[2 Dismissals] Remove or heavily revise cyborgification as a punishment
Sytic replied to Kaed's topic in Rejected Policy
Every time cyborgification happens, there is a roleplay issue between all parties involved in regards to "Do you support this? Do you not support this?" That's great. I love it. Keep it. -
It's gonna kill interest for playing if you're just killed, then told "haha git gud, die less". And if respawning is still a thing, then players can still use metaknowledge (and get banned for it), Making a mechanical restriction for a problem that doesn't exist is dumb. And if players want to put more and more efforts to "focus on surviving" you're going to get to a point where you swing to the other side of the pendulum and get more powergaming, not less. Players will begin giving their characters foreknowledge of events, broader skillsets and staying within metacliques to survive, potentially even using metaknowledge when they respawn. Against. P.S.: If you're going to instead kill the players' ability to ghost, how do I know if I'll even revive or get cloned? Am I just supposed to wait the entire rest of the round if I am an important position? (As if I ghost while occupying an important position such as a Head of Security, not knowing that I'd be cloned in the next two minutes, players are gonna be salty.)

I think if the breathalyzers' info was added to traditional health scans (as well as being separate for security purposes) I would entirely endorse this update.
-
I'm really interested in this, except two factors. - Any info you can get on a breathalyzer should be available on a standard health scan. - Both syndites and hextrasinel sound grimdark as well as highly illegal. Will these be represented as illegal, or will they be standard chems? Thanks.

Let me know if you move this forward/backwards at all. This intersects exactly with a Stars Without Number game I'm playing, although this seems pretty cool.

Gotta agree with Munks on this one. We already punish people for blatantly metagaming after death, so it doesn't happen (and when it does, they get banned. And players actually pick up on when they've broken the rules in this way, ahelp and then ignore whatever they've said for the purpose of the round. Followed by bitching/scolding/recommending in LOOC). So ghosts therefore have something to do while waiting to be ERT/Revived/Respawn. This just allows ghosts to see what's going on around their body, which they can already do well enough if they follow it, then promptly turn of ghostears and ghostsight to be able to only see what's around them. It's just extra steps, which I'll still gladly do (as I want to see what happens to me after I die, so I can see the neat roleplay that comes of it) if this is denied.

The Security channel is used more often than the Common channel. This is because a lot of communication goes on, and how to deal with the antags goes through the Security channel. If a loop had to be jumped to get information out, it'll be hopped through. The only people who will be at a detriment are the antags themselves, as they'll be less and less able to stay ahead of the curve, making encrypted radio a must-have item in order to get some semblance of what's going on. Just make it so it doesn't broadcast your name. -1.
-
It's quite easy to cannibalize the equipment you need to make any improvised weapon, if you really have to. Plus, civilians really shouldn't be, unless things are absolutely fucked. -1
-
A call centre seems needless for such a complicated station. Most likely, your radio would just change the encryption (and not require a more advanced radio device) and the telecommunications system would decide where to bounce this radio message to based on the encryption used. You could just make it so it doesn't broadcast your name.

this seems pretty radical

So if the Detective only has their gun for the sake of protecting themselves against their teammates (which is hilarious in and of itself) why did they have a gun... ever, before that? I'm not saying I want it to be removed, I'm just saying that if your only reason for the detective having a gun is for them to be able to defend themselves against their literal teammates, why would they have ever had a gun before then?
-
Just a reminder, report detectives who act like officers. The problem isn't the Revolver's, the revolver's for self defence as usually the detective isn't in their office like the Forensic Tech (safely in Sec) and his job is not to enforce the law, so he doesn't have any stun weapons. A detective who acts like an officer, especially with a lethal weapon, should be ahelped and potentially either made a complaint about or an IR about them.

Here's some more info about what's myth and what's fact about the modern ECT: http://www.health.com/depression/10-myths-and-facts-about-shock-therapy The only thing that is still somewhat unknown (and I admit this is a little bit of a scary concept) is why ECT works. The brain is the final frontier of modern medicine. Breakthroughs for ending a litany of medical mysteries from chronic pain to mental illness and a million things in between are just waiting to be unlocked by researchers. If ECT is effective now in its current iteration, I can only imagine what we will be able to do in 500 years when we can (more) fully understand the brain. In short, the concept that the ECT would have been a mismatch with realism for what 500 years from now might look like does not dovetail with current facts. But again, I don't believe it was ever merged. ECT was never merged. It was rightfully complained about and replaced with chakra, which is also debatable. The point that people have been raising is that, in this point in time, we should not be using debatable methods of psychiatric treatment. Neurology should be a hard field and actually explored further, as at this time it would have been a much more developed field, especially in regards to fixing trauma. Take away the Surgeon's ability to do brain surgery, rebrand the Psychologist to something different and give it the RP elements of psychiatry with the gamey elements of neurosurgery, which is a hard science. This is a leading field in fixing already existing traumas, so why are we looking at bringing in things that are debatable at best, and psychologically damaging (e.g. isolation) at worst? And why not talk about it, in the discussion thread linked into the fucking PR by someone else?

[Accepted] AmoryBlaine's Head of Staff Application
Sytic replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm. Really, really against Carmichael, as a character, becoming a HoS. He's a good foil character, because he's great at regulations and the like, but I feel like he lacks that sense of "when to get shit done"-ness that the other Head of Security's have. On the flipside, I think Amory gets heated as a player, but is overall a good one, and can probably pull of a Head of Security reasonably. I also think that if he played IAA, he'd be really fucking good at it. I'll give a tentative +1. P.S.: -
Right, I'm here to necro this thread, because hooooooooly fuck this was dumb. We've had multiple people register logical complaints around it, and then the PR was pushed anyways, without any report here. Without any fucking reason. That's horseshit, this whole thing is bullshit, and whoever made this PR can eat their own shit. The two things that were removed were exorcisms and electroshock therapy. Yet isolation therapy, which is essentially "the hole" but worse because you have to put up with a repeating ticking noise (Just a reminder, that's a prison punishment. Congratulations.) and completely unfounded hypnotism still exists. Both of these are stupid. Why not give the Psychologist specific access to neurosurgery and have surgery connected to fixing brain trauma, if you really want to give the Psychologist something to do as well as make it game and role-play friendly? Because right now, you've got crystal magical chair that has no documentation or reasoning behind it, and two completely unfounded and potentially damaging ways of fixing psychological harm. How did any of this get pushed.

It doesn't further reward these styles of play, is what I'm saying. And a team vs. a team fight is relatively common, with modes such as Revolutionary, Mercenary, Raiders, Cult and even some others in certain situations like WIzard, Traitor and Vampire all can involve one team going up against another team. I think further modifiers on intents is a good thing, but I dislike a lock-on system as a catch-all way of fighting. It makes projectile weapons clunkier as firing to suppress becomes negligible unless you have RNG of the gods, and doesn't fix the issue of RNG being the cornerstone of combat (not that I found it an issue). It also makes melee combat just that more infuriating, as you have to now get yet another click on some skittish, running bastard before you're actually able to hit him, leading to this weird staredown before beating each others' head in. I would actually like to see a laser combat with this, but that's just me.

It might be more skill-based to dodge or block, but I feel for the frames we run at, for the way we target limbs and do damage, I don't think it'll be a fluid system at all. You could just perpetually be on edge, ready to disarm anything by being constantly set to disarm. This can just be done by adding specific modifiers for things, without this whole lock-on system. I just really hate the lock-on, considering that if you're in an engagement with two people, or in a firefight with one team against another (which is a constant thing that happens) it's going to end up being a massive clusterfuck- a mishmash of intents. I don't think our current system is very good, and I like the modifiers for intents- I dislike locking on to targets, as it makes any sort of group engagement such a fucking hassle, because if one guy on your team goes down or you have one person less than them, you're automatically gonna let one guy on the enemy team be effectively immune to bullets, because if he' not locked onto then he's gonna have a much higher dodge chance. This wouldn't be a problem if clear communication was always available, but in a text game there's not much time to do on-the-spot strategy, and even less time to see it in the haze of gunfire. This system rewards players who will either gank security in solo engagements as antags such as wizards or ninja, while also rewarding Sec constantly all rushing at the antag as one to beat the shit out of them as a collective. It further reinforces the idea that wizards or ninjas should deck solo members of staff, while also telling antags in groups or Security in general that mobbing the shit out of the antags is a solid way to win.

Chronicle of a Suicide Foretold, by Paris Fawkes

This is entirely too cool to exist, so I'm gonna give a -1. just kidding, this is a +1 from me- I like the story behind it, I like the player playing it, but most of all I like the sprites. They're just awesome.

Jorge Moberly's Armband (Possibly available to all?)
Sytic replied to Korinra's topic in Denied Apps
The actual item for the "Medical Armband" on the station however identifies you as a member of the Medical staff. You might want to call it something else, like a Patient Armband or whatever. -
Jorge Moberly's Armband (Possibly available to all?)
Sytic replied to Korinra's topic in Denied Apps
being mute in a department that requires clear, constant communication and teamwork -1 (It's come to my attention this may be for patients in general, not medical itself. This isn't clear by the term "medical armband", which is to identify Medical personnel.) -
[Skull132-Added to PR] Give mice the ability to bite and other things

BURN BABY BURN. Ironically, it's not usually the fire in phoron fires that kill you, it's the combination of pressure and toxins. Also, yeah, buff the fire extinguishers when fighting actual fires, and even slimes (preferably). +1
-
Brain trauma should be serious per condition, you shouldn't just get loaded with a fuckton of them every time you take too much brain damage. It should be a gradually affecting thing, something that gets worse over time- stages of individual traumas, not just packing on more traumas whenever you reach thresholds. Also, Isolation Therapy is fucking retarded.

Very nice to bounce feedback off of, a very good synth lore deputy and a great player in general. +1 from me.
