As long as it’s covered in directive 4 and counts as the science department that counts.
-
Tbh I like this idea too. Make it some kind of outreach area- a place for entertainment and relaxation but also a place for science to show off their projects to the general crew if they want.

Command staff already has that authority.
-
To answer the questions about authority, clearly the HoS’s orders would have precedence over the other heads of staff in regards to the officers. I think this would be awesome for the HoS role, making them even more of a tactician in role- deciding which departments to pull and add security to. If we left brig officers and a warden/detective/ft, the brig issue is solved. I think this will be awesome.

Campinkiller has done really well lately as one of our most reliable regular security players. He’s admitted for months that Marc pryce was a huge mistake, and has shown considerable growth since making that decision. And even before that, he was usually a pretty solid member of command. We all have bad weeks, bad months sometimes, even. Even as an antag, Caruso has done an excellent job in security, driving the round in a realistic, reasonable, and generally enjoyable way. I absolutely want to see how campinkiller does as HoS after these months of reflection and growth. +1

Medical Supervised Living Center (And Physical Traumas)
Resilynn replied to a topic in Completed Projects
I love the mapping. I’m honestly in favor of adding physical trauma, especially if it replaces things like narcolepsy. -
Sure, but maybe to balance it a bit the stomach pump could work like calomel, where it works but it does a decent amount of toxin damage that has to be carefully monitored.

Zane Miller, that New INTERN
Resilynn replied to LordPwner's topic in Character and Concept Feedback
I always love residents. Monkey training is the highlight of my rounds. -
Calanthia Basinger Feedback
Resilynn replied to SatinsPristOTD's topic in Character and Concept Feedback
I’m still unclear as to why Basinger thinks my CMO is super unloyal to the company. They met on a rev round. Why have attitudes from a non canon antag round carried over past that round? Other than that, I’m not sure. You could probably communicate with the crew more during crises, but she’s mostly an average, acceptable captain. -
StationCrab's IPC Application. [Accepted]
Resilynn replied to StationCrab's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
PATCH has been a pretty fun beep boop to hang around these days. I've seen him in a few malf rounds and he's really good about roleplaying things out instead of just, y'know, bolting and shocking the doors, pulling out the circular saw. I think he's got this. +1 -
[Resolved] Staff Complaint - QueenOfYugoslavia
Resilynn replied to Bath Salts Addict's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I don’t see how crew members who betrayed the company, armed up, and defected with raiders and mercs who robbed the station blind in ways command and security could do nothing about (I was command, we agreed we were utterly helpless) could possibly be considered as innocent bystanders. I think BSA was perfectly justified. How is he expected to oocly know one red suited traitor from another? He ahelped and was given permission to bomb the shuttle, he bombed the shuttle. He shouldn’t be punished for doing something he had permission to do just because people he had no control over also hopped on. From the command perspective? Noir saved the day. He saved company assets we had no other way to save. And he did so after plenty of escalation and with plenty of interaction AND with admin permission. -
Note: I should have sent this in when Zundy was running things, because we talked about it, I just took forever to write it all out. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Settlement Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): 2259 (or thereabouts) Region of Space: Mars, Sol Controlled by (if not a faction): Sol Alliance Other Snapshot information: A popular tourist spot amongst Martians, the Argyre crater is largely used for farming. At its center, Lake Agyre, which is aggressively treated to be relatively safe (compared to most Martian bodies of water) to swim in. As a result, Lake Argyre and it's little town (also called Argyre) serves as an immensely popular location for Martians and is the closest thing Mars has to a beach town. Very few people make this their permanent residence, as costs are prohibitive, but a vast majority of homes in the town are booked out as vacation homes and timeshares. Long Description: Population, 50,000. Northeast of Olympia, the town of Argyre rests in the Argyre basin, which has been terraformed to support the agriculture that feeds Olympia. The town itself sits at the center of the basic, on the west shore of Lake Argyre. Extensive efforts have been made to keep the lake water safe, as it is a popular vacation/beach spot for the residents of Olympia. Residents still know not to spend too much time in the water and to take a thorough shower afterward, as the acidity of the lake is still relatively high. The town's actual population is small, but it increases tenfold during peak tourist season. Fish are introduced to the water for game, but tend not to live for very long.

[Implemented] On Security Transparency During Crises
Resilynn replied to Kaed's topic in Accepted/Implemented Policy
Wholeheartedly agreed. I've been arrested in rounds before for informing the crew about mercs kidnapping people, some protection would be... nice. -
It really was one of the best malf rounds I’ve ever played. You did fantastic with pacing, the lore was neat, you didn’t resort to bombs and shocked doors. It was wonderful, really. The RD spent most of the round dismissing your gimmick and telling people to get back to work, printing out good weapons to kill you, etc, and what impresses me most is that you largely ignored her and let the round progress for everyone else. You did well enough that 5 people, caught up in the tension and fear, committed mass suicide, which honestly says a lot. You psychologically devastated the crew. This round was absolutely a testiment to what can happen if players let themselves get into a gimmick.

[Accepted] SeniorScore's Command Application
Resilynn replied to SeniorScore's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
SeniorScore's RP has been great. He's a long term member of this server who has contributed a ton and organized several impressive IC events over the relay, he's a ton of fun. That being said, I have to... agree I have some hesitation reading all of this. When I saw his application, I figured I wouldn't even bother +1ing it, seniorscore is a no brainer! When I dropped by to read it, well. I'm honestly surprised by this general tone. It's possible I'm misreading, tone is easily lost over text, but I can certainly see where the hesitation from players who aren't familiar with seniorscore (those who've been playing for only a few months) is coming from. If all I knew about you was from this post, I would have serious concerns, too. That being said, I have 2 years of experience that lead me to believe you'd be an excellent head of staff. You're a chill dude (this thread and what I just saw in server OOC excluded, if I'm being perfectly honest), you're mechanically experienced, you're an excellent RPer, and you have shown time after time that you can go out of your way to make rounds and interactions more interesting. So it's.... a hesitant and confused +1 from me. -
[Resolved] Player complaint - LordRaven001
Resilynn replied to ZetaGundumb's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Hi! Weighing in as the only member of command that round. I don't take issue with raven not telling me things. He said that he kept a lot from me that round and while, sure, ICly, that's not very by the books, it was entirely IC and made sense. I do have issues with a general playstyle of exclusion. I made that announcement for a very specific reason (and you'll note, did not mention the murder case). Security and command, I believe, have an obligation to allow the rest of the crew to participate in rounds. That can just mean updating them, just giving their characters the ability to go 'oh shit, a thing is happening! How does my chef respond, do they worry, do they cook a bunch of comfort food'-'. There are ways to do subversion without sacrificing participation, for example, making false leads very public. I've seen a few HoS's do this and it works wonderfully, it allows people to get more invested. Nothing annoys me more than security and command deciding the best way to handle an antag is to make sure the crew knows absolutely nothing about the conflict. Moreover, and let me emphasize how incredibly strongly I believe this, learning roles are not a label we slap onto people to identify them as useless. Deciding a cadet, or a lab assistant, or a medical resident, etc. is useless and giving them nothing to do as a result is problematic for a few reasons. Primarily, they take those roles to learn and you're preventing them from learning anything. I ask my residents every round what they're interested in learning and tailor specific training around their requests to get them ready to play a doctor. I'm not saying you have to go that far, you're not a head of staff, but don't actively exclude them. All you're accomplishing is setting a precedent where people who want to learn will realize they can't learn by taking learning roles. If you take cadet and get told nothing concerns you, you're going to start taking officer so you can learn, and then we get issues with departments full of people who have no idea what they're doing and a ton of responsibility, with no IC reason to not have the skills demanded of them. This is how we get surgeons who accidentally decapitate people and security officers to instantly stun baton nonviolent criminals. If you are going to present yourself as a leader in rounds like this, which I have absolutely no issue with, you need to act like a leader, and frankly, that comes with OOC responsibilities. There is a reason the whitelist apps ask about OOC responsibilities. You can be a problematic leader ICly, obviously. You can be an asshole, you can be frustrating to work with and annoying, you can be incompetent, and all those IC things, but you can't steal round participation from people, which I see as an OOC issue. I'm not sure I see any of your playstyle in this instance as rule breaking, but I encourage you to think about the kind of server culture you are perpetuating if you are forcing people out of those learning roles. -
I want to address this point, too, before this gets resolved. "I also feel as if I'm being treated as lesser because I am a "young" player. I am by no means young. I am 17. In a little more than half a year, I will be 18. I feel as if I'm being treated like a child, instead of an adult, as I should be. This isn't the first time she's said something like that to me, either." @Rosetango I'm not insulting you for being young. All I've done is excuse the things that annoyed me: mostly, getting loudly involved and abrasive on the radio frequently, because you are young. I've said, over and over again, I don't like this, but it's okay because you're improving. I haven't called you stupid for being young. Or less important. Or less valid. I've just said you're learning, and, repeatedly, improving. And I understand that this can come across as condescending, I don't mean it to be. Keep in mind, my entire profession revolves around understanding exactly where a 17 year old is in development (brain development doesn't stop until the late 20s, I'm not fully developed either). When I've said you're young, I've never meant it as a synonym for stupid or worthless. I've meant it as, again, you have room to learn and you will learn. You've said yourself, multiple times, that you're learning and trying to improve. And you will improve. And yes, I should have worded this better in the past. And I should have made sure you knew I didn't mean it as an insult, and I absolutely see how you could have read it as "fuck you your brain isn't developed all the way yet move along", which would be utterly shitty if that's how I'd meant it.

Alb’s character’s background absolutely justifies this playstyle, and I frankly enjoy the kind of weapons he chooses, it all fits in very well with lore. I have never seen him form a militia when we had an HoS or functional security team. From the command perspective, I love when Alb does this because my character does NOT have that kind of background and absolutely can’t lead anyone into combat. My character hates it because his response to an emergency is to try to play by the book as much as he can, keeping his department organized, but OoCly, I love it. I only see it happen when I already have most of security dead in my lobby. From the perspective of a civ player, whenever Alb does this I get to actually participate in conflict for once, in a reasonable, chaotic, realistic little lynch mob. He involves the whole crew, which is what I love about it. It is unrealistic RP to expect a former military leader to not try to save the he lives of his crew and prosperity of his station because it’s not explicitly in his job description. It is unrealistic to expect nonsecurity crew to just lay down and accept death if their mall cops have died. I agree that this would be powergaming if he swooped in with lawgivers and homemade grenades, but he’s using shit guns from cargo, which he has every reason to be familiar with. The emphasis we put on not taking another persons job is for standard operating procedure, not red alert when security is dead. It’s bad rp, in my opinion, for non-security to NOT do anything when they’re fearing for their lives. In a fight or flight situation, flight only goes so far when you’re on a tiny asteroid station in the void with no reliable way off.

In fact you explicitly asked me to message you over OOC when I sent those discord DMs you've shared.
-
I'll elaborate. I do not have to like you, I have to be cordial to you. Which I am. You frequently insist people give you feedback, but you complain when I give you feedback. Fernando is a character. Sukhoi called you over assuming you were a janitor, Fernando made a comment about where's your mop. How is this some kind of horrible harassment? Your character says he killed people over comms because he was too busy in surgery to respond to an emergency, he calls you an idiot and points out you're a janitor. That is not harassment. He is classist and arrogant. He believes he is better than pretty much everyone. That is the character. Playing a dick is not against the rules. Not OOCly liking someone is not against the rules, and if you are so desperate for me to like you, things like this aren't helping. I already explained that my gimmick was established well before I killed you, and have explained how killing you fit into that gimmick. If you're not upset I murdered you, why are you claiming you're mad I tried to 'permanently keep you out of the round' by murdering you. I also explained, again, in those private DMs, that I would have preferred not interacting with you at all, but the gimmick demanded I do and I had no IC reason not to, so, to avoid metagaming, I did in a way that made sense for the character and gimmick. Two people who I attacked in game and one person who saw a tiny bit of the attack said they weren't big fans of the gimmick. Multiple people have told me they liked it and asked if they could borrow it since this complaint went up. Garn has said the gimmick isn't murderboning. So, yes, I intend to do it again.
-
I fully intend to do this gimmick again.

It’s true, when I antag there are people I try to avoid because they have a consistent history of poor interaction and I’d rather get to do my gimmick with everyone else- for example, there are captains I won’t make certain rev gimmicks when they’re working because I know they’ll immediately question the announcement and wait an hour for a fax to do anything. There are characters I won’t try to blackmail because every time I have they go ‘no you’ and it doesn’t go anywhere. I think this is normal. I won’t go out of my way to kill someone because I ooc dislike them. I won’t go out of my way to not involve them, clearly, since I did involve rosetango because the way the round went meant I had IC reason to. But absolutely when I’m picking 2 people off a manifest that I think are going to be good first targets for something like this, I’m going to avoid people who have a consistent history of not working well with gimmicks like this. i also want to note, rosetango is claiming I metagrudged by killing her, you’re claiming I metagrudged by not making her my first target to kill. These can’t both be true.
