whose unifying colour here seems to be blue across factions. Also a bit nitpicky and subjective, I know.
  • I think this one's just a mistake, but the Idris (EDIT: it's actually both Idris and NT) bartender's side sprites are inconsistent with the back/front sprites - the sleeves are blue in the front/back sprites but white in the side sprites.

EDIT: Missed a couple things in my first pass.

  • The hydroponicist uniforms have some shading issues - all Idris hydro sprites except the front sprite have the NT colours on the overalls, and the NT version's overalls suffer a bit from lack of outline, leading to the overalls bleeding into the main uniform.

Looking at Bridge Crew, personally, I'm a little disappointed; where these don't seem sort of anime-kitschy inspired, and unfortunately not in a way that I could really really like, they're just relatively mundane and look like assistants.

Security color changes seem somewhat centric to what most people tend to go for in loadouts - dark broody bitches that nightstick you - but none of the outfits seem like something I'm not going to try and cover up with a jacket. Call me a loser but I do kind of like the stripes we have now. Not sure what's going on with the investigator jacket. Kind of wishing that the Idris colors could be "fixed".

Operations is a massive improvement I think. Contractor colors are indiscernible from one another, though. I think Orion needs some homage to its colors. Engineering also feels like a great improvement. I'm also actually pretty into Medical, their foldover tops, the sneakers. That rocks. For some reason the assistant looks better than most bridge crew.

I'm not particular certain what's going on with science. The Off-colors sort of put me aside. Are they wearing hoodies? Nice service swag though.

Major thoughts are that Bridge Crew need something that distinguishes them from assistants and that I think Security and Science should be taken back to the drawing board. Adore sciencez service, and engineering; these rocks. They look unique and distinguished. Please do not let cargo technicians actually just wear short shorts.

I agree, the coat part of the investigator uniform should be a separate thing that goes in the suit slot, with a base uniform for the jumpsuit slot

So doing a quick look-through of all the uniforms, these are the things I have to say about them:

Command:
• More could be done to distinguish the Bridge Crew from a normal assistant (more markings perhaps)
• CMO not having blue on the outfit feels extremely weird.

Security:
• Looks good across the board.

Operations:
• The leggings for the Hephaestus Mechanic could lose the top stripe to help them look more like pants and less like striped socks, similar to the pants of the old Hephaestus Cargo Tech uniform.
• Cargo Techs being forced into shorts feels weird. An option between  shorts and pants would be nice, as the upper half of their outfits is visually distinct enough from the other ones to distinguish it.

Medical:
• The colors of the medical outfits between the different factions feel very similar in appearance on first glance; perhaps something could be done to bring out the contrast and difference?
• Similarly, the purple on the ZH outfits feels slightly muted. Perhaps up its contrast?
• The orange on all the Pharmacist outfits could be brighter.

Engineering:
• Same criticism as the Hephaestus Machinist outfit: could do away with the top stripe to get rid of the stripe socked look.

Service:
• All these outfits look really nice.

Science:
• Science outfits look good too, though same thing from before with adding more contrast to the ZH purples.

Overall, they look pretty good.

One more follow up; I really think Zavod Security and Idris Security are in need of uniforms that look decent. (EPMC looks like its suffering from an absolute white but that's just me talking color theory rules). The Brown-Red is harsh on the eyes, and so is the sort of retch-color that Idris is given. (A nice understated real, please!!!) I'm a fan of the current Zavod uniforms that utilize the stripe, and the one that looks more like fatigues without incorporating a too-bright red. These colors can be made not to clash with tweaking, but probably not as the sprites stand now. I'm also actually wondering if there was any change made to Idris uniforms, besides the flasher-esque trenchcoat. (Which is going to be most trench coats not on an ISU.)

I personally kind of get the impression of ribbed pants from these, which is like those "biker/moto" pants we see in denim or leather or whatever. Its very kitschy in a way that I like. "Astronaut pants".

Operations is by far the best department when it comes to uniforms.
Security's ok-ish, but I really, really dislike the Investigators' uniform. The PMC"s uniform is by far the strangest, it's a bland grey that imho kills an awful lot of details.

I'm with what others are saying about the Bridge Crew, first thing that popped into my head when I saw it was "greytider." It needs a bit more color to it.

Heph's engi uniform is a massive improvement over the last preview.

This last one is more of a question, but I assume the IAC jumpsuit will remain unchanged?

I personally think the XO uniform should have silver epaulettes and highlights rather than gold/bronze. 

Bridge crew just looks weird honestly, I think they should have blue epaulettes/highlights and a silver uniform, or maybe a uniform more akin to commercial pilots with black pants and a white dress shirt with blue cuffs and epaulettes. As I see it the Captain, XO, and Bridge Crew look too similar and I think that they should have some changes.

Also I think the standard medical uniforms should have more white on them, at the least. Otherwise these all look really good!

I feel like I should preface with that the jumpsuits themselves, if just just put them in greyscale, are largely improvements in terms of looks as a sprite over what we currently have. I genuinely see the skill and effort put into these sprites.
However, I thing three things are largely missing that the Aurora sprites have. Color, distinguishing shape, and while its incredibly subjective and not really a good metric whatsoever, a feel like they belong in Aurora.
Because I really cant empirically define "feeling like they belong", I'm just leaving it as that. As they currently are, they're objectively better than what we have but just dont feel like they belong. Maybe that'll go away once we get used to the new update.

For their color and shape, that is definable. My issue is really that many uniforms look too close to each other without distinguishable differences at a glance. Except for Engineering and Operations, those ones fuck and it was hit right on the nail. I have a hard time telling apart bartender and chef, all of medical from eachother, CMO and Bridge Crew look the same, security officer and cadet look identical aside from one having a tie, and science is only really saved by having heavily contrasting colors all over and just looking a bit of a bad mess so you can tell them apart, but not instinctively tell who's who. I think what needs to be focused on is making things brighter and give more distinguishing outfits.
However, I want to point out, that again Engineering and Operations both fuck hard, and are exactly what you should look at for changing the rest They manage to look different at a glance by having different clothes on, with different color placements. For the love of god, do not change those two.

I'm just gonna pick medical to make suggestions to, as I think its the most... not good, and also easiest to fix.
Unless the First Responder gets back their deeply green colors with their gear, a la helmet, backpack, and vest, I feel like theres nothing that makes them stand out to say "thats a first responder."
Physician and Surgeon look too close together, unless surgeon comes with scrubs still to make it easy to tell them apart in a situation. I'd recommend just giving surgeon scrubs only and calling that good.
And, honestly, medical just needs to look less dingy. They look like their clothes are dirty or stained, or just have been worn for a long time already. I think replacing they grey with white like they are on the Aurora currently would do leagues to make them look better. Bright white.

I don't have a single negative thing on the mind at first glance over all of these. I love the sprites, it makes me wish Command was multi-corp so we could get even more variations and styles.

Gonna echo what everyone else said about bridge crew, looks a bit too much like an assistant, maybe a darker colour that distinguishes them a bit more from the rest of command? Something that leans more into the flight suit vibe

I hate to be the sole voice of dissent, but I feel like the shading style is very inconsistent. If I had to guess this is because there are different artists at work here. Security in particular has an extremely bad case of pillow shading - operations and engineering also have it bad, with command having it depending on the department. Some sprites look like they belong on CM instead of Aurora, in that regard. All in all I think that service and medical look best - science also has the same issue but it's not as bad because I think the colors make it look less obvious.

I really don't vibe with the first Zavod uniform's - brown and blue is not a good combination, either we only get tan and brown or we go back to black and red. 

the new brown uniform looks sick, and I don't mind it at all. That shade is very much a welcome addition.

I personally really dislike the stripes on the Engineering and Operations outfits, those look so awful and way too overdesigned, like striped socks as other people have said. Everything else looks great.

Also, this is my personal taste but I find that the Green on Brown colour combo of Heph outfits isn't great, its visually unappealing compared to Zavod's, and I'd hate to pick Zavod just because of the colour combo. I'm curious if anyone shares this opinion, it might just be me.
It would be objectively better if the pattern was reversed like Operations, where it's Brown on Green, instead of Green on Brown.
