Make cameras glow when in use from security monitor or AI
Arrow768 replied to JKJudgeX's topic in Discontinued Projects
Isn´t there a traitor item (looking like a multitool) that changes the color when the AI is observing ? Making the cameras glow when someone is watching, is just too obvious. This is the thing with cameras, you dont know if someone is watching Have you ever seen a camera that "glows" when someone is monitoring it (I have not) The purpose of a camera is to: Act as a deterrent against crimes, because people know someone might be watching Solve crimes: Look at the recording (But we dont have that) This leaves you with a few options: Work around cameras: Do your stuff in areas that have no cameras (maint, ...) Disable them individually: Cut the camera without causing the alert to go off Use the traitor item to check if someone is monitoring Disable them network-wide: I am currently working on a project that has the "side effect" of being able to disable entire cam networks or all cams on the station. I could see a new traitor item being added that allows to jam cameras in a certain area But making cameras glow when monitored is not really a option imho. -
Since I have to rewrite all the record apps in the near future, I am wondering: Why not just use medical records and give the roboticist access to them ? It seems a bit redundant because you will only use medical or robot records, but never both. A access check could be added to the medical/robo records application to ensure medical can only access the records for the "meat-bag-side" of the crew and robotics only for the "bucket-side" of the crew. But this would still leave borgs out in the open because afaik they dont have a entry in the datacore. (But that could be added)

Sadly the above statement is completely true. Just a day ago we had a hostage situation in medbay where a nursing intern with a taser and a knive took a doctor hostage. Security heard the shots of the taser and was quickly at the scene. The officer just threw a flashbang and the hostage situation "has been dealt with" Well, the hostage died in the process and could not be cloned because cloning was not functional at the time. So yes, lets move flashbangs and gas grenades to the armory. I would even support changing the access on the "public" armory to access_armory so officers have to go through the warden or hos if they want something from there. But that is something for a different discussion.

No definitly not. Its just annoying. I´ve seen it on other servers. There are people with binds for *scream. And they will hit that as soon as they smell trouble. It´s just going to be abused.

I was playing the HoS this round. I do not see the point in your complaint. You were cought in a active crime scene. You immediately fled the scene and informed were to stop at the earliest convenience. Yes, I didnt have a hailer, but being chased by two security officers and being told to stop should be enough of a indication that you are wanted for something. And usually stop if you are innocent and have not done anything. You decided to continue to run, despite the clear attempts to capture you. We apprehended you in medbay. Since you have shown the clear intention to run away when the chance presents itself, I used my sidearm in stun mode with the ingame aiming mechanic to prevent you from running away further and ordered you to lay down on the floor. You then decided to ignore the big red message presented to you in the chat and instead of dropping down on the floor as ordered you went ahead and moved. If you choose to ignore the consequences of a gun being aimed at you, noone but yourself is to blame for that.

The now walk speed is faster then what used to be the run speed. This is why Nanako suggested to reduce the new base walk speed to what previously was the run speed. You can already reduce the "now-walk-speed" however you want. Check IC -> Adjust walk speed.

I just noticed the suggestion regarding the reports It should be fairly easy to be able to submit reports to a review board. Just add a special fax destination that saves everything faxed there to the db. Then the lore devs tasked with reviewing it, can look through the submitted reports in the wi and award research points based on them.

One Issue with that. Copyright.

According to my understanding the walkspeed is now faster than the old runspeed. I do not like this and the current walk speed should be reduced to the old runspeed (maximum) @Nikov. You can already reduce the walkspeed if you want.

Veto´d by the loremaster and administration. Binned.

Fax machines can be used to send stuff to centcom and solgov. This is the reason they are ID locked. Sending stuff to central or solgov is a responsibility that "Random Assistant" cant be trusted with. If you want to send stuff on the station, use the request consoles.

Again. Alot of fun comes from experimenting with stuff and discussing with fellow scientists what it is, how it works then naming it and maybe writing a report on it. Exactly what you want to dictate to the players.
-
We had this discussion just a day ago in the staff discord. As far as I am aware Jackboot did not want to provide a specific description of everything we have. As much of the fun comes from experimenting and finding it out on your own. Giving it a name, Finding out what it does, ... much of that just goes away when we explain everything for the players and tell them what is what and how it works.

Give security basic department access to science, medical, etc
Arrow768 replied to Filthyfrankster's topic in Archive
This gets brought up every so often. Last time I can remember was for medical nearly 3 months ago right here: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6560&p=65073 What makes this different ? Exactly Nothing If you need to get in somewhere because its an emergency then you can: Ask the AI Ask a Borg Ask the Head of that department Ask someone in that department Smash in a window -
I think Alberyks idea should be expanded to print out a message in the admin log if a AI has disconnected and then again after 15min or so. That reminds the staff online that there is a AI that is disconnected, afk or inactive and they can do something about it. I prefer this solution, because it allows AI players to go AFK / inactive (with ahelping beforehand) for a reasonable time and they dont have to fear that they have been forced out of their slot by a automatic system in the meanwhile.

I like the idea, but most of it is already possible in some way Its already possible to remove symptoms from a virus. and combine them into a new one. It is already possible to store viruses and symptoms. You just dont have a machine that holds them in once place. What would you like to have added? Already possible by using the "waiting" symptom. It could be beneficial to have a button on one of the machines that replaces a specific stage with the waiting/nothing symptom Could be added as a random event

Broken Rig-Suits that need to be repaired before they can be used ?
-
This will just lead to more and more people applying for ccia to "get just another whitelist" but have no or litte interest in actually doing what ccia should do: Handle incident reports
-
I cant say that I would support this for balance reasons. Removing the backpack is just the tradeoff you have to accept for getting all the benefits the CE voidsuit provides. (And that despite as much as I would like to have it)
-
I prefer the options that involve other people * Surgical Removal * Removal with acid

Yup that was one of the amazing moments. -
Since we are changing from redsec to bluesec we should add some posters featuring bluesec. I would like to see the following: A typical security employee in their gear each with a specific subtitle Employee on Poster ; Subtitle Officer ; Blue Security - The better alternative HoS ; Blue Security - Fast, Friendly, Professional Warden ; Blue Security - Providing security since 2458 Officer in Space wearing a Space Suit ; Blue Security - Providing security, wherever its needed Officer in Tactical Gear ; Blue Security - Ready for everything Suggestions, Changes and Additions are welcome

Scuba Divers during night dives are facing the same problem. There is a very simple solution to that. You use your lightsource and point it at your hand so the other one can see it, then "talk in sign language" Since everyone aboard the station has a PDA, it would be sensible to assume they just to that. (Why in hell would you choose to gesture around in the darkness if you have a light source that can be used to illuminate your hands) I would rather add a check if someone has a light source on them and if they do enable it for a brief moment when that person is saying something in sign language
