  1. Experience shows that this isn't true, unfortunately. Whenever a chef charges AT ALL currently, there's a ton of complaints. You could set the price to ten credits and people fill common whining about being charged. This isn't theorizing. This is something I've witnessed a dozen times. I think your idea of price standardization is a good one.
  2. People do this a lot and it is annoying. Charge for food and common will be filled with complaints. Which is... absurd. It's part of it. But I view this like paperwork; yeah we SHOULD be filling it out, but many don't. However, some like paperwork. The people who don't like it have to suck it up and deal with it in these instances it's demanded, because it's something we should be doing. Just like the chef: They should be charging, but some don't. The difference is, for some reason, people scream about being charged and throw fits, rather than dealing with it as they should. It's not unreasonable to be charged at a work cafeteria. This makes the most sense to me. It's a work cafeteria setting. Meals don't change prices depending on which chef prepares the food that day. Imagine if cargo changed the handling fee based on whoever was working that day.
  3. I suppose if they get cash there's not much they can do to get it into the civilian account (Unless that's possible now?). Maybe that needs to be looked at, too. I assume you're not talking tips and mean you've seen people pocket money that's being charged for a meal. Agreed.
  4. Even a few sheets of each can kick off a good deal of research, so they're not sitting on their hands too long in RnD. Honestly I'm with the other miner mains. This is. Totally unnecessary. Interesting about the slagging penalty, though. I know what happened to cause that part of this rework. I actually never knew it penalized you.
  5. It feels like it's crossing from "childish and impulsive character" to an excuse to just engage in lolrandom behavior. I'm willing to believe it's kinda of a chaotic moment and a sort of one-time thing, especially since I did notice your connection issues. And I'm definitely not suggesting your command character will have this behavior, but it still reflects on you as a player if it goes beyond IC. Which, in this instance, I felt like it did. It feels like a weak justification for poor actions to me. It's hard for me to believe that someone who works as an EMT would need to be sat down and lectured about not doing dangerous things while exploring an unknown place, where we have found remains and such. But consequences for that are something I'd like to have seen handled ICly. Again, I don't think this is concerning to the point of denying you a command trial, but I felt like it was important to explain where my thoughts were coming from.
  6. Nailed it. Money's weird in the game. And no matter how easy payments are... it's still a pain in the butt compared to just not doing it. This is a pretty neat idea - I do want to say that the argument that the chefs shouldn't charge because everything is NT provided is... so bizarre to me. I know we hate the "realism" arguments sometimes, but if you've ever worked at a job with a cafeteria, you know you get charged. Maybe they're contracted, maybe they're directly employed, but they always charge. And in our corporate-ruled setting, where NT would borg you for profit, it makes sense to me that they'd charge for food. Squeeze back every credit of your paycheck. The chef wouldn't see a dime of it, just like any other cafeteria worker. Charging is nowhere near "running a restaurant." Using a vending machine for your lunch is also weird to me. Sure, I do know plenty of people who live off of vendor food and energy drinks, so a busy person would just swipe and get back to work. But for most people it's not a replacement for a lunch/dinner/breakfast. Feels gamey. Anyway, I'd pay for food if people charged. But the server culture right now is that people are used to not charging or being charged. Some chefs just don't want to deal with it. That should be fine. But if it shifted to being the standard, I wouldn't have any complaints. It makes more sense for the setting.
  7. Alright. Let's talk about the round last night. I realized halfway through that having a discussion via OOC isn't the best platform for this. I'll preface this post with this: I don't think this disqualifies you from a command trial. In fact, based on the feedback given, and the fact I haven't seen too many problems since Phi hasn't been active, I think a trial would be a great measure for you. But feedback is important for everyone. My issues, personally, with Kruger on the derelict: - My overall problem was that your RP seemed to slip because you OOC wanted to talk about the puppy closet, which you did talk about on common frequently after. Your character ignored the command-established protocol for exploring a dangerous and unknown ship. It felt like you wanted to be funny more than you wanted to RP realistically. It displayed a lack of realistic RP, fear RP, and generally felt like I was trying to wrangle a baldie rather than a respected player. It doesn't look good to see you ignoring command when you're applying for a command whitelist. Many of Kruger's actions were IC, and I'm fine with ICly annoying, childish, problematic characters and actions. It just seemed like your OOC wants spilled in, from where I'm standing. This is why I think a trial would be a good measure. I don't see you being a consistent problem on the server, and I had serious gripes with Phi. It seems like you've improved, though.
  8. This was not something I knew or considered. I take it back, then.
  9. Then perhaps a middle ground. Ten or fifteen minutes as opposed to twenty. Still impactful. But if you don't get cloned, you're not out for super long.
  10. Then you need to find a 24/7 extended server or a different game entirely. Even with updated cloning procedures as presented in the OP, you're still probably waiting a long time for cloning. Ten minutes is like, if medbay isn't busy and they get your body quickly. In many cases, cloning can take nearly as long as the respawn time or perhaps even longer. I don't think relaxing cloning requirements to not require a psych is going to fix the problems you seem to have with the game.
  11. While I agree it's frustrating that you need a specific job to be filled for something in a round, that's the nature of the station. Science needs mining. Orders need cargo. Robotics needs RnD. Staff changes require HoP. IPCs/Borgs require robotics for repairs. Etc. We make do in these situations, and sadly without a properly staffed med bay, we must make do without cloning. This isn't a terrible thing, as nobody should depend on it (Staffing aside, Abo raises a ton of points on how cloning could be prevented, and that's not even exhaustive). There's legitimate reasons to take a hard look at cloning. "Antags kill people" is not one of them, which is why I'm being so critical of this thread. Maybe we should revisit the trauma system which drove away many psych players in the first place, or ask ourselves if there are other reasons WHY the role isn't often played. And I certainly agree that forced conversion to an antag is incredibly annoying. But, again, that's the nature of the round. I hate vamp and I hate cult, and I hate playing those roles, and I totally get where you're coming from with being forced into them. But again, the round isn't just about what I want, and I try to make the most of it (barring shit antags like wordless thrallers). If you don't care about the antag's story, or other players' stories, why should anyone care about your character's? I honestly wonder if Aurora is the correct server for you.
  12. I agree. However, peacetag is not the only way to play. But right now it seems you're doing what you hate to see but reversed- you're calling for antags to play peacetag only, otherwise it's shit because they removed someone from a round with murder. You need to realize that not everyone wants to play this game how you do, and it's a community-based RP platform. Sometimes rounds don't go how you want. Players who want murder get peacetags. People who want peace deal with murder. You literally cannot please everyone in a 20-40 player game and if a round went poorly for you but everyone else enjoyed it, well, that's literally how community-based games go, and that sucks. Play extended. Alternatively, accept that if antags exist, you may be a target, and that's not a bad thing. You won't get to drive your story every round. RP is collaborative and this happens. I don't understand how you could be here for so long and not understand this. The fact that medical doesn't clone often isn't a problem. Nobody is owed cloning and from an RP standpoint it should be a strictly-monitored, traumatic, and difficult process. The trauma system blows but relaxing cloning standards isn't really something that's necessary right now IMO. Especially since the reasons presented are pretty weak.
  13. Are you... mad that antagonists do antaggy actions, up to and including murder? If that ruins your RP, then you should probably just play on extended. This entire suggestion comes off as entitled and whiny. If you don't want to be a target of an antag, don't play rounds with antags. Nobody owes you cloning because you're upset your character was taken out of the round. What are antags supposed to do at this point? If they murder, they're douchebags. If they don't, they're shit peacetags. Either way they get blasted by people who are mad they didn't mindread and consider their feelings and play the round how they wanted it to go. People die in antag rounds. That's the story of that round. Sometimes you're left alone entirely, sometimes you die quickly. Sometimes it's a bad antag who ganks you and then gets admin action; yeah that doesn't fix that specific round fort you as the victim, but.... well, that's too bad? Things happen. Strongly agreed.

  15. Strongly against removing access from janitors as noted in the PR, for the reasons the Schev and stev pointed out. For EMTs, I think they should have access to the two areas they're always called: Mining (Done) and through the way to xenobio. General access is concerning, and I echo Garn.
  16. So much better, man. Shane feels like a person now, while retaining a lot of that nervous edge and immaturity that we've come to know from him, without being over the top ridiculous. Doesn't feel like he's a literal LRP clown anymore. I can tell you've definitely taken critique seriously and I think that's huge of you. I've only seen you back in like, 2 or 3 rounds, but so far it feels like you're doing a good job playing him.
  17. Well, you're ashamed of your waifu and hide her- that's exactly why you don't have a gf.
  18. Updated thread to characters I actually play frequently. Edit: Updated again
  19. This is an absolutely incredible idea. But as arrow said, implementation might be too difficult. Still... Goodness, I'd love this.
  20. I didn't ask for the pros and cons to be summarized briefly; there is good discussion in the previous thread that would be tiring to repeat here, which was why I linked it. I've already stated my opinion in the other thread and it goes unchanged after a month. Nothing here changes my mind, either.
  21. There is a suggestion thread on this already posted just a month ago. Lots of discussion already present there, though it seems to have died down. It does discuss the pros and cons of other communication as well as voices of concern about being cut off from people, which echo the valid concerns nicemoreoften is raising.
  22. Cookie synthesizer and hugging module? If we have bots that can make cookies on demand there will be no reason to use the pray verb anymore, putting admins out of a job.
  23. I do like the idea of the borg that Delta posted, although it's a bit memey as-is. The idea is a good base to work on, though. edit: This is also a very good point. A good borg should not move to a staffed department, but many still do regardless.
  24. There are several players I trust to play secborgs well. I will miss the good moments with secORB and being a reliable tool for sec as Moth. It's sad to take away potential for good borg moments like these as sec. There are good borgs, so I'm kinda disappointed with the blanket statements that they're all shit or terrible validhunters. That's rude to people who do well with the role. But I recognize that there are five times as many validborgs out there, with no RP, who are ruining rounds. I'm not against their removal, as the points presented by chada are pretty solid. I won't argue that the good rp we get is worth the shit rp we endure, as the balance is heavily to the latter. It's not a bad idea.
