Absolute Unfair Ruling - Pratepresidenten, ShesTrying
Cnaym replied to BurgerBB's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Made a couple of small adjustments, but this will be the note on your record. There is nothing really wrong with it from my point of view. If you want to add anything, feel free to do so or let me know if this complaint can be considered handled. -
Absolute Unfair Ruling - Pratepresidenten, ShesTrying
Cnaym replied to BurgerBB's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Think that explains the point rather well. You tried to follow the order in your own way, without getting permission from the malf itself. That is the main thing that went south in this case. If you as malf borg have a better idea you can discuss it with the malf, if they like it they can allow it, else you are still slaved and have to follow their original order. Let's condense it down to the gist of it: Making the story of the round is job of everyone, the gimmik however is for the actual antag to devide. In this case the malf. You are slaved to the antag, that means a) you have to follow their orders and b) can act as bad as they order you to. If you get the order to kill every crewmember and think that it lacks escalation, announce it over the radio and start following the order. The crew will win in this case, you can ahelp the malf for wasting you without good reason, you can ahelp before that and have staff decide if it makes sense to follow that order, but and that's a big but: As long as an ahelp does not tell you otherwise, you have to follow the orders. If you fear that you'd get in trouble for doing so, you can always cryo and make a player complaint. In this case, the part of escalation was for you to do, the order was as clear as it gets. That is an issue I see in the style malf selection is handled, and that the borgs are forced into an antag role. However by staying in round, you agree to playing team antag. There is nothing forcing you to do so and a player moving to cryo to avoid being forced to antag a round which they did not want to antag will not yield staff action against you. I get that it sucks to be a forced antag, however the decision to stay in round and go through with it was alone yours to make. This happens when they discussion is most likely not going to yield anything usefull from that point on. This thread will now serve as a place for further complaints and two other staff members have to handle it. A new staff complaint is exactly the place to take things if you disagree with a prior staff ruling. Onto how the situation was handled itself: The malf was deemed not great, a lot of malfs aren't. The staff members in question also deemed the malf not rule breaking, so they did not see the need for staff to step in and pace a note or warning on them. You as the borg went against the malfs orders, did not discuss the idea with them, but instead forced your own way of doing things. That is not acceptable for a borg. You received a note for doing so. The note itself displays this: You did not intend to do any wrong OOCly, but still failed to follow an order ICly. That is really as harmless as it gets and describes quiet well what happened. Even if you did not mean any evil by it, you still failed to follow proper (slaved) cyborg play. For the future, please go to cryo and file a player complaint. If the ahelp is not handled in a timely manner during round (that is our fault) do not decide to handle it yourself (that is your fault). This was not formulated as a result however, to give you the chance to respond if there is anything you'd like to add. It's just my two cents for now, reformulating a lot of what was said before to condense and maybe better explain the thought process behind it. -

@ParadoxSpace and I will handle this one. It's a long one so please give us a bit of time. -
[ACCEPTED] Niennab's Command Whitelist App
Cnaym replied to niennab's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Had really good interactions with your command character. They didn't meme a single fax yet and been a consistent highlight of lowpop. Knew that the prior +1 would not be in vain. Keep going like that and it should be no problem at all! -
[Accepted] Leudoberct Unathi Application
Cnaym replied to Leudoberct's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Can confirm. Seen nothing but good RP from your other whitelists. Got my full support on this one, too. Good luck! -
You were the guy that got chased by beepsky for the first ten minutes and then cornered by it in an elevator and ahelped. I am not sure how much RP the robot put in, but the escalation was there. I didn't see or handle the later ticket, but I can confirm that beepsky didn't like your character.

A massive esword to slice through doors? Sign me up. Not seeing the combat use so much, except on a light mech with a leap function ^^ but that doesn't really fit the heavy stuff robotics usually builds. I'd love a shield though... Mechs should have frontal protection * 10 so you have to do the magic teamwork thingy to take them down.
-
Is it just me or does this character sound like a self insert... I'd be carefull about that, as people will first make a cyborg that is like they are IRL and then they make themself like they are ICly... this is dangerous levels of bruh

[Accepted] Lolziam | Vaurca Application
Cnaym replied to Lolziam's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Dunno, your CE is kinda cringe.. But then again you can't CE as Vaurca so big +1 from my side. No but honestly, he's good, he's doing the RP, he's not been a shitter with any whitelist so far and his conduct is fine. Think he could do a none cringe vaurca. -

We'll save that for the trial. Give this man waifu bait a trial. Good conduct, clean slate and even motivated. I've seen you do the right thing more than once, even if it was the hard thing to do. That's what counts. -
[ACCEPTED] Dark1Star's Command Application

The amount of times I made you slap yourself makes me feel pointed out here ^^ You improved a ton over your time and I enjoy your characters. You stay in them and act in a believable manner. Haven't had to slap you OOCly recently, which is good. In my books more then ready for command, just be prepared to get bwoinked more, just comes with the whitelist +1 -
This took an ungodly amount of time from my end. IRL stuff and so on. That being said, after reading through the logs and the unclear ranking situation I am leaning toward agreeing with both points here. The escalation and RP was there, the use of lethals was too much. What I would like to see happen next time is to ahelp instead of getting yourself in trouble, escalating to quickly, taking things into your own hands and so on are things you should know better by now. I'll be replacing the ban with a warning and try to annoy a lore person into adding more ranking information to the wiki, since the pilot is not the only new ghost spawner we got for the TCFL now. Considering this one as resolved. Should questions remain from either side, shoot me a DM.

[ACCEPTED] Niennab's Command Whitelist App
Cnaym replied to niennab's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
One of the unsung heroes of lowpop. Consistent good RP, stays out of trouble, focuses on character development and spreading lore. I frequently joke with you in tickets about being unrobust and when asked for a little help I explained that the thing to your right is called a mouse. Good times. In all honesty though, one of the really outstanding community members. Superb conduct OOCly and ICly, I see no reason why you should not have the command whitelist. Clear +1 from my side. You've come far with the mechanics and your roleplay is top notch. -
- Cargo technician, she'll visit courses in biesel to improve her ceti basic and work toward leading her own cargo department / logistics center one day (character is to young for QM / HoP but it makes sense from an IC perspective to strive upwards, given her education and that she has most of her life in front of her). Seeing how cargo is rather low pressure on our server, introducing someone who's not only set on paperwork but after that sweet sweet promotion, a focus on education instead of experience and grateful to NT for giving her the chance it should lead to some interesting conflicts involving other departments and command members. The goal is not to annoy others, but have someone who'll want to keep their job long term instead of not caring about proper procedure. - Growing up in the PRA, she was raised as a mixture between the traditional sharing and working for the greater good and the new influences that NT and the modern education brought with it. Seeing how her dad was just one small wheel in a booming industry made her realize that, as individual she'll have to study and work harder then her peers to make it outside of adhomai. She knows that large political and economical change requires policies and above all time and will praise the PRA for making true on it's promises in recent times, blaming the other two ideologies for stopping the PRA from reaching more achievements. While outright thinking that the old ways taken by the NKA should be buried along those that lead it, she does not blame the uneducated masses for following what in their eyes, is the only chance to survive under their harsh conditions. The DPRA on the other hand is in her mind mortal enemy of the PRA and cannot coexist with it. She grew up learning that the freedom and democratic system they fight for brings nothing but death and suffering and that only a strong government, formed by strong people can enable their culture to strife for a better future. -The recent ceasefire has made her hopeful that her brothers might be able to return home, rather than dying on the battlefield, helping their father and settling into a work place that does not require them to handle weapons daily. On a larger scale she hopes to be successful enough to afford visiting her family and thinks that the ceasefire will make it a lot easier and cheaper to travel to and from adhomai. In her mind the nations now all have to think about working together with forces outside of adhomai to show through economic and political ways which system is the best for the people and in the end will prevail. It's obviously the PRA for her, since they managed to lift up the people even during the hardship of war, which should now be going a lot easier with the ceasefire in place.

Staff complaint reopened. Give me a day or two to do the log dive and ask the lore team to make a comprehensive ranking thing for the wiki.

Helloa. I know this is completed but I would love to take a minute to thank all of you for the ideas and work put into it
-
I will be taking this complaint. Regardless of rank, can we all agree that unloading the gun into team mates is a really bad idea? I feel like this shouldn't be made clear, but soldiers working together for more than the 10 minutes round duration probably would not try to kill each other over insults or handcuffs.

Okay this took a while since the round ID was the wrong one ^^ Let's take a look at how this was handled. You walked into security, bombed the place, got winded. ShesTrying then tried to explain to you that bombing someone who is SSD or AFK or had no interaction with you is poor escalation. So far no problem there. Ticket goes back and forth a little, which should have been stopped sooner since it's basicly a waste of time. Answering the questions politely usually helps us and you get the ticket over with quicker. You get unwinded and walk back to security, get arrested and start using LooC to tell them that they cannot arrest you, which is just wrong. ShesTrying then tells you to use the ahelp function if you have any issues with the arrest and keep it out of LooC. You then proceed to blame her for confusing your entire round, and that it's not your fault for not knowing that security will arrest you if you stroll in there. Keep in mind that this is after you bombed their lobby and the cadet clearly saw you. You then proceed to show a hostile attitude toward the staff member, asking if she enjoys picking on players or if she ever admits that she's wrong. You get informed that the warning for the welderbomb (which you could have just contested in a staff complaint, or ask the staff member in question for another member to handle your ticket) will escalate to a temporary ban if you continue with this behavior, to which you tell her that she botched your round and cannot ban you for feeling that your attitude is against the rules, after which the one day ban got applied. The ban reason itself clearly said that you where not banned for the welder bomb, but for your attitude in LooC, AooC and the ticket itself, with which I have to agree. The two rules in question here being: That being said, I will talk to ShesTrying about asking the person involved in her ticket if they would like another staff member to handle it, if the hostility is clearly shown towards her and another staff member is online and can take over. This might be a good step to get another look on the situation and give the player another chance of explaining their side (i.e. keep an eye out for someone who feels handled wrong, hand over the ticket to another staff member to ensure that the player does not feel like it's a personal issue.) I consider this complaint handled and will close it within 24 hours.

BYOND Key: Cnaym Character Names: Most known currently: Akki Guwan (Officer / Cheff), Emilia Roth (GOOD Nurse), Kim (Librarian), Optikam Rin (Cargo Tech), Spike Barnes (Engineer), Voices of Reason (Assistant, Janitor) Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Beaver Brown Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I like to play somewhat quirky characters, from the feedback I got for characters like Akki, Emilia and Voices, I feel comfortable portraying characters that could keep a job, but not without facing their own troubles. Playing with a more restricted race is something that fascinated me for a long time and I am excited to see how this turns out. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The politics and factions really, every tajara I met so far has an interesting story and a strong personality and opinions on things. I think the restrictions and racism that this species brings with them can make for some really interesting interactions. Been dipping into that a lot with my Guwan character and enjoyed it a ton. I hope to provide a rather traditional character that does not throw their convictions and ideals overboard (or in everyones face), but slowly finds their place in a foreign civilization. Character Name: Masika Al'saharn Please provide a short backstory for this character Masika, born in the winter of 2441 in Nal'Tor, grew up as most Hharar do in the city. She visited the state school, watched her father work long days in the capitols factories, helped her mother out with housekeeping and cooking and watched her two older brothers get drafted into the Grand People's Army. As the youngest of the three children she was sent to the Nal'tor College of Career Excellence by her parents, in order to learn and find a craft that would make sure she was safe from the horrors of the war. That came finally true in the form of a contract with NT, and the permission to work aboard a research station in Tau Ceti. As many young tajara do, Masika boarded the shuttle in hopes of a new life and better future... and to send back money to her family, who had invested so much into getting her the education she needed to work for a megacorporation in human space. She now has a small room in little Adhomai, in an apartment shared with four other young refugees. There is not much that she calls her own, but the journey so far has been good to her and she is hopeful that things will improve over time. She watches the clashes between supporters of the different factions with mixed feelings, seeing how she still considers herself a citizen of the PRA but wonders if the politics of her home will ever stop following her or at least calm down. For herself she found a stronger connection to her faith in an area surrounded by politics and economics. Practicing the worship of S'rand'marr more and involving it into her daily life, partly to have a bit more order, partly because she misses her family. What do you like about this character? A bit of going back to the roots for me, a young character that is not a blank slate but has their own reservations and opinions, while exploring a mostly new world. I am excited to see how this turns out. So far Tajara Lore was this massive wall of text for me that I never got into, but I spend more time reading it than I'm willing to admit and I hope I will enjoy this whitelist and provide a fun character for others aswel. I would like to play this one as a cargo tech, with an emphasis on traditional things like self made food, religion and a tidy workplace. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 9/10 Roleplay above all else. Staying in characters, staying calm, just enjoying the game. That's what matters most to me. LooC and OOC are for the memes. Notes: Ask away, give feedback or suggestions. We are all here to have fun and improve.

Highpop round starts with three changelings. At least one of them will be the same as usual. Lowpop starts with 1 or 2 and has more often than not an involved story with a lot more horror simply because there is no "armblade dude" running around the holodeck in the background. I'm not for removing it, but taking it out of secret would be okay for me, or make it only happen on lower pop with a lower number of antags (2 maybe like ninja?). Maybe have it only in secret in the Vampire combination, giving both antags a chance to "fake" the other ones effects. I.e. Poison or DNA sting sapping out a bit of blood and so on... usually makes for an interesting interaction in which the station becomes the playground for different factions instead of "Sec against Antag"
-
Alb did pretty much that. Voting against the removal. I will try to formulate this as polite as I can, but may fail due to the uh... sentence structure and language barrier: The roundtype malf depends on a lot of factors. AI / Malf knowledge and creativity. Gimmik perception and reaction to it. The number and skill level of borgs and IPCs. The number of players and sometimes even the staff online. The malf rounds usually die with the playerbase deciding to cryo at the first malf sign or ignoring the gimmik altogether. Strong recent example here would be "oh earth has blown up, buhu, nobody cares". The malf almost never wins. Greentext < Salt in OOC after the round. A huge step to increase the enjoyment generated by malf would be to increase the playerbases involvment during the round. Fake PDA messages to lure people somewhere, give the AI a voicechanger, we had a round where the malf had an admin as Ninja stalk the tunnels working like an advanced hologram that could just flash folks. Maybe giving the stationbounds and hacked IPCs access to AooC since that could be used to coordinate and talk about the gimmik. I would also propose a warning message when enabling malf: Something like "This gamemode super hard, staff will make use of blacklist if you fuck this up, please play borg and AI a lot before jumping into this." couple with use of said blacklist (giving a bad malf a week off would not even be enough imho. AI needs a ton of playtime until someone is able to handle it as malf.)

Sounds good, doesn't work. Even if you set up inflatables in front of a door 80% of crew are unable to use them. Scratch that. Good idea, might teach people how to use them. I'm all for it, since everyone with EVA access can grab some and engineers get a shitton of them anyway. I like this idea, though it may give antags easier access to them, which in turn means they can sneak into the vault easier. A price I'd be willing to pay tbh ^^
