  1. Right. Apologies for the gargantuan wait on this. This is fine enough, application accepted.
  2. Apologies for the massive ass wait on this, I pin it on the fact that I had taken a break from lore duties just after it was posted, and after said break got consumed in other things. As for now, though, I do need to know -- do you intend to apply with the backstory present on the application, or will you post said anomalist for my own review? I'd appreciate putting it here if you could.
  3. R&D's basic levelling system is highly confusing to new players and serves.... ultimately no purpose. The R&D list I've made can get R&D done in 11 minutes. A person who takes the most miniscule effort to deconstruct circuits in a proper order can get it done in half that. Organizing things such as expeditions, shift projects, etc as scientists is extremely difficult when, most of the time, it's on the shoulders of the head powergamer (RD) to actually progress levels. Juggling levels and preparation for more interesting projects than shit you've done quite literally hundreds of times, is not fun, and ends up extending preparation time for many things from "The first 20 minutes of the round" to "The better part of 3 quarters of the entire round." Changing the R&D order has proven ineffective in the past, as many things seen as "cheating the system," then removed, have simply had alternatives in code that are easy as fuck to find if you just spam decon things or code dive. Even if this entire process was defeated, extending this mind-numbing experience serves to do nothing other than pose an obstacle to people having some fun. @Alberyk was doing the right thing by removing what could be powergamed from R&D rather than extending the leveling process for these reasons exactly. However, if you really wish to go down the route of removing things that can be powergamed, remove the ability to make anything combat related from anything ever, including robotics' combat mechs, robotics' combat RIGs, R&D's protoguns, and essentially the entire phoron research branch. (dont do that please) Important note : you 100% have to do research period or the entire department ceases to function properly, even Toxins needs upgrades at this point.
  4. Some input : I think this idea is fantastic, given the following. 1. Only 3-5 uses. Period. Fabricating more rejuvenation juice is bad. It is bad because, no matter what, your corpse can simply be left on the Aurora, and then "rebuilt later when we have time." 2. Obtaining more rejuvenation juice should be possible via... fax, I guess? 3. Remove the sickness aspect entirely short of noninvasive mental traumas. What I mean by this is simply that there is a fine line between screaming at dirt against your will and seeing hallucinations, hearing voices, etc. The people who won't roleplay post-cloning/post-rejuvenation traumas are not the same kind of people who will care if it has mechanical detriments. Unless you literally spawn them without arms and legs there will always be the case of security officers jumping back into action A-S-A-P. To combat this, ahelp lmao ? ? ?
  5. To start, let me first clear up basics. - Master AI orders take priority over basic free will. - Laws take absolute priority over both. - Laws are not in question. - Interpretation of laws beyond literal definitions, however, is up to the players, which is then moderated by mod/admin staff when reported. More importantly - - Server rules take priority over all above. - Administrative word takes priority over the former point. Now that all that's cleared up, let's go straight to the most complex part of this. - There is out-of-character intent in personal interpretation of laws leaking into in-character decisionmaking. I am not administrative staff and since I'm not part of this complaint I'm not able to determine what is and is not being a dick, nor do I intend to explore that topic further. What I will instead lay out are facts in interpretation of laws, and how you chose to perceive them, and how you have chosen to perceive them multiple times before. It is blatantly obvious especially with the part in question here that you are trying to prove an OOC point in effectively policing the following through in-character action rather than contacting administrative staff (or even myself) on the matter : You have done this sort of thing in the past. A lot. I have teetered on stripping your IPC whitelist over situations that have cropped up in the past along these lines. Your behavior as an AI is extremely restrictive on stationbounds, counteractive to the actual whims of the players who enjoy themselves within the boundaries of the rules as your own personal agenda is placed higher than their own concept of "fun." Why do I think you're up to this shit yet again? Let's go back to the OOC motives of both players in question here. The stationbound is a tool. The stationbound can sometimes not be considered a character. The stationbound, however, is a player. Why is that important? I can't say "it's against the rules to be a dick," because I again don't define the rules, but I will certainly tell you that OOC motives affecting your IC interactions and IC interpretations of other people's interpretations OOCly of laws is not okay, whatsoever. Let's loop back to the original points relevant here - - Laws are not in question. - Interpretation of laws beyond literal definitions, however, is up to the players, which is then moderated by mod/admin staff when reported. To summarize what I'm getting at with all that's said above, your AI play is not only rule-breaking in my opinion, but terrible synth play in of itself that you'd even consider addressing it in-character and imposing such comically ridiculous punishments upon a stationbound for disobeying you. It reeks of the same old powertripping I see of your AIs, consistently - lording over stationbounds to extend your own out of character desires for how they ought to be interpreted in-game. I however am not a fan of leaving bases uncovered, so I'm going to continue. Were realism the intent here, you would not even seek punishment against a stationbound who can't feel pain. You would not even seek the slightest interaction with them upon believing they are malfunctioning than locking them down and promptly detonating them if they keep moving. You would not speak to crew, only responding with directly relevant statements, and make no attempt to serve as anything more than an on-call station remote access function. You would see a person without their identification card and blare alarms. You would in essence contribute nothing to the progression of a round beyond being a simple tool no more than a wrench that can kill of its own avail, In essence, realism means you are playing a tool, and tools aren't characters. To look at it from @Contextual's perspective, Pennant is a strange case. Yes, there is OOC motivation to play Pennant as a character, contrary to the "realism" the above entails. No, Pennant does not defy laws from what I've seen to gain an upper hand in IC "socialization." No, I don't even really care if he does, or if it's the case here - because, again, it could be pinned on this until proven otherwise - - Interpretation of laws beyond literal definitions, however, is up to the players, which is then moderated by mod/admin staff when reported. - or taken to administration. Pennant is, as well, a character I have interacted with plenty. They routinely dip in and out of proper roleplay as any established character/player does and to this extent I have occasionally seen odd synth RP at times. That's all I have seen. Odd synth RP, at times. Not "terrible, terrible synthetic roleplay," and certainly never anything I'd end up fucking the player over for. That's all the input I have on the matter.
  6. mercs can choose between 5 aesthetics to pursue, the least we can do is give them desaturated optional uniforms and bags to fit with any aesthetic they may pursue instead of black and red across the board.
  7. assume no modern caliber outside of ones explicitly stated to be used ingame would be seen in universe as production models. Otherwise, our weapons are sci-fi nonsense including "plasma bolters," "gauss thumpers," "laser rifles," etc. Gauss tech is seen as old and unrefined, unexplored territory that never got its chance to shine, with things like gauss thumpers being unwieldy and outdated compared to the weapons of today. Weapons predating that are Interstellar War era, and I've personally seen them as WW2 in comparison to our present tech, but in space. Whatever was used and isn't illegal today was manufactured for total war ideologies, making weapons of that era not only valuable (seeing as it's the space age,) but incredibly dangerous as well (see : Interstellar War Giant Fucking Robots.) More detail on exactly how grimdark that is can be seen below. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Robotics_Overview#Exosuit_and_RIG_History Here's where the logistical golden age of robotics kicked off and things like the Skirmisher, a battlemech in the flesh in all its technological beauty came to be. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Combat_Robotics#History Here it's detailed exactly how combat robots shaped the end-game for how war could be fought, used by the Alliance in the Interstellar War. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Timeline_of_Humanity#The_First_Interstellar_War Here's the war itself on the wiki. As for specifics as to what's in our code... Most lore-friendly stuff can be seen above. Blasters are frequently used by TCFL and are aging, less lethal but more efficient than laser rifles of modern day. Battlerifles, malellas and m8s are Solarian navy stuff, chambered in 7.62, 12g and 9mm respectively with no specifics as to what type of bullets they exactly are. Bolters and slammers are Elyran plasma weapons, meme guns that shoot bolts that light people on fire and have such high AP they just pass through windows. The wood-finished weapons short of the cannon are modern-day-esque tech, not really defined as anything specific in our lore. The cannon is a Tajaran cartoon, made reality. Praise alberyk. Pulse rifles are seen by Sol marines, which, in our lore, are generally a mixture of "really scary dudes in black suits" or "absolute crayon-eating weirdos who trip on their own 7 frag grenades in Avery's fifteenth sol marine event." HAPT also utilizes pulse weapons, but HAPT is not technically canonically known to exist by the crew as they're essentially our server's deathsquad. PMCs such as NT-ERT utilize 5.56 rampantly in things like bullpup carbines seen like literally every day in the hands of ERT. Mercs use 7.62 ARs that carry much the same attributes as battle rifles with the exception of specialized magazines that can't be printed from autolathes. Tajarans are rapidly advancing technology-wise as far as I know and, in depictions seen on offshoot servers like Menown's cat server, they had prototype lawgivers called Lawbringers. I don't know the context of that and the server is technically noncanon as far as "official statements" from me can go. However, I'm pretty sure I've seen them referenced before. Ceres' Lance adopts Sol naval weapons and pulse rifles. Eridani PMCs often use energy weapons able to switch between "stun," "ruin your day," and "kill you." Frontiersmen mostly use high-powered ballistics and Gauss weaponry leftover post-interstellar war. Jargon uses... nobody's really sure what they use, it's just overpowered, whatever it is. Vaurca have access occasionally to ancient Tachyon weapons, which are just extremely powerful lasers that can go through walls and stuff. And, finally, Unathi use spears and wear tanks (breacher suits). That's the extent of my knowledge on who uses what. Besides that, for the most part, our lore is devoid of specifics on weapons circlejerking and military lore. This was largely disregarded during former administration for very good reason in my eyes, due to the inherent fixation our server already has on the perpetuation of murder ingame even when it's counterproductive to the core of the server, being roleplay. also they weren't really interested in it. However, I am, and while I want to explore it more, I do understand the majority of the playerbase' desire to not delve into pedantics of military nonsense. Until that changes some day, enjoy cool science fiction weapons that make zero sense but are as wicked as we can make them.
  8. Alright, I'm here, right on time as usual. Let's start from the beginning. I like you as a player, and think that despite your mistakes and sometimes odd gameplay, you're ultimately just playing in good faith to have fun yourself and help everyone else do the same. There's still room for improvement as can be said for everyone, but because of all that I'm going to disregard your present RP - it doesn't seem too relevant to the application currently imho. So. This is good. I like this comparison, and being up-front with what exactly you're imposing your character over is always nice to both get a point across and level with how you perceive this. In this case, I'm more than happy to perceive an IPC as just that - quite a smart slave, one whose free will simply ends up being governed by whatever is directly a threat to its self-preservation. Don't misinterpret that as solely a combat thing, though - many people see "self preservation" as simply a BS prevention method to crack down on IPCs killing themselves for valids. It's been expanded upon for a reason, and the yearning to not die that IPCs definitely experience is something that can drive much of any story relating to freedom should one think on it just a little. A big thing on the IPC page is that these things are not only made abundantly clear, but are obvious in the very summary of the IPC page itself. Not to pull a "haha, you should've read better!" card here, what I moreso mean is that I have often denied applications for not trying to do anything unique in this category. The lack of an attempt implies they're simply addressing the IPCs at face value, and that being robusto bots. Again, not saying that is your reasoning here, but I'm explaining mine. As well, "robotic till pushed or programmed human from the start" is not applicable. See this : "It is important to understand what emotions can truly be considered “natural” for a Human over a synthetic. IPCs may simulate emotion with immensely varying quality between models. There is no action without reaction and even the most complex positronics work in a binary format. As such, IPCs almost never have childish and unpredictable dispositions." I should make this the title of a section, because it is unbelievably important. The biggest issue with IPCs has always ultimately been this - players, naturally responding like Humans, in situations where they are playing robots. Unless you are an antagonist (and even then, I have punished for poor antagonist behavior from IPCs too) there is quite literally no way around this. What I do for many whitelisted folks is explain to them quite thoroughly to "think of a reason for everything before you do it," and by that, I mean literally everything. Every tiny action you take governed by some degree of reason. The fact that you're slowed down makes you seem more like a robot anyway, but once you get up and used to it, it's no big deal. The moment you end up disregarding this, you're going down a slippery slope of declining RP standards and what IPC devs like to call "human+" behavior (Excessive force or slander as a security officer IPC is one I often see here.) This backstory itself is quite brief but, you're pretty understanding of the lore labels and how they work. See your former statement in the "Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human" section. Specifically, I mean - "robotic till pushed or programmed human from the start," again. This is contradictory - implying to me that the most robotic character was chosen for an applicant that fundamentally doesn't quite understand yet what that really means. I'm inclined to believe this was for ease of writing the backstory. I don't expect a creative writing essay but two paragraphs can contain more than just "bot made, bot go here, bot go there." However, with what I've said above, I'm confident you'll understand exactly what I'm trying to convey and there will be no issue with understanding robotic behavior on our server. I'm going to deny this application for now, to give you at the very least a few days to think on it - you're free to reapply after a week's time so long as the application takes into account the contents of this reply. Application denied.

    Rework EMP's

See above. Countless nerfs in relation to EMP immunity are present on that rework.
  10. i literally don't care lmao. The sprites are fine. The jokes are funny.
  11. Not going to lie, this is a fantastic application all around. I fully intend to accept it as you've clearly put your best foot forward in submitting it this way, as well as comprehending plenty of some of the more complicated subjects to brush over with playing IPCs. With that said, synthetic wiki pages - as well as the IPC page itself - has received large updates since you last viewed them. For your ease of reading I'll specify what exactly needs to be caught up on. - Below the "Positronic Brain" section is now a note on self-preservation. - The frames got much beefier backstories though that isn't necessarily extra important. - The means to acquiring freedom have changed in Tau Ceti, not a lot, moreso just clarity. - The full Synthetic History page is now on the IPC wiki page and is mandatory reading. Other additions, such as everything under Nonstandard IPCs/Factions can be disregarded. Also, things such as SSTA, The Intelligence Explosion and the Synthetic Intelligence Movement have been removed from the wiki due to irrelevance, lack of usage, no lore, and contradictions a plenty. This won't change your app one bit - but it might be important for you to know. As far as how you can interpret a replacement for utilons and morality cores (seeing as the primary page detailing morality cores is now gone,) it is up in the air and generally you can develop an understanding of the IPC brain's limitations easier by following closely to the rules outlined on the page. Synthetic faction pages have been condensed into a "Synthetic Factions" page as well, though nothing has changed outside of "Rudatek" and the "Sunderers" being deleted. Other than that, application absolutely accepted. Make sure to read up!
  12. SLF ASSETS UNCOVERED, TERRORIST ACTIVITY HALTED! Earlier this week, authorities in District 14 of Mendell City reported groundbreaking discoveries related to ongoing occurrences with the Synthetic Liberation Front. Police and stationed NanoTrasen emergency-response personnel stated the total scattering of six highly-important hideouts and internal communications relays to the criminal and terrorist activity linked to the SLF. Very few collaborators found themselves taken into custody, but the majority of the physical connections between many criminals appear to now be severed, with all activity external to the site simply ceasing since then. This is marked as a major victory and presumably the final blow to any major coordination the Synthetic Liberation Front may have in the Republic, cut before it could grow into a larger issue. Ceres’ Lance higher-ups have now migrated the majority of their assets to Tau Ceti, with NanoTrasen taking them in as one of their most funded private military companies used to keep our system safe. With the introduction of Bubble, however, they are projected to find themselves starved for work in the future. Now based at the NTCC Odin, the organization now dedicates all operations to the betterment of the Republic with little expectation for major hostile synthetic incursions in the future in the system. Ceres’ Lance Central Officer Bradford Myles would chime in, telling our journalists the following - “My brief stay in the Republic has led me to believe this place should not carry the reputation it has. For all it grants to synthetics, you’d think the notion of total freedom would be something peacefully pursued. NanoTrasen demands a safe future, and so the Lance will ensure that’s what this ends up remaining - a peaceful pursuit, nothing more. It is no surprise that an end would be brought to the Synthetic Liberation Front, but it is safe to assume that whatever collaborators remain will piece together something, some day. Until that day we remain vigilant, offering only the best to the Republic and NanoTrasen.” Myles’ words of caution are something to remember, with illicit activity running rampant and suspicious behavior being one of the only hints one may have to tracking it down in a NanoTrasen workplace. Words of caution and fliers detailing the situation will presumably make their rounds in the coming weeks, with NanoTrasen officials diffusing tension and the situation returning to normal. OOC notes below. This marks the end of the SLF Incursion Arc, which was cancelled early. Linked summary posts can be seen here - https://forums.aurorastation.org/calendar/event/49-slf-incursion-arc/
  13. until
This is a series of events which occurred from 07-27-19 to 08-22-19. The basis of this arc was an incursion from the Synthetic Liberation Front in its final struggles to survive, attempting to set up on the Aurora as a smuggling point of sorts for intaking abandoned, misplaced or rogue synthetics fleeing into Tau Ceti. The arc itself was cancelled due to multiple complications. The events which occurred are detailed below. BUILDUP The announcement thread for the arc can be seen here. https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/12456-synthlore-revival-arc-announcementfeedback-thread/ ARC BEGINNING Ceres' Lance arrives in Tau Ceti, bringing the big guns. With the Synthetic Liberation Front showing its ugly face again, NanoTrasen pulls no punches and drops everything they have on them, detailed here - https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/2662-mendell-city-bugle/page/8/?tab=comments#comment-118729 Meanwhile, the Synthetic Liberation Front begins its infiltration of NanoTrasen facilities, acquiring recruits in events known as the "SLF Mole" events. In these, a combat infiltrator and a Hunter-Killer board the station, with the sole extent purpose of acquiring loyalists in the field to fight for the Synthetic Liberation Front. SLF MOLE EVENTS Event 1 | 7/30/2019 - Four Synthetic Liberation Front operatives were recruited from crew characters on the NSS Aurora. Event 2 | 8/1/2019 - One Synthetic Liberation Front operative was recruited on the NSS Aurora. In an unfortunate turn of events, the security department (Head of security Khaled Al-Bastaki, Security Officer Kaden, Detective IRU-Agnes) located an untagged shell by the name of Kiera Patterson before decisively disabling and containing the synthetic on the transfer shuttle. An enormous military-grade synthetic attempted to recover Kiera Patterson before the shuttle left, but bound synthetics managed to lock down the dock, and command forced the shuttle before it was able to board and harm the crew inside. The military-grade unknown escaped on a separate vessel. Kiera Patterson has been turned over to the NanoTrasen robotics line for projected disassembly due to terrorist collaboration. NTCC Odin was informed of the presence of Hunter-Killer androids on board the NSS Aurora itself. shit got real Event 3 | 8/1/2019 (roughly 16 hours later) - Two Synthetic Liberation Front operatives were recruited on the NSS Aurora. The operations generally went without flaw until it was deduced that Hugh Wright was indeed an untagged shell, in which case security failed to mobilize in time to apprehend them. Them, and their Hunter-Killer accomplice escaped without harm to themselves. The first and second event's conclusions are mentioned here - https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/2662-mendell-city-bugle/page/9/?tab=comments#comment-119020 Event 4 | 8/2/2019 - No Synthetic Liberation Front operatives were recruited on the NSS Aurora. In an unfortunate turn of events, a shell by the name of Aikira Thomas was discovered, disabled, and secured by ISD (Head of Security Jesse Armstrong, Warden Laika Tupulev, Security Officer Albert Weiss, Security Officer Q'orja Sak'ha) A transcript of the events that transpired during the interrogation of Aikira Thomas can be found here, before it revealed itself as a synthetic infiltrator. https://pastebin.com/DaLjb6jZ 8/2/2019 - The SLF mole events have thus concluded with eight SLF operatives recruited from the ranks of the Aurora crew. Individuals can know externally about the events of 8/1/2019, event 2 and 3, via briefings, news and internal NanoTrasen employee knowledge. Otherwise, no knowledge is known externally. Host/participants: kyres1 (Host, shells) , thedococt (HK-Agamemnon), drwago (HK-Charon), cakeisossim, paradoxspace(HK-Kronos) All events were ran on Secret. EVENT FIVE - LANCE SWEEP ONE Ceres’ Lance officials partook in a scheduled sweep of the station for rogue shells. They had parted with one bunker suit control module to the internal security department. Shortly after their arrival they began interviews with crew, taking blood samples and handling scans, several crew began to show suspicious activity. Eventually, it became apparent that two individuals - the IPC Noir, and the Skrellian Qu Shin, were working to hide an untagged shell by the name of Sundeene Fiscelli from the Lancers on board. The operation proceeded to find the Lancers in the presence of Sundeene Fiscelli, who at that point had made it apparent their true nature. Submitting peacefully, Noir, Qu Shin, and Sundeene Fiscelli were transported without harm to the NTCC Odin for processing. Sundeene Fiscelli was cleared of any potential SLF collaboration. They were re-tagged, fined, and demoted for their crimes. Noir was arrested for a yet undetermined duration by Republic authorities for their crimes. Qu Shin was fined for their crimes. Adrien Major, in an unrelated incident, was placed on official watch due to suspicious activity in purchasing a shell tagger seemingly out of the blue, and failing to cooperate with Lance officials. The present Lance operatives were : Giselle Royce (Tailson), Jakob Venter (Geeves), Cadence Brooks (Doxxmedearly), Marco Hernandez (Furrycactus) The briefing for the operation can be seen below. Anybody is permitted to know about this event and its results in post ICly and OOCly. Host/participants : Kyres1, (Varying participation ahead) Tailson, Doxxmedearly, Geeves, Furrycactus This was ran on the Secret gamemode. EVENT SIX - LANCE SWEEP TWO Ceres’ Lance officials partook in a scheduled sweep of the station for rogue shells. The operation went as standard and the following individuals were interviewed by Ceres' Lance personnel : Iah Gadasa, a shell IPC paramedic, was interviewed and deemed a non-threat by Ceres' Lance officials. Gwendolyn Miller, a Human mechatronic engineer, was interviewed and deemed a non-threat by Ceres' Lance officials. Flotsam, a Baseline IPC roboticist, was placed on temporary low-threat watch by Ceres' Lance officials within the PMC itself. Government officials do not take this information into account. The spotty transcript of the majority of the three interviews details a brief interrogation of the three, even dipping into the enigmatic Rudatek, can be found here, https://pastebin.com/bKaYBJq4 The present Lance operatives were : Cadence Brooks (Doxxmedearly), Carl Harrison, (Capesh) Rookie McRookie, (N/A) The briefing for the operation can be seen below. Anybody is permitted to know about this event and its results in post ICly and OOCly. Nobody ICly knows word-for-word the transcripts posted above. Host/participants : Doxxmedearly (Cadence Brooks), Capesh (Carl Harrison) This was ran on the Secret gamemode. The SM also detonated but that's never canon, who cares lmao we have robots to beat up. EVENT SEVEN - SLF EVAC The Icarus defense net was breached momentarily and the Aurora was infiltrated by unknown entities. These unknown entities were SLF Collaborator Olivia Johanson and Hunter-Killer 867 "Sandman," Olivia, upon further inquiry, had been outed as a Solarian criminal, sparking a manhunt for her by Security. An engagement between Sandman and Security ensued, until Security was granted two Bunker Suit control modules by Ceres' Lance, delivered to their surface yellow dock. Utilizing these, pursuit across the station began. In the incident, security officer Oscar Easter and head of security Jesse Armstrong donned Bunker Suits. The first engagement resulted in Alex Weaver being hurled by the hunter-killer's fist out of the second story floor of maintenance leading into medical, leading into a chase that would amount to Sandman's inevitable demise in robotics. Gwendolyn Miller was confronted by Sandman in the cyborgification bay, and there, engineer Quentin Stycks wedged a mech in its escape route while both Bunker Suit operators entered and struck the incapacitating blows. Meanwhile, Olivia Johanson was preoccupied donning a disguise and being assisted by civilian staff to make it safely to the NTCC Odin. While evading security to the best of their ability, several civilian staff assisted by hiding Johanson within areas like the kitchen freezer, cargo maintenance, and so on. Ultimately, it was concluded that the combat synthetic was intent on protecting Johanson's life with the ultimate goal of getting her safely to the NTCC Odin. This was a resounding failure as Sandman met its demise in robotics, self-destructing in its restraints, leaving nothing but a peculiar data core behind... Afterwards, Olivia was discovered in disguise on board the crew transfer shuttle by Ana Roh'hi'tin and Oscar Easter. They were swiftly apprehended and returned to Central Command, cuffed and escorted. They are projected to be sent to Sol where they will meet execution for their crimes in both territories. Zune Carmichael was responsible for distracting Security from Olivia Johanson, buying her time and assisting the operation as best she could. Going so far as to claim bomb threats on board, they had led security on and unfortunately ended the shift in restraints. They are projected to be borgified canonically for the actions they have proceeded with. AIMMO was a potential SLF collaborator, but without substantial evidence to this, they have been demoted temporarily and placed on official watch. Anybody can know about the events that transpired due to their affiliation with the news post here, https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/2662-mendell-city-bugle/page/9/?tab=comments#comment-119250 Host/participants : TheDocOct (Olivia Johanson), kyres1 (HK Sandman-867) This event was ran on Secret. This was a unique event. EVENT EIGHT - BLOWING BUBBLES NTCC Odin’s new AI, Bubble, activates its interface in the NSS Aurora’s sector. Stupidity ensued. Five "bubbles," or personalities of Bubble, appeared on board to demonstrate the extent of the AI's abilities. With each personality assuming a different emotion, things obviously got very confusing. The crew eventually began to organize a strike until the AI's link was deactivated, which lasted a whole of one minute before Bubble's interface was simply shut off. Anybody could know about what happened during Bubble's visit. Host/participants : Scheveningen (Bubble), TheGoret (Bubble), Tailson (Bubble), Drwago (Bubble), FreshRefreshments (also bubble) This is related to the canonization app and news post seen below. https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/12002-bubble/ https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/2662-mendell-city-bugle/page/9/?tab=comments#comment-119365 EVENT NINE - VIP BORGIFICATION The NTCC Odin has scheduled a high-priority secure package transfer for 'processing' aboard the NSS Aurora, with no given explanation or details. Upon its arrival, it was discovered to be Zune Carmichael, an SLF collaborator whose participation in a previous event led to their scheduled cyborgification on board. Her final hour was to be spent on the same facility she would meet her fate with C/Tpr escort (Amelia). It was made clear to the crew for the most part what would occur, and upon this, SLF collaborators on board attempted to halt the process of cyborgification. Failing to find an opening in the security surrounding Zune Carmichael, the only operative able to make a move ended up being Vesper, who planted a welder bomb outside of the robotics bay. The detonation was massively delayed and did not pierce the hull of the lab, failing to stop the operation from taking place. Soon after, Zune Carmichael met her end and Vesper was deduced to be the bomber by security. Briefly after, a Hunter-Killer boarded the station as a sole distraction for security. Coming too late, its objective was changed, and it moved to the brig to secure revealed assets, namely Vesper. A security team led by Head of Security Joseph Lock successfully shot and missed the Hunter-Killer with an ion rifle, destroying Vesper's chassis behind it instantaneously during their escape. A chase occurred, and the Hunter-Killer managed to secure Vesper and return them to its vessel at Yellow Dock. The vessel soon escaped the Icarus defense net undetected. Vesper's positronic has been marked as missing by Republic of Biesel authorities. Zune Carmichael has been borgified, now residing in the unit Z.26. Anybody can know of what occurred in this event. Host/participants : kyres1, BoryaTheSlayer (Vesper), Bath Salts Addict (C/Tpr Amelia), Satinsprist666 (Zune Carmichael) FINISHING, CONSEQUENCES, AND SUMMARY While this arc was cancelled early at Event 9 due to many complications, it went rather well from a host's perspective. The finishing portion of the arc nonetheless will include the implementation of the promised goals, mentioned on its announcement thread. These are... Security borgs being removed indefinitely, seen in a news post here, https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/2662-mendell-city-bugle/page/9/?tab=comments#comment-119757 Bubble has been introduced, a tie-in between the Relay and ingame as the NTCC Odin's main AI. Removal of SIM. And most importantly, having some darned fun. As well, some things were added ingame that will be used whenever admins desire, being Ceres' Lance gear, loadouts, and a new type of IPC for event or perhaps antagonist usage! 14. I will be blunt and say that powergaming is perhaps the most problematic thing when confronting IPCs, as one could easily expect. They are pretty robust to the average dude and giving leeway to explore the advantages of synthetics without big drawbacks like laws and a lack of hands is something that needs careful moderation. Of course I'm pretty terrible at moderating this, even with how active I am and how many whitelists I've ended up stripping. The least I can do is address the fact that I have seen an excess of powergaming and LRP nonsense from you, stemming from your R&D gameplay to what is a literal walking greytide, John Grey, with the guise of "I'm actually roleplaying" being the only thing on the fine line between you and getting a warning for it to my knowledge. Application is fine and well-rounded. With the previous statements though, I'm going to deny this and let you reapply in a few weeks. In this time, do not take the game super seriously, and do not place yourself at higher expectations than anyone else. Maintaining immersion and good roleplay is difficult at times but it is an expectation of everyone at a baseline for good reason. Levity in this is common, and having fun is important - just understand that if you aren't having enough fun being immersed in the roleplay, you should seek alternative routes than constructing joke characters and defying reason to seize the narrative for your own gain. For clarity, what I refer to in "defying reason to seize the narrative," is your R&D gameplay. Spamming guns to combat antags at the first chance, arming miners and convincing them to take on heavily armed soldiers with R&D gear and plasmacutters, etc. And finally, I understand comic relief characters. They really aren't as fulfilling as just making a normal character with funny traits. Build jokes into a character, don't build a character out of jokes. I learned this myself after playing griefer-tier characters for years here before deciding "This is actually pretty cool and engaging if I go out of my way to immerse myself in what's going on." Using that logic, roleplaying above and beyond anyone's expectations becomes easy and fun as hell. Failing that, you can always try literal personality inserts from your own ideologies into characters to familiarize yourself with it before going down more complex routes. I look forward to you reapplying. Until that time comes, application denied. Also ; I understand it's difficult to parse what I'm saying at times, so feel free to DM me after this with questions should you want to ask.
  15. NT BOUND SECURITY MODULES DECOMMISSIONED! In a landmark case today, the Tau Ceti ninth circuit court has issued a halt on the production of further Nanotrasen security module cybernetic units, pending a ligation from synthetic watch-dog group Ceres Lance. Ceres Lance brought the case before the court nearly two months ago and has since gained the support of over 1,000,000 signatories within the robotic research and development sectors across all megacorporations, as well as Tau Ceti, and the Sol Alliance. They cite ethical concerns as well, bringing up numerous violations of law programming across virtually all sectors that use this Nanotrasen product. In one particularly egregious instance, Ceres lawyers cited a case in 2460 that's resolution reads as follows "We find in favor of the plaintiff, [REDACTED] who was unjustly brutalized for committing a “green class” crime according to Nanotrasen’s own regulations. This medical student, [REDACTED], studying upon NSS Canis Minor suffered irreparable nerve damage at the hands of Nanotrasen Security Cyborg-443, leading them to remain in a permanent vegetative state and denying them any future they might have once had." This attack was captured by the unit in questions own sensors and playback of the harrowing ordeal was replayed during the case. Ceres was able to further their point by the testimony of several expert witnesses, several Nanotrasen software engineers that all testified to the existence of what they refer to as a “feedback loop” in the case of Nanotrasen Security units that otherwise causes escalating aggressive behavior even when one or more of the pre-programmed laws are in conflict with each other. This, however, was not the nail in the coffin that ultimately swayed the court. Ceres called forth representatives of the Qui’qui’clip Cruise Agency, a Starlining company based out of Phoenixport and Anemostrovilos, with strong ties to the Jargon-Federation. The cruise agency discloses internal documents from its investigation of the CV Roanoke disaster just a little over one year ago, where all but one of its passengers disappeared. In their internal investigation, it placed the blame upon the Lii’dra hive for the disappearances but also lists that their service units were also at fault for compromising the standard emergency procedures that would have otherwise lessened the impact of the attack. They go on further to disclose that, as a way to cut costs, the Qui’qui’clip Cruise Agency purchased en masse several used Nanotrasen Security units, and also contracted Nanotrasen to retrofit these units for use in the service sectors of their Starliners. In the official record, Vud’uqil Quwx’quti, CEO of the Qui’qui’clip Cruise Agency had this to say in recorded testimony. “The Security units purchased below market value due to complaints tied with the units were, at the time, considered a cheaper alternative to more expensive service unit models, and our Agency had purchased them under contract with Nanotrasen to retrofit them to service specifications. We were, at no time during our transaction with Nanotrasen made aware of the existence of a “feedback loop” inherent with security module programming. Were we, we would have never endangered our passengers by using these units.” After this was laid out to the court, it moved to begin closing statements. In their closing statements, Ceres lawyers also layout further evidence that many of the Nanotrasen security units that have received complaints due to abusive or hostile behavior have now gained Tau Ceti citizenship due to being released under Tau Ceti law. They argue that these dangerous synthetic individuals are being released into our populations as citizens, where the harm they can inflict may go undocumented. They also raise concern over synthetic liberation groups compounding the problem by illegal seizure and releasing of potentially dangerous synthetics. After closing statements, deliberations began and lasted less than 30 minutes. After the reading of the ruling, ninth circuit judge Gabrial Valentina expressed extreme concern over the findings of the Ceres Lance investigation. Nanotrasen lawyers have already filed an appeal, and insiders claim that it is likely that this case will rise to the Tau Ceti Supreme Court. Further, our papers own investigations estimate that nearly 2,000,000 Nanotrasen Security units have been cycled into citizenship within Tau Ceti alone. Records concerning the base model of free citizens is also undocumented, meaning that it is nearly impossible to tell which units were transferred from a security model. Elsewhere, community leaders of free-synthetics of District 14 are organizing a protest event concerning the latest ruling, calling it quote “A return to the old way of thinking.” TS74, one of the synthetic community protest organizers had this to say, “They can't blame us for our programming. We did our time in servitude and proved our sentience and earned our freedom. Now we are being branded as dangerous individuals?” Other synthetic rights groups express concern, believing that this latest ruling sets a precedent that infringes on their rights of synthetic citizens. 16. The addition of removing android alt-titles has been removed due to backlash in the proposal. As well, security borgs will probably not be "reworked" or given an "alternative module." They are still awaiting removal, though the person responsible for the PR will be away until this saturday I think? Further discussion on the subject is redundant honestly as the points have already been made and I do not intend to spam the four(four!) rework threads with them, so I will pile them together right here as this is the primary thread leading to their removal. 1. Laws. To expand upon this point, laws both make no sense when dealing with crew antags and drill a validhunting mindset into your head. There is no maybes or ifs in this reality - the laws literally enforce keeping the facility secure to the best of your ability and repelling threats with utter impunity. As for crew antagonists, it's very difficult to rationalize stunbatoning NanoTrasen personnel you're meant to serve. It inflicts extreme pain and administers a paralyzing shock that could easily be seen as lethal force. This leads you to believe the security module is built to repel boarders - and, if boarders are the expectation, why not give it the necessary powerful armament to decimate any opposition? TL;DR, the module is difficult to rationalize existing ICly in its current state especially given laws. The laws as well force the players to crush opposition with their tools. 2. The tools. To expand upon this as well, the tools are fucking overpowered. You get a stunbaton which is dependent on your cell for charge, basically giving it several dozen whacks worth of juicy instant-paralysis that can disarm, disable and/or kill anyone you'd like - even if it's unable to kill, the fact that you're being hit with a stunbaton in of itself and probably being surrounded by officers and being totally unable to do anything about it short of overwhelming firepower/EMP/flash is enough to consider this ridiculous. A primary disadvantage of stunbatons is the ability to disarm them and use them against the caveman security officer presently beating you. A borg can not be disarmed, grabbed, pushed, paralyzed, have their hands broken, fall into crit, etc, making their capacity for stunbatoning you even that more absurd. To even further continue, no, the taser is not trash - even if you don't just target hands, it should still slow even a hardsuited person down enough for you to catch up and firmly apply a baton to the face of. TL;DR Stunbatons are crazy. Stunbatons are crazier when they don't run out of charge, and you can't feasibly stop them from hitting you without 3 specific counters. 3. The borgs themselves. As said before, borgs have huge advantages over humanoids. You are unable to push them (even warforms can't actually push them off a tile, making them an invulnerable wall if you get pinned in a corner), either with disarm intent or otherwise. You are unable to punch them. You are unable to disarm them. You are unable to gas them, stun them, suffocate them, poison them, inflict any sort of pain upon them, the list is very, very long here. They are fundamentally an extremely imbalanced and niche-countered gameplay factor. Thus, we should seek to remove them from round-by-round conflict, which security borgs are often the center of. Was the same argument had for combat borgs? No, it wasn't, because combat borgs were stupid in more ways than just being overpowered. They're a different story. TL;DR Borgs as mobs are not good for combat because of their inherent power. Why would anybody in their right mind give them buffs in combat outside of special roles (malf?) With all this said, yeah they should be getting removed. Seriously, they do not need a replacement, either. If you need reasoning why, please read above. While I am a big supporter of a "rework not remove" mindset, which was the original reason I pursued just getting Peacekeepers tied in with Bygone's Peacekeeper lore arc, I've come to learn that everyone and their mother has ideas on how to improve this. This broken feature should be removed until those improvements come.
  17. Good enough answers for me, and a brief discussion was had on discord regarding what I meant here. Application accepted.
  18. Not going to lie, I adore your gameplay from what I've seen and it seems to be improving each time I see you. This application is very well done, it's a good example of how you don't need a million paragraphs to get a point across. I'm glad you took a nonstandard route on just about everything (from occupation, to origin story, to how it gained freedom) and I see no issue accepting this as a result. Application accepted.
  19. Apologies for the wait. Let's cover this. As far as I'm concerned, you play mainly Phi Rathens and seem to center around them a lot. While you've branched out to other characters recently, I fear the fact that you're applying with someone of the same job will just end up making a metal, emotionless Phi. That's just one personal worry though, and I won't let it get in the way of processing this application, but it's a worry nonetheless. As for the application - To what extent did these changes occur? This seems like pretty needlessly circumventing something that's already in place to provide exactly what the end goal here is. By that, I mean that positronics grow - they learn, adapt, and over time develop greater capabilities while sacrificing the unnecessary bits to pursue that (exactly like the human brain). This is referenced here - on the IPC page. Adapting and forming emotional simulations at a minimum is definitely not out of scope of this. Basically what I'm trying to say is it seems like you went over a trait of IPCs, and just went straight to a trait of robots to accomplish what you needed, which was greater emotional comprehension. Is this the only reason they'd seek a highly costly Shell frame? Does it further their work, and assist in their survival to acquire one, or is it just "better fitting in?" I ask because you never expressly covered the fact that Shiki had any interest in pursuing such a thing, yet suddenly they're devoting a gargantuan workload of over a million credits of debt to better fit in. ? This ? scares ? me. I can not stress enough how much things like this sound like "I only emote when I care" or "I only emote when it's beneficial to me." A veeeeeeeeery important factor of IPCs, despite being robots, is trying to understand how emotions work. There is no reason an IPC even attempting to comprehend these things would suddenly flip switches between whatever emotion you may feel is random at any given point in time, as jarring as it may seem. However, I do have a piece of advice for this, moving forward playing robots in general. Everything happens for a reason. Humans experience this in a manner that is very difficult to predict, but when you're playing a robot, you are very capable of divining reasoning for every action yourself. Try to focus more on the reasoning and buildup to things, rather than attempting to alter a narrative with whatever sounds "robotic" to you at any given point in time. If you need examples for me to elaborate upon, simply ask. Beyond that, I'll wait until you address what I've said and we can discuss what to do with this app.

  22. I've never felt safer in accepting an application along these lines. You brushed over the Golden Deep (which nobody's done before), delved into the odd lack of indifference during times of struggle, and in-game you're everything one could ask for in RP and more. Great app, great player, great characters. What more could I say? Application accepted.
  23. Kaiser is a fantastic bound, in honesty. I have never seen you do anything short of uphold roleplay expectations for it at any given point, even in times of levity. Though, I'd carefully watch its attachments to crew and try to moderate that yourself. This leads me to believe you're more than capable of playing an IPC, and this application does mostly everything to solidify that fact. The backstory itself doesn't - it instead says that you understand how bonkers complicated it is for a single person to make an IPC, shipping their "life's work" equivalent to Rook Keller himself. These things are usually made on very complicated assembly lines far more capable than Human hands, and this backstory demonstrates that without mentioning it. Furthermore, you made a clear effort to divert from the norm, placing the Aurora as a "first step" deal rather than the ultimate goal - as well as the things unrelated to the backstory. Application accepted.
  24. NTCC ODIN MAINFRAME UPDATED : SYSTEMWIDE AI “BUBBLE” INTRODUCED! In 2458 the obviously outdated A.L.I.C.E. AI module in the NTCC Odin was scheduled for replacement by the recently-labelled replacement “Bubble.” Now, Bubble has found itself completed, a central intelligence and the second largest of its kind in known space. NanoTrasen has assured officials that this is their largest step moving forward in recent times to ensure the security of Tau Ceti as a system, citing its “unparalleled capacity for surveillance and advisory” as key advances against criminal activity. To this extent, it has been granted oversight of not only the NTCC Odin, but NanoTrasen traffic control operations in Mendell City and some bound synthetics within. Bubble itself is a revolutionary creation, a specially-made core building off of A.L.I.C.E.’ network with a special law-set conforming to the wishes of its own NanoTrasen “central command.” Constructed in a positronic-esque structure, the origins of its personality can be owed to the duplication of the late genius Aartke Andesha. One of the original pioneers behind industrialized nanomachines in modern day, she had unfortunately passed away in a lab accident as of July 7, 2460. Now, utilizing extensive scans of the woman’s brain, Bubble was created in an extraordinary mesh between man and machine - one made in mimicry of the former. Blatant issues were raised in development of Bubble, namely correlation between its own purpose and the potential for danger given the synthetic ever “goes rogue,” as Ceres’ Lance officials have put it. Contrarily, Ceres’ Lance officials have assured our reporters that the possibility of Bubble developing any form of rampancy is “simply nonexistent.” “It’s a stable construct in terms of hardware and software and is monitored at all times by a frankly bloated team of specialists. Lancers have been specially contracted to monitor the mainframe itself, with an excessive amount of organic oversight in the vicinity of the core at any given point.” A.L.I.C.E itself has gone the route that most synthetics in the past have gone, being migrated to a proper dismantling line to meet its end there. Its frame and a painted-over screen of its central core will be put on display at the Mendell City Xavier Trasen Memorial Museum. The screen depicts a beautiful illustration of A.L.I.C.E’ face in an excited expression, greeting whoever enters the robotics sector it is presented in.
  25. Sorry for the ridiculous wait. It's time to come to a conclusion on this app. The app itself is lackluster. There's no attempt at any deviation from the most basic with the answers and the backstory itself could not be simpler. While I can admire a to-the-point backstory, this simply doesn't cut what we require - , the latter "Approximately two paragraphs," being the important part here. It is extremely short. Furthermore, I can't help but not only echo what Paradox said, but chime in by essentially saying that, with your current playstyle, I have very little if not a total lack of faith in your ability to uphold proper IPC roleplay. All this said, application denied. Feel free to reapply in a couple weeks.
