[Denied] ben10083's IPC Whitelist App
MattAtlas replied to ben10083's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
With what I've seen of your roleplaying as a cyborg, I'm afraid I'll have to -1 your application for now. Your roleplay is not exactly great, and there's much room for improvement. Before you play a whitelisted species, you should be able to play human characters that are memorable - characters that are not exact copies of eachother. As of right now, your RP is not very good exactly for that reason - you don't really pay too much attention to roleplaying at all. Maybe you'll have a better chance in the future when you're a better roleplayer. But I do not think you're ready for a whitelist yet. -
[Accepted] Calion app - IPC
MattAtlas replied to calion12's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Calion's characters are all characters I enjoy playing with. I have no doubts he would be able to play an IPC well. OOCly, he's a pretty good guy, and I have nothing to say about him. It's a definite +1 from me, good luck with the application. -
I have to agree with Fire and Glory, your past OOC attitude is your biggest obstacle here. Your application is great and the character you put forward is obviously well built, and I really like your answers. Other than that, I'm sure you can play an IAA effectively, with what I've seen of your characters. Overall, it's a +1 from me if you're already working on your OOC attitude. Good luck with the whitelist.

[Accepted] MattAtlas' Unathi Application
MattAtlas posted a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
BYOND Key: MattAtlas Character Names: Lelyl Kerei'Velan, Erana'Weshi Xoqia, Araa Plenek, Kleno Dreshi-Qeblak are my most played. Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Black Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: There are a few reasons why I want to play a Unathi character. The biggest reason is their lore - I like the lore as a whole. Their values, the code of honor, the clan system and even their religions are all very appealing to me. Aside from the lore, playing a Unathi character would be a very welcome change of pace from the characters I've been playing for the past 5 months or so. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: There are quite a few differences, and most of them rely on interaction. Body language is of course different - for example, Unathi will thump their tail or chuff when irritated, they will expose their throat to individuals they trust a lot, or they will twine necks or tails as intimate gestures. Aside from that, there's the way that Unathi refer to eachother, mainly by their last name instead of their first name, unless the other individual is someone they're comfortable with them using their first name. There's also their code of honor that changes the way a Unathi would act in various ways - be it in combat, or normally. Character Name:Sazassh Karaehssi Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs What do you like about this character? I like his resolve. His pride, and the way the Contact War changed him. I like his warrior ideals, and how he holds the code of honor as one of his highest values. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd say 8 or 8.5/10 by now, with the months I've been playing the game my roleplaying ability has considerably gone up. Notes: None to be said. -

[Denied] Coalf's Head Lore Manager Application
MattAtlas replied to Coalf's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I've thought about this for quite a while and realized one thing that seriously needs to be done and that's numbers. The fact is only the lore team has not changed since the year 2014, the 2014 where this server got on average about 20 people. This numbers has DOUBLED and the amount of lore we now have has basically tripled. The wiki has for a long time been un-manned, forum is scattered with out-dated or outright false information and lore writers aren't always available to answer questions. Thus I'd hope to create a sort of "Additional Loredev" rank to be implemented, these people will help with whitelists, updating wiki pages specifically aimed at their expertise and helping with debating and creating lore. Everyone on the team most likely has someone a "Plan B", someone they trust and know understands the lore and discuss it with them in private in order to get good, honest opinions. I hope to get these people into the proper places so they can help without stealing the spotlight from the maintainers. Times change and we have to with them. I actually really like this proposition. I do think we need more than one loredev due to a plethora of things, but they're not to be mentioned here. Now, do I support Coalf's application here? The short version is, yes, I do. I trust his writing abilities and his knowledge of lore, and I trust him to handle the position well. Do I have anything else to say? No, everything else was already addressed, and I only wanted to get my (albeit short) feedback in. However, I do have one question - we currently have a lot of stagnating things, be it lore development or the newscasters. What are your plans to cover loredev inactivity, or stagnating issues such as the newscasters or some of the wiki pages? -
Just as the title says. Currently it seems like not many people ready up at roundstart in the lowpop part of the day, at all. And not many times do we get 15 players ready, so we just end up having the same gamemodes in lowpop with not much variety. Lowering the Heist playercount down from 15 would solve this a little, giving some variety. It would also encourage the raiders to have a gimmick that isn't just murdering everyone. Furthermore, there is no reason I can see to have Heist need the same players ready as Mercenary, when raiders have worse gear than mercenaries. The other problem would be, "But four raiders against eight crewmembers seems a little unfair". For that, we can also lower the minimum raider count to 3 raiders for 12 players ready. The only other issue I can see is that it would cause more chaos in the lowpop rounds. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

[Resolved] MattAtlas warning complaint
MattAtlas replied to PowerThrills's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Prate has said everything there is to say. I don't have anything else to add. Although yes, it was a mistake, we get that, but even if it was it does not mean we should give people free passes for them. A verbal warning was issued because it was a mistake, yes, and what was said was that you should pay more attention in the future to critical details like that. I understand combat can be exhausting/confusing, but these are round defining things, and mistakes happen so that the same mistake is not repeated. -
[Accepted] NoahKirchner's Skrell Application
MattAtlas replied to NoahKirchner's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm really glad you asked this because it's something I wanted to go on about but felt like I'd be overdoing it in the background section. Wer'losh is very much a family man and, to some degree a patriot. Not, per-say, nationalistic, but still with the same belief that Skrell society has surpassed the development of other species and he, as such, believes that most other species (Though not necessarily cultures) should gravitate away from the mistakes that Skrell society has made in the past and more towards what has made them successful. A tad patronising, if you will, to ideas involving artificial intelligence is what I'm trying to get at here, though a bit more broad. As far as aggressiveness goes, seeing as how he is soon to have a family to look after, I plan on playing him to be very protective of both his job security and of his life in general, wanting to provide for his soon-to-be family. This doesn't mean I'm going to have him suit up and go fight antags at every available opportunity, but he's inclined to agree with nanotrasen and to attempt to stay alive. Those are good answers. I like the way you RP, your application and answers to my questions. I also like your character concept, which is important. So, I see no reason to not +1 this app. Good luck. -
[Accepted] NoahKirchner's Skrell Application
MattAtlas replied to NoahKirchner's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Let's take a look at your application. I don't actually have much to say. It's a pretty good application, and touches on all the points I like to hear from applications. But, I have a few questions about your character specifically. What kind of personality does Wer'losh have? What are his attitudes towards other species? And is there anything else you would like to say about this characters' personality? -

MattAtlas replied to sdtwbaj's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I don't mind having another Skrell on station. Let's go through your application first. Can you expand on these differences, and the 'little sibling' concept? What makes Skrell stand out for you? Onto the character, I actually like your concept. I haven't seen this before, so it's nice that something new crops up. This doesn't tell us much about what kind of character Wren'Ishii is. What's her attitude like? Her goals? And so on. I'd like to hear more from you about what kind of character you want Wren'Ishii to be. -
[Resolved] Staff Complaint - MattAtlas

I think I know what happened here. I'm rather sure it was a miscommunication on both our ends. I'll try to reiterate my logic. The point I was trying to make is how the Captain didn't need to know it was specifically religious texts, my point was that it isn't unreasonable to assume that the book you found earlier in the library could have been the bible you requested, or the religious texts. The second point is that the Captain knows that your religion was involved in what you did to her in the misc testing room - so why would she let you have anything related to your religion? The main reason for the Captain to deny your book is how you've mentioned it is religious, and you've connected the religion to the ritual you've done to the Captain. I'm not saying that you should've refered to it as specifically a book, I was unclear here and I apologize - it is my fault, I meant that you should've lied about the book in a way to make it seem like it wasn't connected to the religion. -

Where are the wordplay and semantics? My entire point during the admin PMs was that the Captain denied you your religious texts because you have mentioned that the religious texts gave you your knowledge on the religion which you have admitted to having used to torture her. That's it, that is my entire point that I tried to convey in admin PMs. What I told you is that you could have refered to it as a recreative book and lied to the Captain to get it, but maybe I was unclear on that part, and I apologize if I misled you. You asked the Captain for your religious texts when you were in the cell, so your religious texts had to be in the locker inside the cell. As to why she said she wants to burn them (which she didn't actually do), refer to my previous points. You admitted to doing religious rituals to the Captain. Which would be connected to this religion, which is enough reasoning to not give you the book while you are spending 10 minutes in a cell as a punishment for assaulting the Captain. She didn't search your belongings because it wasn't her who arrested you. It would've been up to the borgs and the other present security staff. When she said "purify the book by fire", she didn't actually do it. Humans can say rash shit sometimes, it happens. -

I'm going to put the screenshots of the relevant adminhelps to my following points here. https://imgur.com/a/mY9fr Notice how you said "book" various times here? It's not a tomb. You've specifically said book in these admin PMs, and the captain's reply confirms it. This mention is going to be very important later on. At the start of the round, you tried converting the Captain, which is a very painful experience for the Captain. This is all fine up to this point, the Captain was later escorted out of science and everything was good. After that, let's skip up to the part where you adminhelped. By this point, the Captain knew a few things: 1) You found an ancient tome in an ancient library that revealed you the secrets of the universe. Refer to the imgur album. 2) These secrets of the universe were mentioned before the ritual where you tortured the Captain. Refer to the imgur album. 3) You've openly said that what you've done relates to religion. At this point it is not unreasonable to assume that these secrets of the universe are what granted you the ability to do these rituals and that religious shit is going on - which is why the priest was called. You've also mentioned that what you are doing is related to religion various times to the Captain, and she heard you. About the tome - you've said it revealed you the secrets of the universe, and thus it is tied to the religious shit that is going on. When you asked the Captain for your religious texts (which, for the sake of clarity, let's say it is the tome you refered to earlier on), why would she give them to you? You've basically tortured her, why would she give you your tome? A bible isn't far from a tome. It is a reasonable assumption to make that the bible is, in fact, the tome. The Captain can nullify this right. They're the ultimate authority on the installment, it is not written in stone that you must have your religious trinkets. -
[Accepted]Worthy's Tajara Application
MattAtlas replied to Worthy's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
So, you've posted an alien whitelist application, and it's time to deliver feedback. Your characters, from all my experiences with them, are really good. I know all of them, and not one of them is the same. They all have backstories, they all have different personalities, and they're all a pleasure to interact with. Rating your roleplay at 6.5/10 is an understatement to be honest. Onto the application itself. I like your answer on how Tajara are different. Mainly - the part about the racial history. I feel like that could be expanded upon, but Sharp already touched on it. The story itself. I actually like it. It's short, but it gets across who the character is very smoothly. It's easy to read, not a block of text, and covers what I wanted to see. I'm all for supporting this application - so, a very big +1 from me. Good luck. -
[Accepted] IP Unban Request (if possible)
MattAtlas replied to Casm's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Alright, you've given solid enough reasoning. I'll be lifting the ban on your sister's account, which will include lifting the IP ban- as usual, this comes with the fact that your sister has to read the rules and that further rule violations will be punished accordingly. Locking and archiving. -
Right, I'll be taking this unban request. You were banned on 2014, which is a really long time ago. I'll be lifting the ban. Your reasoning also seems solid, considering how much time has passed. I reccomend reading over our rules again, as more of this behaviour will be punished accordingly. Locking and archiving.
-
Alright, I've let this sit some time now, and I'm afraid I'll have to deny this unban appeal. The main reason is - as Garn has stated- you have a total of thirty eight notes, you have a total of FIFTEEN warnings, you have a total of FIVE bans, one of which is a permaban that you have recently appealed. This shows that you don't change, no matter how many times you have been warned, banned or noted, you haven't changed. We were extremely lenient with you, and this time I'm afraid it's time to move on. We've given you a lot of chances, and you were explicitly told any next offense would be a permaban, and so it was. And as Garn has said, you cannot expect leniency because you "panicked". You had several chances to get out of the conflict, you even had a chance to not be involved in the conflict. But the main reason I am not lifting this ban is because you have too many warnings, notes and bans.
-
In total since you came here early this year you've racked up THIRTY EIGHT notes. warnings and bans of varying length. you have FIFTEEN total warnings, notes, bans and even a lifted PERMABAN in the last month alone. You cannot seriously expect leniency with the "i panicked excuse". In my opinion the ban should stay. go and stay go I concur. I also agree with this.

[2 Dismissal: Archived]Remove powernet failure event

Ah, I'm remembering the wrong incident, my bad. The tesla was released twice this week, apparently. -
[2 Dismissal: Archived]Remove powernet failure event
MattAtlas replied to ajstorey456's topic in Archive
Happened earlier this week, I believe, @Pratepresidenten as a witness. I, the poor borg at the time, set it up for the first time and was instantly cucked by powernet failure. And I don't understand why I have to say this three times, they don't restart. Every single time I see the event happen when I'm not a borg/engi/ai, I keep checking the time on the APCs, because it gives you a timer, and they reset themselves. Because I've seen the APCs restart by themselves with enough time. I've never had to manually reset every APC in a powernet failure. And I was there, I'm pretty sure that there wasn't a powernet failure at the time, the tesla was just broken. -
[2 Dismissal: Archived]Remove powernet failure event
MattAtlas replied to ajstorey456's topic in Archive
The tesla doesn't even shut off when the powernet failure event happens. It was a bug, it was fixed in this PR: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/3902 As for the rest, I don't agree with removing the powernet failure event. It makes for some good atmosphere and allows antags to be stealthy about their kills, or abuse the atmosphere for their gimmicks. It's really not that big of an issue. And they do automatically reboot - it takes 430 seconds or so.
