The initial Ahelp: This is very misleading, he did not open fire on you for "no reason" you were ordering him to return the weapons, and he had assumed you were going to get him arrested. and the wording Implies he started shooting right off the bat. on the contrary, all he did at first was push you with force gloves and held a riot shield. You went after him with a flash. and stomped him. then he pulled a lawgiver and shot you, he did not even give chase after you ran away and left you to escape. A changeling was printing weapons during code red where security was armed by the armory and you were on your way to arm them with more weapons, now he had so many reasons to stop you, even kill you. but let's address the powergaming point. The definition of powergaming, as stated the changeling was first of all, an antag. that alone is a reason to get a weapon. secondly it was code red and everyone was dying. security armed and what not. having ling powers doesn't mean you can't use other equipment, I still don't believe you think this is a valid argument, your question came off threatening to the changeling, thinking you wanted him to hand over all his weapons, and believing you would get him arrested, not to mention you were going to arm security, his main counter force. he had enough reasons to KILL you. but he did not unload at you from the beginning, he pushed you and smacked you with the riot shield, hardly a murder attempt, you flashed them and as far as i know, made no attempt to escape until you unleashed fire at them. ???? why would he even care? don't give him security standards to escalation of force, they're the bad guy, they're not expected to follow lethal weapons regulations. and you were hardly unarmed, you had an instant stun weapon you have already used, and taking someone down with a flash is hilariously easy. He had no reasons to give you another shot at flashing him. I would argue he did drive a story, he played the shady insubordinate scientist who attacked the RD and let them off the hook so they could report it or do whatever they want. and you can't judge someone's roleplay on your own interactions with them alone. and lastly, antagonists are already having it hard, Do you really want us to start bwoinking antags for making weapons and shooting people who flashed them? I told you to quote it because what you were reporting as powergaming does not fit under the definition. Honestly, i said this because there wasn't any active and free admins at the time, i believe only prate was not afk and they were already dealing with other issues. and I had two other adminhelps to deal with and didn't want to extend the PMs anymore. Not really related, but if you ever think I am doing a sub-par work, don't shy off from making a staff complaint, It was a very busy round for me in PM handling to the point where i had to completely stop playing and I may have made a mistake, that you or someone else could point out. but i believe this time I've addressed all concerns. Now to delta's reply. They did not kill them, hardly, they pushed them and whacked them, and they came back and flashed the ling. even after all this they did not kill them nor attempt to follow them and silence them from speaking. here's the sequence of events from how I understood it: RD walks in and prints a weapon scientist ling takes weapon RD asks them to hand it over scientist pushes them with force gloves and bashed them with shield RD gets up flashes them and kicks them on the floor scientist gets up and unloads at RD RD escapes scientist doesn't chase. the scientist had enough reason to fight, and their other claim, as i stated before, was that the antag was powergaming by hording weapons, during code red. and that's why i asked them to check the rules themselves because that is not what i would call powergaming, not by a long shot.

[Accepted] MyNameIsLo Shell Frame IPC App <3

I only have a few things to point out about the story, first, it's really a minor detail, but I don't think there's much phoron in sol, so it makes little sense to be used here. another point is sol isn't very tolerant of synth rights, and a robot escaping from it's owner would get shipped back. and why would Hephaestus take them in if the robot run off and betrayed the person they were designed to be with? that robot is not trust worthy. and lastly, why would hephaestus send the robot to NT if it was so unique and special? they'd just keep it for themselves to research. hephheph and NT are rivals. -

[Resolved] Player Complaint on Superiorform
DatBerry replied to Prospekt's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I was handling this issue before my bandwidth ran out and i was left without internet, sorry for the random dropout. I would like to first point out that Robots have no feelings, no emotions; closest thing is emotion emulation, which they use to display their mood but I don't believe it effects their decision making process. A robot would not act differently after stressful events like interrogating armblade lings due to being annoyed, which was an excuse used ICly to justify snapping so much at the HoP and Captain. What others saw wasn't a robot breaking underpressure, but a robot that is rude and ignores orders, either it is fundamentally flawed and functions this badly all the time or it is broken, as was deduced by the HoP in the logs. continuing, this broken robot who was refusing orders and was passive aggressive towards the captain was also armed, and made their stance that they were ready to shoot back, the robot that can not be stunned in anyway, i really don't understand why you brought up him using lethals instead of stun, stun beams do literally nothing to ipcs, nothing what so ever. even with human crewmembers, while it is prefered to use less than lethal weapons, if they are refusing arrest and are armed with lethals, lethal weapons are allowed, being immune to less than lethals and being uncooperative is a highway to getting lethal weapons used on you. I wasn't aware of how you actually acted with the captain at the time but that is a subject for another thread. i've also pinged cake the synthlore dev to give input on the issue since its related to robotz. -
I don't see why an IPC acting non-human should change to accommodate the social norms when they aren't breaking any lore or OOC rules, we're supposed to encourage weird, interesting and bizarre actions from IPCs not discourage them and end up with either a respirited human or hardcore ice cold robot.

[Accepted] Server Moderator Application - DatBerry
DatBerry replied to DatBerry's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
As i said in my PMs, my internet did improve enough that i can play without lag all day except for prime time where my ping gets around 0.6, which isn't an issue since there's a lot of staff online at that time -
#UnbanRusty2017 I'm pretty sure the reason your last appeal didn't get accepted because it felt like it was lazily written, if you put a little effort like you did in this post I'm sure it'll be accepted

WHAT: A UI Records Setup with buttons and boxes that starts at the birth of your character to his current career with options and stuff, you pick the birth, family financial level, education etc etc WHY: An easier way to setup records, and a way to unify the records format for newbies who may be unsure to how to properly setup records, or people who are too lazy to do so themselves. this also have another benefit other than more people having records, it will also help people know what skills their characters could gain with their backstories. HOW: This is still a rough idea, but before we go further, this will not be restricting, people can either completely ignore it, do it and then change records/skills or do records/skills on their own You would first start by picking a place of birth, then family financial status, childhood education and interests (depending on your future career this may add more experience to skills), then teenage age, where you choose to stay where you are, study school, move or start work etc and what hobbies you've had if any. and then a similar stage for early adulthood where you choose college education if any, work and other experiences that your character went through, if they had moved systems or what else. As an example, you could pick Elyria as your birth place, being born into a mid/high-class family, your character is able to attend higher education easier, where a low class born character would have less options in education but more options in criminal activity and such. thoughts?

it's the only other hazard miners have to deal with along with holes, just take the steps to not blow it up, it's delicate heavy machinery and you should treat it as such OOCly too (right click > pull etc) maybe add a random timer for it to explode, but i think it's fine as is.

[Accepted] Server Moderator Application - DatBerry
DatBerry replied to DatBerry's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Withdrawing the application mainly due to my internet taking a turn for the worst for almost a month now with no sign of improving, haven't been able to login for longer than 5 minutes, and there's already good people filling and willing to fill any more spots opening in the future so I don't think I'm needed. I was disappointed at first when I wasn't picked, I used to login 4 hours every day minimum, averaging around 5-6 hours every day, there were days I would login and stay on from morning to midnight and as far I know I was at least average, no one ever actually talked to me about any issues they had with me, the two staff complaints I got had the staff's support too as far as I know, so when they decide almost completely to pick someone who plays with OOC off all the time, plays three-four times or so a week (no offense to them) it felt like all the effort I put in my time was spat on and thrown out of the window and I can't really understand why unless they either A: never logged in enough to notice how active i used to be, B: had issues with me, which they never brought up. C: simply disliked me, which I haven't seen any signs. Pikl and Ezuo are great picks though, and I don't have any issues with them, and they would probably outperform me in anything other than having no life. end of rant, just wanted to talk my mind. -
Assistants answer to everyone, while you can't force them to change jobs you can already force them to do work they know/doesn't require much knowledge. Assistants form a pool of unassigned dumb labor that any department can use when needed, most of the time though, no one needs extra helpers, assigning specialized helpers would just cut up the amount of labor available, (e.g: service assistant wouldn't help cargo even if they ask, as it's not his job) the problem comes not from the worker though, but from the employer, you can't help those who do not wish to be helped. a limp wristed scientist would rather push and pull two crates on their own than ask an assistant to do it. why? their irrational fear of the assistant running off with the crate in an isolated station in space. Have you ever played as an assistant and tried to assist? I'm guessing not, it's something you can't understand until you've tried it yourself. I've observed assistants turn to the life of crime, to the passerby you would think they're just chimping out for no reason, but if you've been following them you'd notice that almost every interaction they've had with anyone had them receiving distrust, passive aggressiveness or even out right insults for practically no reason. the stereotype of assistants is encouraged by the playerbase. giving them department related jobs and access would help against the stigma but there's still the issue of splitting up the dumb labor on such a small station and on jobs that doesn't even require a training course or anything, cargo techs are already basically clean slate idiots and ex/active criminals, I don't know what more of a fool can you get to work as a cargo assistant, and people almost never sit to eat, why'd NT hire a full time waiter? any job lower than current supply and service departments have can already be done by an assistant, and they're expected to if the need ever arises, and sometimes they actually might be needed, but do you believe it's likely that the assistant would refuse to help or would it be more likely that they are never called? from my experience it was the latter. Solving an OOC issue with an IC solution that doesn't make much IC sense doesn't really work well. Again, if an assistant refuses to assist without any proper reason, they should be arrested for neglect of duty. if an assistant is given work, he'll have less time to goof off.

you aimed a gun because the guy disagreed with your opinion, not only that, everyone in the department seemed to disagree with you and your desire to arrest the engineer, so why did you aim a lethal weapon at an officer who may have been following the HoS's orders in not arresting said engineer? the HoS, the officer and the warden all ignored you, did you consider you were missing out on something? maybe you misunderstood something? There was a clear lack of communications, I wasn't there so i can't really tell, but it appears both the warden and officer knew and probably the HoS too, so I'm guessing you didn't pay attention to the radio/disconnected/was busy when they talked about it. so i wouldn't count this against you. also disregarding your revolver being filled with lethal bullets or underestimating what lethal bullets do, this is one of the two big sins new detectives fall for, which you did in this event. You only aim when you're in a situation that justifies shooting the person if they move, an officer disregarding you is NOT one, you can't aim at someone, have them move, fill them with 4 bullets and put the responsibility on them, and as stated by BSA, you almost sent them to the shadow realm over that small incident. and I want to know what mental gymnastics you took that validated aiming a gun at the officer for disagreeing with you because a detective cant go do the arrest himself? what do you call aiming a lethal gun at someone, enforcing justice? It's out of your job's realm to see through that the arrest is handled and to deal with anything that stops it, your job is to investigate and that's pretty much it, unless you witnessed the officer unhandcuff a murderer you witnessed with your own eyes, you rarely if ever take direction action beyond reporting it. even if the evidence was valid, those steps you took were definitely not so. neglecting duty is not a charge that justified lethal weaponry on it's own, ever.

my main issue with lichdom is that it is completely out of league with the other schools, why even go any other school when you can become an immortal necromancer with an army of angry skeletons? other than gimmicks and backstories, firepower alone the necromancer school is just not balanced compared to the other schools. I think a good nerf would be to make the phylactery require power and have it act somewhat like the traitor's powersink, placing it over powered cabled and it requiring power, and with enough effort, you can hide it away from preying eyes unless someone is looking really hard for it. AND/OR everytime the lich is recalled the phylactery causes an abnormal effect much like xenoarch artifacts, everytime they respawn it will either cause an EMP, a fire, a sudden cooling effect etc, that could draw attention to the place it is in, so that lichs will try their best not to have to use it to avoid it getting found.

I disagree with this suggestion and wouldn't support anything more than cargo orderable doggo, all the points you make about the detective being useless can be spinned back at the dog dude, at least the detective has more than one niche job, not only do they interrogate suspects, they can also accompany the CSI and guard them, make hypothesis on the crimes and give ideas to the CSI, questioning witnesses etc, the doggo man does what? use his dog to sniff explosives or drugs. that's it. and as pointed out earlier in the thread, it doesn't fit well with our mechanics, either it becomes 'destroy every drug dealer ever' or useless.

I like the idea of a more severe event but I think it was not properly thought out. I have a few issues with it, one can be dealt with via mechanics, the other needs to be roleplayed out. Firstly, I think the delivery method sucks, so these space teleporting bears can teleport anywhere and they always pick us, WHY? It also needs some RNGesus in it's life, when the event is announced you know it's teleporting bluespace bears and not some vague "bioweapon". I suggest we change the event slightly, so instead it would go like "An xenobiological sample pod has drifted off-course due to meteors, contact with the ASS Aurora imminent" or something along that line, and a bunch of mobs from a list would be on a drop pod that randomly falls in a low traffic area with accessibility to hallways or departments, maybe make them two to spread them out more. though with newmap it would be a bit restricted, maybe falls through the roof of an elevator and moves down? anything is better than right now. Another issue is how frequent canonically this happens as pointed out, everyone is pretty much jaded about bio-fucking-weapons invading their workplace because some sick fucko can't hold their bluespace bears who in the FUCK is making bluespace teleporting bears and for WHAT FUCKING PURPOSE. I've started treating it like something that only happened once, but i think some RnGesus in what comes out can help with suspension of disbelief, like "yea we had a pod crash and some cute cats cam-OH GOD HELP!"

[Resolved] Character Complaint - Shas'kala Sakaei
DatBerry replied to FlameCow's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I would like to point out that a security officer holding a suspect in a grab is not excessive force unless the grab is red AND glowing and fading, which indicates chocking them, while stable red merely has them disabled. sometimes the suspect is not cuffable or they may have just subdued them and were about to put the cuffs on. -

[Resolved] Ban Request - Jesse Armstrong
DatBerry replied to Aaron J. Hughes's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Oh I remember your detective, I hope I'm not mixing people up, but I'm very sure it was armstrong. my only direct interaction with your character ended up with me getting shot with lethals for fleeing an illegal arrest over what was only battery, fleeing after you pulled your revolver none the less. that showed that you lack regulations and arrest procedure knowledge and lack of any care for the damage lethal weapons do. to top it all you said over comms that you had "good aim" and shot for the legs. ironically enough the bullet fragmented and gave me internal bleeding in my leg and i would've died if i didn't run to medical in time. That same round [mention]sonicgotnuked[/mention] mentioned you ruined the negotiations between him (the captain) and the ninja by shooting lethals (again) at them, and would've demoted you had it not been for the blob and other incidents they had to deal with. now this happened a while ago, but this complaint is telling me you're still the same and nothing has changed. -
[Rescinded] Hydra's Alien whitelist app
DatBerry replied to Hydrablast's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello! I assume you are new, Have you played a few rounds on the server yet? you've hinted that all three characters are tajara (The ones you've listed under character names). Ok never mind you've already stated they're all tajara. I don't know how much of synthetic lore you've read on our server, but it is very very different, your AI personality tajara simply doesn't fit in, not to mention the snowflakey feeling stories they seem to have. Your answer for what makes tajara different seems to be generic statement + mechanic differences from the lore page. Into the story itself, there's nothing in the story that tells me "yes, this is a tajara", i can put a human character and have the story go word by word and it will still fit it. I highly suggest you read our tajara lore, they're living on a icey rock of a planet ravaged by a three front civil war, and it's pretty much a requirement for whitelist characters to be engaged somehow in the conflict, or be effected by it. I highly suggest you read the tajara lore page fully, and play a few rounds, your character larith can still be incorporated into the lore, but our lore is very different, and it may not be what you're looking for in a humanoid cat race. -
[Accepted] DatBerry's Unathi Whitelist
DatBerry replied to DatBerry's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Yea, i hinted at it being some kind of annual meeting for the clan, going there to meet the whole clan when reaching a certain age and sparring with everyone watching, i just chose not to bloat the story too much. also hinted in the story, the father gave up on everything but his son after the war, he was the only thing keeping him going, and seeing he raised him into a pussy ass bitch destroyed the little things that were left. -
I like this a lot but i have some issues: A: a full face mask should have some armor value, it being made out of metal and all B: tish mentioned they no longer want to do custom items with an armor value these two points cancel each other out, but i have a better idea after this point, C: I don't know how i feel about security members running around with a full face metal fish masks, maybe for unathi it would be the norm, but it would surely creep the hummies out, and as far as i know, human comfort still comes first around here. I suggest this becomes an accessory that you can attach to the regular sec helmet, this will: A: make it armored B: does it not create the issues that come with armored custom items C: only worn on code blue/when shit goes down.

[Accepted] DatBerry's Unathi Whitelist
DatBerry replied to DatBerry's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
already deleted the slot, would've happened sooner if anybody said anything at all. I think it might've not been so obvious, but the time gap was only a few hours of getting kicked and shamed by his clan, cleaning himself and then heading to the clean leader's rec room.
