[Accepted] A_Big_Bear - CCIA Application
Nekonyan123 replied to Bear's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I'm seconding this app. Bear is a nice guy, always engaging with the community and aiding new player in LOOC. Really liked most of their chars and I think they would be a perfect fit as CCIA; they are a good roleplayer and always pay efforts in each game. Give them a chance! -
stop sweeping maintenance the second the round starts
Nekonyan123 replied to Butterrobber202's topic in General
I'm against this because it makes sense for security to inspect the tunnels. Those are less-crowded places of the station that are usually a good ground for shady activities and hazards such as blobs. It just makes sense for someone in charge of asset protection inspecting those tunnels along all of the station. If a player is doing this maliciously, then they should get bwoinked, but I don't get it why someone that is ICly in charge of protecting the station and the crew should not inspect the tunnels; it is rather obvious if you gonna find contraband you gonna find it there, and furthermore, it is to each player's choice to decide wich is contraband and wich is not. If you would find an armor vest or a box of granades in a building site? Or in your workplace back alley? I mean, as a sec player, I do not collect EACH contraband piece, I usually take just the thing that screams "I SHOULD NOT BE HERE", like the armor or a balaclava. This kind of hate towards sec player should stop: if you think someone is breaking the rules report them, if not, just let them be; you can't force other players to play the game the way you want them to play. -
Character Feedback: Vesper
Nekonyan123 replied to BoryaTheSlayer's topic in Character and Concept Feedback
Vesper was a lovely character, she interacted with quite the cast from my characters, nearly all of the main ones and some minor chars too. I was a bit sad when she got terminated. -
I mean everyone should be able to make their char wear what uniform they like, I do not see the point of removing things.
-
If we really need to remove sec borgs, we should add a replacement like that pacifier they talked about. Security needs a stationbound that can help them open doors and achieve other tasks, other than being a relay with the AI and a mobile camera to look at.

For the Warden: 1. Issue any equipment as requested by the Head of Security or the acting Interim. It is important to issue weapons and armors to ISD, to ensure they can get an edge should the situation escalate to the point there is a firefight going. You are equipped with a megaphone you can lend to the negotiator for easier broadcasting to the hostage takers, plus, there are medical supplies at the Brig you can hand to the responders to be ready to give first aid should the situation require such. There are deployable barriers in your armory. Those are useful to block off tunnels or create hold-ups for your team. You can also have them place and flip tables and tape off the area for further area control, wich is an important part of an hostage situation. 2. Remember your role on the ISD. You are not a Security Officer, you are the Warden in charge of the Brig, the fortress you must guard and defend at all times. A good Warden is not taking all them good guns and running at the hostage like an hero. Usually, a Warden is not supposed to respond to calls, only doing so when there's no prisoners in the Brig and they got permission from their heads or command staff to do so. Of course, if the situation is dire, you can give some backup, but remember that your main concern during a shift is the brig and the prisoners. 3. Prepare processing for incoming prisoners, if any. Sometimes your brave officers will bring you back a trophy, either an accomplice or the hostage taker. They are usually HuT (Held until Transfer), given that "i304 - Kidnapping and Hostage taking" is a red HuT charge. (More info here) As the Warden, you will be mostly in charge of their processing, introduce yourself as the Processing Warden and ensure they are aware about the situation. Try and be nice with them, but authoritarian too. It is important to mantain a balance between being nice and showing strenght, because this way they are less likely to cause trouble in the brig. What should you do: Tell them their charges, explaining that they will receive a proper trial after the shift, at the Odin. Explain that being cooperative, not causing hassle inside the brig, will result in benefits. Ask them if they are hungry or need water or medications. Process them in a timely manner, removing their ID to register the charges. After that, move them to their cells, removing their gear that must be stashed in the closed locker, making them wear the prisoner outfit. PDA should be removed if your boss thinks it is a good idea. Usually radio comms can be left on, if you did not get proofs that comms were compromised. If you think they are using an hacked radioset, give them a replacing one with common channel access. Prisoners should be able to use the common channel, so they can call for visitations and/o request something from you or other people (cook, barkeeper, librarian, priest etc). Allow them into communal brig, and be ready to revoke that privilege should they misbehave. What you should not do: Insult them or make fun of them. Beating them with your baton or anything else if they are cuffed or downed. Deny them medical aid. Cuff them to a bed. Send them straight into a cell without processing their charges into the console. Leave them without any food or water. 4. Guarding the prisoners for the rest of the shift If a shift keeps on going after the hostage situation, then you will most likely have an HuT prisoner that will spend the rest of the shift inside your brig. This is an important responsibility for a Warden, because you will have a person to look after for the rest of the shift: ensure they are safe, fed and content. Guard them from time to time to ensure they are not running away attempting escape, and talk with them, keep them company, not sitting alone in a cell with no one around for the rest of the shift. If the brig gets vented or is by any mean declared unsafe, ensure to drive them to safety. Treat your prisoners with respect and eventually you will have theirs, if they try to betray you, hit them where it hurts: revoke any privilege you granted them, showing them your dominance on the brig and the importance of a trust relation. 5. Preparing for the transfer Eventually, a transfer shuttle will be scheduled to end the shift. At that point, you will need to transfer your prisoners from the brig to the red dock. Coordinate with your fellow officers to get some help moving them. Usually, at this time every prisoner is cuffed to ensure they do not try anything during the transfer, and they do not beat eachother inside the holding cells, to avoid chaos. Ensure they reach their destination without attempting escape or causing trouble, and stash them in the holding cell of the dock until shuttle arrives. At that point, move them to the shuttle's holding cell and ensure they are guarded until the whole transfer. When the shuttle docks with the Odin, you might need to move them to the holding cell of CentComm, or the checkpoint might be closed for security concerns. Anyway, you did it for the shift! Take out some booze and celebrate! give some of that sweet booze to the prisoners too you violent cop arsehole

This lets me wonder about the different ways a player could approach a round. I understand it can be a bit disappointing when you have something in mind for yout shift, and suddenly an antag appears and change your plans. But I think the real big thing about SS13 is the concept that every round is different, that there's always a new story, and that great things can take place out of an accident, a misfortune or even another player breaking your eggs. I do understand that not all players are the same, but for me, when I join a round with actual goals in mind, and during the round something or someone forces me to act in a different way rather than following my fixed goals, I do not get mad or disappointed. I witness several players leaving the round and heading cryo the very moment someone steps in in their experience during a round and make it so things go in a different way. I can only hope this is a marginal behaviour and not something widespread across all of the community. Now, about your suggestion about removing Thralls. I did not had the chance to play as a thrall yet, (while I interacted with several vampire characters, that acted by the rules and did not cause any hassle) so I can only tell one side of the story, but I think thralls makes sense for a vampire, it is not a decision to take without taking into account the situation and the player you are thralling, of course, because that is a major change in their rounds that results in them becoming antagonists themselves. A responsible player should not go ahead and jump at their victims thralling them at the first chance, as, according to the rules, one should not powergame or just focus on winning the round without providing a solid roleplay story and contributing to the round. But I do not think removing them is a good idea, they are part of what a vampire can do, it would be like removing cultist their ability to convert someone into the cult. The victim should have the chance to decide to be or not to be a thrall, maybe that, but removing them, I am against that. I want new features added, not removed.

This is too nerfy... at least allow shovels to keep digging 3x3 tiles... Using a shovel after you are done with a mining trips gets you some good extra mining points to buy that sweet explorer belt and extra coolness. I am okay with other changes tho.

This seems a bit too redundant to me... perhaps remove the older bar post in place of a central one that works sort of an open bar thingy?

Have corp liaisons spawn on station, not the ODIN
Nekonyan123 replied to Yonnimer's topic in Archive
I think it makes sense for a Liason to be able to move freely from the station and the Odin, since they are supposed to serve as a link between the station and whatever organization they represent. Now, for sure, they are not supposed to use their shuttle to go tell Odin's staff that shit hit the fan onboard the station, but I think they should have a smaller shuttle to board the station. It makes sense for them to come from the Odin, and not spawn into the station, they are not common workers that gets onboard the station before the shift begins, they are a Liason that serve mostly a representative role other than being a worker. Maybe they should have a different shuttle, in order to allows CCIA to board too, and maybe make it so that the shuttle have a cool down or it does not work when the station is under code blue/red. -
This is my main concern regarding this... security cyborgs are fairly useful and can provide helpful hints to ISD serving as a relay from the department to the AI. I mean, I do not see why security cyborgs would deserve to be removed, the point of cyborgs is that they can fulfill almost any role inside the station as needed. Other than that, I like the idea of a development regarding synthetic issue, and look forward to partake in those events.

[Accepted] Naelynn Command Whitelist
Nekonyan123 replied to Naelynn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I had several interactions with the IAA and the RD played by Naelynn. She played very well those two roles, she interacted with two among my main characters, Laika Tupulev and Feng Huang. Her IAA Agent interviewed Laika after a report regarding prisoner handling, and the agent was very kind and professional with Laika, working not in order to find guilt, but to find a working solution both for the corporation and Laika herself. In the end she decided to solve the issue in a diplomatic manner, preventing any major issue. I also met her RD as Feng Huang, my main science character, the robotic RD, Curator, saved Feng from a Phoron exposure triggered by an anomaly, and Feng witnessed how the Director was caring and helpful for the scientists, helping them with their research and even fetching them additional equipment. Naelynn seems perfectly fit for command roles, being an inclusive and positive player, that does not discriminate anyone and tries her best (managing) at improving the roleplay and the fun of the round. In the end, I can say that those two positive interactions might confirm the good choice the staff made while allowing her to get command whitelist. I look forward for more interactions with her characters in order to broad and sharpen this review, that is, anyway, positive. +1 -

[Accepted] Nekonyan123's Unathi Application
Nekonyan123 replied to Nekonyan123's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hello, no problems on the delay. Glad you are taking the time to review my application. Yax follows the Th'akh religion, finding some relief on the idea that even if he was always an outcast, even someone like him shares with everyone a connection with the spirits of the past Unathi, the older kins that after death came to reside in a collateral spiritual world that exists together the material one. In fact, religion was one of the few things he could find a connection with his fellows orphans and kin; during the most important religious events, even them were able to partake in the celebrations, under the vigilant eye of the shamans of the town. Those are among few of the good memories of his past. He follows the doctrines of the religion, based off the local distinctions of his home town; that of course shapes his view of several topics such as the synthetics and so on. Let me know if I can answer other questions regarding this character! -
BYOND Key: Nekonyan123 Character Names: Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Albino White Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I found Unathi lore very appealing and rich, and I think that this gives me a lot of material to play around with in my roleplay. Unathis have different way of expressing feelings and social interactions, pretty more physically than humans. This means that you get a different degree of interaction with humans and non-human characters alike, because you can practically create deep situations between Unathi characters communicating to eachother with body posture and gestures while an human might not understand what is happening. The possibilities are large and I think that engaging myself with an Unathi character might improve my roleplay skills and let me find new ways of controlling my characters to contribute in a positive way to the server roleplay scene. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathis have a pretty different ethic and social culture than Humans, and while there might be some similiarities between certain times of human history with Unathi stratified societies and politics, the latter species have managed to remain pretty entrenched in their cultural history in a fairly more solid way than humans; the contact with foreign species has resulted very destructive for the Unathi, and eventually this led to changes in their society too. Role-playing as an Unathi means finding a compromise between the entrenched society the character grew with and the different, more open society of a Nanotrasen owned space station. This gives the player a draw board where to create different opportunities for roleplay and to create their own stories. Character Name: Yax'jarr Kuhwinla Please provide a short backstory for this character: Born 18 years ago in Sahhat, a town in the planet Ourea. He was abandoned by his parents for his appearance, pretty uncommon for the Unathis, in fact he is an Albino Unathi and his appearance has always been a problem for him since he was a child, because all of his kins would make fun of him and emarginate Yax for what genetics produced out of him. Her mother decided to bring him to an Orphanage, because his father, a middle class smith, wanted to kill him. So he was brought to the Kuhwinla's Clan Orphanage and there he remained until 17. He spent his childhood in a frugal and harsh environment; he often had to fight for a meal, and he was bullied by older Unathis. The Kuhwinlas tried many time to find a family for him, but nobody wanted him because his pale white skin. So he remained in the Orphanage until that age, eventually being introduced to his bill at the end of their life under the Kuhwinla. He was given two chances: either work in a Kuhwinla-owned labor camp or to get inside a soon-to-launch ship directed towards a NanoTrasen facility. The decision was hard, because he never imagined he'd had the chance to leave the planet and find a new life ahead, but eventually he decided to take the offer and leave the planet, travelling in space toward a NanoTrasen owned station. He was unsure about his decision, because he was always told that only cowards escape, and that one is supposed to stay and fight until it's over. In the end he accepted, because he understood that in his town nobody ever accepted him, and he wondered that maybe in space he could find some friends. So it began Yax'jarr's new life: he joined NanoTrasen with a contract to repay his debt with the Clan, being given basic training and assigned in the Supply department of NSS Aurora. He learned to mine rocks and haul crates, and eventually he was given a permanent position. Some months have passed and now he is not yet done with his debt to the clan: but he still hopes one day he will be free to do as he likes with his life and he is finally ready to write his own history now that he is no more on his planet. What do you like about this character? I like the courage he exhibited when he accepted Kuhwinla's offer. He left his society to delve into a new one, hoping to find his own way. His goal is to find a life he never had, one where he is accepted and loved for what he is. As a result of his childhood he grew a bit quirky and isolationist, because he was never accepted, and so he is somehow marked by his previous life. He will have to learn a lot of the new world he is entering, and while he might find difficult to make friends and learn more, he is for sure ready to fight for his right to live and have a pleasant life. The concept here is that he grew up in a difficult and different environment even from average Unathis, so he will for sure face many difficulties in his experience, but, as the character develops ICly, I hope he will eventually grow used to his new life and eventually he will be happy about what he became since he was a wrecked and poor kid that nobody wanted. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I have improved a lot since the past, and I think that the only way to improve is keep role-playing, eventually I will improve even more. Notes:
