  1. Thanks for applying! This is an entertaining app but I still have a few questions. You've captured the essence of an IPC's life - they are indeed marginalized and discriminated by the galaxy at large. Setting aside the way people treat it, what makes an IPC different as compared to a human? Not to say that an IPC should be emotionless, but doesn't that mean the character is already experiencing emotions? I understand that NanoTrasen collaborated with Zeng-Hu, but who was the lead? In our lore, NanoTrasen isn't known to produce IPCs. Up to you if you'd rather not answer this last question since it asks for backstory that could be gained IC, but how was MYRIAD treated between shifts? Did it stay in cryo like regular crewmembers, have a quarters or apartment? If so, how did this affect MYRIAD, especially with less oversight as compared to a typical synth?
  2. The argument of removing RnD aside (although I'm for keeping it), it seems ridiculous that a research station would have so many break rooms when they have a full scale bar that's almost as big as research. Assuming we remove RnD, researchers still need space to make their prototypes and removing the already cramped (ICly, at least) RnD Lab is not the way to go about it. If we must have a break room, maybe utilize maintenance space because research has a ton of it. Tl:dr we're a research station, we should have some labs instead of erp break rooms
  3. Everything seems a bit too drained and desaturated with the new textures, it's also hard to tell where one tile starts and stops. Plus I have to echo everyone else's complaint that the white is too subdued/blurry. I'd personally prefer a slightly greyer floor tile like what we had in the old textures. The new scrubber also blends too much into the floor, I think. It seems more like a random hole tacked on instead of a device built into it. The dark tiles carry at least a bit more outline than the grey tiles, but everything tends to feel muted and the same after a while. I preferred the old holopad but it's a case of personal preference, I think. It works better on the darker tiles than it does on brighter tiles but tends to blend in too much like the scrubber. Some side-by-sides for reference.
  4. Thanks for applying! The application seems good, so only a few questions from me. Is Mable a shell? According to our lore, the first shells were made in 2455 which, even so, looked uncanny and artificial. Furthermore, if not a shell, why contract Einstein Engines to help (not to say that anything has to change, simply clarification)? There's this. And this. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but how does this resentment carry through despite the removal of Mable's emotional response and simulation? I love the character concept, but I'm wondering, how did all this scrapping and "downgrading" for lack of a better term affect Mable? You mention that it lost a lot of components that were present in the "original" Mable, so to speak.
  5. Thanks for applying! Before the input from everyone else starts coming in, I have a few questions to ask regarding your app. Synthetics are expensive. Is there any reason Hephaestus placed a G2 in security instead of hiring a human to do the job? Furthermore, what of Marnik's programming before joining the crew? Did it learn anything else from these experiences other than combat? How did it come to this conclusion? What drove Marnik to taking the personal blame as opposed to say, shrugging it off and casting blame on the pirates? These are all very big events, from being bought as property, to working a maximum security prison, to witnessing riots, more death, and suffering damage. How did these experiences affect the character? How was Marnik bought? Why was it sold to begin with? Why start keeping scars? Why not keep the shrapnel scar from the freighter instead? It is a storied past, with a lot going on, from changing jobs, to holding comrades in its arms, etc. What's so important about being a synthetic to this backstory that Marnik can't be a human instead?
  6. Thanks for applying! I've looked over your app and everything seems good, as for your own conduct, I think all the +1s have said what needs to be said. I have a few questions, however. It seems a little strange to me that Brick's own maker would see it as too expensive to repair while Idris would quickly purchase and re-activate the machine. Aside from wanting to cut losses, is there any reason that Hephaestus would not simply repair the bot and put it back into service? Additionally, the roboticist seems to be a big part of Brick's backstory, but what about the official who purchased it? What other influences did Brick have? Does Brick still keep in touch with them? (If this is something that you'd rather show ICly, no need to answer in detail.) As a side note, Love the insight here.
  7. I'll throw in my two cents here. Play who you want to play within reason, but frankly we can justify the presence of a lot of things on the Aurora. Arguably a singer would be in higher demand than a bartender or somesuch owing to how few we seem to have. That's not to say that the roboticist angle is impossible, but you have to justify it because singer to roboticist does seem like quite the jump if Nanotrasen could find something much cheaper or efficient to fill the gap. It seems a little strange that a robot would turn to singing to earn its freedom, but I won't stomp on personal preference. I'm personally intrigued by this story, but it seems that it being repurposed is a very big deal. Can you expound on it being unpopular? As a side note, we do have slang for IPCs that come from certain backgrounds. I do like the fact that you recognize IPCs tend to adopt the culture of their surroundings. Flesh out the application a bit more and I think you'll have something here!
  8. Can you expand a little bit on the difference of an IPC (or a synthetic in general) versus a human? You seem to focus heavily on the discrimination, the batteries, and their predictable and self-preserving nature. To an extent, a human has analogues to all of these qualities. While we're on the topic of discrimination, mind talking about how an IPC's low position in society would affect them as an individual? I'm interested in this... Especially with how it relates to this, Can you tell me about how Sirius's early experiences affected their character if at all?
  9. Stay safe. You said a lot of things that needed saying and we'll miss you.
  10. Just going to throw my two cents here as Cheshire, last I saw Wxkri from an IC standpoint was when he fell down the hole and drifted away. I don't remember if anyone else in medical got them but I found maint blood towards the end of a round where I moved Easter around as well. Either way, I don't think we got a body or any explanation on the blood IC. There was also the freelancer bit that tossed science around that area, but I'm not sure if that's canon.
  11. I'm getting the vibe that you're focusing on discrimination as a strong theme here which I will admit is a strong part of an IPC, but how can we go further from that? You mention that they earned their freedom which would seem to suggest that they're past the discrimination and mistreatment, so can you explain how they got their freedom in a little more detail? Furthermore, you mention that it's an IPC with a purpose. This purpose seems important to the character so could you expound on that as well? Does it live for its work? For freedom? Something else? You mention that it's diverging from its core purpose so how does it clash with its new purpose? I love that you approach synthetics and religion (and even took the time to write a snippet of lore about it), but you mention that Hawun surrounded itself with synthetics that practiced the Isidorian faith. First of all, although this isn't in our lore (who knows, if you flesh it out, there could be a 'yet' at the end of that!), perhaps you could explain how so many synthetics in a single place would flock to this religion? Second, you're mentioning it's dipping its toes into religion. Is it fully invested in this faith? Why would Hawun dip into this faith other than proximity to fellow worshipers? Just to establish a bit of a timeline here, since its connection to fellow synthetics and the TCFL seems to be important to the character, was it present for the invasion of Frost? If these are character details you'd rather broach ICly, feel free to be a bit general. You have a lot going on here and I'm excited to see where you take it!
  12. There are quite a few plotlines that we've left unfinished yes, and while I'll have to sift through everything to see what can be resumed and what can be cut loose, I've always wanted to build up on where we left UNITY and the SLF arc and make a sort of "synthetic exodus arc" to more closely link the Frontier with IPCs. My only issue with such is that it's something we've essentially had before, and how to realistically portray it on station. Criminal synthetics tend to follow with the idea of escaping ownership but I will admit that I don't have anything prepared. Now that you bring it up, however, I'd like to explore how the supposed breakup of the SLF has affected the Biesel underworld and whatever underground modifications synthetics are free to do without government regulation.
  13. A bit of a quick reply so feel free to press further if my answers aren't sufficient. While I do have a few ideas I want to work and can try to throw around on my own, I'm good at being given a rough objective and working towards it. The Trinary Perfection is a very codified piece of lore, but right now it lacks some form of application. We have a few loose roles that people on station might have, but I think like a lot of things in lore, the Trinary Perfection needs a news event to toss it into the lime-light, perhaps. It also needs several notable actions (or perhaps schisms arguing whether or not synthetic life and cyborgification are acceptable for example) in order to create a better sense of what exactly it is they do and what their aims are more than a simple rulebook can provide. For example, we need to know if they operate robotics clinics, if a certain portion of them supported the SLF, or what sway they've had on galactic politics that can affect the Aurora. In being more lenient on memory or allowing for characters to upload their memories, part of me worries that players might see cyborgification akin to a less horrific rebirth. What are your thoughts on that? I am however open to expanding on cyborgs nonetheless. I did think about this issue when I wrote the essay and it's true that the power behind cyborgification is how soulless it leaves you. I will admit that we had a character who jaunted from human to cyborg, to cloned body which removes the gravity we have now. My thoughts aren't that we're going back to that, but cyborgification should simply reset the memory and stilt or warp the personality, as opposed to gutting those things out entirely, that way cyborg characters have some room to go to. Cyborgs should also have the option (or perhaps a minor canon event) that would open up the possibility of being an owned IPC. Cyborgification would still mean a horrific rebirth but it wouldn't mean a total end for the character, especially since this kind of advancement would only be available for very few cyborgs that manage to catch the eye of mad scientists or influential command. Any change would of course depend on whether or not the community wants it.
  14. Ckey/BYOND Username: The Stryker Position Being Applied For: (Species Maintainer, Wiki Maintainer, Lore Developer, Deputy Lore developer): Synthetic Lore Deputy Past Experiences/Knowledge: None whatsoever. Examples of Past Work: With regards to synthetic lore, I haven’t written anything. With regards to lore in general and my writing style, I have the Port Terrence application in the lore canonization forum. Here's an essay for my application and what I want to do with it, though. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pOl6ApVAQE9g5OoK7lgpfREnTqLqu3ziWClhICjvSwA/edit?usp=sharing Additional Comments: Feel free to ask any questions.
  15. As the title suggests, if you vote for a gamemode and it gets passed, you're automatically readied for the round. I did realize the exploit of logging out and logging back in but that's a seperate matter entirely and I don't want to force that on players, but this does put a little bit of responsibility behind voting for a round then just ghosting. I'm not very for or against this suggestion but I did feel like everyone else had something to weigh in especially since "voting for extended then not joining" seems to be in OOC every round.
  16. Sorry for the late reply, I've been thinking about how to rework this lore into something that isn't its own faction and depending on how you want to fit it into the lore I can either give you: 1. Port Terrence within the Sol Alliance with slipping control and Frontier sympathizers who want independence. 2. Frontier Port Terrence as a result of Scarab pressure and large offworlder population. Sol sympathizers want to return it to the Alliance. Although I want Dominia to be a major part of both possible lore rewrites, I don't see them being fully incorporated into the Empire owing to the distance and how such an action (SA colony being absorbed by the empire) would appear in galactic politics. If you still want to try for a Dominian Port Terrence, I'll see what I can do.
  17. I'm all for some form of interaction within cryopods but let's not forget that you're literally being frozen in a pod. Emoting is definitely possible and anything unreasonable is more a bad RP issue than a code issue. The only issue I can think of here is that when you're in the pod, you're occasionally in a bad enough way that you were already unconscious before getting in the pod so there has to be some sort of work-around for that. Just a random thought because I thought we had this but apparently didn't, if you're stuck in a pod for say, 20 or 30 minutes, there should be some possibility to resist out of it similar to breaking out of cuffs.
  18. Thanks for the response! My plan with this lore app is to have an independent planet resting between the Frontier Alliance and Sol Alliance (starting out as a breakaway of Sol), with plans to form an alliance with Dominia and possibly other planets in the lore. I left out the specific details of the alliance they want to form because the app was becoming too large to be readable and seems in-depth enough to become its own thing.
  19. Iirc, it's where the captain will get a questionable order (i remember one such being a bluespace disease and having orders to incinerate the infected if a cure fails) while another command member will have to stop it from happening. There was also something about a disc the rev head would have to secure to stop it. tldr objectives driven rev with heads
  20. Just want to throw my two cents in here but I've had amazing experiences with being alone on a derelict, including but not limited to being a Trinary Perfection pod survivor who crashed on the prison station and had to techpriest an AI off it while avoiding the turrets. Having actual human players in a derelict allows expeditions to be much more interactive and closer to the Star Trek episodes they were meant to be, especially when they're alreay getting so stale as for crew to be hoping for certain derelicts when they get their scanning report. Brutish sums up my point when he describes a shell shocked soldier taking potshots with a rinky dink service pistol. If this (I hope) gets implemented, then we also have to talk about when and how to spawn these guys. I personally think having two to three random spawner slots open at the start or thirty minutes into the round can already make for interesting albeit isolated RP, but if everyone's concerned about these two or three guys soloing the derelict before an expedition gets there (although that's a bit of a feat, especially with the PRA derelict), then some sort of check can be made to only allow the spawner a certain amount of time into the round, or when the expedition shuttle launches. I also think derelict survivors shouldn't get so much of an exposition/backstory when they spawn that way they can just make their own up on the spot allowing for more freedom. Anyway, that's just my two cents, and this get a big fat +1!
  21. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Faction Describe this proposal in a single sentence (12 word maximum): An independent planet standing against both Sol and the Frontier. How will this be reflected on-station? Like all the other planet proposals out there, this gives players the opportunity for more backstories and gimmicks. The nature of the faction also presents new lore opportunities and gimmicks especially for off-station characters. Does this faction/etc do anything not achieved by what already exists? It attempts to establish a neutral block, similar to Dominia, which isn’t affiliated between the major players while trying to connect our older Coalition of Colonies lore to the present. It also provides a potential background for ex-military characters. It also acts as a connection to Dominia, and more specifically their influence in the galaxy other than this weird anti-synth empire. Why should this be given to lore developers rather than remain player created lore?: I think factions, especially ones which can have a big impact on the galactic geography, should be given to the lore developers to be used as tools for advancing the lore in whatever way they see fit. Factions should also be given to the lore devs that way players can make characters from a faction as opposed to it being shared between only one or two people. Do you understand that if this is submitted, you are signing it away to the lore team, and that it's possible that it will change over time in ways that you may not forsee?: Yes. Long Description: https://imgur.com/a/gAstcYg (Supplementary photos) Republic of Port Terrence Summary A colony of offworlders, deserting soldiers, and megacorporate assets standing against both Sol and the Frontier, the Free Republic of Port Terrence declared their independence from the Alliance after the central government’s disapproval of their handling of a pro-Frontier insurgency. Alone and between giants, they now seek to form a faction of their own with other young planets for mutual protection while dealing with violence at home. History Politics Geography Notable Cities Culture Fauna and Flora Population Demographics Military Foreign Policy (A big thanks to Mwahahahaha, Simfantic, BoryaTheSlayer and The lancer for helping me out with this!) Quick edit: If this ever gets passed, I sprited a voidsuit for merc and heister gimmicks using this faction. port_terrence.dmi
  22. Floatsam play despacito As someone who's helped with the app, I can safely say that Nienna's put in a lot of time to working on a believable IPC and I'm confident that they won't do anything too snowflakey or unrealistic with their whitelist. I like the idea that it's attached to their older creations and a synthetic who has to contend with a life of having to jump from body to body and being used in whatever capacity their owner wanted to put it in. I hope the whole social difference between humans and IPCs is explored in depth given at the end of the day, Flotsam is property. This app gets a +1 from me.
  23. Just gonna drop in my two cents here based on some rounds I've been in with them as interim/actual CMO. ICly, they play a decent enough head as Alice White, no major outbursts or drama as a CMO. I can't speak to their HoP as I haven't been in enough rounds with them to judge. OOCly, they know what they're doing as a head, generally delegating and keeping people in a department participated in a round. They also generally know not to valid-salad an antag as a command member, which is really good for keeping a round going. This gets my +1.
  24. Borya plays a solid biomechanical engineer and cyborg game, always keeping in communication with the AI, and generally keeping in character. I've had nothing but good RP experiences with them, and generally a really good OOC attitude. Vesper's backstory isn't snowflake-y and touches on a few aspects of IPCs such as being bought and sold, and of course, the Frost invasion. Finally, I love how they touch on the IPCs don't think or act like humans in the app which is something I think should be touched on more in IPCs and synthetics in general. This app gets a +1 from me.
  25. It seems most of the arguments here are about adding a uniform that looks like a contractor's uniform, but only goes to a single person. I'd just like to point out that we have a lot of department-type uniforms as custom items, such as but not limited to, engineering jackets, varying types of chemistry labcoats/robes, worn out security hats, a chameleon kit-type wardrobe. An important bit about the FO ID is that it's worn out, invalidated, and we've had worn out detective badges and military IDs in the past, so an old ID from a workplace kept as a memento doesn't seem like such a stretch for a custom item. An overseer to a researcher isn't such a jump in role compared to other snowflakier backstories. Another thing is, feminine loadout might be lacking, but it's a bit much to restrict a custom uniform which, has enough yellow and red highlights to indicate a form of uniqueness. On the subject of uniqueness and what this does to other players, there are such things, as I said previously a normal security cap that's worn out, several mariziite robe apps, a black dress and a black coat isn't the end of the world for customization among contractors, especially when the outfit has been tailored to a specific character.
