Kintsugi Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 As the final hour begins and the end of the server draws nearer, I wanted to take the opportunity to make a thread for us to all talk about the good times, and to share the love we had for Aurora. Though only ten of us will remain here and the rest will scatter to the wind, Aurora has long been a fantastic server with a fantastic community. It breaks my heart to see the only server I played continuously for years die, and I am not sure I will have the same passion I had for Aurora for any other SS13 server. I may quit the game altogether in light of the passing of this community. Here's what I have to say about Aurora: Spoiler The year is 2465 CE (Common Era). Humanity has long since began its trek into space, and explored territory reaches out dozens of lightyears in every direction. After a century beyond the 2000's, flourishing cities had been established in nearby systems such as Tau Ceti and Eridani Federation, and in the centuries that would follow, hundreds of systems would fall under the control of Humanity. Outposts on garden worlds became metropolises in the span of decades. Entire asteroids and moons were mined out, hostile worlds were terraformed and subdued by growing corporations that began to become the dominant economic powers of Human space. Some humans have decided to roam the Orion Spur for the rest of their lives, living on their vessels and developing their own culture. The endeavors into the final frontier were founded beneath the unified banner of the Sol Alliance - a fading galactic government which exercises official control over the majority of the Human population. At the end of the 22nd century, the power and influence of the Sol Alliance was at its height, but this soon came to an end as an unexpected economic collapse found trans-stellar corporations picking away at Sol Alliance authority piece by piece. In the middle of the prosperity and strife, transtellars have for centuries embarked to make massive profits. The major corporate players had managed to establish a stable, if shaky peace between themselves, with no single corporation able to completely dominate the others. The foremost megacorporations would ultimately end up becoming the following: Nt-logo.jpegNanoTrasen Corporation, EinsteinEngines2.png Einstein Engines, Hephaestuslogo4.png Hephaestus Industries, II-teal.png Idris Incorporated, ZH-lightpurple.png Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals, Zavodskoi Interestellar.pngZavodskoi Interstellar. Together, they exercised total economic control over the known galaxy. Any semblance of equilibrium between the mega-corps was shattered with NanoTrasen's discovery of the element Phoron in 2417. Phoron is a powerful element which is highly sought after for its untold capabilities and use in the average starship drive. After discovering Phoron, NanoTrasen quickly established a monopoly on it, with themselves sitting on the largest deposits in the known galaxy. The times that followed sent NanoTrasen skyrocketing to unofficially become the foremost power over Humanity. Through determination and overwhelming wealth, it and the other megacorporations have become the dominant governing force over the expanse of the Orion Spur. Humanity is far from alone in the Spur, with multiple other sentient species taking to interstellar travel and contesting Humanity’s claim to the stars. In 2332, the Skrell were discovered, and since, a plethora of others were encountered, including the crafty Tajara, the proud Unargos, and numerous others. The inhabitants of the Orion Spur have experienced a good deal of strange discoveries and encounters, from advanced communications devices to alien monsters. As they make their homes amongst the stars, they have cultivated an innate respect for each other, whether they are for the Sol Alliance or another. ... And Now, The Stars Are Our Roofs (Female) After going on a galactic adventure during the early years of mankind's expansion into space, an undiscovered purpose inspired the protagonist of No Man's Sky to become one of the final few of his kind. After years of sleeping in a forest on a distant planet, the character returns to Earth and finds that he has aged over 200 years since he last left, all the while knowing nothing about the circumstances that took place in the years before. The characters' soul is being blocked and repressed by forces unknown. Determined to regain the knowledge he once had, the character embarks on a journey through space in search of his long-lost true nature. The character hopes to unlock the mysteries that lie beyond his own ego. The Road To... is another expansion released to the No Man's Sky: Next update and added to the base game on June 19th 2016. Originally the expansion was to be called "Memories of Old", but with the release of "Somewhere in the Endless Ocean" into Early Access in March 2016, the expansion was changed to "The Road to...". It has since been added to the No Man's Sky: Next update on June 19th 2016. It features an entirely new story with new planets and a newathi, the enigmatic Vaurcae, and the elegant Dionae. Many more exist, and while most are simply apathetic to humanity, others are openly hostile. If one thing can be said to unite the various species, it is the drive to control the powerful element Phoron. After late 2462 and the beginning of the massive phoron scarcity, the Solarian Alliance has begun its final collapse. Thus far, its jurisdiction has retreated to the Core Worlds and the area around Earth, while other major factions rushed to fill the power vacuum. Chaos has stricken the former Alliance territories for the most part - now labelled the Human Wildlands. Now, the corporations - outside of the Alliance at least, have banded together under the ultimate authority of the SCC logo.png Stellar Corporate Conglomerate. This new force promises to safeguard the financial livelihood of every living being in the known galaxy. With the “big five” corporations taking the stage, anything could happen. Only Einstein Engines remains to contest their power financially, supporting a crippled Alliance whose forces have largely revolted amidst the Wildlands. As of 2493, the Galactic Core is essentially a corporation-enforced socialist state. This century’s most iconic starship manufacturers - Nimbus Industries - launched its new Orion 6000 upon the race of the Gethenians in 2468. As of 2370, the Orion 6000 is the most common ship used by the UNSC Navy. In 2361, several isolated pockets of Homo sapien civilization were discovered on the distant rim of the galaxy, most notably on the many Unknown Arcs - vast swaths of starlight which have eluded our scientific understanding. To this day, the probability of contact between the human race and the Unknown Arcs has never been made. Humans, as a species, have learned to keep their thoughts pure, away from the alien horrors which inhabit these primal worlds. In 2371, a famous synthetic - and heretofore anonymous researcher - underwent what has become known as the Human-Orion Survey. For the first time in a generation, humans had been allowed a close look at the most remote of the Unknown Arcs, and those that followed. Notable discoveries included a monolithic military fortress which could easily hold 20,000 soldiers, technology of great complexity which could be used to disrupt space-time and energy fields, and a monolith of unknown origin which held information regarding ancient secrets. Those who have seen the Unknown Arcs claim that they hold an ancient history of great importance, possibly even divine origins. The Western Rim, our home system, has seen a sharp drop in population since the Human-Orion Survey. Paradoxically, the species from the Unknown Arcs which have wandered into the area are very scarce. Disclosure 2226 The threat of another, less fortunate, fate has been averted for now, but the secrecy surrounding the identity of the carrier of the human signal can not be denied. Thus far, the names of a father and mother have not been revealed, and it remains unclear how the first Humans came to have the very symbol which represents our species for thousands of generations. Here below is the transcript of that first transmission - and the challenge. “Your daughter is among us. If you are the first to find us, you are the first to save us. If not, our extinction is not a matter of time.” Descendants of the first Humans, they have made the task of finding them their sole purpose in life. Once known as the “Alliance,” they are now the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate. With every passing year, the exponentially more advanced technology of humanity creates more pressure to act. Shortly before 2378, its headquarters in the Pegasus Reach is captured by a newly formed coalition of irregular militias called the “Wildlands Alliance,” who immediately issue an ultimatum to the SCC. There is no point in bargaining with rebels when you are at war. In the end, it was to little avail. Once their forces were disorganized and scattered across multiple galaxies, the Wildlands Alliance was defeated. Once the Battle of Pegasus Reach was finally over, the SCC claimed the planet for its own, with an alien fleet to guard it. There is little question that this is the beginning of the end. The year is 2519. Space is now dark and devoid of all the beauty and wonder which the vast expanses of space have held for countless generations. It is barren and lifeless, devoid of all life except for those men and women who were granted immortality by the creation of superconductors. Still, they are not for the weak, and in this rare moment of silence, the ghost of the SCC can still speak. For the SCC, silence is the only language which the human race will ever understand. (transcription in parenthesis below) It is a shame that you were taken by surprise by the destruction of that outpost in the Pegasus Reach. That only hastened our evacuation. You have taken this time to come to our home. The brave souls who have taken part in the human-orion survey or who were lucky enough to go through the ship the Aurora have given us everything we have. You are our ultimate, perhaps greatest, hope. Do you understand what is at stake here? We will follow the path which the Prophet and his followers followed before them. We will fly off of this rock, into the sky, our light piercing the blackness to the stars beyond. We will go into the Unknown Arcs. We will become part of the cycle which forever links us to those who came before us. We will become something more than ourselves. We will become the titans of the stars. And then, we will fly over your oceans, your continents, your skies. We will forget the last time we faced a threat so great, to have so few to fight. We will be free of all other considerations. Only this. Only the sky above you and the Unknown Arcs beyond. I understand the hesitation. You think that there may be no other path. To stand down is not an option. We cannot afford to forget what brought us here. Are you here because you hope to play a part in the future of humanity? Do you think you can make it to the stars? Because if you are, you should know that we will make sure your home is safe for you. There will be no door, no walls, no mercy. You are ours, and we are yours. We will survive together, we will all make it. Yet in the end, it will be you who decide the fate of this planet, because that is who we are. We will continue on to the stars. It will be either you or us. Have a safe trip home. This message will self-destruct in 10 minutes. The mission is complete. n (Transmission was broken into two parts. It's believed that either a network blackout occurred in 2519 or a computer error occured in transmitting the message in the first place. In the confusion, many have made unfounded accusations of humans attempting to contact alien life.) The Mission Continues In a pre-recorded address to the United Nations, the head of the SCC gives an inspiring appeal for humanity. With great emotion, he emphasizes his wish for humanity to come together to “fight for a greater cause,” ultimately leading to the extinction of the SCC. Little is heard of him after this speech, however, because he has fallen to a group of rogue pilots led by the SCC’s most decorated pilot, Jack Foreman. The group organizes under the banner of a newly formed organization known as “The SCC Ghost Fleet,” in an effort to perpetuate the legacy of the SCC. Their first objective? To destroy the SCC. The SCC Ghost Fleet quickly overtakes the “ceremonial city” of Ceres. A small number of SCC Ghosts enter the SCC capital, known as “the beacon,” where they are met with little resistance. Soon after, all resistance has fallen as the Ghost Fleet surrounds the city. Unbeknownst to the Ghost Fleet, a group of SCC Ghosts has already secured the control tower of the beacon, equipped with several vehicles and plans to counterattack at any moment. With the main cannon having already been destroyed in the battle, an old missile system will provide the group with the means to gain the upper hand. The SCC and its ghost fleet have all but destroyed the city. One small space station, however, remains. The station is large enough to allow multiple craft to dock. Ceres has been reduced to rubble, its buildings either blown up by the SCC or destroyed by the Ghosts. An aerial view of Ceres, viewed from the penthouse of a nearby office building. Surviving pilots have set up operations in one of the asteroid mines just outside of Ceres. A destroyed view of the central area of Ceres, viewed from an office building. The SCC Ghost Fleet, the remnants of the SCC and the Ghosts, now is there or something I guess (I ran out of free characters) Never forget Aurorastation. Gone but not forgotten. Quote

geeves Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love, and it's an ache I still remember You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well, you said that we would still be friends But I'll admit that I was glad it was over But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don't even need your love But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough No, you didn't have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don't need that, though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I'd done And I don't wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing (aah-ooh) And I don't even need your love (ooh) But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough (aah) No, you didn't have to stoop so low (ooh) Have your friends collect your records and then change your number (aah) I guess that I don't need that, though Now you're just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (now you're just somebody that I used to know) Somebody (I used to know) Somebody (now you're just somebody that I used to know) I used to know That I used to know I used to know Somebody Quote
