  5. I believe that majorly nerfing stationbounds' tools is in order to resolve the problem of them invalidating actual character slots. That's the only viable solution I am seeing here.
  6. They are staff complaints. They are used to lodge direct challenges to individual or team-based staff decisions. That is all they are there for. Seeking to do anything else with a staff complaint, by definition, would get the thread closed, because it wouldn't fulfill the usual purpose for a staff complaint. Rewording it isn't going to help anything. There is already a sentiment that those on the moderation/administration staff hold more immediate power, authority and presence than most anyone else in the community, on account of their affiliations with the rest of staff. In most cases, staff do not make actions counter to the general consensus of their other staffmembers, as that is what they are there for. They commonly give advisement to each other on what would be the best way to resolve a particular situation. Meanwhile you also have senior staff that have been around for awhile and thus have dealt with almost every type of different situation, and are therefore more difficult to challenge because they can far more easily argue their case through experience than someone who has only been punished once but wishes to dispute whether they should have been disciplined by staff at all. It's not easy to overturn most staff decisions without being incredibly and annoyingly persistent, as well as lucky enough to have enough sympathy for something to be overturned. I get this implicit reading from not only this thread but occasionally from other people that there should be more staff complaints in our current age in terms of an on-average rate. You do not want that. That was a thing back in the mid to late 2010s, and it was absolutely horrible both on the staff side and player side. It was just one cabal against another and it would be a different one every other occasion. That we have less staff complaints overall is more of a good thing than a bad thing. A major thing that would resolve people's problems with specific staffmembers would be just to talk to them, mano-a-mano (or some other inclusive language of your choice). Discuss the issue rationally with them and remove your feelings from it, and you'll both come away with a better understanding of the problem -- the player especially, so they can understand how better to avoid being disciplined again by staff. Staff in many ways are already hamstrung by the existence of their peers as well as an ever-observant community. But this is a good thing, since unfair permabans do not just come flying out like they would from staff on other servers where there exists little oversight or accountability for them.

  8. Keeping them down in ops doesn't really make any sense to me, so I second this.
  9. I don't support this. This is a community, you need to ingratiate yourself with it on some level to gain trust sufficient enough to be granted the privilege of a whitelist.
  10. I am led to believe random gun is more problematic to game pacing than anything else, and its really only more prevalent on rev where it literally just is *PULLS GUN OUT OF ASS* type of gameplay.
  11. Having bore witness to your in-character and out-of-character behavior, I would not recommend this person for staff, it would not end so well even with a trial in giving them a chance. From my perspective, someone would need to be active in a server's community for 3 months minimum and anything prior to that minimum would require being exceptional in every way even then to qualify as moderation/admin staff. For the brief time you have been here I have seen no evidence that would suggest you would be a good candidate for server staff.
  12. Pushing pause on my working on this until something related to a current situation I'm dealing with atm resolves itself.
  13. I'd prefer in the future if we avoid Sol Marines or their equivalent in events for awhile. This was not a bad arc necessarily but I hope we don't actually visit anywhere remotely related to the Wildlands for a bit, considering how grating being involved in HoI4-like foreign politics has been for awhile.
  14. My first project returning to freelance development will be trying to add more activities that can be directly taken advantage of for those playing off-duty or otherwise playing a normal job role but has an opportunity within the course of their shift to simply take a break and unwind. A spaceman should ideally not have to be dependent on the cook or a bartender/barista to get some interaction and exist in a gathering space. Before anyone posts their ideas, keep in mind a few guidelines. 1. The activity in question cannot be used to somehow gain a mechanical or economic advantage to the wider ship. So even if the idea is to rework gambling to be more interesting, the investment/return should be neutral or worse. 2. The activity cannot be too complex for even an experienced developer to take on as a project alone. 3. The activity shouldn't resemble something you can't already do for shipside already.
Rollercoaster of an emotional event. It went way off course of what the team running it expected, but it was one of the rounds of all time.
  15. Lore Impact: Medium/Large. Species: General Short Description: Renames the Republic of Biesel to the New Republic of Tau Ceti. How will this be reflected on-station?: The RoB isn't really a single-system Republic anymore, having essentially annexed anywhere between a few to several former Alliance worlds into the fold. Renaming the Republic accordingly to the format that several other nations within the lore already abide by. Elsewise the Solarian Alliance should just be the Earth Alliance instead, the Jargon Federation should be the Qerr'balak Federation, etc. This would also serve for potential development of the NR beyond its dinky little capital world and allows the faction to become far more ambitious than possibly imagined from a short-term perspective. As it stands, the Republic of Biesel by name cannot be taken as very seriously as the other factions. This also lets the Biesel accent maintain itself as a specific planetary accent rather than something eminently as generic as the Alliance accent. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: No. Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team?: Yes. Long Description: Reformed by national charter and an update to their national constitution that enshrines the rights of any species to live and work in the realm of Tau Ceti as they see fit (simply code for having a little worker exploitation, as a treat), the New Republic proclaims a grander vision and a stronger agenda than it has ever held before. Motivated by the opportunity created by the splitting of the Solarian warlord territories, Tau Ceti Republicans find themselves in a politically stronger position, and with the Foreign Legion and many corporate favors directly at their disposal, this open wound created by the disaster of the Alliance's downfall has rallied Tau Ceti politics to further expand trade on the opposing end of the Republic's borders towards its economic partners, and a military build-up against its timeless rival: Whatever remains of the former Alliance, whomever currently leads them. This has created an overwhelming new support for the current regime of the New Republic -- as many aspects of the New Republic's current agenda appeal to progressives this also alienates some with the hawkish stance that the new governing document takes against "non-democratic oppressors", and "ideological adversaries". A not-insubstantial number of Tau Ceti citizens seem to support further escalation of antagonism with the Alliance and other instigators against the agenda of the New Republic's desire to seize resources, enrich its citizens (often interpreted as to say *only* its citizens at the expense of others), and usher in an era of prosperity and trade never seen before in any other nation. It is extremely clear via the most outspoken political figureheads of this agenda that they wish this idealized version of the home country to overshadow the golden age legacy of the Alliance during its best years. But with an energy crisis and multi-national tensions as high as they've ever been, only one can speculate where this will go...
  16. Hi. As the person who indeed retaliated against you roughly 5 years ago as a former staff member, I would like it stated for the record that while it was a very poor call of judgement to do as I did that long ago, I fail to see the purpose in invoking that specific situation and drawing it directly to what has been (rather sloppily) described by you in this thread. It is not retaliation for another staffmember to punish you for misconduct against another staff member or against the staff as a whole unit. It strikes me as very bizarre to be drawing a comparison between the actions from myself very long ago and then drawing a parallel to the rather-mild-by-comparison and otherwise very justified reaction Alberyk has responded to you with in turn. I also do not appreciate you essentially committing drama necromancy to recite the vendetta I once had against you to fuel your vendetta against Alberyk. I really think you should just let this go, it really is not healthy. Edit: For clarification, I am involved with which that complaint was apparently cited, since I did a dumb as a staffmember a long time ago, and it is being cited here for some reason. I do not really know why the real reason that is, but I am otherwise establishing context in my role in that, since I do remember it relatively well.
  17. Yeah, I really wish there was intent for a project to flip the ship to actually face true north.
  18. green grom text spotted I support renaming the decks non-numerically.
  19. I do think marooning should essentially be considered the equivalent of capital punishment. Not in a "literally illegal" sense but moreso that it should be an absolute last resort. But frankly, lings, technomancers and other wacky antagonists are excluded from this rule. If the antag is at least funny/entertaining to engage with they shouldn't be marooned. Marooning should be an OOC device to literally banish a character from a wider roleplay locale.
  20. 30-35% would be completely fine.
  21. if there were another slot open i would endorse you as well. mostly of the opinion you dont need to be staff to be a lore helper, and otherwise contribute good ideas/participate in events, but it helps to have someone established in staff positions that can push the needle a lot further than just a community volunteer. considering matt is also applying for this position, that's primarily why i endorsed him first, because he's already a very active staffer and can bring that same level of being able to exercise staff privilege to properly push out reform and changes encouraging you to stick around regardless because it has not gone unnoticed how much you've personally done to contribute human lore content and help make events extremely fun
