[Accepted] Kermit's Vaurca Application
Roostercat replied to kermit's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I thought the name was familiar when I saw Faith Windsor there! Anyway, thanks for applying. First things first, I love the backstory. It really puts the weird VR of Mouv into a good perspective, and the way its worded shows me you really put the effort into it. First things first, I'd like to clarify something. In this department, the minimum any given vaurca would probably be taught is basic manners (how to say hello, how to not immediately offend somebody etc) and so on as to not embarrass the hive and to keep the Vaurca socially productive. Outside of that, the amount of training they receive in the Social department is really up to the player, so if you want a Vaurca that only knows a little about the Skrell and Humanity but is otherwise ignorant of what's going on with the other species, go for it. Just make sure not to give in to the pitfall that is making your vaurca negligent to it via acting like a three year old, (which I don't expect you to do anyway) and you should be fine. Now then, time for questions. 1) What is Lyrk's view on the other two hives? 2) What does Lyrk think of the more conventional VR realms as compared to Mouv's data ocean? 3) Does Lyrk follow a religion? If not, what do they think of the religions as a whole? -

I still think it is very weird that Zavod is dropping medical and is now getting an engineering subsidary out of nowhere, personally. Would rather they stay as is.

Adding Vannatusks, a strong hostile mob to the caverns.
Roostercat replied to Mcspizzy's topic in Completed Projects
Upon doing some testing in the thunderdome, at 350 health it appears this thing can solo a warform. This thing is way too powerful. It also took almost a full particle SMG (which are usually near instakill weapons) and also a full laser shotty. Please god tone this down, since atm this is just something to encourage PKs -
If more slots is a hard no, it should be a physician alt title. Given Nurse was always the easier to understand one and didnt contribute that much to the problems the millions of other alt titles gave, I don't think it would be that much of an issue.
-
As for them having an overlap with physicians, that is not the point. At this point there isn't a lot other jobs are going to do mechanically unless we actually get new mechanics. The point here is ROLEPLAY variety. Medbay players vanished in droves after the alt titles were removed because, at least in my opinion, physician and surgeon generally blend and get rather boring roleplay wise after so long. They have the same perspectives.
-
I doubt one person has the final say over the matter unless they are a Headdev or something. Plus I'd like to know the actual WHY if that is the case. I see no real reason Nurse shouldn't be added in.
-
Physicians can still do surgery to an extent, and there are not always surgeons around. Nowadays medical is actually a tad empty, in fact. From an RP standpoint Nurses would likely be handling aftercare and the like, which is more or less just explaining what happened, answering questions etc. with a different perspective than a physician would give. Otherwise the role of assistance is a lot more valuable than one thinks at a glance. A nurse can help in surgery, doing CPR and medications or the like, freeing up actual physicians to do things with other patients, so the entire medical team is not too busy with a single patient.
-
I do not consider 'bloat' a valid reason to not add something. I believe the Nurse role would add some much needed Variety, as with just Physicians and Surgery, medical RP right now is all very samey. A nurse perspective would likely help with this a lot. With science there are so many different areas of it, and so many mechanical things to do, that flavoring it with one role is really easy. But medical is much more mechanically restricted, so just flavoring them as doing something else is really not viable. Putting specializations into your character that are not mechanical is a one way track to being disliked for refusing to do certain things your job is supposed to do.
-
I believe it would be beneficial to re-add the Nurse role to medical, not as an alt title, but as its own role with two slots. ( amount of slots can be debatable tbh) Now, the real question is why? Back when Nurses WERE still a thing, I found them to be the best conductors of roleplay in the medical department. They often did any aftercare with patients, they were usually with them the whole way, and they usually answered questions as well. Their lessened responsibility (to an extent) also aided in this. As for what they can do, I would say that Nurses are capable of doing anything other than Surgery. I know there are fears of the dreaded chart making a return, but for all intents and purposes, I consider "everything but surgery" pretty simple to remember in this instance. Nurses are valuable roleplay opportunities. They may not have THAT much differentiating them mechanics wise, but character wise they can change a lot. Physicians and surgeons think of things different than nurses do most likely, and this adds some much needed variety to the three role department as it is now. Role wise they can likely play something like a support role. They can patch people up as needed, but a lot of the time they assist in surgery with things like CPR, medication and vice versa, freeing up physicians to handle other patients. I find this to be a relatively simple re-addition to the game, but one I feel would be very beneficial to the department and the server as a whole to spice things up a little bit.

Desven's Bug Deputy Application
Roostercat replied to Desven's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Well, I said a decision would be made if no other apps were submitted over the weekend. And here we are at the end of the weekend. no Just kidding. Even though you are the sole applicant, you are still a very strong contender, even if you had opposition. Your passion for the bug lore is obvious to those around you, and you play your characters very well. Not to mention you have good ideas. Thus I am happy to accept this application and induct you into the cult known as Vaurca Lore! you poor fuck -
Vaurca Deputy applications are now open! The bug team is working on new things, and I felt like we could use another deputy in the days to come. That being said, we only have room for ONE deputy. Don't be afraid to apply if you still don't know everything there is to know about the bugs, it is not a requirement and is definitely not something I can ask as, when I was first a deputy, there were still PLENTY of things I didn't know. The worst thing that can happen is a rejection! I won't require some massive essay with a word minimum or anything, but in addition to the standard application, please answer these questions: What is your favorite Hive and Brood, and why? How willing are you to work with the other species teams on cool lore? (this one is especially important because almost all bug lore developments involve another team!) What is the first idea for a bug-centric event that comes to your mind? After those above three, I will now inform you as to one thing in particular I am looking for. One of the biggest detriments to bug lore as of the past year or so has been a lack of activity. I am not innocent of this, of course, but do know that activity is one of the major things I am looking for in an applicant! Once again, thanks for reading this, and don't be afraid to reply! No past experience lore writing needed (though it is appreciated and makes you look better) and the worst that can happen is not getting accepted. Good luck!

Thanks for the +1! 1. If anything, I'd want to change the fact that a lot of Vaurca technology is pure unobtanium, or the fact that their home planet is way out in the middle of nobody-knows where. It feels like a big inhibitor at times, and would be interesting to see change. I will not change it due to concerns about Vaurca being too powerful for what they are though, or at least I won't do it right away. If anything it'd be brand new tech they made in the spur and nothing they had before. probably. 2. Likely work with the other deputy to finish something he is working on already. 3. I believe that once the ball gets rolling, it will encourage people to look over bug lore, and make people apply if they like what they see. Simple as.

Thanks for responding! Now to squash your puny questions with my superior intellect (very cool). 1. I would run an Arc where one of the hives gets pissy with another hive. The main problem with this is finding a way to actually get the two hives close enough for them to fight, or maybe having it happen in Tau Ceti. It is a good chance to show the political complications between the hives in a world where it has had almost no showing of it since they arrived. As for the specific plans regarding hives, the C'thur would likely get more embedded with EE, the Zo'ra would try to become independent from Tau Ceti and NT in some form, and the K'lax continue to be authority simps, but high functioning ones that supply the Hegemony sugar daddy with better technology. 2. This is an interesting question, as each hive has diferent views on them. The Zo'ra more or less see NT as an employer, though they are thankful for what TC and NT have done to make their stay less of a pain in the ass. The K'lax are likely huge simps for Hephaestus and would likely be a considerable part of their engineering faculty in Hegemony space. The C'thur are the most interesting in this respect, as they are involved in both EE AND Eridani, and are playing two angles so to speak with the SCC and their main rival. If anything I would go with furthering the C'thur's connections to both and trying to pull some interesting moves out of that, likely tying into Hive vs Hive political drama. 3. I believe I will be able to! I know when to take a break, and after the mod trial I will probably sit back for maybe a week or two before going on. The main reason burnout occurs is repetition and from doing too many things too fast. The latter in this case is the more worrisome as with being a mod and a Developer things can get busy very fast, but luckily I was more or less prepared for this anyway when I applied for mod given I was already the Vaurca deputy and the main person everyone went to with questions.

Ckey/BYOND Username: Roostercat12 Position Being Applied For: (Wiki Maintainer, Lore Developer, Deputy Lore developer): Vaurca Lore Developer (very cool) Have you read the Lore Team Rules and Regulations wiki page? Yuh Past Experiences/Knowledge: I have been one of the Vaurca deputies since November of 2019, and through my tenure I have done quite a lot with the rest of the team. Helping to write arcs, give feedback, and work with other species devs to make cool things with the bug boys happen. I also like to believe I have been one of the more active bug writers through my time, and am usually the first person people go to with questions. Examples of Past Work: Writing a tidbit about Shapers on the Vaurca religion page. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vaurca_Religion) Removing C'thur's instant avowals. Writing the arc about Mars exploding. Helped write a conspiracy that, unfortunately, fell apart later in its life. Rewrote the Vedhra page. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vedhra,_Princess_of_Configurations) Created the Lii'dra page. (https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=The_Lii'dra) Made a bunch of new augment sprites and paid for other bug related PR's. Ran an event during the KOTW invasion involving a bug squad and a warform with Yonnimer. This isn't everything I have done, but a good chunk of it. Additional Comments: The State of Vaurca Lore Right now, unfortunately, I would say that Vaurca lore has stagnated at best. Following an uptick in people playing the species, nothing has really....happened. This is mostly due to me being inactive as life had gotten a little cuckoo for cocoa puffs at the time, but the important thing is that its too slow. I plan on making some things happen with Xev to get the ball rolling again soon, but doing so as the Vaurca Dev instead of as the Vaurca Deputy can only speed the process up. As it stands, Vaurca lore is in an interesting position where they are not really expected to be doing much, meaning that while most other species have things going on already that they have to follow, such as the Tajara having political discourse or the Skrell with the election, the Vaurca are a bit of a blank slate so to speak. We have the flexibility to make more or less anything happen with the species, which means we have the best opportunity to drive the lore with power. Adding to that, Vaurca are also arguably the most involved with multiple species at a time, since all three hives are sucking up to a power of some kind, with the Zo'ra being in Biesel, the K'lax in the Hegemony and the C'thur in the Jargon Federation. This gives a lot of avenues to play into both with their species arcs and arcs of our own. What do I like about it right now? As I said before, Vaurca lore is in a fantastic position to get things rolling, if only because nothing is actually happening yet. We could start discourse between the hives, add fluff about them expanding, or work with almost any of the other species teams barring Tajara on a brand new Bug Arc involving the rest of the Spur. On top of this, we have plenty of background lore already in place, this is useful both because its a good base to build off of, but it also gives us just enough information to make new things up that fall in line with what we already have, or to simply expand upon them with IC progression arcs, to show the bugs are actually doing things. And my favorite part is that we have a decent antagonist faction simply sitting around. I like the Lii'dra a lot, especially because, unlike most antagonist factions, they are one almost everyone has a justified reason to hate. Instead of having a complex moral dilemma between factions over one semi-hefty enemy, the Lii'dra often make everyone focus on one fairly powerful foe instead. This may sound less exciting than the former, but the former in itself can become old simply due to it happening so often. The outlook with the Lii'dra is a fresh perspective that isn't played on very much, and if done right can hit just as hard as anything else in the narrative. What do I dislike about it right now? There is not a terrible lot I dislike about it right now, in truth. While there are some things, there isn't a lot that I distinctly hate other than the fact that nothing is happening (which is more my fault than anyone else's). Of the things I do dislike however are the fact that all of the hives are fairly spread apart, and it is difficult to find a way or even a reason for them to be in the same spot. The only one place they really intersect with eachother is in Tau Ceti, but I would like it to be otherwise. We have all the political drama with the three but nowhere to really use it without an asspull or two. What do I plan on doing about it? The most important question. The main plan is simply to get things rolling. I want to show the bugs actually are making progress with their relatively new living arrangements. This could be simple expansion, maybe colonizing another planet, Athvur building a commercial fleet etcetera, anything to show the bugs still exist and matter. Beyond this, I plan on involving the bugs in more arcs in the future. Or at least trying to. The tricky part here is that I have to do it in a way that doesn't step on another team's toes, which is difficult due to just how involved the bugs are in everything, and being one of two species that do not have their own nation. This means that just about anything the bugs do have an impact on a different team's 'territory'. There is also the worry of the bugs becoming so involved they start to overshadow the original purpose of the arc, which in most cases isn't revolving around the bugs to begin with. This is a situation I wholeheartedly want to avoid. All in all, I believe myself to be the best candidate for bug developer as I have been here for the longest of the two deputies, and have made quite a lot of progress with the bugs as it is. Vaurca are currently the least played species period, and I aim to change that by making them relevant again. The best way to aid this goal is becoming the developer, which gives me more power to get things done, and by extension more motivation to just do it already. Either way it goes, thanks for taking the time to read this giant block of text!

Basic Information Byond Account: Roostercat12 Character Name(s): Jaquelyn Roberts, Za'Akaix'Crono Zo'ra AI Name(s): N/A Discord username + tag: Roostercat#8032 Age: 19 Timezone: EST When are you on Aurora?: Most of the time when I have free time, in a different tab if not actively playing. Free time being when I am off work and not occupied with something else like another video game. This will probably get a little rocky when I start college classes in a few months, but it shouldn't be anything too bad. Experience How long have you played SS13?: I have been around since about 2016, give or take. How long have you played on Aurora: My account was made in 2017 where I played for some time before taking a long hiatus and coming back in 2019-2020. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I have been around long enough to not even need the wiki when it comes to mechanics, and also get mechanics questions all the time in regards to Vaurca. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?:Nope. Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?: Yep. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have not. Huzzah. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 because I believe it does a fairly remarkable thing in that it balances RP and gameplay to a fun standard. Most of the time 'RP' games tend to either go full into either text roleplay or basically a regular video game with character stats. SS13 is a very good medium for striking both, with the pixelated nature allowing for text to describe what's happening, and the gameplay mechanics working well to actually do the things being described. It doesn't feel like you are just completely making things up, as your gameplay shapes how situations play out 100 percent of the time. Why do you play on Aurora?: It is the only server I really consider to be HRP. Most other 'HRP' servers are littered with either horrid staff, a horrid community, not even being HRP in nature, or having ERP. I don't see Aurora as having any of these issues, and it has fun, engaging, and constantly changing lore to boot that makes it feel like an actual universe. What do moderators do?: Moderators have two roles in my eyes. One is to deal with problems that arise between players or in game mechanics when they show up, punishing people who break the rules or mediating conflicts between two people. They ultimately can shape people's enjoyment of the game and can have a massive effect on one's perception of any server. The second function is to guide new players and answer questions people have, since there is no real defined role for doing such, the task often falls to staff in general, moderators especially, through things like ahelps. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Being a moderator for Aurora is essentially a promise to help new players into the server, and to make sure people adhere to the rules for the sake of everyone's enjoyment. They are often the 'face' of Aurora so to speak, and can be the first people turned to when trouble comes, or a new player needs someone to help them get a grip with the mechanics. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I've been here for quite a while, and while I feel my tenure on the lore team has been fantastic and has shaped the server's lore plenty, I feel becoming a moderator is a good step towards really helping the server improve. At first I treated Aurora as just another thing I did in my free time. But recently I have come to realize that I interact with Aurora's community far more than any other community on the internet, and I talk to friends I have met within Aurora on a daily basis. Hell, damn near HOURLY basis. It has become a greater part of my life than I could have imagined, and I want to work to make it better, first through lore as a deputy, now through....pretty much everything else minus development as a mod. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I like to think I am fairly patient, having very rarely ever gotten heated at anybody OOCly. I am capable of seeing multiple sides to any given argument and take my time when going over things people have done. I have had experience with all three during my time as deputy when players do unsavory things with their Vaurca characters. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I handle them fairly well. As mentioned before, I don't really go off the handle at people, and should I have a problem with them, I will either make a complaint or simply explain in a calm manner what the problem is, trying to do so in a way that doesn't just seem like insults with no constructive feedback. Anything Else You Want to Add: yuh

Haydizzle is probably one of my longer running friends on the server, so my views may be a teeeeeensy bit biased, but I believe Haydizzle is the best pick for loremaster out of the current nominees. He is pretty much always active, always down to handle questions and very rarely forgets to do things (for long). He's always been wonderful to work with and I do not think I have ever genuinely seen him get angry at someone, making his attitude great for lorewriter. He is also capable of shitposting and being serious at the same time. So a huge +1 from me. THAT BEING SAID, I do have a question that pertains to events. Over the several arcs we have had with lore, one topic of note is that they tend to have quite a lot of violence and death, especially the Bad Moon arc. While this can be a good thing, it often brings up the question of whether the death can get to a point of it being a very negative thing, as chars can't roleplay the aftermath if they are dead, it gets too grimdark etc. So, my question is: What do you consider good for an event content wise? More violent and adrenaline-heavy stuff? Or calmer things that, while they can be dangerous, they mostly serve to give cool experiences and drive the story? Note: this is in the context of event ARCS, not just one-offs.

Omicega -- Human Lore Deputy Application
Roostercat replied to Omicega's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Omi is a person that I have an overall positive opinion on. They do have their uh oh gamer moments, but the vast majority of the time they are fairly agreeable, and Omi's attention to the lore is very noteworthy. Not to mention we desperately need to do something with Elyra, and the fact he wants to tackle it is the icing on the cake. Though I do have some questions because why not. Do you plan on fleshing out Elyra's opinion on Vaurca at all? Such as more detailed history on the Lii'dra attack or how said event has shaped the culture of the nation? -
DanseMacabre's Human Lore Deputy Application
Roostercat replied to Kintsugi's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Hiya Danse. Nice to see you going for the application, but I do have a concern. It isn't exactly secret that you focus quite a lot on Sol, and multiple times I have seen you say that the lore would be better without the aliens or some variation thereof. I am not sure if the latter is just shitposting or not, but I feel I still need to ask how open you would be to working with the other species devs regarding arcs and the like, and how you plan to shape Human lore to work with the other alien factions, as they are just as important as the Human ones. This is not meant to be a gripe or anything, just something I would like clarification on, specifically the anti-alien thing, as I legitimately don't know if it was a joke or not. Thanks! -
THAT ISN'T HOW YOU FUCKING SPELL IT AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
