Kaizr's Command Re-Application - Director's Cut
Butterrobber202 replied to Kaizr's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 I've watched their CMO quite a bit. They are level-headed and astute. I think they would make a fine addition to Command's collection. -
unathi [Accepted] Goolies' Unathi Application 🦎
Butterrobber202 replied to goolie's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
fuck fuck fuck goolies didn't apply for skrell next I think Goolies is one of our best roleplayers on the server. When Ryan Barrett first hit the scene, a lot of people gave him a lot of shit for playing a (at first glance) dislikable character. Not many players have the mental fortitude to shrug that off and keep rolling, not to mention turn such a character into one of the most well-known staples of the station. I could probably identify Ryan Barret 1000x faster than I could identify any Captain we've ever had on the station. More so, I've had plenty of chances to interact with goolies in-game, and enjoy his stuff a lot, if that wasn't obvious. I would be genuinely interested to see how he handles the brave and brash Unathi presented in his application. -
Why I won't play Vampire, and why you shouldn't either.
Butterrobber202 replied to restricted's topic in General
I don't know what mental gymnastics you have to do to assume people playing Vampires are ERPers/Rapists. Yes, we've had undesirable players abuse the mechanics for that reason, but they are handled with a banning. That is a problem with players, not the gamemode itself. People could just as well force people to smooch via gunpoint rather than mind control. I think its an absolutely ridiculous take to say getting gaslight in a 2-hour pixel game is gonna trigger some trauma. Furthermore, Antagonists do not have to respect player agency. In fact, no one has to respect player agency. We are a collaborative story telling server, with gameplay mechanics and rules. The mechanics decide what happens when people come into conflict, one way or another. If you want to cause trouble in the bar, you have the agency to do so, yes. But, I also have the agency to walk over and beat the shit out of you for doing so. (viva la security) The mechanics will decide who comes out on top, if anyone does. If someone abuses those mechanics to violate the rules, the admins will take care of it. Additionally, if we avoided everything that could cause people IRL grief, we'd have to retcon half our lore. (Wars, terrorism, death in general, etc.) -
Summary: Add a new gamemode, called Horror, that revolves around a 2 man Antagonist Team playing a monster and an AI-like narrator. The Antagonists' goal is to drive up the fear of the crew through whatever means they decided, and it is the crew's objective to both survive and defeat the monster. Details: At the start of the round, the pair of antagonists are chosen and presented with a menu. They will decide which one of them becomes the Monster and which becomes the Narrator. This list is not exhaustive, but I'm not super willing to write up a full ability list for each entity unless a dev expresses interest in taking on the project. The Monster: This team member's job is to be the physical manifestation of the crew's problems. It could be anything from a supernatural humanoid to a SCP-like Bluespace Entity hellbent on revenge. To that end, I'd imagine some pre-made monstrous icons would be made accessible, so the Monster has some options to better represent its team's gimmick. The Monster is allotted a certain amount of points, then provided a list of abilities, both active and passive in nature. As the sole physical antagonist of the round, the Monster will need to be physically durable and powerful. To counter act this, the Monster will be required to accept some kind of weakness that the Narrator will enforce throughout the round. The Narrator: This team member's job is to be the embodiment of misfortune and paranormal activity. It would play similar to the AI, given an invisible body to watch the round unfold in. It's job is ultimately to set the mode, assist in terrifying the crew, and augment the Monster's storytelling abilities. With no body to fight, the Narrator perishes alongside the Monster, making the two tied together. Similar to the Monster, the Narrator is given a list of abilities at round start to purchase with its own pool of points. While the Monsters' exist to create a powerful opponent, the Narrator's abilities would largely be things affecting the environment, including station systems, lighting, vents, doors, psionic whispers, and other phenomena. The Narrator must also monitor the Monster, and ensure that it is reacting appropriately if its weakness is being exploited. I imagine the Narrator has some way to deal direct damage to the monster, if needed. Alternatively, to prevent the duo from coming up with some horseshit the crew can never figure out, a pre-generated list of weakness could be created in the event the freeform idea is rejected.

Danse topic of the day: The cutting room
Butterrobber202 replied to Kintsugi's topic in Aurora Lore Club's Topics
vox (never forget a species slot is still technically open, with the deletion of the vox) I would delete Purpose, if I was forced into deletion rather than overhaul. It's just vestigial lore right now. -
I think you have potential, but you being a relatively recent entry (or re-entry) to the server shows a lot. During the round I played with your Commander, you jumped to conclusions, weren't making sure staff were actually carrying out your orders, and failing to communicate with your team. I genuinely think this is a case of "needing more time in the oven." Given some time to acquire more operational and leadership knowledge, you'd make an excellent addition to the Command Team, but for now, I will leave a -1.

BYOND key: butterrobber202 Discord name/id: Butterrobber202#1542 Borg / AI names: I pick a random name every time I play Cyborg, or GearOST. Have you read the Aurora wiki page about the AI?: Yes Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To play AI. Once every now and then, I get urges to play AI for awhile, then I return to standard procedure. Not having the whitelist means I can't play when I'm in those moods. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: Got notes/actions for antagonist play awhile ago. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?: Ye.

I approve of this. Humans having all their settings set to "default" is less interesting than giving them advantages, as it allows us to be much more free with what we give our exotic aliens.

Then I have no concerns and support the trial. Good luck. -
FAYE - MODERATOR APPLICATION
Butterrobber202 replied to Faye <3's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I think Faye is an excellent member of our community, displaying desirable traits the server benefits from in passionate players. Her characters are well-rounded ICly, and Faye seems to have a strong grip on human lore, if not general lore as a whole. I was silent on your last application, as all of the concerns I had were brought up from others. I thought it would be unkind to dogpile, and even then, the concerns I had were not enough to stop me from supporting a trial run. Your passive-aggressive behavior in most OOC mediums has been significantly diminished since September (from my observations), though I rested on the receiving end only rarely prior your earlier application. Regardless of that, my single concern is that you seem to have a very strong idea of how things should be done, and we've occasionally butt heads in civil conversation on this topic. The spectrum of playstyles among the Aurora Community is very large. Many people have differing opinions on what is okay, and what is not. My concern is if you can separate your own personal beliefs on server-play and successfully enforce the moderation team's broader standard of play? I do think you are capable of it, as I've seen you in dsay after rounds say lines similar to: "That round was not fun. It was just not my cup of tea." Which, I think alludes to you already having an understanding of this, I only bring it up because I wanted to see what you had to say over the matter. -
My theory on Bluespace's position is the opposite of yours. In Bluespace, you travel quicker and that would imply time moves slower compared to Greenspace, despite you going the same physical speed in Bluespace you were going through Greenspace with. Redspace, to me, is the opposite. Time moves much faster than greenspace, and you travel that much slower. Nar'sie hasn't waited 5000 years to come back because he's nice, he's only waited a fraction of that, but from Greenspace, the time difference is staggering. As for the interactions with biology, my theories are rather scrambled in my head as is, so I won't dump the gibberish here.

thank you to everyone who replied, this is now closed until it needs to be open again.

I will be taking applicants until this weekend, as a note! I will add another comment when this closes.

hello auroraverse, I am going to DM a small Eberron Game for an indeterminate period of time, depending on how it goes! I'm very experienced with 5e and an avid enthusiast of Keith Baker's "Eberron." Which is a Magicpunk setting for D&D 3e-5e. I am not a terribly experienced Dungeon Master, outside of a few one-offs, so this will likely be a learning experience for me. Regardless of all that, here's the information you need to know if you want to join. Basic Details: I'm taking 4-6 people for the campaign, as I doubt I will be able to handle more than that. I will ask you read (or atleast skim) the Eberron Sourcebook for 5e, but don't worry about that until after you're accepted. A decent, setting appropriate backstory for your character. A computer capable of running "Foundry VVT", there is a web demo online if you wish to test it. It is a paid game, but I'm only requesting a single American dollar (1$) from each player per session (Session 0 excluded), as this would cover to the upkeep of a Foundry Server to host on. (In the event this goes down in flames and we are unable to play, I will refund everyone.) (Why the fuck are you requesting a single dollar? Are you that poor? Absolutely, I'm a college student that can't use scholarship money on wacky things like D&D.) nvm found a coupon and a 20 dollar bill under my couch, all good. If you have zero experience with D&D, Foundry, Eberron, or Butter, that's absolutely fine and I will teach you, if you are willing to return my effort. The Game will likely begin in January, and take place during CST (UTC-6) Evenings. Eberron can be a gritty setting, meaning its possible to encounter themes such as PTSD, war-time propaganda, body-horror, and prejudice. That does not mean we will encounter these themes in this campaign , but they are a part of the setting, and I largely have no issue using these themes myself. If you are uncomfortable with any of these themes, mention in your application and we will see about working around it. In your direct message to me, place a banana emoji at a random point. That said, outside of the game's IC, anything that would be considered a violation of Aurora's community standards may result in expulsion from the game. Game Prompt: "You've run afoul of the law, a dragonmarked house, powerful organization, or the wrong individual. You've found yourself amongst the most wretched of convicts in the Dreadhold, where you'll serve out the length of the sentence arranged between the Kundarak dwarves and those who pronounced your verdict. It seems your foreseeable future will be spent behind iron bars…” The start of this game will largely revolve around RP and thinking, similar to a tutorial level for those new to D&D. But, despite this, seasoned D&D Veterans are welcome, as I am sure you will pull something out of your ass and flip the entire situation on its head. Applying to Join: Name: Experience (D&D, Eberron, etc): Character Concept (Does not need to be the one you play in the game, or Eberron-specific): Notes: send'em to Butterrobber202#1542 on discord, I'm in all the Aurora discord servers.

I've also been talked down into the "remove blood boil" mindset. Or bare minimum just heavily reducing the amount of blood boiled.

Nursie asked me to come beat them up again, so here I am. I think the backstory is an improvement, as it does meet the requirements this time. But, you mentioned in our DMs that your gestalt would be from Xrim, correct? The line "humanity can not touch..." doesn't make much sense in this case, as Xrim is a planet firmly under Skrell control, and would not see an overabundance of humans. Which you yourself seem to acknowledge in your app, as your Diona makes their way off-planet. Small nitpick. Despite this, I do think you can roleplay well, as I said earlier. Not everyone has the brain disposition to write 4 page backstories and 15 mile long records. Diona are especially alien in our setting, so writing an application for them can be difficult. Pending Loremaster interrogation, I think you can pass this app.
-
(commenting as a player) nursie I love many of your characters, and I think you're an excellent roleplayer. but man, that backstory is just not there. The only diona-specific lore present is nymphs and radiation. I have no idea what planet this diona might be from, how they got to NT or... anything really. Additionally, it does not seem to meet the two paragraph requirement, you seem to have a paragraph and two sentences.

Alberyk Deputy Loremaster Application
Butterrobber202 replied to Alberyk's topic in Developer Applications Archives
My only concern is split attention from all your responsibilities. Alberyk has proven himself level headed and extremely fair in almost all of his actions as a Staff Member. He is an excellent writer and, as mentioned above, Tajara Lore is top deck quality. There is little more to say on the matter. -
DrFarson - Skrell Application
Butterrobber202 replied to Dr. Farson's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Alright, your lore knowledge seems sufficient and you do seem to have the potential to play a good Skrell. While a species app is not as difficult to obtain as a Head of Staff application, we still consider OOC conduct when making our decisions. You have a long history of bringing IC into OOC, getting aggressive in LOOC, overstepping job restrictions and harassing those that dislike your main. I know you’ve been trying to curb these behaviors, but you’ve only recently returned and the Skrell Team still considers them to be factors. Despite this, we saw you branching out into a different race, and took it on good faith that you were trying to make new characters. We were willing to accept your application and merely monitor you for undesirable Skrell roleplay. Unfortunately, we noticed this: https://forum.ss13.me/discussion/9/skrell-dr-farson It seems to us you copied and pasted a portion of your application directly from your Baystation application. This behavior is not acceptable, and we believe your generic language present in the initial application is largely attributed to you applying using Bay Lore. For that reason, this application is denied. You may reapply in four months. During this time, we encourage you to try out different characters and show good server conduct. -
DrFarson - Skrell Application
Butterrobber202 replied to Dr. Farson's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Thank you for your interest in toad lore! While your backstory meets the paragraph requirement, it uses very generic language and lacks Skrell specific content. Additionally, some basic information is missing from the application. While this could've been a simple mistake, it does prompt me to ask certain questions. 1. What planet is Voluquo from? 2. What is Voluquo's Social Credit Score? 3. How does Voluquo feel about the Federation? 4. When you say Voluquo joined the Military, do you mean the Qukala? 5. What kind of relationship did they have with their partner? Did they form a Quya? How did their J'ox'a go, if so? 6. Is Voluquo a Listener or Reciever? 7. What religion/belief do they follow? 8. How does Voluquo feel about C'thur and Federation Diona? If Voluquo was in the Qukala, how do they feel about their full intergration into it? 9. Does Voluquo have any thoughts of the Traverse Refugee Crisis, and the Skrell Refugees in Biesel? 10. How does Voluquo feel about Megacorporations making progress in the Federation via the Special Economic Zones? 11. Who did Voluquo vote for in the recent Election? 12. Voluquo is 82 years old, which places them in the "Supernova Era" of Skrell, this was a time of little births for the Skrell, how did their parents treat them? -
We are not Bay.

Topic of the Day: Bluespace
Butterrobber202 replied to Caelphon's topic in Aurora Lore Club's Topics
This was likely me, I got the idea from someone (Coalf I think) shitposting that if Bluespace exists, then if you follow RGB, Greenspace and Redspace also exist. Greenspace being the normal plane of existence, and Redspace is the Veil, where nasty things like Nar'sie and Vampires draw their power from. -

Incident Report - 11-13-2463
Butterrobber202 replied to ReadThisNamePlz's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I used the admin prison, you know why? Cause you can't miss being teleported into the admin prison, and unlike the shitty bwoink it stops a shitter in their tracks in two clicks. Click, click, and they're fucking done. I use it after four bwoinks just to make damn sure. Because, once again, I'm not there to coddle a buncha griefing scum sucking fuckwads, I'm there to 1) Answer the fucking ahelps. 2) Enforce rules and policy. So you can absolutely get fucked. If I get readmined, which I won't, you can guarantee I will continue to use the admin prison to apprehend shitters. Because it's quick, clean and effective as fuck. Why in the seven hells would I fuck around with bwoinks, when half our players have their volume turned down, or with subtle messages which are italic as balls, impossible to notice and do about next to jack shit, fuck all. The admin prison is the superior rule enforcement weapon. Because it stops grief. And it stops grief by reducing the number of griefers roaming the fucking halls.
