ParadoxSpace didn't once mention them being unfit for their role, he mentioned them not trying to roleplay properly. Labelling your full uniform "COOL SHIT" and calling people "NEVER FRIENDS" while emoting crying isn't roleplaying. Even if you're subverted, you shouldn't be calling people 'mai waifu'. You shouldn't need to ICly ask people to roleplay seriously. That should be a given. OOC jokes between friends is fine, but if it's reached a point where ParadoxSpace has found it necessary to make a complaint, then it's being radically overdone. Given that Paradox only stated one round where this was a problem, this was assuredly an outlier. This had been a very stressful day for me and AA, and so I went overboard. This is my bad. I will say, however, that labelling their uniform the way they have been is inappropriate if you deem it so, and I'll stop. The last thing I want to do is step on toes. This was a slip in roleplay quality on some occasions during the round, and I apologise for that. Sytic knows that the problem is with their roleplay. They just don't care and don't intend to improve on it. They have it set in their mind what kind of character they want to play and thats how they're going to play it. The interesting emotion in question is their humour and bouncing attitude, their seriousness did not come up in this complaint (and they were very serious reporting the issue of the AI being subverted, if you want to pull logs, ODIN stated the issue flat, with no drama involved) and the only evidence included was of their goof-off time at a difficult day at the beginning of a round. There has been many rounds where ODIN has had to be serious, polite and efficient. For example, Coalf's event round in January on the 27th, ODIN stated that they required more intelligence before doing anything dramatic, the Head of Security didn't listen and we got a "bad end" for the event round. Another example, during CCIAA interviews and speaking to suspects of potential IR cases, ODIN is serious as it warrants a serious situation. When shot with an Ion by Carmichael, ODIN doesn't jump on the bandwagon to get him fired with Decanus and Noir, but just states it was a bad call and everybody made mistakes in the situation involved. ODIN has been serious in the past, and will continue to be for situations that warrant it or when people begin to go overboard. I'd also like to remind you that that PM is still there, still available for reply, and you can always reply to it to give me some feedback if you want. I remember Bloke 2, and ODIN has never done anything to cause a problem in the workplace, and if they did they put a stop to it when asked. ODIN does not grief, and if I'm being an arsehole please come to me and I'll try and sort it out. The locker naming will stop upon asked, and this is not a backlog of catalogued evidence, as this is from one round where I had a slip in roleplay quality due to the stress of exams and talking to AA about an IR report they got earlier in the day. On regards to subversion, I only had ODIN act strange because that's what their fellow IPC's who were subverted did. They acted strange, so I acted strange, and made it seem appropriately off. But if that's not alright, I won't do it again, and will tone down the behaviour at your request.

This is a confusing part of the actual argument, and I'll explain why. This all happened before the AI had an influence on our actions, but it was contained and controlled to between us two, and when the Detective wanted it to cease it was stopped. This was a quickly solved IC issue at roundstart that had no effect on the round whatsoever. Later on, there was subversion and the robots started acting incredibly inappropriately (https://imgur.com/SkhdHJL <- This image, quoted as being an "excessive meme" was very inappropriate, but it was after the subversion, unlike everything else in Paradox's argument. This is what makes this so confusing.) Cake and Kyres both looked into ODIN's character and found no issues with me as a player whitelisted for IPC's beyond an excessive use of swears, which I will try to control in the future.

When I saw the title, I believed this would be a "ERT TOO STRONG, KILLS EVERYBODY, ANTAGS NEED A BUFF OR THEY NEED A NERF" thread, but it was actually something that makes a lot of sense in a round. ERT is made to be when things are fucked and the antags have stalled long enough for reinforcements show up, so this nerf effectively reinforces what the ERT is for. +1
-
It's an annoying event that happens every single round, and is never fixed because it's so goddamn minuscule of a problem. +1 Off-topic a bit, could vending machines target SSD/AFK characters buckled to a chair? Does that mean we need to ban vending machines?
-
The antics were contained and stopped when asked, as it only involved ODIN and Talc, and when the detective wanted them to put a stop to it they did. Alright, I'll stop. You could have just asked me in like a DM over discord or something.
-
Wouldn't this allow Security to be stabbed in their respective gonads? That seems like a really, really bad idea.
-
ERT should be entirely for backup purposes, and should not be relieving the Captain unless he's an actual danger to the Crew that they've come to protect, i.e. what Standard Regulations lets them do.
-
Hey, ODIN here. The last image of ODIN being a meme was when he was shackled to the AI and stubbornly beginning to break apart at the seams in order to mess with people. ODIN is a security cadet because they are atypical and need to be taught regulations, as well as how to properly act around most crewmembers. I do not act silly on purpose to irritate people, ODIN was nothing but nice to Mike Barnes and it was not completely ignored, as the fight had ended. The round had only just started, it was just a simple minor goof, it was handled in character and both personas of ODIN and Talc are not lax on their duties as Security members. If you want to bring up an issue particularly about their behaviour, I would personally in the future recommend an Incident Report to CCIAA, as it has never been my intention to dissuade ODIN from doing important Security duties critical to the station. EDIT: Again, to reiterate, the slapfight ended when Barnes wanted it ended, breaking it up.

Isn't electroshock therapy illegal in some countries/states, hypnotic therapy has no merit, and isolation therapy is actual torture? Why is this even being suggested?

Revert the Mapping Changes to Medical and the Brig
Sytic replied to Bath Salts Addict's topic in Archive
Medical changes moved the easily accessible point further away for some reason, and moved the Detective's office to a place where he cannot accept visitors without having to open three doors and walk down a flight of stairs. The CSI's office is too small and the Cargo shop taking the place of the Detective's office barely seems to make an impact. I would prefer a revert. -
Shells are supposed to be human-coloured. What would be INCREDIBLY funny if your skin took on the psychedelic jumpsuit effect whenever EMP'd for a few seconds.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint - ShameOnTurtles
Sytic replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
ODIN here. I did agree that, while excessive, when he continues to actually be a rather solid threat (unhandcuffable, unathi with powerful punches, hardsuit that can splint limbs automatically IIRC) while there are other threats left to dispatch and subdue/eliminate, with Echo being completely uncaring to their own life while completely outnumbered and obviously still having a capacity to accept surrender (especially while AmoryBlaine was yelling "stop resisting") it seems valid. Especially considering, we had a repairable IPC which we recovered with intention to repair for questioning and arresting. Echo was being unresponsive to all requests to stop resisting (regardless whether it was a meme or not) and was still giving out pretty big hits, standing up every time he was knocked down due to his hardsuit. On top of that, we couldn't handcuff him. Our only hope was to dislocate his legs, yet every time he fell over, he got up. We beat him into crit, and then he near instantly either died or succumbed. EDIT: -
I'd mention that, restricting IPC's based on empathy (or lack thereof) is very, very dumb. Most IPC's will be given logical reasons not to be an asshole and to at least act like they have empathy. Secondly, why would you give a robot the ability to feel pain? How would that benefit a robot in the workplace or in general? They can already detect when their body is breaking.

[Accepted] kyres1's IPC application
Sytic replied to kyres1's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Roleplays very nicely ICly, have destroyed almost all their AI antag rounds, they have helped OOCly on the synthetic lore and is a lore writer, almost got arrested because VAO didn't understand metaphors, know their shit when it comes to synthetics, looking forward to ruining their antag rounds as P.E.N.T. +1 from me. -
Edgar (yes, Edgar. This is who you are applying for, the staff just wanted a different approach at this) is a good scientist, and is a good roboticist, and overall has all the traits I think (bar one) to be an RD. Unfortunately he lacks the most important one: I don't think Edgar is a good leader. Edgar definitely strives to do everything, and does it well on many situations (teleportatoing the Captain out of the merc ship, what a fucking madman jesus christ) but I don't think he's RD material- Then again, I don't believe I have had a very good look at Edgar so far, so I do not think I have a privilege to judge as much there. What I will be giving a -1 for is, having so recently made an app, had it denied for the purpose of "no, edgar needs a fucking break, do a new" you have not played (as far as I have seen) any new characters to any such degree you have played Edgar, and the last time your app was denied because "please do something else other than Edgar" you got rather perturbed about it and promptly made a complaint about it when it was pretty valid salad- But you did it anyway, because you really like Edgar. And I can get with that. I really like my character, and I rarely play other ones, but I try and improve them as much as possible, At every opportunity I reach for improvement, and strive to do better. I think before making another Head Application, try to take a break and improve Edgar as a whole, and even play some other characters, and come back with a new outlook and an improved character, which can give a lot of players faith in you to give a +1 in the future. Until then, a -1 from me, but this may change with a reply. edit: Even though I still do not believe Edgar as a character from what I have seen of him should be a Head of Staff at this stage, I cannot deny I have not seen much of them, and of HunterRS themselves OOCly. Moving to a 0.

This is just another emote. I don't think it should be special. Just use the click noise of the fingersnap if you really need a noise, otherwise just shoot fingerguns at someone, or "me shoots fingerguns at (some guy)" if it doesn't get added. I don't see a controversy here.

Feedback: Khaled Al-Bastaki (RIP Raymond Hawkins)
Sytic replied to Faris's topic in Character and Concept Feedback
Raymond is much more attentive than me, goddamnit anyways, all interactions I've had with Raymond are positive, occasionally there's some difficulty with communication but I don't think that's too big of a problem to worry about, especially if you learn to trust them. -
no I just swear a lot, sorry if that's taken as harsh. it's an australian thing, I'll tone it down Okay, you have a valid point that it doesn't need to be of the 40k lore, but if you need to study something, you're already decreeing that said thing is a mystery to you, so you need to study it. bam, space magic- Just kidding. I mostly just want to say that a laser beam does not need to be researched at all at this state of the universe because it has already been researched entirely, while if psionics just pops up, it will be an across-round effect on characters that has an effect much outside the bounds of some idiot getting TK through the weird genetics system. the precedent would have to be much more solidified. plus, this still does not touch upon the effects of game balance, the tone shift, and the overall amount of lore this would require if you want to write it as accurately as possible. It's far too much work for the server unless you want psionics to be upon the level of a gimmick per round EDIT: Or the main focus of a server (which would actually be pretty cool) and that in my honest opinion would be pretty shit. -1.
-
I just think, while psionics are friggin' cool as a general idea (i fucking love 40k) I'm saying that it goes against the general lore we've created here. It'd require a timeskip to make sense, even. Because of aforementioned time issues. Which is all fine and dandy, but there's a point where eventually you start basing the whole thing around psionics, because once you start explaining the space magic, all the more important it becomes and all the more things holding it together there needs to be. Such as the many cosmological planes of the D&D universe to explain the various gods. As soon as lore was required to dig into them, all the more important it became, and it overall became more larger and more important than the original product, being whatever D&D realm you had. Also, fuck off, space magic is a wonderful term for my psionics, given that the definition of magic is as follows: this makes total sense as using the powers to piggyback off of another realm's ability to shape its own reality in order to shape yours is mysterious as fuck and it's usually conducted far into the future when creatures just start unearthing this potential, after people/technology has evolved to the point where they notice they can pull this kind of shit off. and they'll probably be in space by then. If you really wanted psionics without jeopardising the setting (at least for now) and creating an immediate tone shift, you could timeskip the universe forward in order to segway for the human civilisation and shit to get acclimated to psykers for all this tomfoolery to happen, but that'd be kind of a dick move. Another option is to create a xenos species to do it, but everyone's going to want to play as them and it'll have a load of lore shittery attached, mostly based around the extent of their psionic powers if there's an entire race dedicated to it. Finally, as psionics would be expanded upon due to the "mysterious and malleable" element of it, lore would be pushed in a tremendous way to it and overall psionics would slowly become much more important until it's pretty much psionstation 13. Like it or not, this is a tone shift, and would also be a very large balance shift, in favour of the crew rather than the antagonists, which would force the antagonists to be made much more powerful, and overall both of this increases the likelihood of them deciding to kill each other the moment they see each other. I don't think this would have much roleplay benefit other than "look at my space magic" and a crapload of lore and would overall be a massive pain in the side to anybody trying to keep a coherent grip on balance. It sounds something great on paper. I don't think it'd be as good in practice. that's just my two cents though
-
What? No, this is ridiculous. The amount of power you would need to bend reality to your will is immeasurably powerful, and that shit doesn't just start happening globally everywhere. That and it'd shift the mood of the server with psionics being a thing, and make the application process a power thirsty powergrab to make their characters more special than others in comparison. That and the lore implications. Potentially you could rule that it'd work like the Warp in 40k, but even then, if you're using bluespace handwavium magick to influence the universe, why did we not find any signs of this sooner? Any idea that bluespace could pull this type of shit. Or maybe it's entirely unrelated, there still should have been some mention. Plus, with the way that this class system works, you have an idea that you'd be mastering this skill of the psychic shit. Except, if Psy powers were to spring into existence, nobody would know how to control them, much less use them in any meaningful way, or in the way you want to use them. And if you can control them so easily, why can't others do it? And what happens when you do you get better? What's the limit on BENDING THE FABRIC OF REALITY TO YOUR WILL. If you feel like your characters need to be more special, make them better, don't just be that one guy who can pull energy swords out of their ass because they're a psyker, and NOT have the courtesy to have a chance to be slaughtered in the ass by a Greater Daemon every time they try and pull that shit. (By the way: "wokeness". While you are worrying about relationship problems in the bar, Hitlercat continues to slaughter the rights of every Security Officer to hold .45 weaponry. #STAYWOKE, am I grandmaster nowe?) On a different note, this would be a cool idea for a wizard-like, but with psionics.

I really do think this kind of thing is an extension of the amount of time a person has put into their character, and seeing how long Raymond has been around, it's safe to say that he's very developed and has been made with a lot of thought. This can be a memento of that development. +1

+1. the SecHUD looks silly and unreasonable on most synthetics.

Player Complaint - Bath Salts Addict
Sytic replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I'd just like to mention that from memory, BSA was originally told to not jump to headgibbing so quickly, and was punished for it. In this situation, you were told the stakes, given a warning, given an actual tool of defense should you decide to attack, and were prepared for a fight from them with lethals on both sides. Yes, it may be poor roleplay for the leadup to the actual duel. It was the end of the round, they hadn't done any actual antaggery, they gave you the stakes and your line of defense. They hadn't actually done anything wrong besides the fact that he killed you, and in regards to headgibbing so easily, he was already punished for it. - His roleplay was bad (debatable, as our secret chat was nice, but you didn't see it so it doesn't matter as much). - He killed me. People die, and occasionally nobody can think of something stellar to do roleplay-wise. I talked to Noir that round and got good roleplay that would have only sprung up if he was an antagonist, but nothing station-affecting. Sorry that you died in the round, but you were plainly aware of the risks, and it was the end of said round. I don't think the roleplay behind doing it was fully explored, but he didn't immediately blow you away or anything of the sort. -
On one hand, playing here is a privilege and not a right. A mod has decreed "cease this fuckery" and declared a ban on you, and not for entirely wrong reasons. I think there were much better ways to handle the situation. EDIT: But not all of them were obvious to you at the time, and it's quite possible that the admin team has made that clear for the future. That said, I'll +1 the appeal because I think a month is a bit excessive. EDIT: Especially because they have learned their lesson at this time, methinks.
