  1. this is far more discussion post than suggestion, but I make suggestions, so it's in suggestions, treat it as both types of posts. (it was also originally a stealth antag rant, but it evolved as I typed) First Issue: Information Game Ok, so do you every wonder why every antag and their moms go loud? It's actually pretty easy to answer, being a stealth antag is almost impossible. The main culprit is suit sensors, if you so much as touch someone with maxed suit sensors, medical will pretty much instantly know and start asking questions. This in itself isn't bad, but the fact they also have access to the exact coordinate position of the person in trouble is a HUGE disadvantage for an antagonist trying to kill/kidnap and so on without being detected. There are currently three counters to this that I know of: 1. Radio Jammers will block suit sensors in their radius, their disadvantage is that they deafen you as well, so you have no idea if back up is on the way. The improvised variation of the jammer only works for a few seconds as well. 2. Cutting Telecommunications, if you cut off telecomms or the NT Net, sensors shut off. The downside to this strategy is that it's hard to do remotely and can take quite a bit of prep work. Not to mention, Engineers will make it their number one priority to fix if there's nothing wrong with the Engine. 3. Stunlock. Just stunlock your foe, don't give them a chance to call for help, restrain them, then cut their sensors. The disadvantage here is that you have to rely on them not RNG'ing out of your grab when the stun wears down. Additionally, stunlocks only works with certain antag abilities, or chemical solutions. What this usually results in is that antagonists, usually played by new or mid-range experienced players are unsure how to get around the sensors issue outside of brute forcing it and hope you can get their sensors cut off before medical notices. Medical usually has atleast one or two people with their eyes glued to sensors, so it's a very lucky day for the antags if they're not caught instantly. Medical will ask on common, security will catch wind of it and instantly start running over. You usually have about 30 seconds to a minute to react to being caught before 3-4 Officers are ontop of you. That's not including the Investigators or Warden that will sweep the entire department camera network within ten seconds before the Officers reach the first door though. So, what's the ultimate problem here? Security and Medical are two of the most popular departments on the station, and are the two directly responsible for countering the Antagonist's actions. A fully stocked Security Team (4 Officer, 2 Cadet, 2 Investigator, Warden, HoS) is already a Ten versus One. Add Medical's support behind Security's numbers advantage and most antags won't stand a chance. The amount of information the crew has access to at any given moment can usually counter an antagonists movement rather quickly. Proposed Solutions for the Above Problems? 1. Remove Tracking Beacons as a Suit Sensor Option. Knowing someone is getting hurt is fine, useful, but won't instantly reveal an antagonist. As for Miners, Engineers, and others that go EVA often and need to be tracked down on the asteroid, they already spawn with GPS Equipment in their lockers. They'll just take those instead and be fine. If someone gets hurt, not due to an antagonist's actions, nothing stops them from calling out on the radio for help. 2. Have the Uplink Radio Jammer (read: not the improv one) disable camera coverage in their radius. Just temporarily depower the camera, without triggering the alarm. 3. Add an Encryption Key that grants immunity to radio jammers. Not sure about this one, but you would have to give up your department radio key for it work, or wear two headsets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second issue: Getting Spotted As it stands, when you get spotted as an Antagonist doing your antagonist business, you have two options. 1.) Kill whoever spotted you, fast. 2.) Threaten whoever spotted you, hope you put the fear of God in them. Option 1 isn't great in some cases, because killing someone is a pretty noisy affair, and people tend to run when attacked. In the case of Unathi and M'sai, you just can't catch them. Not to mention, people tend to salt about getting killed because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, varies from person to person though. Option 2 is usually worse than 1 because most characters will instantly march to Security and rat you at the moment you are out of sight. There are a few excellent RPers who will go through the trouble of being scared into silence, but most will tell Security. While discussing the issue in OOC, I proposed adding a new item to the uplink, an Amnesic Pen, that forces someone to forget the events of the last few minutes. Similar to the Vampire Bite effect, but this was met with resistance by a few players, stating that they'd rather just get killed. There's obviously no pleasing everyone, but if you don't try staff will start looking at your antag play with suspicion. So, outside of the Amnesic Pen, I have no real solutions for this one, so it's open for suggestions from the people reading this. -------------------------------- Third Issue: Forensics this one is less issue/problem/unwinnable and just PSA. 1. Use Cham Clothing, Infiltration Gloves, or Wet Rags to avoid Forensics figuring anything out. You can wipe down doors, items, almost anything and remove the forensics evidence. Downside is, it takes time. 2. blowing up the Forensics lab also works. ------------------------------ please post any other observable issues with antagonist play, from crew or antag perspective. I intend to take what's deemed useful and good from the thread to a dev and hit them over the head with it.
  2. did good, rp's well, reasonable character, should only improve with more experience. +1
  3. if I see another c’thur on station I’m going POSTAL good app, decent premise. I usually prefer Vaurca who lean hard into their alienness, because it creates contrast with their coworkers, which can be fun. Though, there is nothing wrong with going with “Xeno diplomacy was beaten into my brain.” Since it is apart of the lore. 1. What religion does Xot follow? 2. What are their thoughts on the other Hives in the Spur? 3. as a C’thur, you have roots in the Federation, problems there are problems for your hive. What does Xot think about current events?
  4. i saw you walk up to a fire alarm and to recall the research shuttle 10/10, I couldn't dream of following a better captain fr tho i have seen them and they seem good at being a NT scrub who loves a good corporate ladder match
  5. based and synthpilled I haven't actually RP'd with you that often despite seeing Tal around quite a bit. But, they seem to be a well-rounded character. I don't think there would be any issues with you acquiring a race whitelist for the robots. IPCs don't learn trades usually, usually they just get chips stuck in their heads that download the knowledge into the brains. afaik
  6. defacing currency are we comrade? The Commissar will hear of this.
  7. A curious standpoint at the very least. It seems she acknowledges (or believes) their teachings are wrong, but doesn't treat them as wrong. anyways, +1
  8. Your Unathi is from the wasteland, meaning their views can be almost anything on the spectrum based on their own experiences and their clan. Your backstory is alittle short, but I've seen you RP, so I'm just attributing it to "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH" anyways, 1. What does Skaxa think of the dishonorable minorities present in Unathi Culture, such as Guwan and Aut'akh? Many Unathi universally hate them, and in the case of Guwans, usually rightly so, due to their criminal association. 2. Skaxa, being in the wasteland, has probably encountered very few Xenos in their life. Perhaps the only thing they'd have ever seen was a Mi'kuetz K'lax wandering about. How do you think they will react to their organic alien counterparts? Even more shocking, how will they react to their Synthetic counterparts? 3. What faith does Skaxa subscribe too? 4. You use the pronoun they mostly in the app. Sex is an important theme within Unathi culture as it decides what Code the Unathi will walk. What sex is Skaxa?
  9. To start off, allow me to declare that any applicant that puts in effort is worthy of praise. You have obviously done so. You should be applauded for the effort alone. I don't often comment of race apps, because if I comment, I intend to ask questions, so here we are. As I said before, anyone putting in effort deserves appreciation and usually I don't have concerns. But, alas, I have concerns. The first, this app's story, despite it's length is horribly boring. It's basically, X happens Komolov does Y. That's a brutally efficient way to transmit someone's story to me. But I learn their background, not their personality, what emotions they feel. It's not really creative, and you have a head that can be creative. I only mention this because while the race app only asks for a selection of 2 paragraphs, the resounding approval of your RP and capabilities leaves me wanting for more. The second is one of personal opinion/belief and thus has less weight then any other point, but I'll state it anyway. FROST has always rubbed me the wrong way, for a Synthetic, they seem rather organic to me, in regards to their personality. We had a slew of station-bounds in the past that acted largely like humans and I suppose due to the fallout of that, any synth that reminds me of such immediately triggers a suspicion that lore is being pushed aside. Aside from FROST though, I don't think I've seen any of your characters on-station. So, sadly I can't commented on your non-synth play for better or worse. I agree with Sue that the story is particularly Gary Sue-y, though not horribly so to the extent I'd feel compelled to take up arms against it. You are a commoner, entrenched in debt to a noble. It makes sense. What doesn't line up completely with me is why your M'sai agrees with the NKA so fully. They would've been exposed to the PRA's teachings during the occupation, and would have the needed information to realize they are being exploited by the noble for gain. Something the PRA was snuffing out. (in exchange for their own rules, but still) To make matters worse, the PRA goes out of their way to "re-educate" the youth, and you stated Komolov attended school under the Republican Occupation, how did Komolov avoid falling victim to this? Did he avoid falling victim to this? Do Republican values secretly hold sway in a hidden corner of his mind? Even if it's just for his sister's sake? There's nothing wrong with giving your heart to the NKA, but Komolov has been exposed to more than the Kingdom and has credible reasons to want something different. Does Komolov not resent the fact most of his natural life will be spent paying back a debt he was forced to take on based on his sister's circumstances? Additionally, there's nothing wrong with playing a conflicted character either, a schism in their thoughts breeds interesting decisions and struggle, which breeds conflict. And the best RP is always derived from conflict. A few times in your responses to Sue, you state that, "It's not his father's story" as reasoning behind not elaborating on him. The issue with that is, if his father is responsible for the ideals Komolov's holds, then they must be elaborated upon. Komolov, to his credit as a viable tajara, holds a lot of stock in his family it seems, so as a part of their story, the points at which they touch Komolov must be said. One of the most critical things about a Tajara, or any character, is what is influencing them (lore, friends, circumstances) and what's going on in their head. Once you're in that mindset, a character unfolds infront of you. Ultimately, I am neutral on your app, I believe course correction is completely possible and even likely. I simply have thoughts preventing me from giving a +1 in good faith.
  10. you have to be careful walking around cargo at night
  11. no politics in #general
  12. skill issue
  13. It seems I had it's lowpop/highpop suitableness mixed up. Which is probably what I get for making a suggestion so late in the night. Regardless, its just hard to play a gamemode when no one willing wants to play the antagonists. Revenants is the only gamemode where, despite lack of antagonists, it can still fire.
  14. Sorry, I used my lunchbox to metagame/powergame to avoid having to interact wit Chefs, so this is a none issue. as for heating food, sure, why not?
  15. https://gyazo.com/add9806b3584db9e83406754f0ed68ca Revenants has seen extensive playtime, and most of the playerbase dislike it appearing at 2:08 in the round. I'd prefer a cap of 15 readies, so it remains a viable low-pop gamemode for those in different timezones, but I know many people seek its complete removal.
  16. I'd personally be of a mind to hold a community name recommendation, where players may suggest a name to christen the NBT Ship with, and the Head Staff choose the best, then allow the community to vote on it. @Alberyk Thoughts?
  17. who is this random player that dictates policy, I call shenanigans!!!
  18. Can we call our Ship the SCCSV Borealis instead of the Aurora again
  19. you go out the mass driver first.
  20. so this would just effectively remove the G2 and Unathi buff. why not do that instead?
  21. 1. Yes. If I get something I don't particularly like, I'd simply work on it as normal and have some lore friendsTM review it to make sure it's up to scratch. I'd hate to publish anything that didn't reflect the standards set by the current state of lore writing. 2. Probably the Federation Politics. There's alot to be done to really drive home the BIG BROTHER FROG style of governance the Federation prefers. 3. I'd give each subspecies a unique Psionic based on the environment they evolved in. Axiori, due to their ocean living would get an upgraded version of Psi Ping, that would have a far more wide reaching range, but but unable to provide precise locations in exchange for the range increase. I imagine they developed this ability to detect predators in the ocean. But, I know alot of Staff dislike Psi Ping, so instead of that, I'd also consider giving them an advanced Commune Power that lets them target anyone with a heightened Psi Signature regardless of range, as long as they are on the same Z-Level. (Basically, other Skrell and Antagonists that get Psionics). This power has a windup though, and you need both hands free to stimulate your temples to use it. Xiialt, have lowered Psionic Potential in general, but I'd still like to give them a flavor shot. If I had free reign, I'd say a power called "Feedback" that shot the target full of random mental junk for a moment would be what I choose. It's effects would give a disorientation debuff (similar to being drunk) that lasts half a second. I'm unsure if a cooldown can be added to Psionic Powers, but I'd like this one to have a long one. Xiiori, being hybrids, would either get the choice of the litter, or, preferably, something unique. First thing that comes to mind is a Psionic Ability that allows them examine an object and get a vague impression of whose been holding it. Basically, super weak forenics. They may get an impression it was "laboring sentient" = engineer and so on.
  22. Bye Skull, sad to see you go! I hope you find success.
