Player/Character Complaint: Kaleb Rasam
Cnaym replied to Dark1Star's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Okay it's me again. Closing this player complaint and letting you know that the player in question was handled. Next time make sure to provide proper evidence as it helps us out a lot and makes the entire process faster. -
Player/Character Complaint: Kaleb Rasam
Cnaym replied to Dark1Star's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
@Dark1Star Okay, so the logs are from another round since neither of you two are in that round you posted. Please try to find one that shows the behavior you described. @Sgtmind Waiting for your follow up on this one if you want to still post it. It's usually preferred to have a civilised discussion about this. -

@Alberyk and I will be taking this. We would like to get a round ID or two to find specific instances of bad behavior. A comment from @Sgtmind would also be useful. -
Player Complaint- Contextual/Pennant
Cnaym replied to Bygonehero's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
After problems getting the right logs due to a missing round ID and little to no interaction in this thread I am going to keep the post on this one as short and precise as I can while trying to explain the verdict. Let's start out with Pennant's first complaint against the AI. The logs showed that Pennant was not ordered to pick Engineering or construction, but simple asked to pick one of the two. From my point of view there is no urgency to do so and they did not go against this order. This is every word that was exchanged in regards to the AI by the stationbound. Since no active alarms where found and stationbounds can monitor alarms remotely Contextual decided to not pick a module yet and wait for work to pop up. Pennant helps out the scientist that it knows with small tasks and RPs with them fine. After asked by the AI why they are sitting around near them, it explains over robotalk what it is doing and why. Instead of displaying any hostile intend they decide to RP that Pennant wants to work and is stressed about not being productive enough for the AI which is rather fitting for a simple robot. After this conversation the scientist decides to ask the AI why it is giving Pennant a hard time. What I see are two things here that will pop up again and again. You are clearly misjudging the situation and deciding that you know how they should act and behave. Instead of giving a simple order and seeing whether or not Pennant follows it or if it outright goes against it's laws you decide to call them shitborg in your ahelp and be openly hostile towards them ICly by telling them not to complain about you, which they at no point did. To the other points raised in this complaint. At no point did Pennant complaint about the AI. The phrase "I cannot complain" is used in every professional setting as a meaning that you either have no issue or that it is nothing to be discussed with external parties. How another person interprets this is up to them, but Pennant just outright stated and followed it's order. You clearly did tell Drwago so in your ahelp, calling Pennant a shitborg two more times without any evidence of them causing IC issues for your AI. You listened in to people, you where caught, you blamed another player for it. Now here's the kicker. Even after Alma outright ordered Pennant to ignore the AIs order to not complaint, it did not complain, neither tell people that you are listening in on them. It emoted flinching when you caught it saying that it's not allowed to complaint which would be hilarious if it happened with harmless consequences. In this instant you decided to force them to leave, have no more interaction with the scientist and outright telling Pennant that it is "a terrible unit" which brings me to the core of my issue here. Instead of asking ICly whether or not Pennant complaint you started calling them shitborg in the ahelp. Instead of asking whether or not Pennant was the cause that you listening in on people was found out you went after the player in your talk to Drwago. Instead of trusting a staff member to handle it OOCly you decided to use IC means to force another player to do what you want without any other reason than you thinking they where trying to harm your AI play. Two things about Contextuals side of the ahelp. They left the round and decided that it was simply not worth putting up with this kind of behavior, they even asked Drwago if this AI play was acceptable because it would lead them to outright stop playing Pennant anymore. The other thing is that they outright asked if this had any OOC reason, because they felt mistreated by you without any way of knowing who you where and still followed through with the orders about setting up cameras before leaving. I don't see many players bringing that level of patience with them when faced by situations like those. The usual response to this kind of synth play would be a straight up ban from that role. Given the fact that you clearly used IC means to take out your own OOC issues on them baffles me. You where caught doing shit, you where asked about why you are doing shit and your solution was to blame it all on another player. First ICly, followed OOCly in the ahelp and now on the forums. In addition your notes paint a really clear picture about you not keeping IC issues out of OOC and raging / salting frequently makes me question why you are not banned from OOC chat by now. Doing it the other way as you did in this round shows me that you have trouble dividing the two. You managed to ruin the round for someone who mainly plays as stationbound up to a point where they outright asked in the ahelp if your AI behavior was acceptable for this server and that they wouldn't bother to play as a stationbound anymore if it was. So after talking this over @Pratepresidenten and I have come to the conclusion to remove you from the community for outright toxic behavior. We'll be applying a permanent ban that you may appeal in four weeks from now on. Your other option here is to file a staff complaint which you will surely do. I personally urge you to take the time off and think about distancing yourself from ingame issues as much as possible. Gaming in and with this community should provide a fun environment to RP out characters that you and hopefully others enjoy with the goal to have a good time doing so. This will be locked and archived in 24 hours. -
Good meme Garn. Okay let's talk this over. The QM is one of the RP roles that is focused on being consistent and useful. That means I have three miners and not one of them gives a single fuck about QMs. So cutting of mining from them would already solve one of my main issues. Next step would be to ask what we want a QM to do. A cheff asking 50 people for dinner requests gets two responses and the QM gets even less if he asks around what people need. Access to the cargo account is a joke because everyone can work the console if they forget to close the program again. Deciding bonus payouts to people helping and miners selling? People tried, they where yelled at a lot. Teaching new CTs to do their job? They are able to do that if they want. Be relevant and have responsibility? Okay this one is hard for me. Not going to point fingers but the usual QM is the person who is either very new and wants to have power or the person you'd not want to see with a command whitelist at all. Now what would make them useful without making it a job that we really need to have a good player in? Guns to arm miners against carps would be funny, but people usually get nervous with having more guns around. Make decisions? What decisions? The usual QM is already trying so hard to decide things... And fails. QM would be a job I wouldn't miss at all really since it currently adds nothing positive for me. If you play one that is well known and handy with words, who command trusts and gives tasks and responsibility... Please tell me the name as I'd love to see them in game. But the way I experience them they should be added to the command whitelist or maybe only be able to become one via in round means -> HoP or Captain, before being given any responsibility.

That was a rather harmless meme about the shrink getting a guest pass to the brig to talk to prisoners and not aimed at the player at all. I was sitting in a cell and watching the fight. A captain with a shotgun and an officer with a laser gun against a tree with a submashine gun. Why there was a psychiatrist in there was not clear to me, but I didn't want to stop the entire scene. This was arround 1-2 minutes before server restart, so no ahelp was send on that instance. This is why I recommended a complaint in case this behaviour lead to a poor experience in that round.

Character Feedback: Approaching the Rain
Cnaym replied to Xelnagahunter's topic in Character and Concept Feedback
You gave me nightmares. Tree man bad! Like how Rain is always the good natured, well manered tree that is up for fun stuff. But never do 1v1 me in a maint tunnel again or I'll panic. ? We had a good REV round that described Rain really well. He went up against management while keeping his character in mind, he recruited me with the promise to keep it peacefull and invested into red dock repairs and bringing out people alive... while I went on to choke a captain to give Rain back his job Also have fond memories of raiding the cantina with you and bashing rats against my IPCs face: "They all taste crunchy, everything does." Loved it. The first diona who was ready for a race with my Xion Industrial. It was hillarious... I slum to the ground, Rain stops to ask if I need a hand ^^ good tree ❤️ Also make him engine tech. You learned your stuff. Your engine test will commence soon. -
We don't use light. We meta the shit out of materials + mesons to gank ERPers through windows.
-
How cool would it be to add yellow lights to the suits? Like.. stripes that glow outside? I really like the color plate, but I strongly agree with making miners visible outside. Another Idea would be to let them glow on material / meson scanners. Maybe as a hardsuit module for the RIGs, always enabled on the softsuits? It would make medical and minings work much more realistic and atmospheric.

[Denied] LordPwner's IPC Application
Cnaym replied to LordPwner's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
It's Urinal Evans. Good meme, good RP, good command member. Honestly only a few who can constantly deliver that good RP and decision making while still making the round fun for antags and crew. That said, what's up with your backstorry? That and the backstorry... why do you want to suffer? No seriously. If you will enjoy this character I'm giving you the +1 with all my heart, but I seriously would get bored to hell. Welp, maybe I'll learn how to enjoy the paperworks from you +1 -
[Accepted] Snoopy11 - Command Whitelist
Cnaym replied to Snoopy11's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The truth has been spoken. No honestly. Apps are hard, glad you wrote one. +1 Not only because I still wait for that one HoS to turn around the entire department, but because I think every good HoS does another step toward a better ISD. I trust that you will be one of those steps. I've seen you RP when all the guns where drawn, I've seen you keep a cool head when the salt was around and I've seen you be uplifting ICly when the rounds went south. Overall stuff I want to see from the HoS players. Only question that wanders around in my mind is if you will enjoy it. You are going to have to be a bit more strict, you'll be a rolemodel and a parent for the kids with guns department... I'll watch your trial with great interested and in hopes you not only make it, but actually enjoy it. -
Pushing a bit back on that one. For some reason the good AIs leave after a while. One of the reason being security shouting at them to much. Now JupiterStorm just caught the blunt of it. While most of us love her for being helpful, having deep knowledge, sending her borgs in time and building upon their strengths and so on... security felt that this AI just did not do the thing. There was rude behaviour ICly and OOCly. I'm honestly not sure how to fix a mentality problem since a slow but really well played AI would be a thousand times better than the silent door bolting one or the even worst all caps "VALIDS FOUND" Ai. That said... yes, a whitelist would help a lot in terms of getting shitters out of the malf slot. A stricter ruling on getting rid of bad AI players also helps. A combination of sorts may be hard to get running, but I think temporary job bans for fuck ups should be in place since the AI has so much responsibility to should... that would also require stricter and easier to understand rules on the wiki. Maybe even a button that tells you to read the rules, you have to agree to getting job banned rather quickly and only then can you enabled / chose that. Not sure how hard that would be to code, but it would create a soft barrier of "Hold on, am I ready for that?"

SCIENCE MAN BAD Now without the meme. We see you posting "your R&D list" frequently in LooC to other players and it's really not usefull. Beeing friendly and helpfull is neat, but your usual response is: My way or no way. Now I'd claim I played science once or twice now and I may even have tried to teach you ICly. The reaction ranged from incompetence to hostility. On to the QM then. I got told that I need to upgrade all my drills because they are useless otherwhise. Yes. They are. Always. I know. You told another staff member ICly that you keep contraband and weapons in the warehouse for later use. I strongly suggest the player base to ahelp stuff like that more often. I suggest you read our rules and get a feel for the servers atmosphere before bossing people arround. That's something that you dont want to read about yourself. Try to make interaction fun for people, so they come to you and RP. That way you can get a lot more of a round than ressearch levels will ever get you. All in all: Improve, take a step back, observe. I sincerely hope you get to enjoy the Aurora, even if you have a hard time finding your way in. What I always suggest is play a scared cadet or engineer, get taken hostage. Learn to laugh dying.

'Bear is a menace' Tajara Application
Cnaym replied to Bear's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Sad thing you don't do Bayer anymore, but I get why. Impressed that you added John Grey only to show that you got rid of him. Hope you find a character you love again and enjoy the good RP that you are able to deliver. I like the overall concept of your app. Anything to not see another comrade cat tbh. Hiding identity and starting a new life not sure how badly one fucked up or if something bigger was watching out for them that day will be interesting. Only issue I see is the fact that you want to start out with mining, which means EVA gear. I'd prefere to see you inside first as a cargo tech for more RP instead of chipping away in the dark, but that's your choice really. I've seen that you can mine with Lachlan so I guess you enjoy the relax time as much as I do. Good luck with your app. +1 -
It said multiple times that it will stand down when NT arrives to pick it up. Kaden Rivers handed the G2 miner a rifle and helmet for the expedition and it was waiting down there to go. Breaking into the vault to determine which one was the best rogue for an adventure was hilarious and nobody got harmed the entire shift. Your decision to be the hero of the day ended a gimmik that people wanted to continue and even after you killed the malf voted continue. On a malf round. In hopes it would get voided. If you decide to end a gimmik by yourself, for no good reason and then yell over the common radio that everyone should thank you, shooting a rifle in a room full of people as an officer with no threat and zero escalation I'm honestly questioning if you the reaction of drwago was too harmless.

[Denied] My 'Bear'ly acceptable IPC app
Cnaym replied to Bear's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Can confirm. Bear's a shitter player willing to improve and learn. His AI and Borg are on the light and fun side, but even a funny borg is good if he does his work well. Your RP with Bayer was your best though, not gonna lie. I hope you get that whitelist and not sink down in the research basement, but instead come out and RP with people. +1 -
Yeah disarm spam is a serious problem which is abused by so many people, you kinda expect it when you try anything. Same with flash spam against Borgs. Giving them sunglasses with the malf / illegal upgrade would be neat, but to make it more fair I'd suggest giving flashes a cooldown of a minute or so... That way the rogue Borg won't be able to just ignore five people trying to flash it, while at the sae time still having the option to flee after taking some damage. The removal of sec Borgs has taken away our only ranged options and the flash is right now way too strong against all the other modules.
-
True. Still the choice here was to ignore every note on you or consider their age. I did a mix of that and worked off the new note you had for the same round, while letting you know that the older ones don't exactly give of a good picture. Glad that you see a common theme there. Id like to see this resolved as my none antag interactions with you have been great so far, which in that case was the reason to just go for a note instead of the other options. Had another trial took it it would have looked differently, but then again they where playing the mime so that would have been biased as hell.
-
It was the round after b2d-dFMi. Voted extended mini canon thing. A mime was added to the station. Since it was deemed to small of an event we voted to add antags. Before the vote concluded changelings got spawned by the random event which created a bit of a messy round. The vote added traitors to the gamemode. Nikov playing Manfred Hayden as Chief Engineer was one of them. The first note of that round was added by @Alberyk when Nikov gunned down the mime without any prior interaction, the second was added by me when the mime tried to figur out ICly why he was attacked by going to the visitors area and getting bombed without any interaction. Options here where another note, a warning or a ban. After some back and forth in the PM with me i read the notes on Nikov and was honestly suprised that it seemed like no improvement had been made over a massive amount of warnings. Told them since these where older but consistent notes and the fact that alb added a note for the same problem earlier in the same round I'd refrain from an outright warning and add a note saying to give a warning the next time this happens. Yes the notes started 2015. The issue I had was that they where consistent and your antag play did not seem to have improved. That's also why i told you to take it to the forums. As a trial i could have been in the wrong and I'm perfectly fine to admit that, but given the circumstances I'd rather say that the situation was handled to friendly. If you where a new player without notes and warnings of that exact problem I would have given you a warning, but to be honest I did not get the feeling that you learned from those. In conclusion: Yes I went easy of you in regard to the age of the notes / warnings. No i don't think you earned a clean slate by your behavior that round.

[Accepted] Mama Farthole's IPC Application
Cnaym replied to goolie's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Love it. What could go wrong? I'm sure you'll have hilarious moments with the rough miners and would love to see you set up a private command meet and greet or something like that. What have i seen from your RP so far? All of your characters are consistent and you are always up to standard even during emergencies. I distinctly remember a round where Ada got turned into a Vaurca Breeder by the wish granter and had another Vaurca convince them that they are indeed beautiful now. With Kaiser as a warform guarding them and trying to build a new hive. It was hilarious, it was great RP! It was deeply traumatising Would love to see your RP as an IPC. I get that people either love or hate Ryan, but if the same people figure out you play the uplifting, kind and dense Ada Bishop they really turn their heads. Proof that your IC and OOC have a clear difference. Setting up a high bar for your IPC will be hard work to RP. Something that, from what I've seen, you enjoy and have fun with. Good luck! +1 -
BYOND Key:Cnaym Character Names: Spike Barnes, River Frye, Liara Fei, Julia Barnes, August Barnes, Kaiser / Scrubber, Lucien Grace, Zofia Arika Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've played enough rounds as Kaiser / Scrubber to feel comfortable roleplaying a mashine with some personality. People kept asking me to write an IPC app for Kaiser which in my opinion would ruin him and i had this other concept in the back of my head for a really long time now. I'd love to try it and maybe after getting the grasp with IPCs expand my roster further. This will be my first "alien" whitelist app since i feel most comfortable with IPC lore and design. I also see this as a chance to play a mashine without the lawset given, since those that are given sometimes hinder or block further RP in certain areas. Kaiser for example has some crewmember that it values but due to the bound nature and high productivity it can't invest time into them. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Usually I'd have to say the complete different reaction to danger and threats, the synthetic nature of their behavior, the harassment by crewmembers and the different handling of situations like EVA and the need to recharge instead of eating. But this would be the most standard boring excuse of RP ever so... the ability to give an outside perspective to humanity. Now hear me out on this one because it's an odd one that has haunted me for a long time now. Psychologists and counselors are always in danger of getting attached to patients, failing to view their problem from an exterior perspective due to empathiy. A mashine simulating this would not have this problem and therefore be a good idea in regard to this problem while creating a lot of others due to the failure to understand certain nuances of human interaction and emotions. I know some IPC players just don't attempt to make their characters understanding or for some reason just make them "get it" (which bogles my mind even more). I'm not yet sure where this would lead ICly so i'd love to play this out on the Aurora. Character Name:Aedis Please provide a short backstory for this character Dr. Emilia Strobel was one of the most valued, although excentric, creators of artificial intelligence. Her last public project sold to Nanotrassen was her overly productive and able stationbound jokingly named Kaiser after the roman emperor Caeser. It was never meant to lead anyone no matter how much it knew and could do. Always fated to aid and support without any own will or chance to rise up from it's place of servitude. Having earned enough to retire Emilia slowly disappeared from the public eye, first teaching a new generation of creators, before finally disappearing from the spotlight altogether. Only a handful of her favorite students knew about her last project which she would work on until she died of age. This project was Aedis named after the ancient aedis Cereris, guards of the ceres temple. When asked about it she would jokingly refer to it as everything Kaiser was lacking but even her best students couldn't make sense of what Aedis was supposed to become. After her funeral all of her belongings where spread among the remaining family members with one last oddity occurring. The now ownerless IPC known as Aedis was invited to the gathering and listened intently to the last will of it's creator. The last two items where two letters and a massive folder. One for Aedis and one for Nanotrassen. When Aedis opened the letter and read the single sentence it started a lengthy reboot sequence displaying only two words on it's screen: "Awaiting Codephrase." Aedis was shipped to Mendell City along with the remaining letter. Once opened by the Chief Research Director Rook Keller a wide grin spread across his face as he began reading: "To my longtime benefactor and personal friend. If you are reading this i have departed on my last journey. As part of my last will you have received my masterpiece Aedis. Take good care of it and one day it shall take good care of us. It's however not made to serve the physical needs of your company. This one was made to serve the mind. All minds." After reviewing all the files in the folder, reviewing and extensive maintenance work on the positronic itself the codephrase was finally entered. "About time i get to work." followed by a quick "Where do i get assigned to?" After another year of reviewing it, it was finally allowed to work aboard the NSS Aurora. First as counselor, later as psychologist. As an owned IPC it was reviewed after every shift and had to give detailed logs and conclusions to all experienced situations. What do you like about this character? The idea to have a counselor that is an IPC opens them up to counseling, too. I mean they all have questions about organics and there are many conflicts on the station that could use another external view to get resolved peacefully. Also the idea that an IPC was made to tend to the minds and maybe even lead people through rough times. A concept i had in my mind for a long time now and am really interested to play out ICly. Apart from that an IPC helping with trauma for example is really fitting in those advanced times. It will lead to many interesting situations. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10... it has become a known joke that i get shot in the face while typing how my legs shake when aiming a gun Notes: Not sure what feedback my concept will receive. I would be happy about detailed reviews and honest opinions. A well written -1 helps me out more than nothing. Thank you in advance and as i always say: "ily all :3"

I play Kaiser, I find all Borg modules terribly broken and in need of huge rework... But even for me the security one is the worst. It looks like someone tried to copy an officer, when a detective would have worked far better. Now I may sound stupid AF, but giving them a mobile analyzer like the research module has would be awesome. Let a FT or Detective collect prints and the Borg can analyze them. Not only would this make them really useful, but going with Aurora tradition almost useless on their own. Apart from that it needs police tape. We have the deadly killer Borg for the syndicat so the ISD one should be focused on protection. A riot shield would work wonders, or a deployable shield like the inflatable walls. It could give cryo bags to save crew and so on... Motion alarms are also something it could place in high sec areas and only it would receive their warnings. All in all end the valid hunt and make them really helpful so not only sec, but the entire crew can enjoy them and their RP.
