  1. As the title states, what unspeakable horror from beyond the veil, of which mankind was never supposed to know, are you? Because I'mTsathoggua, of a thousand young, agelessly wise master of unearthly magics. Also, a Toad.
  2. This seems less power-gamey and moreso something Engineers should be doing on a regular basis. Oh, and, if I have to throw in a bit of a power and/or metagaming rant for the thread, well, I'll put it in list form. The way in which it's done, would completely overlap what counts as basic IC knowledge. It's specifically abusing the physics of the game engine itself to provide near-instantaneous power in the event of the singularity not being able to produce sufficient energy to the station. You think too small. You can generate infinite power by abusing some of the lesser known mechanics. In fact, infinite power is very easy. Finding a way to transport infinite power is harder.
  3. Tish, bring me the names of the degenerates, so that I may lay ruin to their homelands and set them ablaze. They know too much, IAAs must be called in, and a manhunt for their informants must begin. Once the rivers run red with their blood, return to me, on my throne of femurs, and lay down your sword, and only then, shall justice be done.
  4. I'm going to be Sue, and say No. You are a Scientist. You are paid to do Research, and Produce Data. You are not paid to be everyone's personal teleporter.
  5. So, before I get to ranting, I want to first say that I like the science department, and the characters dedicated to it and the players behind them. But, everytime I hear or see some of the things that are happening in Research, it pushes me ever closer to insanity. So, lets talk about Science Department for a bit, because, from my point of view, we've got three rather large issues: 1: Scientists not doing their actual jobs: Scientists are supposed to do research. They are not supposed to be security, or medical, or engineering, or any of the other damn departments. That's not your job, and frankly, it isn't fun for anyone else, since you're taking their jobs away from them. And, IMO, using expensive high-tech experimental testing equipment for trying to do anything other than Research is weird. 2: Research isn't being done: Science is not about production. It's not about making stuff, it's about producing Publishable Data. That means, you shouldn't just be maxing R&D and then just sitting around all round acting like some sort of super-cargo. You should do research, run real tests, gather data, take notes, make graphs, and compile them into real Publishable Data, with repeatable results, objective data and measurements. 3: Lack of Teamwork: Alot of scientists go crawl into their own little labs and stay there. The only exception is Robotics and R&D, and that's only temporary, and pretty much ends once R&D is maxed. Frankly, the majority of actual research requires people working togeather to get the data. And, I think this is kinda part of the reason why so little actual research is being done, since most people don't realized they have access to the effectively unlimited resources a coordinated science department has. So, yeah, that's my Rant. Any questions?
  6. So, I have a very, very, very foggy idea of what happened here, but, I have to say, that, of all the weirdly backstaberashity things that permeate our community, that this feels just malicious. But, I wasn't there, and frankly, I know someone has already been spoken to and whatnot, but, I don't know about you, but I've certainly got the desire to actually talk to several peoples about things now. That sounded better in my head, but, still, valid sentence.
  7. I used the EMP spell as a wizard, while also having a mechanically assisted heart. I also ordered my Golems to shoot me before, to test weapon damages and healing rates. I've gridlocked myself several times, using either cannisters or other Xenoarcheology equipment, and ended up running out of air on the asteroid.
  8. This.THIS. Bad sec officers do one thing that gets them arrested, and dealt with by sec. But a good sec officer messes up, snaps at someone, or shows emotion? "HURR DURR SHITCURITY OMFG I DON'T CARE IF SHE MADE GRENADES SHE'S MY ERP PARTNER LEAVE US TO OUR SKYPE.". I honestly want to play a future round that ends with Imraj finally snapping and going on a shooting spree, just to relieve all that tension which has built up. The mental image of Imraj with a flamethrower, a laser rifle and a bag full of carbines going in a shooting spree is eerily easy to conjure up.
  9. Hey, Let me tell you, about, Vittorio Giurifigilio. He's a jerk. He's actually, like, the best jerk. He's this boss, that people don't like, but, not because he's bad at this job, (necessarily) but because he's just kinda a jerk to people. And that's awesome, because he's the right kind of jerk, and he's got his own jerkish reasons, and that creates an actually interesting dynamic in the workplace. So, Kudos to Tytos for reaching the perfect equilibrium for his character.
  10. Basically, I kinda want to have a Chemical that doesn't do anything mechanically. Have it called like, Programmable Bio-Nanites. The idea is, they're high-end, self assembling chemical nano-machines, that can do tons of stuff, but are way-slow. Like, as in, you'd have to take them for weeks, months, years or longer, based on what they're being used for. They can't do everything, but they're a cost-effective generic treatment, even if the programming is rather crude. So, they're basically used for RP purposes only. You have a character who has a horrible, life threatening illness yet is somehow still going to work? These are the things they need to keep themselves upright throughout the workday (But might not fix things enough before the disease kills them.)
  11. So, I can do most Wensdays and Weekend days for that time bracket, unless any issues come up. Also, I managed to get a friend to loan me their 5th Edition books if I need them, so I might do like, a barbarian or something not in the quickstart guide. Also, we're starting at Level one I assume?
  12. You linked the 4th edition rules. I think you wants to link this one, http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/PlayerDnDBasicRules_v0.2.pdf I also know about negative two things about any the of editions after 3.5, but I can skedaddle some 5th edition rule books from my friends. So,sure, I'm interested.
  13. ...I want Waffle Nuke. I want it so bad. That's just, the most brilliant idea.
  14. Pretty much this. Cultists have barely anything truely fighting against them, mechanics wise. Once you gank the priest, you're set. I'd be all for this, because it would make cultists more careful. There could be better ways to make Cult harder, and this one just seems un-fun, since it doesn't really add anything, just take stuffs away in an awkward fashion. Plus, non-functioning runes don't have a glowing sprite. Functioning ones do (Most of the time. Either my eyesight is just bad, or it sometimes doesn't). But, yes, if you want to Nerf cult, there could be cooler ways to do it. Like, I dunno, (over)using Runes could cause hallucinations. Actually, that could be cool. And I think the code could work for it too. Hmm...Now, that gives me even more ideas...
  15. The 2nd of Slate, 52 Finally got around to completing the Archive backlog from the winter feasts. While the feasting is certainly better then the great starvation of yesteryear, trying to Balance the books afterwords is not so pleasurable. At the very least, we've gotten things together in time for the Elven Traders arrival. Sold them a few trinkets for several baskets of their strange desert fruits. The new Ballistas seem to have impressed them, and the new underground steel forge has given us more then enough ammo for it. As for the great hall, work has been slow but steady. The center dining hall is nearing completion, as is the Necropolis and the Mayor's Palace. The Siphon forges and the new workshops have been but on hold while we work to get the main complex built in time for the summer feasts. The 3rd of Felsite, 52 Two craftdwarves went crazy and sealed themselves in the Magma plat-forge. Typical. It's not like we have a schedule to keep for the grand opening of the new district. Also, apparently some Migrants arrived, all wide eyed and looking for treasure. At least they can help carry the all rocks we have lying around. The 16th of Malachite, 52 With the Beginning of the Summer Festivals and the completion of the Grand new Hall Complex, we welcomed another group of Migrants to our lands. Or at least, I did. The rest of the Council kinda either just sneered at them or weren't present. The Militia Captains were all absent, due to some sort of situation down in the caverns that Seto had mentioned. CMD Haruspex was busy teaching his staff how to break a child's limbs to treat their mild fever. So it was just me, the Mayor, and the sleepy Broker around. I should probably do something about Haruspex's teaching methods. The 4th of Sandstone, 52 Almost been an entire year since I've arrived here. Well, the main-hall of the new megecomplex has been fully dug out, and slowly works being done to bring it up to code. The Great hall segment is entirely functional now, and the Necropolis only needs it's coffins installed to get things working down there. The Mayor's palace still needs some work, but it shouldn't be too much trouble. Oh, and Seto and his little army of Sworders and Spear-ers came back from the Caverns, dragging some dead frog-men. Well, I guess we'll be having frog for the winter feasts then. Some of the new Migrants are running for the Town Council. Hope they're smarter then the nutters I'm stuck with currently. Here, catch: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10393 Try not the break it. It was hard enough fixing the first time around.
  16. Yes, but no one ever respects someone packing a gun that shoots rays of light that burn you. New plan, Rename laser rifles into death rays. Energy carbines become death carbines, Rename lasers into just death beams, Energy pistols become ray guns, Pulse destroyers become Death Obliterators, Laser Snipers become Deathbringers, Heavy flashlights become heavy death wave projectors, Flashbacks become death grenades. Other then changing the name, nothing else changes, FYI, plasma weapons exist. They just are pretty rare and don't get used much.
  17. The 7th of Sandstone,51 Finally arrived at Coglektad, and the place is a mess. Honestly can't see what the Mountainhome sees in this place. But, somehow, I managed to get roped into the town council of the place. Apparently someone misread Architect as Archivist, and put me down as the new book keeper. The last one was actually just a really good Bonecrafter that got the job because they didn't have many bones. Wonder if anyone'll notice if I slip in a few construction permits into the mix. The 27th of Sandstone, 51 So, it started out simple. Just a small forged memo from the Mayor to move all the Milita personnel and weapons into the half-built training bunker. Then I fast tracked a few requests for more storage space on the workshop sector. No one noticed. Then I kinda threw in a massive hall complex as the center of a new district. It's been a week, and work has already begun on it. The rest of the Council still hasn't acknowledged anything wrong yet. The 23rd of Timber, 51 Work has been slow, but several issues have finally been resolved. The ballista fortifications near the main entrance are being expanded for additional firing arcs. The Milita's bunker now has several *very* pointed traps keeping out the unwanted intruders. A new underground magma forge is slowly taking shape, using siphoned magma from the volcano's main vent. The hall complex is underway, with planned wings for additional magma forges under the main tunnels, a Necropolis for the dead, and a new palace for the Mayor, more housing, an entire wing of workshops, and some massive stockpiles. We also finally managed to get a basic hospital together, with a Surgeon called Haruspex manning it. For some reason, the rest of the Council continues to insist on above ground farming and animal domestication to supply the majority of our food. I've never-the-less managed to sneak in plans for a new underground farming complex nested in the secured area of the caverns. While Plump helmet wine gets old after a few weeks, it's better then the rampant dehydration the older Council members complain of. Still can't figure out where to put all these damn rocks.
  18. People are bad at Apologizing. All peoples. Everywhere. Something about causation. Does forgiving people make things better? Sometimes. It's complicated. But, giving people the benefit of the doubt, it certainly helps ease up the whole situation. I'm not actually that great at doing that. Lots of people aren't. People get hurt, feelings get a trampled, and life goes on. It's really, about, if people are willing to let themselves get hurt, and if they're willing to hurt others. Maybe I'm rambling.I'm certainly privy to enough silly drama to think I know what I'm saying. But, Delta, I'm going to make a bit of a point here. We're all Hypocrites. Seriously. In much the same vein as I'm Hypocritical about how people should be more willing to give people the benefit of the doubt (I've grown increasingly irritated at many new science characters and their players), tons of other people are Hypocritical about a thousand different things. And, the thing is, really, that includes you. We do shit we probably shouldn't. So here's the thing. If you want the community to be less elitist and narrow-minded, be that part of the community that's open-minded and accepting. You know what I mean. You've got your own share of players that frankly, you need to forgive and let go of your prejudices against. So, like, Yada Yada, be a better person, lead by example, self-righteous wordy things.
  19. Says the arrivals bomber~ But, horribleness of our peoples aside, I'm on the fence here. There are ships. I like ships. Also the word commodore came up, and that's a good thing. But also, the ships, while I could call them space-ships, weren't space enough to be spaceships (one word). So, really, the whole thing fell apart for me because there wasn't enough space-e-ness. I mean, I guess I could fill in the blanks about the space stuffs to make it space-e-er, but then the themes end up way different because suddenly it's about logistics and how you would field mechs in an armored battalion in an urban setting. Or like, wondering if an HE round fired from a rail gun would actually be any more effective then conventional cannons. And then like, I considering where the drones start to play a role. Then it circles back to Kinetic warheads... Ahem. Um. Yeah, the word, commodore came up. Great start.
  20. Because someone had to post it. But yes, the name gives the referency vibes to those of us that played Fallout New Vegas way more then we should.
  21. Eh, sometimes. It's probably because it takes time for peoples to either get to know if you're good through normal play, or actively look into it.
  22. Tested for Lasers, doesn't work. I assume bullets also don't work for it.
  23. Contextual knows their Chems really, really, really well. It's kinda creepy how well he knows them. Doesn't seem that bad at the rest of medical either. But like, I'm not up voting him for that. I'm upvoting him, so that in the event my constant stream of corrupting maddness drives him over the edge, this will happen: Squeaky, Captain, has arrived on the station.
  24. Aurora's just this station. It's not state of the art, but it's out of the way, and doesn't really have that great oversight. It's claim to fame pretty much comes down to it's pretty diverse crew, which is mostly a result of people being assigned there because the higherups don't want them to be anywhere else. We're out of the way, but, we're not like, a deathtrap. A few decent breakthroughs have come out of the station, but no one really expects those to be a consistant thing, and there are like, a few decently respected experts that are either there because they were expecting a less stressful environment then the top-level stations, or they pissed someone off in HR. But, it's a small research station, way out there, we're not the best, but we're far from the worst. Like, we're not CERN. I'd kinda compare us more to one of the dead end SETI facilities, in that, we're not expected to have guaranteed results, we're off the beaten path, but we're still staffed and funded fairly well, and are secretly under threat by a Aliens and people who dress in red and/or talk about communism.
  25. I thought tooth brushing had nothing to do with braces. Like, I did kind of a shit job brushing my teeth when I was little, but my teeth grew together perfectly and I won't ever need braces. Oh, and I also have 20/20 vision. Get wrecked. As in, Braces, Duck's IPC.
