  1. For the record, I will fix the synthskin issue.
  2. Hello, I'm the one continuining Poze's work. Some things I noticed during the test and have fixed: aliens being unable to select bodytype and shells having ethnicities. I'm considering removing the cold ethnicity as it looks really bad and making the default Warm w/ skintone 45. The reason that skintones are 30 to 220~ is because this system works based on a colour base to which we apply the tonality. This means that a skintone of 0 with a white base is just a chalk human. Re: synthskin, I guess I could fix it but I would have to see how they work. It might end up delaying the PR.
  3. I think this character concept is cool, but what a lot of the "untouchable" alien players do is end up roleplaying the typical "I DONT NEED NO MAN" troupe, with no regard for what their social status was, or is. Do you have any kind of little quips in mind that would show this side of your character? I think that this kind of thing is best if someone can gleam it from not a lot of interactions.
  4. It's possible, yes. You'd have to ask the people who play malf most often about how annoying it is though. Feed distorters are an ok idea. Not too sure if it can be done, but they'd help with the instant recognization, though you'd be better off putting a gas mask on and removing your ID for that tbh.
  5. Alright, let's break it down. 1. Removing cameras is a moot point based on chance. It doesn't matter if you remove the camera - the AI could be spotting you at any time before you approach the camera or the nanosecond before you cut the wire and your gig is up. If the AI spots the huge block of static after you remove the camera and sec gets there, you're in a very precarious situation. 2. I don't think we should balance antags around every single one having the space for a toolbelt, or the means to find one, especially since it's not a guarantee that you'll be able to find one. If anything, the door hacking tool is a better counterargument, despite it taking like 40 seconds. 3. It's very convenient for a traitor to conveniently have access to the captain's office, the time to break into toxins, the time to make a maxcap, a security team so dumb to not be able to stop it AND the luck for it to not be blatant ganking. If you break the floor and drop in, you have no way out of the AI core without being bottlenecked instantly by security. If you choose to go in via the upload, there are a lot of defenses there. I'm not really seeing this "no defenses" thing.
  6. Whitelisting removes one part of the problem, which is the players. The other part is how laws are very open-ended and how it's completely reasonable for someone to argue that busting antags is, in fact, allowed by the lawset. Which it is. AI is a holdover from TG. Hell, the lawset that we use is a holdover from TG. There's also the question of how powerful bolting and cameras are. I'm going to wait on someone to say how exactly cameras can be countered instead of just going "well, they can't", so that we can actually have a debate about how powerful cameras/bolting are and how to come up with alternatives. The hostility in this thread is somewhat confusing - the minority that wants the AI removed is being painted as the hostile one, despite the pro-AI half being the one that's screeching the most. Keep in mind that this is a feedback thread. Ideas can change if you don't act like an ass about it. Which means, don't act like this and maybe people might change their mind:
  7. The AI is a cancer upon gameplay. Its entire role is based upon the premise that it is benevolent enough to turn a blind eye to antagonists. It's very obvious why this is bad, because it creates an avenue for effortless validhunting. With the immense round altering power the AI has due to it being unchanged from TG days, it has no business existing here. Any attempts at a rework will fall short due to how monumental of a task it is. So, just excise the tumor now. I dont care about cyborg spawns. Inconsequential. Make sure to get rid of malf too since it will spawn an AI manually when selected.
  8. Moondancer has (thorughly) explained the reasoning to what happened in PMs and has apologised for it. I'm willing to tentatively take back my comments if there's no repetition of the previous incidents within the next days. If people want to change, they deserve a shot at it imo. EDIT: I actually have a question for you. Lots of the synthetic lore you write is very grounded in reality and the massive theorywork you put behind it is impressive, but at the same time makes reading the stuff a grind since it's a lot of technical stuff that many don't really care about unless they specifically want it. What're your thoughts on the matter? Is it necessary to completely flesh out lore like this?
  9. Adding to this, you have a lot of emotional spikes, Moon. You often lose your cool and stop listening to reason during them, two examples of which I can provide; - the Eridani rewrite discussion in the lore_channel; - the aforementioned Glorsh rewrite. I'm sure you know that how you acted in both circumstances was completely unwarranted. With these two examples I really think that this problem is a consistent one and I'm not sure it's an attitude any loredev should ever exhibit. Having a civil discussion about lore is a very important quality, one of the most important ones imo. Whether other team members do this or not is irrelevant, we shouldn't be adding more problems to the problems. Considering my experiences with you I really can't support this.
  10. @DRagOInactivity is not an accusation. You can be inactive without doing it maliciously, which you said you aren't so I believe you. However I think it's a bit ridicolous that you're applying for even more responsibility when, like you said, you don't have the time to do it. I would endorse you if you weren't this situation. However it'd be unfair to any possible applicants, present or future, if someone in this situation got the slot over someone who can actually dedicate their time. I like you as much as the next guy but I can't consciously support this app.
  11. See, the problem I have with this app is that you were never really active. You bit more than you can chew by getting all these roles. Your last contribuition as a wiki dev literally doesn't exist. You never said anything in #wiki_maintainance. And I don't see you moderating much. I also don't really know if you've ever done anything for IPC lore. How are we supposed to trust you'll be active when there's plenty of evidence that you won't be? EDIT: I also have no idea what a supermoderator is. The more I think about the meaning, the less good things come out of it.
  12. I like this, though the HI logo is wrong.
  13. The only usage is getting gas masks from fire fighter lockers and removing the potential "bad" maint spawns (emp nades, knives, insu gloves/toolbelt) from anyone else who might use them. Also finding mercs when they dock.
  14. I like blue the most but alas we gotta stick with greenmed until command's color is changed to black or gold or something. I don't think it's hard to tell the difference between dark blue and baby blue, but I can see why people would mistake it.
  15. I disagree on robots not having personality if they are what they're supposed to be - robotic workers. The contrast between humanity and robots are what defines their personality. On paper? Yes, not having some random robot quirk that I can make up in two seconds flat would count as "not having personality". In practice? Absolutely not. All of these questions are valid though. I expected them to come up naturally, and I'll answer them now. Though the answers were hinted at in the backstory, I suppose they aren't clear enough. 1. At the end of the day, Walter is still a crate pusher. It recognizes that it is there to push crates. Is it a shitty existence? Yes, it'll agree on that. However, I consider this to be a good baseline from which an IPC's position on freedom or life can evolve. That's what matters to me. 2. Walter recognizes that humanity has no empathy for it. It does not like that. Who would? It doesn't quite know about how other species are treated either. It doesn't really feel a need to go towards activism though. Since, for it right now, its job is still pushing crates. That's what it is convinced it has to do. To it, pushing crates is what makes it worth something. Other people might "open his eyes" on it. That's fine. This is why this character is a blank slate of sorts.
  16. The best way I can describe how I want to play is Andrew in the beginning of Bicentennial Man. Yes, I intend to play a machine. I don't want Walter to grow to feel emotions or whatever, but I do want Walter to evolve in some fashion. I am steadfast in this being what I want to play.
  17. There are exactly two weapons that antags spawn with or can get that do significantly more damage: the esword and revolver.
  18. Alright. Unbanned.
  19. As I see it, there are a few issues: 1) Killing someone with armour is way too hard due to how armour works. I have a solution for this: armour should be based on percentage and be always reliable in reducing damage by a % calculated from the armor values. Instead what we have right now is a system where you can roll a fullblock and take no damage from a 5.56 shot in the dick if you have an armored trenchcoat. 2) Killing hostages or civilians takes too much time. As nantei said, you'll need six .38 bullets to actually kill someone you're holding in a neck grab if you shoot them in the brain case. Maybe four with pointblank bonuses. Still, that's way too much time and sec can just ooga booga rush you. This goes for 7.62, 5.62, and other calibers that aren't very heavy. 3) Burst shooting sucks absolute dick since it grounds you. Because of this, we get fights where there are only singular shots being thrown around. This diminishes lethality because people shoot you less. ARs are basically only single shot weapons right now. 4) Not enough lethality on the medical side. Someone without a helmet got shot in the head with 7.62? Bicaridine and outta the meat grinder you go. Not sure I need to highlight how this is an issue.
  20. I have no idea what's happening with the spoiler. The last few questions are supposed to be outside of it but for some reason they're inside of it, even with the closing tag behind them. I'm just gonna leave it like this since I tried fixing it and it didn't work.
  21. BYOND Key: - MattAtlas Character Names: - Kortnev Ndraanovich, Emily Cress, Luo Jingyi, Kyong Su-Yeongseon Species you are applying to play: - IPC, G1 Industrial What color do you plan on making your first alien character: - N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: - Yeah. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: - IPCs are probably one of the species with the most variants in personalities. That alone, and how different they are in behaviour from any other species is what motivates me to apply. I understand that they're logical machines that don't act based on emotions, and that provided a frankly infinite amount of RP material. I hate to see it misused by shells who act like human 2.0, because it's the exact opposite of what I think IPCs should be. This is why I'm applying to play as a first gen industrial. I've also always been fascinated with these kinds of robots - one of my favourites of all time has to be Ash, from Alien. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: - I mostly described this above. The amount of variance in personality, the huge difference in the way machines and humans think. While humans think in a very emotional manner, IPCs don't really think like that. They're machines and logic is how they function. Sure, IPCs can simulate emotions, but that's not the same thing as having them. This is where the contrast is shown, really, and the character concept I have is supposed to work entirely off of it. Character Name: - Walter Please provide a short backstory for this character - Originally built as one of the first batches of the first-generation Industrial IPCs on Amòni in 2438, where it was little more than a machine with a serial number and a purpose, this IPC was assigned to the same superfactory as a requisitions worker. Its job was pulling boxes and heavy frames around, something that at that point, was recognized as its reason to exist. This continued for many years up until the release of the second generation Industrial models. Slowly, the robotic workforce around the supercomplex was replaced or upgraded. To it, this meant little more than the fact that it'd be upgraded later on to do its job better. But fate did not want it to happen. Or rather, an unfortunate event happened. The requisitions bays had elevators that led into the storage deep inside the factory. In its first few minutes of post-recharge reactivation, the IPC followed its usual route to call the elevator up, but slipped on a patch of uncleaned oil left by the maintenance crews and fell down the elevator. Another technician called the elevator up to find a disheveled and deactivated IPC laying down on the elevator, immobile and intertwined into itself. Unfortunately, with the repair costs, it was easier to get rid of this machine and replace it with a new batch of second generations. The IPC was dumped alongside a few other broken miscellaneous IPCs in the Metal Dunes. While at this point some measures had been taken to get rid of the endless scrapping, it certainly is hard to notice six or seven more IPCs laying upon a pile of many more, especially if a few credits are involved. In 2460, this machine was finally reactivated. But it was not in the factory.
  22. Sure man. I understand these things happen. I'm gonna need you to change your character's name to something else, and delete or change the records. Reply to me saying you understand and I'll unban you.
  23. This time with real experience. Ckey/BYOND Username: MattAtlas Discord Name: mattatlas#6970 Position Being Applied For: Coder Past Experiences/Knowledge: I was a coder on CM for 3 months and some days, before retiring. I mainly took on major balancing issues (removing mutators, a complete xenomorph rebalance, marine weapon rebalance, many marine kits to name a few) with my most major addition being a modular strains system for each caste. I'd like to say I completely reshaped the game balance and direction during my stay. Examples of Past Work: Most relevant: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/6940 https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/6969 https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/6591 Currently working on new human sprites (which is mostly poze's code) and job age minimums. Additional Comments:
  24. That is what I tried.
