KingOfThePing Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 A long discussed topic, this PR plans to implement this change: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/13650 Basically everything that is related to the Head of Security will be re-named to Chief of Security. Items, access, descriptions and prompts. It will also repath everything from /hos to /cos, for sanity's sake. Discuss this change here, before it merges.
DeadLantern Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Why don't we change it to "Commander of Security," as Commander is already a common name for the HoS in lieu of HoS, and it also fits with the CoS thing.
Marlon P. Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 (edited) Sounds good to me; is it just cosmetic? Edited April 24, 2022 by Marlon P.
Alfa1561 Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Finally, I can complain about "the Chief" as a bitter investigator. Much prefer this, Chief rolls off the tongue way easier than Head of Security, and is a better name than Commander for a civilian security department.
Boggle08 Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 This will make differentiating between the Chief(CoS) and the Chief(CE) a little more annoying.

Ramke Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 I always disliked Head of Security, not because of the logic behind the title but because it just doesn't make much sense calling them HOS or Head - doesn't roll off the tongue. Most people go for Commander anyway, but Chief would be better as a personal opinion. All for this.

Chief Medical Officer exists Anyway, I support this. HoS is an awkward, unpleasant name Edited April 24, 2022 by DanseMacabre

Waff-AI Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 I always hated the name 'Head of Security'. Good change! Long live the chief.
Carver Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 I mildly prefer 'Chief Security Officer' just for consistency with the CMO and CE, but even if it's not adjusted I do like this (and especially like it over the suggestion of Commander, Commander always sounded awful like a bad Mass Effect reference). The only loss is that it's harder for me to find an excuse to call the Security Head 'Hoss' from now on.
Arrow768 Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Yeah, I think CSO / Chief Security Officer is better. If we go for cos then we just need a sin (reporter alt title: "special investigative newsreporter") and a tan (bridge crew alt title: "technical advisor: navigation" for a "complete set")
OffRoad99 Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Chief Security Officer is a MASSIVE improvement over Chief of Security. It's also a seamless upgrade of Security Officer. Security Cadet > Security Officer > Chief Security Officer.
KingOfThePing Posted April 25, 2022 Author Posted April 25, 2022 I dont think Chief Security Officer sounds bad - BUT! It does not sound like the head of the department. More like a senior officer, a second-in-command type during the absence of the Head/Chief of Security. So I dont think it's a good term to use, sadly.
Owen Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 I have no issue with changing it to Chief of Security, or Chief Security Officer like others suggested. 1 hour ago, KingOfThePing said: I dont think Chief Security Officer sounds bad - BUT! Either way, I prefer Chief of Security / Chief Security Officer over the current Head of Security title. And I know that this isn't the topic, but I guess this might also bring into question the titles of the Research Director and the Chief Operations Manager. But those can be different suggestions
Faye <3 Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 chief security officer sounds like some kind of security middle management roll. chief of security is better
Roostercat Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Chief of Security is definitely better. Chief Security Officer kinda' downplays the role a lot. Just sounds like an officer that happens to be marginally more important than every other officer.
Triogenix Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) My only issue with Chief Security Officer is that it's what we currently call our Board-Level Security management, I.E, Nathan Trasen in the CSO of Nanotrasen, and Kamilla Strelitz is the CSO of Zavodskoi. This also fits in with the rest of the board member titles(Chief Research Director, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Legal Director, ETC.) I think it could cause some confusion to have the lower management leader of security aboard the Horizon with the same title as the board member who oversees the security section of an entire megacorporation. Chief of Security is better in my eyes because of this. Edited April 27, 2022 by Triogenix
Faye <3 Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 Chief Security Officer sucks. It isn't a good title. It sounds like a middle management role, not the head of the department. The PR will now be "Chief Security Officer" per a "maintainer decision." It sounds horrible. A sudden maintainer change of the PR should be announced better.
