Instant kills are awful in general; I support removing or nerfing this.

I really like Traumas, instead of being removed I'm supporting the notion of removing the most debilitating and leaving them in.

Wowzewow's spriter application
Chada1 replied to wowzewow's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I Love Wezzys spritework, and I want to see more in the game. I wholeheartedly support this app. -
I'm sure the Skrell still despise it irregardless of being self-modifying or not, infact they probably are inclined to hate anything that attempts to bridge the gap between organic and synthetic as a generality, outliers not-withstanding. I kinda like Autakh but I'm worried about how they'll be roleplayed. I'll bite my tongue until I see them in action, however.

I believe this has been implemented on the Lore front, as of this link. However, there are still some minor fluff code additions that would make it more compelling as already laid out, but if those aren't going to be done, this thread has served its purpose and can be archived.

Would it be possible to have Cadets auto assigned to a random department on joining the round? Especially ones with Officers present?
-
The Detective could share the brig area with the Wardens IMO. His office could be there, I mean. Would be neat, I really like this idea and I think it'll work well with the Lore direction ATM. The Warden/s and Detective/CSI could have the old Security headsets too. So in effect, there'd still be a staffed brig but all of the officers would be spread among the Stations' departments. If you wanted to take this further, you could also put the 'Corporate Reporter' spawnpoint in the Brig and allow him to work with Security, but keep the Freelance Journalist with no access to it.

I'll take 3rd fpunniest Auroran.

there's not much to say other than that Kyres is as of now a very accomplished spriter and I'd love to see them accepted onto the dev team.

Small bump to inform that feedback is still appreciated, and that this suggestion is not dead, on the contrary it's only gone to the next level. So if anyone has any reservations or concerns, they should express them. Everything Doc said is correct; The Aurora will be a service hub and doesn't require that status to be visited. Upsilon will not be outfitted with the necessary facilities to host these events while the Aurora will be. Not only that, but Sleepy was correct as well, in the event of a political visit, they could have simply visited the Upsilon first and then went for the Aurora.

This change is to liver for. +1. We need more organ dynamics.
-
I'm very much onboard with this, but I'd appreciate it if we had some Lore integration and all of that before it goes live.
-
Looks good to me, character motivations fit well into the setting and give an air of progression. My only concern would be the Beaker. I think it would probably be better as a container that holds four 10u beakers as opposed to a single beaker itself.

It would be great to have just a random 'Neighborly' greeting from Upsilon to fan the flames. I hope Upsilon deserves that fuck you. In what I've outlined, the Aurora would still be very relevant, just not #1 in everything. It's still the premier mining Station for Phoron, and it still does general research. It'd just also act as a Service Hub, (Which explains all of the Civilian, communal jobs that people constantly call senseless for a #1 research station that we have, as well as why so many people visit, it wouldn't be fitting for them to visit the Upsilon) and without the Aurora, Upsilon wouldn't be able to maintain its' research output, so... Still pretty relevant. You could consider the Aurora akin to field research while the Upsilon is the big advanced lab. The Aurora gathers materials, does a peripheral analysis and then after they're done with it, it's shipped to the Upsilon. This also links pretty well into stuff like Xenoarcheology, now we know where those ancient relics of ages long past would go. Doesn't mean the Aurora doesn't want to reclaim its' position as the more prestigious of the two Stations when it comes to research, that element is necessary for the dynamic to work, and I imagine its main goal would be to discover the ins and outs of their finds before it got shipped off, to do just that.

So, over my time on the Aurora and being engaged in the Servers Lore, I noticed something felt missing, and alongside others arguing that it wasn't believable for so many envoys to board the Aurora, because it's the '#1 Research Station' and a high security one at that, I came to the conclusion that it could be very possible-- feasible even, to expand interstation relations even further in the form of another Station that has usurped the Auroras' spot as the #1 research station, relegating it instead to the #2 research station, focusing on lesser Phoron research and Mining, as well as PR. And thus, a rivalry between the two Stations could ensue. I think this is something that would very much inject some needed atmosphere into the corporate framework of NanoTrasen, to hold the Lore a bit more until the Next Big Thing arrives, and it would require negligible work on the part of the coding team. Mostly, the work would be on the Lore team. So, here are ways to make this happen, an unveil of the new Station which is slated to be intended to be twice as efficient as the Aurora, with higher initial funding, (As the Aurora was carved in an Asteroid, it was cost-efficient, not efficient) and then a bunch of random low-intensity events could be added where the rival Station sends mocking messages to the Aurora or a CCIA event could fire praising the Upsilons achievements. This would explain why the Aurora is trying so hard to overachieve all the time, as they'd be trying to usurp the Upsilon as the most efficient, even while having less funding. So, here's a checklist of things that could be implemented. 1: New random minor event praising the Upsilons' advances in Phoron Research 2: Rephrase the ERT being unavailable to something more Upsilon centric such as "The Emergency Response team is currently unavailable running drills in range of the NSS Upsilon, they're unable to respond for XX hours.", or in the case of the militia, that could be why the militia is being sent. 3: Rephrase of the Icarus' messages, when the Icarus is unavailable such as in Raider/Merc modes, it could instead mention protecting the Upsilon from Asteroid impact, since it's not carved out of an Asteroid like the Aurora is. 4: Cargo resource shipments could officially be sent to the Upsilon as opposed to the Odin, to facilitate extra research there. Upsilon would then transfer funds to the Cargo account. This should lead to a very light mocking Fax from Upsilon at multiple Head offices, this gives incentive for the Aurora to try to be independent instead of depending on shipments to maintain credit reserves. This fax should only happen once a round. The Aurora could begin specializing in Service and Mining as well as production instead of being the '#1 Research Station', effectively becoming '#2 Research Station' and an Auxiliary to the Upsilon due to Uppermanagement ambition. The Aurora Management however will have plenty of incentive to attempt to usurp the Upsilon and return the Aurora to its former position as '#1'. This however explains why so many delegates and political visits happen on the Aurora, and why the Aurora attempts to impress so much. The Aurora effectively becomes the Auxiliary Hub of Tau Ceti, supporting the Odin in PR and the Upsilon in resources, while the Odin is the main Hub of Service and Bureaucracy, and the Upsilon is the main Hub of Research. For this to work, the Station must be given very good reason or multiple reasons to seriously dislike the new usurper Upsilon, but I think this would fill a lot of holes in the Lore ATM as well as be a breath of fresh air in content. the name of the new Station doesn't need to be Upsilon, it can be anything. And this is a very minimal and not impossible concept to implement, and I feel like it'd add to the corporate feel much more. That is all, comments and suggestions to expand the concept are appreciated.

You did a lot of really *Really* good work from my perspective. I was supporting you from the start and I still do, I'm glad you're sticking around in some capacity which is my main solace, if it's too much, it's too much, same thing I told Ally when they were leaving for College. I get it, it's what you have to do. But, still, I'm very glad you're sticking around.

If this is done please have them use mechcode and fix mechs. Otherwise, I approve

[Accepted] Skrellian Buddhism!
Chada1 replied to Chada1's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
Alright, the main goal was to give you some inspiration on Skrellian telepathy elements in their belief systems, so I guess I was successful! This can be archived then. -
With Buddhisms' tendency of syncretising with other religions and Skrells' recent mental abilities and emphasis on meditation, I just couldn't help myself with this one. I think it's really cool and while I know it's really insignificant in scope, I think it utilizes a lot of neat elements of the Lore and I hope you guys can find something to do with it. Or at least find some inspiration from it. If nothing else, I seriously suggest some of these elements are applied to Qeblak with the new telepathy additions. Qeblak-Buddhism Overview The Qeblak-Buddhist tradition is analogous of the Human Tao Buddhism, if one were to replace the Natural order of the Universe with that of the Stars themselves. Originating years after contact with Humanity, it has found itself spreading slowly within many Frontier systems almost solely among Skrell, where practitioners of other Buddhist traditions are present. With the Skrellian reliance on Meditation to guard their memories, and their fondness of Human culture, it seems a given it would be appealing to many Skrell in these regions. Many concepts such as the Noble Eightfold Path are still respected. Membership The Membership of Qeblak-Buddhism is composed largely of the poorer Skrell of the Frontier colonies where Buddhism is present, though it has a noteable popularity among Skrellian Xenoarcheologists who research in Humanity outside of that. They are known for refusing Monastic membership to any non-Skrell, though they maintain good relations with other Buddhist traditions. This has lead to many accusations of Speciesism, but it's largely a result of their Meditation in Unison practice, and the danger that entails for non-Skrell. They still allow non-Skrell to practice as Laymen, but entry into Monastic service is strictly forbidden. The number of non-Skrell practitioners is abysmally low for this reason, as they usually subscribe to a different tradition. Noteable Practices Qeblak-Buddhist temples are noteably geared towards aiding poor Skrell immigrants within their systems to fortify 'The Stronghold of The Mind', which is a euphemism for guarding their thoughts as they sleep. They're also well known for meditating in unison -- by linking their minds, an act of great concentration. This act is controversal in some Skrellian circles, as it can cause significant migraines in the participants if they lose concentration. However despite the controversy and dangers, it still finds practice in the Frontier. This is one reason that Monks are hesitant to ever allow non-Skrell into Monastic practice. Some Qeblak-Buddhist monasteries and temples also train in Skrellian Martial Arts, though this is not universal by any means and is more common closest to the beating heart of Skrellian territory, where few Qeblak-Buddhists can be found. Origin The origin of Qeblak-Buddhism is very nebulous, (Pun intended) Though it's able to be traced to Skrellian immigration to the Frontier, with the most significant Monastery being within Yinglishen itself, 'Jreshni'gyalt Qrui Monastery'. Named after Jreshni'gyalt Qrui, the first official and only Skrellian Buddha. For this reason, the tradition is believed to have been founded within Yinglishen.

As of this moment, all of this has been addressed. The problem was, there actually weren't any requirements for them, we expected people to just pop in as any of the learner roles and make sense of it. Directions of how to make sense of it better are now available. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Scientist#Lab_Assistant https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Security_Officer#Security_Cadet https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Station_Engineer#Engineering_Apprentice https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Medical_Resident#Medical_intern IAmCrystalClear If there's nothing else, I presume this can be closed?

I absolutely love this. Though I think it would be better to have a specific radio channel statically pick them up. It could function as an actual Dionae 'Music' channel! That's something no Species has and entirely fits the Dionae. It would also allow antag shenanigans, whereas Vaurca/Bound Synths can't be infiltrated (Outside of Bound Synths), putting a universal recorder beside an intercomm attuned to this channel could get all Dionae speech.

The justification makes a lot of sense to me. I kinda wish it went a little more into the background than the rationalization, but other than that +1, Capesh is well known for their ORB character and handled the sprite fine, and I have faith they'll handle this sprite fine and use it to foster roleplay as well.

Happy new, not so spooky Dev cycle. PAGES TO BE UPDATED (Note, Green is lower priority, Blue is medium priority, Red is high priority. A star means it is new to this edit of the list.) Minor Food guide update: * (Assigned to Chada1) Getting Started page: * (Assigned to Burrito Justice.) Hydroponics Guide: (Unassigned, this guide was stated by a community member to be out of date.) Guide to Modular Weapons (R&D): (Unassigned, this guide was requested by a community member.) Medical: (Current additions assigned to Burrito Justice. However, this just notes that they're reviewing and correcting/altering guides. Feel free to chip in where you see incorrect information.) An update to the Improvised Weapons page: (In a recent dev cycle, improvised armor was added into the game, this should be added to the Improvised Weapons page alongside any other weapons. Still important.) Other Antags: * (There are still many guides to Antags that need to be updated especially following the dev cycle to come, noteably Changeling, Wizard, Ninja and Cult. As an Addendum, Malf AI has the highest priority.) Mining changes: (With the recent implementation of custom kinetic accelerators, some additions and changes to the Guide to Mining will be necessary, or at the least a guide to KAs) PAGES TO BE REVIEWED (Note, Green is lower priority, Blue is medium priority, Red is high priority. A star means it is new to this edit of the list. These priorities are only set to encourage review and have no bearing on guide quality) Mental, Medical, Disabilities and Chemistry changes, including Asthma: * (Updated onto multiple guides by Burrito Justice)Community input will never stop being important, let me know if you find any problems with this list. Feedback helps me improve it. Be sure to message me if I forgot anything in this list.

That's a valid response, and I've noticed that in the past as well. The player perception is probably the second most rough. Alrighty then. I agree with this too. Character freedom for IPCs is only beaten out by humans. I do dislike that many parts of the Synthetic Lore have been left behind or made irrelevant by other newer additions. Ideally FMPOV they'd be linked in some way to create a canonical coherence instead of two different versions of the Lore in a vacuum. Do you have plans to fix this if allowed to? If so, that sounds amazing. Sounds good. Alright, then all of my questions have been answered. Thank you for replying.
