Sleepycat raises some concerns I want to echo. I won't touch the issue of having bans, and I don't play other servers, so I'm going by the app itself and my personal experiences with you. Back when you first came here a few months ago, you weren't someone I enjoyed working with. Feufer wasn't fit for security. T.I.C.K.E.T. had a really rough start. But since then, and since Feufer has moved to medical, I've seen noticeable improvements. I think you can continue to improve, and that's great. You have been a bit less active as of late. You're juggling multiple servers. I'm not sure you're active enough currently to warrant being a moderator for this server. Your answers are very bare-bones, and I don't think your response to Sleepycat does you any favors when looking at how well you take criticism. As staff, you're going to face a lot. I'm not sure at this point you can handle it, but I may be wrong. Your enthusiasm is good. You've improved yourself. But given the app, response made, and my experiences with you, I'm hesitant to offer this my support. I hope you take more time during the interview to answer questions, and am eager to see if your other-server mod experience shows. If you do not get accepted, then I suggest you continue to improve yourself as you have been, and spend more time being active on the server, forums, and to a lesser extent, discord. Good luck.

Yep, this is both a believable thing to see, and would be another neat tool in the malf gimmick toolbox. +1!

Mmmm yeah I didn't actually consider that they'd be on board during antag stuff. I'm cool with the sprites existing for staff events but. Yeah I totally overlooked that whole "people die a lot" thing. -
BYOND key: Doxxmedearly Character names: Sikaevi Suhn’Krashzkrikh, Sazya Xichi, Rowan Fortune, Amadi Udoka, Nahjiya Khayaram, Ka’Akaix’Myrz C’thur, and Moth are my most played as of late. Full list in the signature. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About 5 1/2 months now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I’m branching out and exploring all sorts of different jobs, now that I’m comfortable with the game engine. Command is… intimidating, but I’d like to experience playing such a vital role in rounds. It’s interesting, to say the least, and I want to know more about how it runs, and see what it's like to RP in such a vital role. Why did you come to Aurora?: I’m very into roleplay, and have been my whole life. A friend showed me SS13 many, many years ago, where I played maybe three rounds on Bay. SS13 is… a very incredible game for facilitating roleplay. I randomly felt an itch to play, and looked for servers that would suit what I was looking for (HRP). The Aurora grabbed my attention more than re-looking at Bay did. This has since been my only server. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Several times. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I believe I have three or four notes regarding minor mistakes I made with my RP, which I used to improve myself going forward. I have no warnings or bans. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is like a collaborative story. It’s about placing yourself in the shoes of a character and letting them explore the world they’re in, grow, and interact with other people. Roleplay isn’t about winning or losing; it’s about the story you write with other people by trying to live it out as a character. It should be a collaborative effort between everyone to see “what happens next;” where the tale goes (no matter how mundane it might be), explore the narrative, and play out the struggles, triumphs, arguments, and friendships along the way. It’s just as much about exploring a character’s weaknesses and failures as it is their strengths. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOC, Head of Staff are in a position that can sway the round, using tools such as code changes, faxes, and announcements to dictate general direction. They should never control the round, but they can provide structure to it when antag shenanigans hit the fan. They should do their best to make sure the round is interesting for the players working under them. Communication, making sure the characters have what they need for their job, and enabling character interaction are things that heads can, and should, do. They are their own characters, of course, but as a head, there's an entire department (or several) that depend at least partially on you to guide them, answer questions, resolve disputes, and assist them where needed. As well, Heads should be a person a player can depend on and go to when they need to learn about a job or job duties, and give a little bit of guidance. While any player can do this, I believe that a Head should be someone that should be depended on to do this in-game. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players have the additional responsibility of being an example, both with their IC and OOC conduct. OOCly, a player trusted with being a command member should be someone that can be trusted not to do things such as meta- or power-gaming, validhunting, or just having really abrasive/toxic conduct OOC (Even if their IC character is a short-tempered tightass). It’s an important whitelist to be trusted with, so you need to remember that you’re serving as a role-model to other players, especially the ones in your department. I believe I can be such an example to other players. I plan to assist players both ICly and OOCly as needed, and work on improving my RP as always; hopefully, this will encourage other players to do the same. I’m patient when it comes to guiding others, believe I can produce solid RP, and will do my best to refrain from bad OOC conduct, such as insults, salting, etc. I'll be listening for any advice or criticisms of how I do these things, and work better to uphold what's expected of me. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? The biggest news right now is, of course, the Lii’dra incursion into Tau Ceti (And Zo’ra zzzzoda). While technically “over” (lmao no), people are still reeling from the effects of such a bold assault. Vaurca racism is on the rise, there’s paranoia about infiltration, emergency prepping for a return assault… and meanwhile, the enigmatic “Purpose” is involved with this, and the Tajaran ALA/Syndicate has made a bold move in infiltrating the Aurora to learn about the SM. For my HoP, her fathers lived in the Hengsha Arcology, (one works at the Idris Incorporated branch there). While alive, the fear has left her permanently shaken, and paranoid about any more Lii’dra news. She believes Tau Ceti should surrender the Zo’ra queen, now. Career-wise, she has absolutely demanded more pay for working in hazardous conditions, and is networking with businesses in other systems, to have her foot in the door in case things get too dangerous. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Head of Personnel. After a trial of getting used to command, I would like to try my hand at Captainship. With a bit more engineering know-how (Atmos, you're so scary), I could see myself doing a CE in a month or two. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Beatrix St. Claire (HoP – New Character) Mari Tanaka (Captain - New Character) How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Solid. I can play a lot of roles and I’m confident I can make fleshed-out characters that behave reasonably and realistically. People seem to enjoy their interactions with me, but I know I can do better. I need to slow myself down a bit, and now that I actually know a lot about the game mechanics, make sure I’m not meta-ing anything. So, I’m confident, but recognize there’s plenty of space to improve. There's a lot of good players here that I'm still learning from. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Absolutely. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I have, and I will probably keep them open while playing for the first long while. Extra notes: Finally going for it! It’ll be a rough start as I learn the mechanics of command (faxing, ID changing, etc) but I’ve been a quick learner so far.

PLEASE. I've wanted to do that wizard gimmick for a long time. I like it. It can also be a good addition to refugee/visitation events. I just wonder how much spriting adjustments would need to be done regarding clothing and such. Seems like a difficult implementation on the surface, but also I really love the idea. -
This really does fit the theme of a ninja. I'm surprised it wasn't already a thing. Definitely supporting this one, +1

Add typing sounds to laptops and consoles.
Doxxmedearly replied to Dr. Farson's topic in Completed Projects
Honestly, ever since we added the really nice scratchy writing noises, I've wanted more little ambient sounds like this. If it's not a pain code-wise, I agree that this would be a neat little addition. -
I don't think this will do much of anything to fix any problems of powergaming. I can just max skill my character and do anything, like I can now. If I'm doing something beyond reasonable expectations, it's going to have to be noticed and ahelped. And they're going to have to open up my skills and look at them before passing a judgement. That's just like it is right now; it seems all this is going to do is cause frustration without fixing the problem it seeks to address. Mechanical implementations are not the solution for subpar RP. They can't be, because it's a learned skill. RP is something that's based around good faith, player interaction, and reasonable moderation, not mechanical crunchiness. And if I can just max my character's skills anyway, what does this change? I'm pretty much with JB and Bauser here. Is this really such a tremendous issue? Because it sounds like most people are a little frustrated with staff not enforcing skills properly, or being vague about how they enforce judgments on if a character can reasonably doing a thing they're doing. Perhaps that needs to be looked at, if this is the case.

I think it's a pretty good shift. I agree that one or two vamps/lings in a manifest of 20-30 is just not enough. Most of these seem pretty good for minimums; maybe vamp/ling won't be a total snorefest. Will these affect mixed rounds and/or do you have any plans to alter those? Or are they good enough as they are? I support this.

Sick name, cool story, and if anyone can make a Dionaea memorable, it's you. Your characters are very well thought-out, developed, and feel like real people. This is true for both whitelists you already possess, and so I know you can rock this one as well. You care about the lore, and you're very talented at exploring a species while giving all your characters personality, and representing the lore accurately. I know you don't make these apps lightly, and you'll do the trees justice. Your RP is more than solid, and I find myself making mental notes on how to improve my own writing while watching you play. I'm not 100% sure on like the actual early stages of the backstory, but Nein can point out if anything doesn't make sense. Personally I love that Harmony has a sort of family tie in their backstory. That's such a great little detail! +1, absolutely.

I like that. I think that's much better than just saying any Antag can.

sick. +1 maybe also doable by those big boy G2 IPCs too. They're strong.

BYOND Key: Doxxmedearly Character Names: Sikaevi Suhn’Krashzkrikh, Rowan Fortune, Sazya Xichi, Nahjiya Khayaram, Kizikh Guwan, Mehreen Al-Dimashqi, HARPI, full list in sig. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB 55,0,120 (Unbound of Xetl'jyatk) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes + The Hives and History Pages + Talking to P-dox Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: P-Dox won’t stop BUGging me Recent developments. Vaurca have been getting a lot of love, there’s a lot of recent news, and honestly, the devs are pretty passionate about the species. I wrote them off as a totally uninteresting species at first, with long confusing names and tough-to-process lore (Long names, VR stuff, bound and unbound, etc). It didn’t seem like you could play one with personality. But after talking to lore deps and looking into news and paying attention to the vaurca on-station, I see there’s more to them than I initially thought. They’re very alien, and once I managed to piece together the lore, I started liking them. So, I want to try my hand at adding some interesting characters to both expand my knowledge on Vaurca, and get others interested in the species through my RP. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Hooo where to start with this. Well, obvious mechanical differences: breathing phoron, eating k’ois, not healing naturally, etc. Roleplay differences include speaking with a buzz (Yezzir), having an aversion to brighter lights, being more passive in nature (And placing less importance on martial prowess) and adjusting to life outside of VR. That last one is particularly important to Vaurca, and each individual has different means of coping. There are differences between unbound and bound (The former being more individual, the latter being more akin to stationbound units), and vaurca from different broods likely have different views and ideas that affect their day-to-day lives. A vaurca character can expect a good amount of racism from other species, and even animosity from other vaurca, depending on their hive and personal views. As well, Vaurca find doing work for their hive to be pleasurable, which is probably the least human thing I can think of. Character Name:Ka’Akaix’Myrz C’thur Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Myrz, like all unbound, was given six months to develop organically before being fitted with a neural socket, and placed into the realm of VR for her education and development. As one of Xetl’jyatk’s brood, there was also a tremendous focus on sensations. Pleasures. Rapid changes in setting and mood based on the whims of her lesser queen. Myrz grew to find this thrilling. What would change next? What new jokes would Luz perform? What experiments would be performed on the Lii’dra unbound next? Then, there were new sensations. Information and scenes about Skrell began to pour in. Pop culture, language, emotions, and, most interesting to Myrz, achievements. Scientific advances. A different kind of alien curiosity, full of triumphs and setbacks and the feelings associated with each. She became obsessed with these scientific processes. Transitioning out of VR was tough on her, as it was for most. The senses were duller. Things were far less fantastical. There were no grand changes in this reality, no sensations presented by Xetl, fewer surprises, needs to maintain, such as hunger. But… there was now a chance to make discoveries, find new highs, and gift them back to her queen and her hive. She found work among the Skrell scientific community, assisting in labs and offering a new, if not always appreciated, perspective. Still, she was able to contribute a great deal; even if she didn’t find anything groundbreaking on her own, she still participated in several small, interesting advancements. Some of her coworkers noted that her curiosity and upbeat attitude was refreshing, while others cited that her willingness to rush into taking risks clashed with the Skrell’s normally careful and patient approaches. A small scientific exchange program with NanoTrasen was established, some time after the secret of the C’thur’s relation to Jargon was out, leading the immigration of a handful C’thur and Skrell scientists to Tau Ceti. Myrz was happy to volunteer as part of this. A new system, new aliens, new research! This was an excellent opportunity to find new sensations, reach new highs, and gain experiences to bring back to her queen. Taking up residence on the ODIN with her hive-cell, she was assigned to the NSS Aurora for work. While she still is having a rough go adapting to life outside of VR, she’s doing what she can to adjust and seek out similar highs, both at work and in her free time. What do you like about this character? They have an excitable and curious personality, always looking for new experiences to bring back to Xetl’jyatk. She enjoys serving her queen, but also finds these new experiences to be exciting on their own. The result is a naïve individual with boundless curiosity, who will definitely be around station socializing. Even normally negative sensations, such as pain and nervousness, will be viewed with some degree of excitement. Also, her lesser queen is really fun, and I like the idea of her brood seeking new highs and taking risks due to their VR experiences. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Pretty great. Always improving, but I’m getting more confident the more time I spend here. I feel like I have a long way to go compared to some of the players here, but I’ve received enough compliments to say that people enjoy interacting with me. The more I experiment with new jobs and new species, the more I feel myself improving. Notes: –Planned job is to be a lab assistant until I find a job in science that I’m comfortable with and enjoy playing. C'thur don't need avowals. -Please let me know if I messed something up with VR lore, as that’s the part that’s still somewhat confusing to me, though P-dox did a great job explaining it to me.

[Denied] Head of Staff - Veterangary
Doxxmedearly replied to VeteranGary's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm with Amory. It does not have to be an established character, nor is it preferred. It's just an option. I don't think Hujsak meets the requirements for HoS, either. That said, your roleplay is very good, and you're one of the sec players I enjoy seeing around. I think you deserve at least a head of staff trial, but I agree that the timeline doesn't quite fit with the requirements of HoS. +1 from me if another character is used, otherwise neutral. -
Currently, there are a few options for AI appearances at holopads: Default, Carp, Face, and a crewmember. Personally, I think it's kinda weird that to get a humanoid appearance outside of the default, you need to copy a crewmember's look. My suggestion is that the "default" AI hologram option gets changed to the character you make in "character setup." This way you can see more varied AI holograms, and gives AI players the ability to set up an appearance befitting of their AI's personality, without having to copy a crewmember's look and weirding them out. (If this is a thing already that I have missed, I'm sorry, and ignore this). Another idea would be to just give us more options for looks besides "Fish" and "Face," such as stationbound sprites, sprites not using in game (Outside of events or staff of change shenanigans), spiders, monkeys... Basically, I'd like to see more variety in holopad appearances for AIs. I'm not sure how difficult this would be, code-wise, or if it requires entirely new sprites. Thoughts?

Raise Cargo Technician Slots By One
Doxxmedearly replied to Snakebittenn's topic in Completed Projects
Miners tend to take the ore themselves so they can ask for KAs. I see nothing wrong with adding a third slot. -
Agreed. I'll be the first to admit that I really don't like Burger's attitude in OOC, and have been pretty vocal about it. I feel some initial resistance to his ideas based on how dismissive and abrasive he can be and has been, but I have to put that aside and judge the idea for what it is. There's plenty of legit criticisms of his ideas and such, but plenty of flack, insults, and shitposting he gets from other members is incredibly unfair (Really, the heart attack meme stopped being funny months ago, and he has asked people to stop PLENTY of times). People thought the mining dungeons were going to be the end of science getting materials. People thought cKAs were going to make mining impossible. And this probably won't affect people as much as they think it will. I feel like this is definitely the case. I agree that the changes aren't radical and won't be as awful as many are making it out to be. I just view it as unnecessary and I don't think it's really going to add to any immersion or generate much RP. Lots of things in this game are useless mechanically, but used because of RP. Drinks are one of those, and I feel like they should stay as such. My thought is that this will be a nuisance at best; it's unnecessary, even for a HRP environment. That's the feedback I can offer. That said, if and when it is implemented, you won't hear many complaints from me unless it's ridiculous (Which it doesn't seem to be). I admit I enjoy the idea of this curbing how crippling hunger can be to sec and antags, as mentioned. It's still not enough for me to support this, but those are my thoughts.
-
In light of the discussion going on in this thread, I think my stance has changed from "Sure why not" to "I don't think I want to see this feature." Especially the points coalf and shame have raised. I think this is because drinks are already used in RP. People stop at the bar all the time to get drinks. They go there after a tough workday, or to get coffee on early shifts, or because their character just really loves booze (I have a character that loves soda so much it's in her exploitables). I've had people just stop in at the bar for orange juice. The drinks do nothing for them, but they get them anyway. It's RP'd. I've never lacked for interaction as a bartender, and I know this isn't something being done to give this job more interaction, but it is a job that will be affected by it. I don't think it needs it. I don't think thirst is a doom and gloom scenario, or would break the game, but at the same time, I don't feel like it's necessary, or will even go as far to add to RP/Immersion as you think. I think it will be mostly a nuisance. It's another meter to manage, even if managing it isn't difficult. I still believe that removing milk/tea healing and the new hunger gauge are worthwhile changes.
-
*Unathi cheering in the distance* Seems reasonable.
-
I really think "lube" is weird in this context. Coolant or some made up substance along those lines makes more sense and feels less.... jokey? I know it's not a joke, but we're all gutterminded here. It just feels like "lube stations" would be something I'd expect to see on a LRP/MRP server. I don't know. It's weird to me. As far as thirst mechanics in general... sure, why not? Also really support new icons and removing the healing effects from milk and tea. I also want to backup and see answers to Conspiir's questions, particularly points 3 and 4. Racial differences makes sense from a roleplay and lore standpoint.

Making Solars Viable as a Power Source
Doxxmedearly replied to furrycactus's topic in Completed Projects
Awesome. I have no complaints, then. I play engineer a decent amount, but there's a lot I wouldn't know, such as wiring the solars into the main grid. This could give me a chance to learn. You know your stuff. I think this is an excellent idea and really expands the game in a positive way for everyone. Huge +1 -
The bounties themselves are good; asking the crew to make things for them is fantastic, so I disagree with the idea that they should be more rare. But yes, the values should be reworked. Going on the idea that 3cr = $1, that price for a hotdog is absurd. A stack of phoron sheets is worth 5000cr. +1 to tweaking them.
-
If possible, it would be nice to have the sink in the bar moved from the back room to the main area. It's very annoying to have to go in there every time you wipe down a cup to empty the water, or to pour down a mismixed drink.
