  1. VT's done an excellent job as lore writer. She also cares a lot about the team she works with (Like her previous skrell deputies). I agree she can be a bit abrasive when frustrated, but overall I don't think her attitude is much worse than a number of staff on the various teams throughout the server. I feel her writing is top-notch, her dedication to lore is strong, and she could do great things for our lore. I do miss you as skrell dev, though. +1 from me.
  2. Did something happen in medical when I was gone for a few months? Has its usage become common? Tricordrazine was a quick way to get the "medical mains" to laugh you out of medbay. 3/3/3/6 is great on paper but in practice it's uncommon to need to treat more than two injury types at once, and 3 damage a tick isn't going to be helping a critical patient more than a specialized medication will. Dex+ fixes all suffocation with even a 2u pill. Keloderm basically erases burn damage in seconds. Dylovene works better on toxins and is freely available. Bicaridine is a better choice for critical brute damage, which is a common one. Tricord is great for small injuries, triage, and when you don't have a chemist. It's more useful than medical purists say, but it's not overpowered at all.
  3. These are wonderful. I'd be interested in your commissions/rates. Do you have a site or preferred contact method? Forum PM?
  4. I can say with 100% confidence that there's not a single person on this server who is more dedicated to making Aurora the best it can be. Kyres puts incredible work in his writing, his planning, his teamwork, his spriting, his ideas and suggestions, and his RP. Kyres cares about this server and the community more than anyone I've met, and puts the work in to match. Giving him such a position would be nothing but great for everyone here and our lore in general. I seriously cannot praise this man's work and attitude enough.
  5. Stunbaton is an ungabunga instawin (except against sharks) crutch like flash used to be. Switch on, prod twice, congrats you won. I'd agree the taser/pepperspray could stand to be a little better if winbaton is removed from the starting loadout. Removing flash as a win button was a boon for the server. Sec had to adapt to having to actually work a little harder. I was maining sec at the time and it was great- I had incentive to use other tools, and learn how to operate the atrocious combat system. I'd like to see this get a trial run at least. I could only see this being an improvement.
  6. hmm today I will wonder if I'm out of touch?

No... it's the players who have headcanons are wrong

No. It's Aurora and it's community that's wrong.

  7. 7.9) When bwoinked about how your character knows how to use a stealth suit, claim you were only testing it/showing it to prove it's dangerous/were told how to use it by the antag Always remember that you are NOT a security member but actually part of a well-trained paramilitary force. Never show fear or hesitation, and berate any officer who does, both IC and in LOOC/Dchat. You're a bootlicker IRL so make sure to represent that in your character, otherwise it might be hard to fulfill your power fantasy. Sharks are the enemy You can recognize things like stealth suits, because obviously as a security member entrusted with the station, you can identify all antagonist equipment. Peaceful gimmicks are bad gimmicks, and a ss13 sin of the highest order. Remember: only violence is fun, and anyone who disagrees is clearly wrong. Make sure to verbally abuse these awful antags in ooc/dchat whenever you can, relentlessly, even when you're not playing. Find a reason to engage them as sec (see 7.5). The antags are doing it wrong if they don't have the most interaction with security above other departments. SS13 is a combat simulator first and roleplaying platform second. If the antags attempt to use an announcement, your keen security senses can pick apart every flaw in it. They shouldn't be using it if it isn't airtight and foolproof; leniency is weakness! Be sure to scream your observations out on common. Bother command until they fax mommy central. If they don't, they're clearly a traitor, and must be killed. If you don't follow this guide, prepare to be roasted in OOC. Remember that security is a mindless force, and your character is simply an avatar of that, instead of a character. If you can't robust the antags to crew expectations, or elect to hide and show fear instead of responding to calls, you're shitsec and deserve the player complaint you're about to receive. You definitely have the training in whatever skill you need at the time to chase the antags. Using lathes? Hacking lathes? Disarming bombs? You know it. Never ever leave a cuffed suspect alone! Always be dragging them in a square. Baton them when they criticize you.
  8. I hope I'm misunderstanding this point - the point of the trial is to see if you're fit for the position and able to conduct yourself in a manner befitting staff, not to see if the players can handle your abrasive nature. All I'll say is I hope you improve yourself and your conduct, especially in OOC channels. I don't have confidence that you can do so timely, but I hope I'm wrong as I have been before. If the staff team wishes to grant you a trial, then good luck. But I do not believe you deserve this chance until after you've changed your behavior.
  9. This is my major concern with this app. You fire back often and hard. You also do your own fair bit of instigating in OOC and Dchat. We all are guilty of this, but I'm going to give you feedback similar to what I told Paradox: You are one of the more consistently abrasive and perhaps toxic people I've seen, and one among several names that led to me quitting the discord channels and my original mute on OOC. I had some faith in him to improve, but I can't say I feel the same for you at this time. You are very critical, and don't choose your words carefully, especially when it comes to antags trying new gimmicks and the like. You're not a great representative of this community, and I feel like that's a bad quality for a mod. I don't know that I can trust you when you say this: Or that you're able to remain level-headed and impartial, based on past and current behavior. I would love to be wrong, of course, and I'd like to see you chill out a lot. But right now I can't support this app for trial. I don't think you, at this time, would make a good moderator. A -1 from me, I'm afraid.
  10. I have to agree with Arrow and Ben on this, for the reasons stated.
  11. I feel as though this should be a ban request, maybe. One I'd support. Let us also look at this part of the linked thread: To show the very recent history of this behavior, there are plenty of other threads to view similar conduct. His command whitelist thread is full of passive aggressive and backhanded remarks. Full of players noting his poor attitude. https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/11969-denied-command-whitelist-app-theorleans/ In one of his most recent player complaint threads, we have more aggressive and rude behavior, such as consistent accusations of a player acting in bad faith, even after Garn asked him to dial it back. Again, also full of players noting his terrible attitude. Admitting to his tone, while also accusing everyone else of poor faith and bullying. More evidence of his toxic tone in his complaint against synth: https://forums.aurorastation.org/topic/12066-staff-complaint-3-days-ban-by-house-of-synth/?do=findComment&comment=115925 Honestly, I think Orleans is toxic without the ability to recognize it. Very few times does he actually take any responsibility for his comments or his actions, instead trying to pass them off as other people being bullies. I'm not going to armchair psych him. I will just agree that he has no place in this community while his attitude has no signs of changing. Time away may help. Prior bans (temp and perma) and warnings have not corrected his behavior. I want to see you improve, man, I really do. But until you can, I don't want to see you here. edit: This'll be my only post, unless clarification or further evidence is needed.
  12. Seems like a great character, lots of depth, lots of exploring established unathi lore in a way most haven't from what I've seen. You have great character concepts and better execution, making your characters feel like they have lives outside of the station with plenty of substance to them. Props for making an app with what's apparently a controversial concept, despite it being lore-accurate. Reminds me of applying with a Guwan. Also, you play one excellent Dominian character, so I've no doubt you'll bring out the Empire in this one. I'd like to see more details with the question about what makes roleplaying them different from a human, even though I'm sure you do understand. I'd like to see JB's points addressed, as well, as these are some thoughts I shared. However, for now I give a hearty +1 based on the app, your RP, and your ooc conduct.
  13. I propose we change it to a space shark eating someone.
  14. hmm today I will mute ooc again because I realized it's making me Rudetm. Sorry to those I've sassed lately instead of speaking like a reasonable Human Person(c)

  15. This is art in its highest form. Absolutely incredible.
  16. This set an excellent bar for holiday events. The entirely separate map (THANK YOU JOSHIE) was what really set it apart from other events. No obligations to work, with a whole new environment to explore. It was like super extended, and it worked out wonderfully. The additional NPCs were great. The small events like the hotdog eating contest were nice touches. People made their own fun and had a great time. I think this was a fantastic test run for holidays. I bet the map would have been even better with more advance notice! Overall, this gets me excited for future holiday events. Well done to everyone who handled it, from map to dev work to npcs to organization.
  17. Captain here. I can confirm that things were going rather peacefully for the duration I was in round (Despite Max screaming bloody murder over sec comms about "Bogeys" and being outgunned equipment-wise when the raiders were first arriving), and that I had asked the visitors to keep weapons holstered and stow the rifle. I told them that they'd need a security escort for now (with plans to lift it later if they behaved), said they were free to walk around the public areas, and left it in the hands of sec and the interim HoS, since I don't want to micromanage while I have a capable head of staff. Though throughout the conversation, it was Longshot who seemed antsy to leave, and I can confirm that I saw what Nantei said about him emerging from maint with a gun. Once we make agreements and I offer to cover the visitors' drinks for the duration of the shift, I go to make an update announcement for the crew. In the time it takes me to get to my office from the bar, I've already heard chatter of one of them trespassing (Which, according to Crystal's post, seems to have been Longshot), forcing me to make my announcement a little more of a warning than an update. Still, it goes well for a time. I ask the HoP to fax an update to central, along with a note that the scarab "raiders" are looking to trade, and requesting permission to do so. Security grumbles IC about my decision to let them tour the station, talking about making reports to CCIA, (IC drama, all good), and to their credit they don't escalate or fight with the visitors (And it was funny as hell listening to them trying to organize keeping watch). Unfortunately, shortly after, I could not bear my migraine any longer, and went to cryo at around the hour mark IIRC. It's sad to hear the round devolved into violence, as the HoS and I worked very hard to try and enable them as much as we could ICly, and it seemed that everyone was enjoying themselves. There was no escalation towards a violent confrontation (especially of this scale) during my time in-round.
  18. Basically summed up with these two. Engineering militias are already a meme and frankly you're not going to stop an engineer who wants to get the axe with two airlocks.
  19. You can change it. There are people that prefer it, and people who don't. This is the point of having options. Then they don't care and everything's fine??? I'm not sure what you're getting at. I'm really not even sure what your problem is? You don't like backpacks. You can freely choose another option. No problem there. Unless the problem is that you don't like that other people are wearing backpacks? That's not a problem, that's an opinion. I hate to tell you this but sometimes people like what you don't and you have to deal with that.
  20. A more thought out suggestion than cries to just outright remove it. The command bit is an interesting thought. The pros, as I see it, include antags not having to worry about cries happening before they can type "Shh." That's a big positive. Additionally, as Schev said, we get the "screamers" and shittalkers off the common frequency, who treat it more like a chatroom than a series of radio communications. Also MAYBE people would learn not to yell out things on common about medical information and handling peoples' dead bodies... On the flipside, Conspiir has some really great points that warrant further discussion. Firstly, his take on how the pizza order interaction would go is how it is 9/10 times. Doesn't matter if it's on the radio or on a holopad or in person; that interaction isn't changing much, if at all, I promise you. This is the crux of it. Departments already have an issue of "us and them" thinking, and I worry this would strengthen it. Some people are already hurting for interaction, and we can't ignore that while this would help many interact, it would also hurt others. The question I ask myself when I read this is if it helps us more than harms us. I think it prrrrobably would work out as a positive for many. An extensive test merge would tell. As it stands, though, I share conspiir's hesitation.
  21. Iron's one of the best synth RPers on the server and has done great things with synth lore. Sad I don't see B-4 or Oscar as much as I used to, but I'll absolutely back Iron on his RP ability alone. +1
  22. I've observed AIDE in action a few rounds. Looks like Stev's doing as well as I expected with the role. Maintaining my +1 for this app.
  23. Staff Complaint: Kyres Reason: Ruining shitty sprites in favor of making our server nice looking and unique or some snowflake bullshit smh
  24. I like the current iteration in the OP. Glad this whole thread agrees that anything replacing the hideous bright red is a welcome change, at least.
