Hydroponics - Feedback from hydro players
Roostercat replied to CourierBravo's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I think a big problem with the more neglected parts of the server (science, some parts of service like janitor, machinist) is that they don't have something that has replayability/ a task that can be focused on whenever throughout the shift and is optional. I'm really not sure how to word it, so let me give an example. Science used to (or at least I think this was removed) have circuits, which were completely optional and didn't have much of an effect on the round, but if you CHOSE to sink time into them, you could do really cool things, like make little drones or the funny smoke gloves. I know multiple people who played science just for this and I personally even sunk a good bit of time into it a few years ago. Its optional, but it is only limited by creativity. Another solution is just more things they can do to pass time between big things during the round, such as cargo having the mail packages they can deliver to away sites if they choose. Its something to do and the interactions involved (getting people to help etc in this case) can drive RP. For botany, I think a solution to this could be either the addition of utility plants that perform some form of function (one I can think of is a plant that cleans the atmosphere of toxins naturally or a fungus that eats mess on the floor and then dies off, maybe a plant that produces leaves capable of being a replacement for gauze). This gives botany an actual goal to work toward in addition to just supplying the bar and kitchen with stuff. Ideally something that can be influenced with creativity on the player's part would be best, but I'm not really sure what could be implemented to follow that without just being xenobotany. -
How to revive checkpoint mallcops and bully janitor mains
Roostercat replied to Lmwevil's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I'd say a better place for a checkpoint is to replace the little library room below the library proper with one, since the hallway down to service is an actual chokepoint that still has an out (command stairs) for antags that look for one -
Hi. Me and @Jasorn are taking this. Will post more soon.

As someone who plays medical, I definitely agree with this. The medical scanner is a very uninteresting way of finding problems, on top of it also presenting problems with more flavor stuff such as "welp, didnt show up on scanner!" I think having more manual ways to figure out problems would be a net positive, both for more interesting gameplay AND more interesting roleplay. That and you can usually skip the scanner anyway if you really know the medical system.

This is a discord ban. Not a community ban. Like I said in the ban reason, you can make an appeal. Furthermore, I do not think it takes much effort to not be a dick. It isn't that arbitrary. You made a snipe at another player, and got striked for it. You then mocked the strike, and I applied a perma ban because that's basically just breaking the rule twice and telling me that it's a matter of time before you just do the same thing again. You also have a pretty bad history of saying off the cuff stuff on discord and then getting mad when your actions do, in fact, have consequences. That said, I completely stand by the ban. Nobody told you to make a snipe, nobody told you to complain about the strike after. You are quite literally the person causing conflict and unneeded strife, and no matter how you spin it, enforcing the most simple rule we have is not censorship.

hence the reason this thread was made probably I am a strong advocate that the drama about charts was mostly whataboutism and not actually a problem. Of all the arguments, 90 percent of them were "what if this happens" scenarios that really didn't matter and were likely pretty easy to solve in actuality. If people can't understand a basic chart, they should re-evaluate what job they play. That said, I think a chart for this sort of thing would be fine, or harsher enforcement of lanes (ie telling surgeons to let physicians handle shit first and only step in if they arent in round or are otherwise unavailable.) There is no real way to know for sure if people would or would not take them. And besides, having the choice is nice. As for the development blackhole, peppermint brought up fluff diseases that DO show up on scans. This would be nice and im sure its possible to do. I think calling it a development blackhole is a bit pessimistic in that regard.

Everyone, keep in mind that what sheeplets is looking for is "It'd just be nice if they had more stuff that only they can do, so nobody has to worry about accidentally taking away their work." This is not a thread discussing whether or not physicians/surgeons should be replacing pharmacist. Sheeplets is trying to brainstorm new things that ONLY physician can do to make them more unique. One idea I have is the addition of new slightly mechanical/fluff disease processes through character creation that the physician can interact with. Think diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, things like that. They aren't terribly likely to send characters to med hell (okay pulm fibrosis might) but they provide a nice reason to go into medical to see the physician.

Hi. Given you short note history, I'm willing to give you a final chance. Do know however that generally the third perma is always unappealable, so please read the rules and do your best to follow them.
-
As someone who used to be a maintainer, I do not think this is a good idea purely because - 1. It can completely curb some character concepts 2. The lore staff already have a million and one things to keep track of, having to keep track of Hazels specifically just because they are a popular character theme would delve into the realm of way-too-nitpicky and not worth the effort.

[Accepted] Unban request - Lynxsolstice
Roostercat replied to LynxSolstice's topic in Unban Requests Archive
I am willing to lift this ban. You need to understand, however, that you are effectively on your last legs here. You need to evaluate how you talk to others and about others in both discord and ingame, as the vast majority of your history involves some form of poor OOC conduct. Appeal accepted. -
Not handling the complaint since, well, I can't as a secondary, but I will post this. The complaint was exclusively about how the situation with 2IC XO was handled. Your post was 90 percent explaining your opinions on 2IC XO in general and didn't really discuss what the complaint was about to begin with. This makes it off-topic and not relevant.
-
Hi. From what I can see on this complaint, you did just try to drag away the welderbomb and even admitted fault in your own screenshots, with a video for evidence of you doing it. The only thing to note here is that I think this constitutes as metagaming, and not powergaming. At least in the context of trying to bodyblock lasers. I will see about getting the wording changed. Otherwise I don't really see any problems with what Bear did here. If anything given your history he was rather lenient with only giving you a temporary ban. If there's nothing else, I will close this complaint soon.
-
Hi. Sorry for this taking so long, people are busy and so on. As Bear stated, the policy of permabans states that you are not able to be unbanned due to, more or less, running out of chances. It is rather difficult to accrue this many offences leading to so many bans without intentionally ignoring the rules for a long period of time and the multiple permabans show that you did have multiple chances to change, and thus I don't really see a reason to entertain this complaint further. If you would like to change the permaban policy, a better way to voice your concerns would be in the suggestion forums. If there's nothing else, this will be locked and archived at the end of the day.

I agree with the notion that the removal of Science's protogun loop would be a very bad thing. The department is basically dead as is and largely consists of pressing buttons on the vending machine that is the protolathe to give people toys and the protogun loop is the only truly customizable thing they have left (not counting Xenobotany which is its own job anyway). Nowadays, the mentioning of a possible addition in the future means effectively nothing. There have been plenty of times where someone has stated something will be added later, and then it's forgotten about. The rest of the idea seems fine to me, though. More standard ammunition and so on is a net positive in my eyes. I do think that if caseless is going to exist, it should be either rare or expensive, or even both. How one would go about that, I don't know.

I think this is a good idea, though I do disagree with a couple of the cameras. Namely, Interrogation Monitoring (its a place likely to have shit go down), Bar Backroom (its relatively open anyway and is generally viewable from the hallway anyway), and Private Lounge (public space, unneccesary to remove the camera here), Hydro garden (has access to command stairwell), and medical equipment storage (has too much shit in it for it to NOT be monitored). Otherwise, good suggestion.

[Accepted] Imogen's Book of Guilty Men

I completely forgot to actually respond to this again, but your reasoning for having the book satisfies me, more or less. Accepted. -
[Accepted] Imogen's Book of Guilty Men
Roostercat replied to The_Ill_Fated's topic in Completed Items
Hi. I'm on the custom item app team. My main question is why is a consular for Xanu carrying around a book that effectively trashtalks the CoC's government? It makes sense for radical ideals to be present to an extent, but I'm not sure it makes much sense for someone representating a nation to be permitted to carry around a book that shit-talks the government. -

Hi. Given your tone and the fact you politely asked me about it on the discord, I think I'm willing to give you another chance. Do note that you are still on thin ice due to the sheer amount of notes and warnings you have. If you ever have doubts about the rules, be sure to ahelp!

Bear is one of those people that anyone who's been on the server for a while almost certainly knows, and he's also someone that rarely ever has any issues regarding the rules or general behavior, and I also consider him a friend and fellow shitposter. For the good of the impending Garfield ethnostate, I give a good ol' +1

Player Complaint - Quiet Cowboy
Roostercat replied to La Villa Strangiato's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Hi. I have returned with a verdict. While some of the things Cowboy does can be seen as distasteful, IE the rejoining the round and rolling antagonist again, nothing on this complaint is actionable in the context of the rules. It is not against the rules to re-roll antag or rejoin the round, and they are things that are mechanically supported. I would suggest pushing for getting these changed mechanically if you are unhappy with them. As for their roleplay conduct, we can not punish people for having, in your opinion, sub-par roleplay skills. It would effectively be seen as a sort of roleplay elitism gatekeeping, as it were, and is simply not actionable via the rules. Generally, when we punish people for LRP conduct, it's when attempts to roleplay are not even made to begin with or when things are extremely out of the ordinary I.E. some assistant begging for meth from the pharmacist or something. Cowboy is still attempting roleplay, so this is not punishable. As for the claim that they jobhop to assistant, I don't really have evidence for this so the best thing I can say is to ahelp it when it happens so staff can deal with it. Overall, I won't be taking any action against Cowboy, and this complaint will be closed tomorrow unless anyone has anything more to say. -
Your conduct over the past year in particular has painted a picture that you do everything in your power to act combative toward staff in virtually every ticket you are in. This goes so far that almost every single ticket involving you (that you did not make) ends up being a staff complaint because you are that resistant to somebody telling you you are wrong, even if the ticket doesn't result in punishment. This is not the kind of behavior that ends well with someone on the staff team. Your reaction towards the first and until then only -1 on your complaint was to immediately accuse Read of metagrudging and then go dredging up logs. This only further shows your attitude towards people saying anything about you that isn't strictly supportive. Bottom line, you take everything as a personal attack, and that is a bad quality for a staff team member. Someone giving a negative opinion on your application, which they are perfectly allowed to do as the point of an application is partially to garner feedback, is not metagrudging or a 'personal attack'. This does not have any bearing on what you could do in the future. A week and a half is not a very long time. I think this is very untruthful. If you did not take it as a joke, you would not have sent a joking reply, simple as. You are twisting this into the metagrudging angle you've fabricated to make Read look bad. Read has never been known to do this kind of stuff outside of a strictly joking context. Overall, I find your attitude to be unbecoming of a staff member. Your response to any conflict/negative feedback to your decisions, gameplay or otherwise, is to take it as a personal attack and try your hardest to paint the other person as some kind of harassing metagrudger. We are volunteers who do what we do for the sake of the server we enjoy. We do not have the time nor the care to go around personally attacking people because we felt like it at the time. Hard -1

Personally, I've found it a little goofy just how overtly hostile Sol is most of the time. They seem to make irrational decisions all the time for the sake of conflict, and the endless tide of Sol antag gimmicks doesn't help that feeling. I think Sol consular would alleviate this as it grounds them a bit more and also gives the endless Sol gimmicks something to at least play off of. I also feel its been long enough since the invasion and wildlands wars to allow them back in some capacity.

Player Complaint - Quiet Cowboy
Roostercat replied to La Villa Strangiato's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Hi. I'll be handling this complaint. As with most every complaint I handle, I will throw out a reminder to only post if DIRECTLY involved. Which in this case is pretty much just Lavilla and Cowboy. DM me if you want to post something and are not sure if it counts as involved. (On discord, not forums, I won't see it)
