1. We DID do this already, it, funnily enough, had the opposite effect. Detectives started acting like security officers since they had rubbers meaning they had less-than-lethal which equaled in them firing twice as often and using it as basically a taser. Not gonna upvote or downvote this, but I doubt it'll get accepted.
2. I think the posts in this thread explained everything about yourself and your characters better than I ever could.
3. I didn't perform a gotcha, I implied you're one of those characters.
4. History is a myth, the fall of Rome wasn't caused by a single event it was caused over centuries. Sure it was a big event that caused massive waves but that event was built up to, similarly how Mixed Secret caused big waves but it was led to by players complaining about stale rounds, inactive antags and extended being too boring. The best part? Right now if I check the ckey of everyone on the server I am 100% confident at least 15 out of those 25 people played when people in this thread played too, the difference was they were complete randoms who were trying their heart out to fit these made up criteria and jump through these artificial hoops the previous generations setup for them. Pity-partying in threads about this is pointless, it's a collective result of everyone's influence be it direct or indirect. Times like these remind me of my favorite poem: Inaction is as influential as action, those who leave cannot be blamed for leaving but they can't be surprised if they don't come back on the same server. Similarly there is a lot of suggestions in the forum that nobody has commented on, a lot of answers in discord nobody talked about, plenty of ahelps that were never sent and an infinite amount of IR's that "I didn't want to bother with." tl;dr this whole thread
5. There is no culture switch, that's a myth, server culture moves at a very slow pace but you took a break long enough from the game to not notice or influence it. People can always stop or influence a slow gradual culture shift. Also, not everyone is guilty of the above, plenty of people didn't complain about those things but they were a minority back then and nobody really listened to them. As Burger said some occupations aren't as suited for certain things, that's how the game works and always worked. Security is going to get more antag fuckery while a miner is going to have longer-quieter interactions with other miners. Such is the nature of those roles. Also, consider the following:
6. The shift is fault of the older generation. Every single issue people have named can be traced to the oldguard complaints. Take a drink each time you heard the following pre-2017: "People aren't doing their job and instead ERPing in a closet somewhere." = People started doing their jobs instead of constantly taking RP breaks. "Mechanics are roleplay." = RP jobs such as chaplain, chef, bartender and psychologist got a mechanical rework. "Miners don't give me materials and just sit in a bar all day." = Science and Miners now live in equilibrium, balanced, as all things should be. "Security patrols too much." = Security now sits in their lobby, trains in the holodeck or shoots at dummies waiting until an antag happens. "Apprentices are way over-skilled for their level of training, they should be less skilled." = People rarely remain as an apprentice for longer than a week. "X job has nothing to do." = See point 2 "X character with Y disability shouldn't be on the station, that's not realistic." = We set up guidelines for them, vast forum, server, and overall staff majority agreed on this. "Extended is boring and gameplay is stale we need more gamemodes." = We added mixed "The station is too small I can barely fit with the players." = Main level is about the size of Old Exodus, the two other levels are barely used. "Ling is a bad gamemode for HRP." = Ling is still bad game mode for HRP nothing has changed please kills this cancer garn is stupid for defending it. About now you should recover from the alcoholic coma you just entered, the fact is people, developers and administrators have responded exactly to the issues ye olde players raised and everyone assimilated them passively, it wasn't a sudden snap and everyone changed. The simple fact is jobs got actual mechanics so people are now playing them, antags have gotten more subtle since people wanted that so now there is general less chaos, people hated how quickly others jumped on revolution gimmicks so now people double-take everything. The boomer generation is blaming the millennials for doing exactly the situation the boomers setup, it's poetic really.
7. ?? BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP
8. Alright, thank you for clearing that up good luck with the application.
9. Fair, happens to everyone at least once. It doesn't take long to identify what you like to write about, which you did correct but this raises a slight bit of concern in me. Now I'm not a fan of transhumanistic writing myself so I won't critique it from the standpoint of the concept itself, the writing wasn't bad and I think the general history was pretty well done. On this next subject some people will disagree but recently I've hard concerns with people coming into the lore writers with a certain agenda/faction/thing in mind they really just want to insert, develop however to me it seemed like they weren't actually interested in working on the species but using the species to work on their, thing. If I were to assume I'd say you wrote into your strengths right now in this application but it still raises a concern, would you continue working with Unathi if a theoretical evil twin of Jackboot was to simply deny everything you proposed here and told you that it's not the direction he wants the Unathi to take? Basically, I'm asking how good of a writer are you at things that support the core of the species but not the core of the ideology you like? Note saying "Not very good" is not a negative answer for me, I have plenty of thing about Tajara lore I don't write about simply because I would misrepresent them, but I'd like to know your, let's say range, your writing range let's call it that.
10. Alright, I'm guessing it was expected that someone asks this so I'll begin. Banned for what exactly?
11. Oh wow, thanks, guys. Actually, this is about my only story here that I wouldn't change thematically looking back at it, just repair it grammatically, which I think I'll do right now actually. But thanks, means a lot.
12. Accepted with caviar. Locking and Archiving.
13. Jackboot accepted over discord, so accepted and archiving.
14. That's much better, it supports raiding however it also suggests that Vox isn't just going to go in guns blazing but rather only take out people who give them difficulties in taking what they really should have owned in the first place.
15. I'll break it down. There is feedback here already, there were a few IR's made against Price already, you were talked to quite often about bad security play with Price, you have multiple notes on this. You created a second character to essentially say fuck you to the CCIA, that was either due to two things. 1) You thought the decision Price made was never wrong in the first place. 2) You thought the decision was too harsh for the mistake Price made. You have returned after 4 months, played about 20 rounds (judging from your WI record) and then immediately applied with a character that started this whole mess. Then you say in here that in your eyes there was nothing else wrong besides the double-character with Price and he's been a fine command. Taking in feedback and accepting it is a big part of being in command and this is why I (cannot speak for the entire team), do not believe you should get a command whitelist at this time. This is my explanation.
16. Okay, serious question, why did you apply with the same character that got you essentially command banned? The whole contentious point was that Price was not a good head which is what you got an injunction for in the first place, what you refused to acknowledge and what you made the new character for, which ultimately lead to your ban. So why would you apply with the same character? This bedazzles my mind, either you're going to rework him completely from the ground up and admit that he was a bad command character at which point why apply with him in the first place. Or the alternative is that you don't plan on changing anything and just think ONLY the fact you made the character double was the problem? That wasn't the only problem, it all stemmed from the fact you refused to undergo a punishment for your bad character and in that sense, you completely denied that you did anything wrong in the first place. Thus we are very curious about why you think we should give you a whitelist.
17. Oh yeah, I forgot to ping or quote you. Adrae
18. I think it adds a good amount of information, some is extranious but there is good enough "fluff" around it to prop it. One thing I really dislike is the sudden resurgance of race politics from herr fuhrer Adolf Primalis. To me as an outside observer it doesn't fit the overall image you're trying to paint of the Vox, which I assume is akin to "Lost survivors". You don't yourself seem to have a good reason to explain it other than "well you can feel superior", but I feel like it can be done much better. To me I think their raiding reason should be more like "Stealing honey from bees" rather then "Kikah get the luger", either way I think that is the weakest part of it and you should either outright scrap it or re-do it. Senpai Jackboot since there is no race-manager for Vox this is technically JB's thing as an overall lore-person.
19. I'll read over this tomorrow since it's late but the clans were retconned like a few weeks ago just an FYI
20. Because it's like establishing that guacamole is now spelled guacamoule. I don't see a reason why this NEEDS to be canonized, what bridge this gaps, what this establishes. It doesn't really explain why some vendors have secret or even illegal merchandise, why every vendor is designed differently externally instead of being a carbon copy with a re-paint. It's information so extranious it doesn't even have a place to be writen in besides the IC library and any lore developer can tell you "yeah sure it's canon" on discord and it'll bear as much relevance as me writing it here. Application denied.
21. So if I were to ask you, what in your opinion makes your lore better than what is currently on the wiki about the Vox and spacecraft/corti stacks etc.? Not meant as a callout mind you, I'm just trying to think what you disliked about the Vox lore to want to replace/rework it? Adrae
22. Actually this might suprise you, cult, wizards, vampries and Nar'sie are indeed canon. Just the rounds they happen in, are not. Don't worry about my rank, you can argue with me about whatever you want, I'm no more educated on vending machine lore than you but what I'd like to see is something more than just "yeah X works like Y now" but rather a bigger explanation. For example if this application came with some lore for all the food vendor corporations that I could refer to Zundy, that would just be top, but otherwise this is too barebones to declare boldly "canon" because small things like this CAN get in our way when we're making lore for the future and there is always the danger that we change it without really informing people because we simply forget about these very small things because there would be WAY TOO MUCH to remember. Sadly Schrodigers lore is simply a difference in opinion and how it functions mostly right now because even small things like that can be potential traps to write ourselves into a corner at which point we might actually just change it because we need to, which puts into question why it was established in the first place. Regarding the books, well, technically BadKitty and ScalesNStuff people consider real even though they're technically just player made books, so really it's canon as long as enough people go along with it. So either I'll need this suggestion to be made CHONKIER or have a better reason to make a specific book detailing this.
23. If we want to go down that thought line, coke machines are branded by coke, pepsi and other food production companies however usually a different company that actually manufactures it while the food company itself owns it. However if we want to go down that line of thinking, why would NT dedicate an entire branch or facility to make food vendors when they were a genetic company branching out into engine creationg, phoron reasearch and phoron mining. Again it's not a bad application and the idea itself has only small technical problems that are honestly easily shrugged away just as we shrug the game issues away each day. However what would be much better is if someone had created an explanation for all of our food companies and included that in there. It seems like something that would get either ignored or changed at the next sight of it being in the way right now, so I'm not prone to accepting it but not denying it. I'd say it's like Schrodigers cat, whatever explanation whatever character has for the vendors is correct and I think that's a good way to have it to explore what characters can think of in regards to explaining why the code is fucky. Similarly like every character has a different explanation on how positronics work, where golems come from, how slimes work, how carps survive etc. Like gravity IRL, we know it exists and what it does but we're not exactly sure what it is exactly. You can write a book yourself frankly and nobody can really stop you from adding it to the library. Hell you can even write it as a 3rd party and not your character using the Aurora-WI and Library function.
24. Well it's the same because the people who made it were fucking lazy per the usual developer discipline of SS13. oops accidentally pressed the submit button. What I wanted to add was, you can have this canon in your head however it's going to be as valid as any other theory since it can't really be "logged" anywhere. Most likely it'll be forgoten in a few weeks, this is why I don't really see the purpose of making an explanation for something this simple when I think it's much funnier and simpler to have people make up their own theories for why this doesn't work.
