  1. Kaed, if you look on github, you will notice that I did not write a single line of code for the update. I was just one of the people who reviewed the technical aspects of it. It is not my project. I am arguing for janitorial being part of engineering, because i as a player, want it to be part of engineering and believe that it fits better into engineering than into janitorial. Its two days after the update. And all I can see so far is the usual post update-revert topic that someone created because he didnt like what he saw after playing a few rounds. Wait a month or two and then we´ll see if there are actual issues. So far noone was able to bring up actual issues caused by the change.
  2. This argument is absolutely over the top. Using that same argument I can currently detain the chaplain and the HoP (as well as anyone else in service and cargo, because the HoP is also the head of cargo) for neglect of duty if the floors are dirty. Doesnt make sense either and it doesnt happen right now. I never argued that changing a lightbulb requires a "endless grasp of electronics". I was merely explaining to you the many different tasks that facility management covers, which include tasks that require almost no education such as mopping floors and changing lightblubs and other tasks that require some engineering understanding, but they are all part of the same department. Again, I have never said or dismissed your argument, because "it hurt my feelings". I dismissed it, because you failed to provide reasons that explain why the janitor can not be part of engineering. You have made various claims: And did not proof them in any way / back them up with proper reasons that are not recursions on itself. You have even contradicted yourself: First you say they focus on the big picture, then you claim that the maint techs are low-intensity jobs and are made somewhat redundant by the janitor.
  3. As explained many times before, the shuttle times, all prices, categories and the order of the items are config settings under the purview of the lore team. In addition the stuff that is planned for cargo is listed here: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/projects/5 Now onto some of the points raised: That is not true. CTRL+F searches the items in the currently selected category. I am not sure where you get these values from. The previous cargo system was not based on credits but on points that have nothing to do with the money in the cargo account so there cant be a percent comparison unless you pull values out of your ass. (If you divide two different units by each other you dont get percent as a result) Well, thats why cargo has these things called EFTPOS and the delivery apps on the tablets in their lockers. If you charge your customers for the items, then you wont run out of money. And if there is ever a reason why a head needs to order something that is not covered by their department, they can go to the HoP or captain and request extra funds. There´s 75.000 just sitting in the station account (in addition to the departmental funds). As mentioned at the top, there is a project on github that details whats still planned: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/projects/5 And finally, we have a cargo feedback thread, monitored by myself and a lore dev, which is used to update the github project and cargo config usually weekly (which slowed down due to IRL priorities in the last weeks). Therefore I am closing this here. -> Cargo Feedback thread for cargo feedback.
  4. I do not think that it would upset balance too much, as its based on size and distance. As shown in the OP, even if you are standing directly next to someone, you would not see that he put a emag into his pocket. Just that he put something into his pocket. If you are just one tile away, then you wouldn't see that they just slipped a emag into their pocket.
  5. To be honest, I dont see a reason why the janitor cant be moved to engineering. Most companies have a facility management department. This department is responsible for the upkeep of their facilities. That includes stuff like mopping down the floors, replacing lightbulbs when they break, refilling vending machines, rearranging / moving offices when needed and even plan expansions of company facilities as well as a shitload of other stuff (And yes, our emergency generators and UPS are also the responsibility of the facility department, aswell as HVAC and plumbing). And our facility manager has a (mechanical) engineering degree. From time to time he borrows me from IT when something needs to be done inhouse (either because its urgent or because we dont want to spend money to have a external company come over and do it for us) Some of the stuff that I have done for the facility management includes: Thats all stuff, the facility manager is responsible for, in addition to "mopping down floors and replacing lightblubs" (I also replaced lightbulbs when the person that normally does it was on vacation) And almost all of the stuff I listed above requires some sort of engineering knowledge. Most arguments that have been brought up so far are based on feelings and not facts. I have yet to see a solid reason why the janitor can not be part of engineering (facility management). Edit: I usually dont like to quote wikipedia, but it fits in here pretty well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facility_management#Role_of_the_facilities_manager
  6. This is simply not true as can be seen here: https://github.com/LordFowl/Aurora.3/blob/master/code/game/jobs/job/engineering.dm#L72
  7. Indeed, if it has no damage, then you can just use /me
  8. Supporting the vote for dismissal, as you already have the ability to do so. If something concrete is needed, contact the devs on discord with what exactly you would like to have changed.
  9. Supporting the dismissal for the above stated reasons.
  10. Devmerge was two hours ago.
  11. If this is implemented then it would need the following features: The ability to assign a name to a Radio-Hash (per user) -> So each user can name the radio hashes he knows. The option to persist that between rounds. Every other option would be utterly annoying, because you can not expect players to remember all these radio hashes and you can not expect them to reset the names every round. However, this comes at a price: All the hash to name lists would need to be loaded into the ram for each player on the server For each message that is transmitted, it would need to go through each players "hash to name" list and replace the hash with a name if it exists. I am not sure if that is worth the overhead.
  12. The first thing is planned. The second thing is already available via the control application And the user can already select what items he want in which crate by placing multiple orders. However there are certain limitations in place. You have to place a new order if: The container type is different -> You cant throw stuff that comes in a freezer together with stuff that comes in a crate or a box If the item is not group-able with other items -> For example only one goat fits into a box. If the container is full. -> Pretty straight forward why that is the case. There are some ideas around that might change these conditions in the future or the order workflow. But the earliest time they will be implemented is march.

  14. Voiced will be a bit of a difficulty since I only have a headset at home and not at the university. As explained in the initial post, I would start working on fleshing out the relations between NT and other megacorps. Which ones are working together one some projects, which are targeting the same markets with the same products, ... All in preparation for further updates that will lead down a corporate espionage path As I´ve worked in a corporate environment, I am familiar with decisions being made on another level for certain reasons. I would present the facts as good as I can, but ultimately if the loremaster or human lore dev decides to remove something. Its his call. Before something relevant goes live it should go through a approval process where all the relevant stakeholders can voice their opinion and put a stop to it. Assuming that relevant process has been followed prior to the alteration and the species lore dev just failed to respond in a timely manner, I would remind them of that fact and try to work with them to resolve the issue at hand. If they are still going to far, I will escalate it via the proper channels. Loremaster and if he is unavailable aswell then the headdev. But knowing the current staff team I cant think of a single person on the lore team that would require me to escalate it to their superior. Withdraw and wait for jackboot our you to become available. There is no point in a edit war / flame war on public channels. If there are heated debates about a subject they should be resolved internally. Present it on the lore dev channel for others to weigh in. Thats where the aforementioned process comes in. Every release / change should be discussed with the relevant personell. It´s always good to have more than one opinion on a specific topic. If the relevant member is not aware of it, alert them to it. (They should have the option to take a look at what has been said and then decide if they want to handle it or let mods/mins take care of it) If they are unavailable, alert the mods to it. (Rule 2 on the discord: Dont be a dick) Edit1: Since its almost midnight here and since I dont have much time right now there will be a few spelling mistakes included.
  15. Ckey/BYOND Username: Arrow768 Position Being Applied For: Deputy Lore Developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: Well, I was one of the wiki admins for our corporate wiki (used for technical system documentations and user documentations alike) until I´ve lead the migration to a different wiki that was easier to edit and had more features so I´d say I have a pretty decent mediawiki knowledge. Examples of Past Work: A few minor things that Jackboot asked me for, but I am not sure if anything came out of it. Aside of that I cant provide any public references since most of the docs I have worked on are contained in a internal corporate wiki. Additional Comments: Since I have a technical background, I try to write lore that is believable and makes sense with our known physical laws. My objective as lore deputy is to develop the corporate espionage side of our lore. Even today there is corporate espionage going on, so it would make much sense for it to also occur in 2460 especially with NT being the megacorp it is.
  16. Well, its another one of those suggestions that comes up regularly. I dont see that the need for a bridge secretary. If command staff wants one, they can appoint one. Regarding office: There is a spare office below the conference room. As command staff has already the ability to appoint one and a office already exists I am voting for dismissal.
  17. Well, this suggestion comes up every few months for different departments. (medical, security, engineering) I think a good comparison would be paramedics being called to a company because of an injury. Dispatch generally tells them (the company) to place a employee outside of the company to lead the way to the injured person. If they dont do that, then any rescue efforts will be delayed. If the AI is on top of things, then it can open the doors on its own. Medical could ask for someone to be positioned at the front doors to let the paramedic in, when he arrives. I do not think that is needed, as there are many ways of gaining access to a department already. (If there is an emergency, you could always smash in a window to get there) The only thing I could get behind is access to mining, due to the huge number of injuries we have there
  18. Reporting Personnel: Paul Jonson Rank of Reporting Personnel: Captain Game ID: bSd-deIM Personnel Involved: - Preston Prestoff, Shaft Miner (Victim) - Paul Jonson, Captain (Witness) - Joseph Birkin, RD (Witness) - Erick Silva, Officer (Witness) - Altai Al-Azir, Officer (Witness) - Jesse Armstrong, Detective (Witness) - Alexia Wilkinson (Offender) Time of Incident: Throughout the entire shift Real time: 21:00 to 23:00 GMT+1 Location of Incident: Telescience, Tcoms Nature of Incident: Accident/Injury Misconduct Other: Theft / Infiltration Overview of the Incident: About 15 minutes into the Shift Mr. Prestoff was screaming in distress. The AI could locate him in the tcoms storage area where he was being fired upon by lethal turrets. The AI could not disable the turrets or set them to stun as the turret control is firewalled. Therefore I made my way there to unlock the turrets and retrive Mr. Prestoff. At the time we assumed that Mr. Prestoff somehow managed to infiltrate tcoms for unknown reasons. Myself, Officer Al-Azir and Detective Armstrong entered tcoms to retrieve Mr. Prestoff. Moments after we arrived in the area a lab assistant appeared in the tcoms storage area. As we inquired what they were doing here they disappered. That was when it become clear that telescience was involved. I headed there and found the lab assistant and another scientist in the lab. When questioned who teleported the Shaft Miner into the area none of them spoke up at first. Eventually it became clear that Scientist Wilkinson teleported the shaft miner into the area for acquiring materials for research. I explained to them that it is extremely irresponsible to teleport someone into a unknown area without first verifying that the area is safe for a person to be in. In addition that teleporting personel into restricted areas is considered infiltration. They failed to understand that and only mentioned that they need these items for research and that the turrets killed the miner and they are not responsible for that. As they failed to ensure the safety of the personell involved in their experiment, they have been charged with manslaugther. In the hopes of them understanding the situation and performing further research responsibly the charges of infiltration and theft have been dropped. In addition the infiltration charge for the research assistant they teleported in afterwards have also been dropped as its the responsibility of the scientist operating the telepad to ensure the personell involved in the experient does not end up in a restricted area. RD Birkin arrived while Scientist Wilkinson was still serving her sentence for manslaugther. I informed him of the incident and requested that he either files a injunction to restrict her access to telescience or suspends her. The research director decided to go for suspension as Scientist Wilkinson threatened him and stole a hand teleporter. The RD handed me the scientists ID and the required suspension paperwork (which I accidently destroyed, assuming the slot in my console is a scanner. But unfortunately it was the slot to replanish the paper of the printer) Despite this Issue the suspension has been carried out, but I was unable to locate the Scientist. After about 20 minutes the RD alerted me to their presence in research. So I headed there to return their ID to them and have security detain them for theft (the stolen hand teleporter). They were again extremely dismissive and failed to recognize that they were not authorized to setup a security camera console they built and take various circut boards. As Security Officer Silva arrived to detain them and search them for additional contraband they teleported away and sparked a manhunt. When asked to turn herself in she just mentioned that "she teleported herself to a holiday resort" As the RD mentioned that the Telescience research was unauthrized her response was that "the RDs face is a unauthorized experiment" To prevent further misuse of the telescience lab, the RD was force to dismantle it. Scientist Wilkinson could not be located during the remainder of the shift. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: No IA Agent present Actions taken: Charged with Manslaugther. Talked to by the RD. Suspended.
  19. Since we track the security incidents people were involved with across rounds, we could also take that into consideration
  20. Please find the Incident Report filed by Leslie McAllister attached below. I could not address the incident report during the shift as I was only made aware of it minutes before the crew transfer shuttle has been announced. with best regards, Paul Jonson, Captain, NSS Aurora. Reporting Personnel: Leslie McAllister Rank of Reporting Personnel: Psychologist Game ID: bR8-dxh6 Personnel Involved: - Johnny Styles, Security Officer (Offender) - Vincent Burns, Security Officer (Offender) - Leslie McAllister, Psychologist (Victim) Time of Incident: Real time: 02:00 GMT+1 Location of Incident: Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property []Neglect of Duty [x]Harassment [x]Assault [x]Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: At about 04:08, I (Leslie McAllister) stepped into my office for a smoke break. Upon opening up my lighter to light a cigarette, the cologne I was covered in ignited, and I was lit on fire. The injuries sustained were minor, but they caused me a great deal of distress, along with damage to my office. Two members of the security team answered my distress call-- Johnny Styles, and Vincent Burns, both of which promptly arrived to the scene. After my injuries were treated, the two began interrogating me regarding the incident. Mr. Styles' first comment was about how funny it was that Mr. /Burns/ came to talk to a burn victim, which set the tone for the rest of my interaction with the two. Mr. Burns accused me of being dumb for catching fire, while Mr. Styles continued to accuse me of lying. This culminated in him lighting up a cigarette and throwing it at my chest in an attempt to validate that it was in fact, cologne. This of course did not ignite me, as the cologne had burned out and dissipated by the time I've rolled around on the floor and suffered these injuries. The two immediately began insulting me-- Mr. Burns referred to me as a "real shit liar", whilst Mr. Styles accused me of having no style. When informed that I'll be taking the issue to Command, Mr. Burns told me to take it up my ass. Aside from their open and unacceptable hostility, the two have shown a complete lack of proficiency in their occupation by not only failing to conduct a proper investigation, but by risking my life by throwing cigarettes at me. Actions taken: Command Staff has been informed, but the incident could not be addressed until shortly before the arrival of the crew transfer
  21. So the effect would be blocked vision + alarm ? Then it would be equal or even inferior to the current system, because if you hack a camera properly, you wont even trigger an alarm.
  22. Well, that is their fault then if they dont come and order it. If they dont take incentive to get the things they need, why should they get them ? If I run out of office materials at work, then I also have to go to the person that is responsible for ordering them and handing them out. I dont find a stack of clipboards, papers and pens on my desk every day I arrive at work. I have to be proactive and get them. Also, with the next update, almost every modular computer system will have the cargo order application, so it will be simpler to order items.
  23. At first this seems like a good idea, but adding all that would lead to less and less interactions between departments. It is one of our current goals to foster the inter-departmental cooperation. If you need any of these supplies, then go to cargo. Only adding a office storage closet to science because it is convenient is not really a valid argument. (You can argue for a lot of things to be added to the departments just because its convenient and would ultimately lead to the further separation of the departments.)
  24. And the incident where your character beat himself with a mop in the communal area of the brig ? Do you consider this proper roleplay ? Or shooting your superior when they demote you ?
