Give feedback for the Biesel Culture Project! How has this impacted you? Do you hate it? Do you like it?
-
Thank you for your feedback on the Biesel Culture Project. The Lore Development Team will begin addressing the issues regarding "Top of the World" as soon as possible. This was done as it includes politics, which will be expanded ON the page, in the near future. It is considered a retroactive change, so they have "always" been these names but likely shortened and whatnot in the papers. For now, we're likely to keep the distinct themes given to the cities, such as the "southern vibe" from Ashton, or the Elyran Hub of New Marfa. This will be addressed.

[Feedback] Moving the Bridge to the Construction Level
Caelphon replied to furrycactus's topic in Discontinued Projects
I'd change the "deadspace" into a maintenace room (or rooms) of sorts. It'd be a fairly quiet area, and could result in interesting antagonist gimmicks uitizling it (cough ahem, saw gimmick). -

After our chat last night, I decided to sit down and actually THINK. Holiday #1 Name: Festival of the Falling Stars What day and month is it?: Versakh. Sept 23rd - Sura 2nd. Occurs every 51 - 52 years. What is it about?: It is a festival celebrated roughly every 51 - 52 years, and is meant to convey the changing of hands of from one generation to the next. Due to the typical lifespan on an Unathi spanning roughly sixty years (give or take some change, especially with the advanced medicine). It is often viewed within both Sk'akh and Th'akh as being symbolic of the fact that Clan-Leaders must eventually conceed their power to the next generation, and not to go against the natural order established by the respective higher powers. What religious / secular rite does it celebrate, commemorate or mourn etc?: Sk'akh and Th'akh commemorate the event as a symbol of the natural order ordained by higher powers; essentially those in positions of power must conceed their power and allow those after them to lead the respective Clans (or whatever they lead) to honor. How do we celebrate?: The festival lasts four days, and four nights. Unathi are expected to fast during this period, and consume only water. Each night, clans are expected to gather and commence an evening fill of worship and prayers, mostly revolving around requests of guidance to their Clan-Leaders (such as to lead them honorably, hold steafast in their will against dishonorable temptations). After roughly four days of fasting and three nights of prayers, they will have a big celebration where they break their fast and praise their higher powers for a sucessful "Festival of the Falling Stars". The celebration is typically one where many indulge in too much drinking and eating, often leading to the day afterwards to be one of relaxation.

[Accepted] Caelphon's Vaurca Application
Caelphon replied to Caelphon's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Vaurcae Culture ( and their society as a whole ) is honestly something that can't even be compared to humans, I mean the silly bugs didn't know not wearing underwear is like, totally against the rules. On a real note though, I'll go through the headings below; Vaurcae place importance on completely different things from other species across the Orion Spur (maybe not NKA, I mean they do shill for their Queen...). Vaurcae place emphasis on an ethical conduct among themselves and other hives, something not found within humanity (to a degree, I mean we do have the honor-bound Dominians) which has developed into a rather non-aggressive society that bleeds into their interactions between hives as well as others. Unlike humans, Vaurcae will very rarely go out of their way to create conflict or seek it. On another note, Vaurcae are quite literally bred to be loyal to their brood, and ultimately their hive. Vaurcae also retain entertainment different, and instead derive pleasure from completing acts of devotion to their brood and ultimately their greater hive. An example of which ultimately depends on their brood, and again greater hive. If we're looking at Arv, they'd derive said pleasure / entertainment through speaking to other alien species, and then gathering and codifying their information, then storing it in their journals (scientific ones! but for history). Vaurcae are not too big on clothes, I mean, they had no jiggly bits they ever had to hide. This has resulted in an absence of a fashion industry for the species, really only utilizing a handful of things - such as a veil to cover their eyes bright lights. Humans have sooooo many different items of clothing, its hard to keep track -- especially if they have cultural importance. Vaurcae are lucky in that regard, clothing is just clothing. No, Arv does not resent their peers over their opportunity to further their skills. They do, however, envy them for their ability to do so. Arv has the belief that those that attend these institutions to further their passions are often given more respect over those that have not, which they crave in their field of study; history. If given the opportunity to attend these institutions, Arv would jump at it. Arv was temporarily assigned to the Traverse towards the end of May 2463. Their supervising overseer (a Curator) was urgently requested to examine Glorsh-Era ruins discovered on a celestial object within the colony's star system. It was only two weeks at most before the flurry of resistance activity ushered them towards the Republic of Biesel -- more so pushed on them in an effort to stay alive, especially in the face of the Kala deployment. The reconnection to those on Biesel would have been one much appreciated, especially with the turbulent journey that was undertaken across the interstellar lanes. I wouldn't necessarily say that Arv had bad experiences with the Federation. If anything, Arv views the deployment of the Kala as a necessity for the preservation of skrellian society, especially with their knowledge on both species' history. They view those loyal to the Jargon Federation favourable, but tend to have sour perspectives on those that had forced Arv to flee with them to the Republic of Biesel, despite their positive outlook on the opportunity presented to them (studying more history). Arv would've been born after the events of the Warbling ( it ended in 2019) , and likely would be used to the circumstances that they were introduced into after being introduced to the Orion Spur. The impact of the Warbling, however, is the reason why Arv believes they will not garner respect among their peers -- resulting in their "passion" to uncover and codify more information as they grow older and eventually achieve Xakat'kl'atan. Clarified above, but for the VR; The inability to interact with their brood through Virtual Reality left a deep impact on Arv, and has resulted in their increased usage of such during their free time. It has almost come to the point where every moment spent outside of their work (gathering, analyzing and codifying the history they learn from dem aliens) is spent among the virtual reality avaliable on Biesel. They very rarely seek to leave, unless absolutely required or for work. Arv found themselves isolated (from vaurcae) for long stretches of time aboard the refugee craft, which has resulted in their general "happiness" to see another member of their species -- often going out of their way to interact with them in the event they are once again forced to endure the long periods of isolation inflicted on them during the unwanted exodus. -
BYOND KEY: Caelphon Character Names: Tiiquu Xii-Quualt (Captain, Skrell) Haziqa Zafar-Ramiza (Idris Chef, Tajara) Sorocan Ghoa (Medical Intern, Human) Species you are applying to play: Vaurcae What colour do you plan on making your first alien character: (RGB 150, 180, 255) or Mouv, The Recondite Queen (Unbound) Have you read our lore section's page on this species: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: My primary reason for applying for the Vaurcae is due to my position as Deputy Loremaster. I do not believe I can reasonably interact with the Vaurcae Lore Development Team without a greater understanding of their species, as well as playing through the eyes of the species. They are a fantastic team, and their latest additions have left my craving (#licaimoment) the whitelist. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurcae are ... extremely different from humanity, for a variety of reasons. They have only recently been introduced to the Orion Spur (approximately arriving a little of six years ago now) and are considered the most oppressed, at least in my opinion. Their introduction to the Orion Spur was a result of their mass exodus of their Homeworld, in a few dozen or so massive ships that are capable of hosting millions of the Vaurcae (and their different castes) with many of the species having never stepped foot on said planet. Vaurcae also see the world in a different light, mostly due to a combination of their religion and culture, which typically revolves around their hives, and more importantly their Queens. Perspectives can even further change depending on their hive, brood and caste. Mechanically, Vaurcae have a variety of castes each with their own strengths and weaknesses. They also heavily rely on phoron in order to breathe, very differently to other species aboard the NSS Aurora (aka they dont breathe fucking FUEL FOR THE ENGINE). They are also one of the more "buffed" species relating to their ability to enjoy the vastness of the void without being fucking crushed like a dominian dweeb. CHARACTER INFORMATION Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Arv C'thur Character Background: Hailing from the C'thur Hive, specifically of Mouv'lek'tanta, Arv has maintained a delicate balance of existence within the Orion Spur for roughly a year. Despite months of swimming through the virtual ocean that exists within the lesser queen's virtual reality, Arv has lived a life typical of that of their brood; a scientist, researcher and even analyst. For long, they operated beneath the supervision of several skrellian scientists as they ventured further into the history behind the High Queen's supposed saviours. The result of their keen passion in history flourished, and eventually netted Arv a position as a distinguished historian (cough tour guide) with Qerr'Malic's capital (Zuvl'qlip). Unlike those in their brood, Arv subscribes to the belief of Modern Pantheonism. This has created slight conflict among their brood when mentioned. Despite this, Arv continues to maintain their belief and even goes so far as to advocate it when approached by others who instead believe the older iteration of Classical Pantheonism. Arv has only very recently arrived within the Republic of Biesel, mostly specifically with the influx of thousands of refugees from the Traverse. Their initial departure from the Jargon Federation was not voluntary, but instead was forced upon them during the deployment of the Kala as well as several other factors (such as the chaos that erupted within the colony that they had been stationed at). They long to return to their brood within the Jargon Federation, however, they have recognized the opportunity to expand their understanding of the history of other species within the Orion Spur. They have decided perhaps remaining for a while won't be as bad as they initially believed... What do you like about this character: I enjoy the concept of Arv, and will be playing them as a Librarian (alt title). I genuinely think I can make an interesting gimmick with Arv, especially through utilizing their interest in history, perhaps even documenting the history of their colleagues instead of their species. How would you rate your role-playing ability: I do not particularly like rating myself, but I can say that I will attempt to accurately portray this species to the best of my abilities.

Right, gonna try address your points as best as I can. I think we're going to see a lot more benefits from having the megacorporations on "equal grounding" when comapred to NanoTrasen simply being the the employee monopoly. I think it introduces a good sample of conflict, as well as potential cooperation, in the future. Right now, the megacorporation you play doesn't really ... add or subtract anything from roleplay, maybe a few things here or there but largely it doesn't affect it. The departmental division for NBT is meant to solve this, and solidify their themes. We are hoping to do much more with the megacorporations in NBT that we could ever do with the station NSS Aurora. We are attempting to craft an entirely new setting that is not meant to be similar to the current atmosphere and whatnot. This ultimately means a small percentage of players will lose their characters, it is inevitable. We are trying our best to minimise this percentage, but at the end of the day we have our limits. We can only ease the transition so much, the rest is up to players. Also, no one is forcing your character to "be okay" with the thing these megacorporations do. The thing is, they exist because they're megacorporations and have such a large amount of influence and sway within interstellar politics that ... they don't really care what people think unless it directly challenges them. We're changing NT from being the current monopoly, leaving the megacorporations on the same playing ground. You'll have equal if not more player agency in creating your characters with the change to the NBT setting.

No you're right! It's easier now than ever before to change megacorps, and it'll only be easier. This doesn't mean faction hopping, more so a one time change that doesn't really need a solid justification that, "SCC made it heaps easier, didn't even need to break my contract."

skrell [DENIED] Mad man attempts to get whitelisted
Caelphon replied to NeepBeep's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hi there. The Skrell Maintainer slot is unfilled, so I am acting as Deputy Loremaster in this capacity. While I admire your ability to weave a story, when looking at a whitelist application a maintainer needs to know that you've gone through the lore of the species. Just a quick glance shows that you've likely skimmed or havn't read it at all. I'd advise you go and read the following pages; https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell_Relationships https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell_Culture https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Notable_Skrell_Systems_and_Locations https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Skrell_Faith https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Refugees Your newness to the server also leaves much to be desired in regards to your character. Nobody knows you sorta thing, so maybe stick around for a few weeks and interact with folks (ic and ooc) and we'll take it from there? This application is denied, you are free to reapply in two weeks. -
Explosion kills dozen; Embassy levelled BREAKING - Mendell City officials report that the Jargon Federation Embassy has been bombed by foreign elements. A terrorist attack destroyed the Jargon Federation Embassy located within District One of Mendell City, resulting in the death of about a dozen, including many Jargon diplomatic representatives. It is believed an early warning from NanoTrasen managed to save the lives of many within the Embassy and its surrounding city bloc. An asteroid station in Aurora was also targeted in a related terrorist attack, which resulted in the theft of experimental materials; experts are now concluding those stolen materials share similar explosive properties with those used in the Jargon Embassy attack. “It’s undeniable that this is the work of the rogue faction that held the Aurora hostage,” said Lieutenant Deputy Bernard Summers, “Our scientific investigation team has matched the same classified energy signatures from the theft to this bombing.” Deputy Summers spoke to the press shortly after the bombing and promised “justice” against those who had conducted this heinous crime. “Our hearts go out to the Tau Ceti citizens who were unfortunately caught in the crossfire of this foreign attack, as well as the representatives who we failed to protect.” Tau Ceti Defense Agencies are investigating potential links between the Aurora hijackers and an influx of Skrell refugees. When questioned by the press, Deputy Summers had this to say, “There is not a doubt in my mind that the terrorists got through our relaxed borders with the refugees. In my opinion, the TCFL has no idea who is coming or going right now.” The Jargon Federation has expressed its deepest regrets to the diplomats and Tau Ceti citizens but declined further comment regarding terrorist cells within skrellian refugee ships.

Tau Ceti Integrates Asylum Seekers Tau Ceti officials have reported that Skrell asylum seekers can be granted full citizenship upon enlistment in the Tau Ceti Foreign Legion. This announcement comes days after an unprecedented influx of Skrellian refugees following turbulent electoral results in the Jargon Federation, and officials are worried about what this means for the future of military politics. “With such a strong number of Skrell now counted among the [Tau Ceti] Foreign Legion, one wonders what this means for Skrell-specific warfare,” said Prefect Mark Ynonnes, “Their psionics are a rather big one.” In addition, Biesel authorities have reportedly been assigned planet-specific “refugee quotas”, which has resulted in at least one Skrellian family separation. Sentient-rights associations have expressed concern that the future of Skrell in Tau Ceti could closely resemble a militarized satellite population. “It wouldn’t be unheard of for a marginalized group to be taken advantage of,” said Ynonnes, “Especially with the instability we’ve been seeing across multiple facets of the galactic stage.” However, some economists are saying that the migrant crisis could bring new industries. Tau Ceti scientific institutes could greatly benefit from more educated Skrell, and some experts are interested in what a new Skrell population could do for their new human hosts. Reports from various Megacorporations, including Nanotrasen and satellites of Zeng-Hu, have noted increased employment offers within pockets of these Jargon refugees. What this means for the future of Megacorps in Tau Ceti is still up for debate, but more of these Skrell in positions of labour and leadership seems to be on the horizon.

Jargon Ambassadors request mass deportations! Several issues have arisen within interstellar relations and internal management as a result of the arrival of a few thousand individuals seeking asylum within the Republic of Biesel. In addition, the Biesel Immigration and Customs Enforcement is anticipating the arrival of many more in the coming days. As part of its diplomatic discussions with the Republic of Biesel, the Jargon Federation is pushing for mass deportations of these recent arrivals, citing the fact that the primary reason for their arrival [the turbulent political environment] is in fact fanciful, especially after the Primary Election. There has been no additional information provided by the Dorn Administration on this subject. “The fact that they are allowing all these people here is just incredible like they are going to have no jobs left for those that live here," said Wei Lu, a citizen of the Republic of Biesel who resides in Mendell City. “We’ve barely recovered from the Solarian Invasion, and they expect us to somehow cater for all those people?” The majority of asylum seekers have been detained in detention centres until Congress has concluded the idea of providing sweeping authorizations for recently arrived asylum-seekers. As reported by Law Reporters, President Dorn will address the Republic of Biesel this weekend with their decision close at hand. Our team will keep you informed of any developments within the Orion Spur, as well as any other interstellar news. Despite the perilous times we live in, readers, stay safe.

I really don't see how "Nurse" is going to essentially re-add the catastrophe that was 300 alt titles for those in medical. This could be a role on its own, and would be far more useful I think.
