Highly disagree with them being irremovable by the player, security incidents would have a higher priority over some head of staff's opinion. You can argue security is not whitelisted, but security charges need a good enough IC reason or they would be handled by staff if they arrest and incarnate someone, a head of staff giving his opinion and sticking it on someone's head is not an issue that can be dealt with by staff, unless you want Heads of Staff whitelists stripped over giving slightly offensive / not so true opinions on employees.

You do know that HoS IPCs have some very high restrictions right? first, you will need a recommendation from a captain faxed to CCIA. (In round) secondly, HoS and HoP spots can only be staffed with shell frames. (can't circumvent) thirdly, NT will only hire IPCs it owns, or "free" IPCs that get shackled with debts for the new shell frame. (can't circumvent) I like opamator, he is a good security robot, but only a security robot, a head of security has other duties that require more social skills than a military battle drone can deliver. +1 for the player, but -1 for Opamator being a HoS, I honestly don't think he's a good fit for the job with his current character.

[Withdrawn] Datberry's Vaurcae LoreDev Application
DatBerry replied to DatBerry's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I don't have any plans in concrete right now, But the vague idea is, they would have to either rely on a tank (again, but a different gas) or depend on the atmosphere + implant that requires something else, giving them two ways to continue, and have the consequence crippling but not round ending for the character. -
Ckey/BYOND Username: Datberry Position Being Applied For Vaurca Loredev Past Experiences/Knowledge: Nothing of note that I can remember. Do you play Vaurca extensively? Why? I used to play vaurcae, but I stopped around fowl's retirement, mostly because the lore was changing and I was waiting for it to settle down but then I did not like the way the lore headed with chev, and then tammy took over and I wasn't really sure which parts were retconned and not and which will be, so I waited for longer, and now here we are. If you were chosen for Lore Developer, what would your plans be for Vaurca? Reduce VR importance, have it more of a training system for bounds, and a work/research/enjoyment environment for unbound. Increase the content in the pre-human period vaurcae can experience, something I noticed in past whitelist apps is the lack of anything of interest pre-meeting humans. (compared to tajara/skrel/unathi etc, they feel a lot more limited). Expand on the augmentation part of the lore, and see how cyborg(the actual term)-like features would fit the players and lore. Rework Koi's and phoron breathing, as it never made sense that NT would hire "cheap labor" that literally breathes phoron to stay alive. Would you embark on major or minor rewrites of Vaurca lore? If yes, why is your rewrite worth it? I think the major rework would be Koi's and phoron breathing, currently it leaves you hanging with IC questions like "how is hiring them even profitable?" "why don't we just use kois and some bounds to farm infinite phoron?" It's also not the (IMO) best implantation of a survival-like system, it's currently a sure fire way to be killed if you go AFK, and without any outside help, makes working certain time consuming jobs not enjoyable if not impossible, I want to replace it with a crippling consequence that can be remedied afterwards, and not a round ending one.

[Denied] Knightroid's Head of Staff application

Going to have to echo what Munks and others have said, Sara is simply too incompetent for a security officer, let alone a head of staff. I suggest you make a security cadet character and try to learn the ropes properly from competent security officers, and give these pages a read, a little outdated but should give you a good idea of what's expected. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Corporate_Regulations https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Station_Directives https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Security_Officer and most importantly, this https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Guide_to_Security -

You were given a warning 3-4 days ago, and unless you check your warnings tab and acknowledge it, it will continue you give you a message everytime you login, but I guess it's easy to miss. going afk is fine if it's for 10 minutes or max, but you would simply log off for the rest of the round, taking up the slot, or only coming back 40minutes or so later. this is not Ok, if you need to go use cryo, if you can't make it in time, ask someone in LOOC to take care of you, worst case scenario you shoot an ahelp asking to be cryo'd because you have to go right now. I'm going to lift this ban as long as you agree to follow what I wrote above. -

I, Alexander Stock, Assistant, am also interested in attending. -
For some reason I never liked Araa much, maybe because I haven't had the chance to interact with them much, or maybe because her smug aura mocked me. The squid officer however was a good boi, They are one of those officers you can rely on to follow regulations and do the job, and heads of staff need people who can follow regulations, but how good are you at enforcing them? are you ready to deal with bad employees working under you? how harsh can you get? insubordination is srs business and shouldn't be ignored.

While I logged before this incident unfolded I believe, I have a few things to point out: your conflict with yahir is canon, so it's not metagrudging on their part, if you are a dick to someone as a non antag or the action wasn't influenced by an antag, it's canon. Gotta deal with the consequences of being a dick. another point is, it doesn't need sherlock holmes to deduce the cargo tech with no access sitting in mining with the tools needed to hack the door was the prime suspect, and since the miners knew they didn't let you in, they were pretty sure it was your doing, the other miner, mia, had just arrived so they weren't sure, as the logs showed. the last point is, (as i've talked to Ezuo before posting this) Hunter's use of the drill is beyond being described by me without sounding mean, so I'll just say that they were talked to, another incident like this will probably end up with a mining jobban ban.

Aaron Hughes's Head of Staff Application
DatBerry replied to Aaron J. Hughes's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You can get liked by doing a lot of things, offering fines instead of brig time, paroling 3-5 minute sentences, not using cuffs for violent criminals, removing them as soon as possible when you have to use them, giving them communal before they ask etc, etc. some inmates are lost causes, but that doesn't mean you get to treat everyone else the same, the cadet mentioned earlier was left bucklecuffed till he got his ID, unless someone is literally dying in the brig, you can take the time to remove the prisoner's hand cuffs, and they should never if possible be left with handcuffs on and buckled while spending their time in a cell, whether it's solitary or normal cells. Going on a break is hardly abandoning a department, officers go on breaks all the time, stashing their equipment to get a drink in the bar, or at least used to. the cadet was antagonized by the officer and instead of being the middleman you dogpiled on the cadet and refused to see their point of view, as a head of staff you're expected to solve issues, You can order cadets, but you can not control their entire time on station, you already showed how badly you treat those you can order, I don't want to see you ordering officers or other crew as a head of staff. looking at the incident report filed on the forums, you left them in the cell till their ID came back? that's illegal detainment, another incident happened while I was writing the earlier post, you had left a person in solitary bucklecuffed because.... why? there's no legal grounds to keep someone cuffed to a bed. this hasn't been the only incident I am sure, yes you are improving, but I don't believe you've reached the point where you can lead a department yet. But I can't trust you to run a department, the security department at that, when you are still breaking regulations and abusing crew yourself. what? WHAT!? being nice, socializing and roleplaying with prisoners is powergaming? I'm not even going to answer this till you tell me what part exactly is powergaming, because I'm sure you've no idea either. -
Aaron Hughes's Head of Staff Application
DatBerry replied to Aaron J. Hughes's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm ganna have to go with a big -1 right now, Aaron is more often than not, borderlining shitcurity and incompetence, the most often incident is leaving crewmembers bucklecuffed because they're troublesome, they'll eventually get out of it, and have cuffs which would justify him tazing them. more often than not they help prisoners escalate their punishments till it's a HUT, whether by sheer incompetence or advanced baiting tactics, the outcome is the same, anyone mildly bald who gets brigged is antagonized into getting a HUT, I've yet to see you try and befriend inmates or do your job above average. as noted, the cadet incident could've went way better, if they are on break they aren't on duty, then they're not forced to wear uniform as long as they don't carry firearms, which they usually don't. You can't order someone to not have a break, or to cut their break unless they've taken the whole shift off or there's an emergency. -

Currently, whenever a cultist makes any rune in any location all mods/admins with logs on get This is just too much meta info a man doesn't need when they aren't investigating an issue, Hell I can't think of an issue where you will need to know whether john smith made a rune or not popping up often. this needlessly takes away the fun in cult rounds and OOC mystery and immersion from mods/admins playing, and this isn't about acting on metaknowledge either. it's easy to ignore that the guy you are looking for in maintenance is actually in the captain's office, but when you know your investigation is fruitless from the start your OOC drive to play just plummets and you burn out fast. I suggest we keep these logged in variables, and only have certain runes like EMP, bloodboil and stun show up like Showing up only when used, and not displaying where exactly it is used.

[Resolved] Unfair warning issue from a rescue attempt?
DatBerry replied to AnyaShimizu's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Your character the surgeon, upon seeing the ninja and officer engaged, did not call for help over the radio, instead pulled out a knife (how and why did a surgeon have a butterfly knife?) and started stabbing the ninja, the officer at the time was still standing, but nearing crit and that is something you probably already knew via the medical HUD, the officer falls down and you continue to fight the ninja, making no attempts to grab the officer at any time. you manage to pin down the ninja and you proceed to beat him not to crit, but until he falls limp, that is 100 more damage after sending them to critical. mind you all this time the ninja was trying to escape you, you kept following them. At no point did you attempt to run and away and call for help, nor did you attempt to grab the officer and run away, something you could've managed after sending the ninja to critical, instead you decided to beat an injured man to death. -
Honestly, would rather keep the damage and go with the two points I suggested, instead of straight up damage reduction, it gives more variation to it's use (have to cook it up, corner people etc) and counter (jumping down).

Frag grenades should not be able to have their timer changed, a one second frag is not avoidable in any real capacity. Resting/being down should give you a high chance to dodge shrapnel, unless all the shrapnel is shot at the legs, going down should let you dodge any shrapnel shooting above 30 - 45 degrees
-
the slipping needs to be removed, conversion and de-conversion being optional should stay. how in the fuck do you slap someone full force to the face when you were trying to wave it in front of his face makes no fucking sense.

milk comes from titties, sucking titties is straight. if you have insecurities about milk being semen THEN YOU ARE GAY

You know, I was actually thinking about this, almost exactly the same idea. but there are major issues with it. Firstly, this will OOCly bore a lot of the casual players, who will leave before figuring out any alternatives, pop is ganna take a hit and while it doesn't matter during summertime, it will hurt in the winter. (some would consider this a positive) dead hour rounds will be severely penalized with this, it already feels like a graveyard, a lack of common would just give more to the feeling and personally I would probably completely stop playing dead hour rounds if this goes through. /tg/ has a system where you get extra access if the round start count is low, we could possibly port that but for common. I'm in support of trialing this but i would like to see it switched out every two rounds or every day, it's a pretty major change and it would scare people completely off before they had a say in it.

[Resolved] Player Complaint SleepyWolf
DatBerry replied to Gollee's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I believe the issue was that the HoS was not a loyalist, and the captain ignored the whole round and whatever the HoP was doing to look for her stolen gun.
