[Accepted] Doxxmedearly's Skrell App
Doxxmedearly replied to Doxxmedearly's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
@VTCobaltblood She is a receiver. I don't feel like it's had MAJOR impacts on her life, but certainly she has felt the influences throughout a lifetime of working leading teams of skrell. When her team experiences setbacks, they can feel overwhelming due to the echo chamber. The joy of triumphs inspire all of them. It's also something she had to adapt to when working with humans; since they aren't connected to the Wake, there's a bit of a disconnect that took years to get used to. I think she has confidence with her telepathy and Srom projecting, even if her player doesn't. As for captainship: My first thought for this was her many years of experience leading her own team while coordinating with others doing the same. Maybe early on a chief engineer would have been a good role, and she certainly qualifies for it, but throughout her years, she's had to coordinate on larger-scale team projects. The colony on Ouerea, for example, would have been a large project requiring the expertise and insight of many, including humans, from all sorts of different areas of study. Moving over to Tau Ceti, I feel as though he had a leading position in helping build, plan, or improve/expand several assets there, such as the Hospital Stations or Triage centers, which would require working with other team leaders from multiple fields of study. It's the inter-departmental coordination (and many years of NT trust) that qualified her for captainship rather than just chief engineer. @Aboshedab Wow, thank you. That's extremely high praise. I'll be doing my best to show that through my RP. I didn't mention children initially but I feel like I expanded sufficiently responding to Conspiir. She does not have any, nor does she, at this time, have a Qu'Poxii. However, these are certainly both something that she thinks about frequently. She maintains contact with her old team and is doing something to foster a Qu'Poxii, as these are people she's developed a bond with for a long time. She certainly wants children, and is looking to invest in fertility treatments within the next few years. -
[Accepted] Doxxmedearly's Skrell App
Doxxmedearly replied to Doxxmedearly's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
@Conspiir This is extremely high praise coming from who I consider to be the best skrell player on the server, and the one who initially rekindled my interest in the species, so thank you. You leave excellent feedback on all skrell apps so I kept those questions in mind when writing. As for children? She does not have any, nor can she, but she has hope that treatments can allow her to one day. She would absolutely invest in said treatments, because I feel she really does hope to have children of her own. @DeadLantern Thanks for the feedback! It's a good thought to bear in mind. -
BYOND Key: Doxxmedearly Character Names: Currently: Rowan Fortune, Hadiyya Nejem, Moth, Sabra Maha, Polentia Teagarden, Leviathan-LXI Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Inky blue Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: No I made it up Absolutely Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: When I first started, I didn’t. But the lore development in the past few months has been interesting to watch, and now they feel more alien rather than just being “kinda weird humans.” There have been a lot of great skrell characters I’ve interacted with which sort of rekindled my desire to look at the species. Since I’ve come back to being active on the server, I feel that I’d like to try out some skrell concepts for myself. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Hoo boy. There’s a lot! Of course we have mechanical differences, such as skrellepathy and the Srom and passing out at the club after one shot. They’ve got a long history and lifespan. This leads to things such as hatred or disdain for AI due to Glorsh (Or maybe a sort of forbidden curiosity, for the younger ones who didn’t witness the horrors or rebuilding afterwards). They tend to view the younger species in the same way an adult might view a child. This can lean more towards condescending or towards feeling like a caretaker (or a mix of both). Speaking of children, they’re extremely celebrated by skrell, due to their history with being sterilized and slow population recovery. Children, and really most skrell, are often raised with a focus on being model citizens for the federation, through parental guidance, government-influenced media and social media, and idols. They have a culture based on excelling, with laborers being pampered to keep them happy, but looked on as lazy, and those who excel as researchers, artists, etc. being celebrated and popular. This’ll affect how a skrell views and interacts with others. Their emotions are easily read by one another, but mostly lost on non-skrell due to the tones and subtle expressions they can’t catch. Even their humor is pretty alien compared to the other species; humor produces a burning sort of tingling, and even the way they tell jokes is different than humans. They have different views on relationships, with some being quite specific, though most of them based on the development of the relationship (Such as a temporary relationship, an unexpected one, one for trusted coworkers, etc). Gender really doesn’t mean much to them, and polyamory is a norm. They also tend to ask extremely probing questions when meeting a new person, so they can figure out what to say or not to. This is pretty relevant when RPing on a station where there are new faces all the time. Also they chirrup when startled or nervous or laughing, which is frankly cute as hell. They’re expressive, just in a way that’s not easy to catch by non-skrell. Character Name: Quiplsh Ishoph’Tealin. Please provide a short backstory for this character: What do you like about this character? She’s an enthusiastic individual with a legitimate love for working in space and has faith in NT. While she possesses the education and careful thought one might expect from a Skrell, she’s also extremely into the culture of humans and Tau Ceti, specifically music and art; I feel sometimes people (including myself) forget that Skrell aren’t just stoic logic machines and scientists. She takes a legitimate interest in the people working under her, and may be a bit more fun/social than people expect IC when they think “skrell captain.” Also, plotting out her history was very fun with all the major timeline events. I really like how much she’s seen and what experiences she’s had. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Certainly room for improvement, but I feel that I do very well with my current whitelists and characters. Notes: I know I am often critical on whitelist app feedback, and I welcome the same in return. There’s a lot to skrell that I may not have picked up on or misread, as I struggle with large amounts of info.

I agree. It's something to be aware of, is all. I believe the points Jo and Conspiir put out are excellent tweaks to the original idea.
-
That's not a bad point. You'd probably also see people snagging wirecutters and turning every bedsheet on the station into a bandage stash.
-
The idea as proposed is a good one, especially how UncleJo envisions it. It would be great to be able to apply a rag or something to a wound.
-
hmm today I will make another "snowflake."
-
This is a pretty over-the-top suggestion for what's basically a non-issue. The effects of hunger are barely felt so calling it powergaming feels a touch on the dramatic side. Conspiir's hit this on the head. It's rarely a thing people do anyway and just feels like a punishing and unfun limit suggested because it irritates you to watch people eat quickly. If we're citing realism, watching someone slam down a plate of ribs quickly is no more of an issue than eating a cake with a fork in three bites, or eating pizza with a spoon. This feels tedious and punishing for no real reason.

Alright, I promised more in-depth feedback, so here we go. TL;DR is that I would very much like to see VT on trial. Firstly, the app itself looks like it has the effort the previous one lacked. I know you really do want this, and now it looks like it. Great job listening to feedback on the last one. Regarding characters and RP, namely the big name from last time: Bretscher. Bretscher is a great example of your ability to RP. He is not a friendly character. He's an asshole. You are trying to play him as such, and you do so successfully. What's important here is that he is a GOOD CHARACTER, just not a good person. He's consistent, and I've had extremely good interactions with him as Hadiyya with their mutual animosity towards each other. Brestcher isn't over-the-top, self-antagging, getting fired every shift, screaming on common, racking up IRs, notes, and warnings. No, he's a realistic character with a short temper who fits our HRP environment along with other notable jerks, such as Gonzales. He has a mental illness that doesn't excuse shitty behavior or over-the-top actions, and is roleplayed believably. What's most important is that you recognize and specifically mention several times throughout all of your apps that he is not fit for a command position, and never will be. This, to me, says you know exactly what type of character should and shouldn't be seen in such a position, and you've gone on record a dozen times saying you have no intention, nor would you ever, promote him to RD. What your RP with him since your time here has shown me is this: You excel at RP in our HRP environment, you know how to make believable and consistent characters, you know how to RP annoyance, conflict, and passive aggressive behavior without it being LRP or unbelievable, you know your department, you can deal with people being rude to you/critical of you, and you know what is and isn't acceptable for a command character. In short, I feel like your characters are exactly why I think you're able to handle a command whitelist. You're one of the best RPers I know. The RD profile you listed in your previous application is brilliant, and certainly a qualified individual for the position. There's a lot of thought put into them, which tells me you're not doing this on a whim. I believe you have the abilities to bring out that character and contribute to a round as command. OOCly, I know you enjoy the server, and actively work to improve it, whether through lore or PRs as a contributor. You're not in it to win it, and would rather see the round be enjoyable for all. This is, to me, the most important quality a command member should have. I also feel like it's a positive note that you've re-applied when you feel you're ready. In this instance, I feel a trial is appropriate for you to prove that you can play a personality unlike your well-known characters. If you can't, it will quickly become apparent during the week, and the whitelist team can take that into consideration. I'm confident people will enjoy the results of you as a command member, and hope you can have a chance to prove such to those who confuse VTCobaltblood, the player, with Bretscher, the character. I also made this mistake for a few months, when you first joined, and I apologize for it. You're a great person OOC, and the community is better for having you in it. I'm wishing you the best of luck. I feel this opportunity has been earned. edit: Of course, I forgot to officially say +1

I didn't know you from your moderator days, only from synthdev days. I liked your temperament and judgement calls, so I feel you'd be good at the job, even if you didn't have mod experience. My only concern now is your activity level. I don't know how much you've been playing lately, but I feel like I barely knew you or saw you, ever, as a lore dev. Do you think you'll be decently active on the server as a moderator?

[Accepted]Cnaym's command whitelist app
Doxxmedearly replied to Cnaym's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Your RP seems solid enough and you do department checks as an RD which aren't intrusive. My major gripe with working under your RD so far is how frequently you seem to be either SSD, afk, or otherwise unresponsive. It's not a great habit for a head of staff and I've had several attempts to communicate on the radio go ignored. I'd like to see you be more attentive to what's going on; while radio chatter as command can certainly get convoluted, it's important to communicate. But my experiences have been more positive than negative so far. When you ARE around, you do a good job coordinating the department and giving work to lab assistants. It's also kind of... odd to see an aunt and uncle of one of your characters get command positions quickly to watch her. Something about that strikes me as weird. But that's not my focus here. Overall it's neither a +1 or -1 from me. If I saw you be a bit more responsive on the radio and not SSD, it would be a +1. Good luck! -
I don't need to add to the heap of well-deserved praise present in this thread. Abo, you are a dear friend and part of the reason I stayed in this server; I thought the way staff operated and handled problems was brilliant and fair, and I still do. My only concern is something Joshie raised to you on discord. I remember you being burnt out, talking about how it was hard for you to enjoy playing with your headmin duties, and frankly not being in a good state of health. You like to take on a lot of work and you love this community dearly. I think moderator will be far less stressful for you, but I want you to seriously consider this. I mean, sit down and think. Will this affect how you enjoy rounds? Will you be taking on too much? Is this going to affect your happiness? You have my biggest +1 and I will support your choices. I would love to see you back on as a moderator, but only if you are sure you will not be stressed out by it. I trust you to judge your own limits. Godspeed.

I agree that the app seems lazily written. Which is weird, because I know you're a person who puts effort into most of the things you do. It feels like you don't even really want it from the way you've presented yourself. And no, it's not just due to capitalization. As far as you as a player, I owe it to you to be honest. We've disagreed in the past. Sometimes you've got a level head, sometimes it feels like you're confrontational. Lately it seems to be the former, which I'm happy about. I wish your OOC conduct was better sometimes; you can be a bit insulting I think without realizing it. I know you're not Bretscher, and I think overall you've improved since I first knew you. It's something I'd like you to be mindful about, regardless. I'm 95% sure that you do care about facilitating RP and making the round fun for others. You're probably one of the most knowledgeable science players we have. I do have concerns that you might be impatient with people new to the department, or perhaps with players you don't like. You're skilled, but I sense that you also get frustrated when you're around other people who might not be; ICly, this is fine. OOCly, it is not, and I feel like it can be a bit of both. Bretscher is a good character. Qusk I feel is a bit of a meme. I'd like to know more about the RD you've created, personally. You care a lot about the setting, lore, and server, which I feel is pretty important. Your RP is good. Overall, I think I trust you with this. I'll support with a +1 for at least a trial, if you really do want the whitelist.

While the idea of a multi-tool scanner is a pretty creative idea, I feel this would sit better as an item science could make for medical which would see use for the whole department. I'm fairly certain items that are more than just cosmetic replacements (Khasan's bucket) or unique-but-fluff-only (Liza's Carving Tools, Fernando's knitting supplies) aren't allowed as a custom item due to powergaming issues. Since this is combining the utility of several medical tools, I don't think it's an appropriate custom item, even with the drawbacks (Which require additional code, I think?). A reskinned health scanner or something would be more appropriate, as the item appearance you're referencing is pretty cool. Also, keep in mind you'd need to be able to secure sprites for this item!

Coalf Wiki Developer Application
Doxxmedearly replied to Coalf's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Only +1 if you continue to protect my books Coalf is abrasive more often than not, and frankly didn't leave on the kindest terms. Sometimes I like you, sometimes I'm glad I don't speak to you much OOC. That said, he's always been committed to doing good work for the server. I'd give my own +1 for this app if Chada's concerns are addressed. I'd be happy to see coalf doing maintainer work. edit: Well, he ninja'd me. Good enough for me. I trust coalf's word; he's always been good on it from my experiences. +1 -
[Denied] miniusAreas IPC Whitelist Application
Doxxmedearly replied to MiniusAreas's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I have to echo Paradox and VT. Your synth play is extremely poor- too human, too juvenile. I have one screenshot example, but this is far from the only instance. I don't feel that you understand synth play fully at this moment. I recommend toning down the emotion-filled speech, including berating or cussing at the crew. A -1 from me, I'm afraid. -
[Denied] Command Whitelist APP - TheOrleans
Doxxmedearly replied to TheOrleans's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
This is exactly what I mean when I say you're tiring to deal with OOC. You ask for feedback, and receive it. You are not entitled to it, and people are taking the time from their day to point out what they view as potential problems. Instead of giving thought to what is said, you try to dispute the validity of said feedback in an incredibly rude and backhanded way. Not all points of feedback will be valid. But if you seek it out, you should take it, give it some thorough thought, and figure out what is and isn't constructive. If several people are pointing out similar issues, it's likely that there are problems there that need to be looked at. There is not a post on this second page (made by others) that I disagree with. Feedback is there to help you improve. You need to use it; it's more than just your rp that you need to work on. If you cannot see the problem with your tone throughout this thread, then you are nowhere near ready for the responsibility of any whitelist. -
[ACCEPTED] Stev's Command Application
Doxxmedearly replied to stev's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Lichfield and Amachye are some of the best characters I've seen, and stev is an excellent RPer as well as a decent sort in OOC. They understand the game concepts, they understand how not to overstep their fellow players, and I certainly get a sense that they would really do a great job facilitating the fun and story round for other people. I haven't seen A.I.D.E. but a +1 from past experiences IC and OOC. -
[Accepted] Tailson's Dionae Application
Doxxmedearly replied to Tailson's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I can't speak to the story, but Tailson's one of the RPers I look up to as a role model, both IC and OOC. He's a delightful lad who puts effort into the things he does, engages players new and old, and is familiar with the lore. I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't know and appreciate Harmony. He'll be an excellent example to any other player with an interest in the species. Hearty +1 -
[Denied] Command Whitelist APP - TheOrleans
Doxxmedearly replied to TheOrleans's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The best way I can describe RPing with or seeing your characters is tiring. You toe the line a lot between what's acceptable IC and OOC behavior and what's not. While I know you're saying Nick isn't your head of staff for this app, it's still important to bring up how people experience RP with the character you're most infamous for (One that, frankly, I would be happy to never see on the manifest again). And from what I've seen from you, I don't believe that at this point in time you're capable of creating a character that would be a decent head of staff. I get a strong vibe of wanting to always be in the spotlight from you, as well as self-antagging behavior disguised under "Oh he's just an asshole." Very rarely do I get the sense that you care about driving the round for the people around you, rather than just caring about your own amusement. You're also a poor example of someone with acceptable OOC conduct. I like to believe in people. But your behavior, IC and OOC, your characters, and how you play, gives me no confidence at this time. I'd love to be wrong, but it's not a reputation you're going to undo quickly. I would need to see earnest, consistent, and marked improvement in your IC and OOC behavior over a period of months, if not a year, before I would consider you fit for a head of staff trial. -1 -
I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised by Paradox's handling of my ahelps during his trial. While in my eyes you still have a lot of past behavior to correct, so far you seem to be sticking to your word. Pretty glad and maybe a little proud to see that. I'm not against you becoming a mod due to what you've shown so far.
-
Either solution is fine, but we need one of them. Janicarts are one thing. It's funny and has happened to me plenty. Pushing material crates and roller beds, however, is another. This is why I feel good ol' beeps should stop pushing objects. Either pass through or stop.
-
I witness you leaving rounds early frequently, which happens, but it's not something command should be in the habit of doing. I think my biggest hesitation here is that you play antag endlessly. It's at the point where I have to try extremely hard not to see one of your characters and go "I wonder what kind of antag they are this round." Part of me wonders if you want this just to have additional gimmicks, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this. And while your antag play may not be ban-worthy anymore, it's uninspired and doesn't, from my experience, really add positively to the round. I'll echo the other sentiments that say you toe the line often. Your OOC conduct remains questionable and abrasive in most instances. Far too much salt. In the end, I don't think I trust you to perform the duties OOC that Command needs to fill. A -1 from me, I'm afraid.
-
What King is referencing is exactly the type of thing I mentioned in your first app. That doesn't appear to have changed whatsoever. Command is about delegating tasks and finding ways to make the round enjoyable for others, as you have that power at your disposal. It is not about being in the spotlight or being a super doctor. You have serious powergaming issues that need to be curbed before I feel that you've earned a trial. It's disingenuous to assume we have not played with or witnessed his play before making our feedback. I may not play as much as I used to but I am still around. I'm not making these comments lightly. It's the admins decision in the end. I've provided my feedback. I hope to see continuing improvement.
