[Accepted] Aboshehab/Sharp Dionae Whitelist application
Chada1 replied to Faris's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
That I can see, there's nothing that I dislike about this app, the concept of a Dionae being grown on some Frontier farm planet facing economical problems, seems incredibly plausible. I especially liked that Abosh mentioned the other Nymphs that would make up the Dionae, instead of leaving it as a single one that magically grew to 5 (Admittedly, you can do that ingame, though.) which gives the Dionae a more solid origin. If I have any criticism, it would be what has already been said, you can't really learn much about the Nymphs' personalities with this backstory. That said, I would trust Abosh to not make an unrealistic Dionae personality that wouldn't fit ingame. So, i'll +1. Also, your knowledge of their biology is more than enough to play one AFAIK, so long as you understand that they are mostly individual under the Law, IIRC, and not individual in the actual sense, as a Gestalt. If i'm wrong about that, correct me tho. -
May be a bit of a pet peeve. individually, they look amazing as a replacement for the old blastdoors, but when grouped together in places like the SM Engine Core where they surround it, it looks incredibly unpolished and out of place. Note; I DO like them when occupying a single tile, but when used in multiples, they look very bad. If this is just me, i'll deal with it. If it's not just me, well. Maybe we can get an alteration that makes it look better. The only idea I have is to turn them upside down and have them clamp in the middle instead of by the side and in the center. Similar to this, note, this is photoshopped, it is not actually ingame. I think this would look better than the current implementation. Opinions welcome. Also, I know the last part looks off, but that's a result of my crappy photoshop skills. If the sprite is flipped and the animation matches up, it would be fine, I think.

Ckey/BYOND Username: Chada1 Position Being Applied For (coder, mapper, spriter): Wiki Maintainer Past Experiences/Knowledge: I have a lot of experience writing, no professional experience. But lots of writing experience, through my past hobbies up to this point, varying from pure text roleplay forums, text roleplay in general, alongside pure text D&D games as a player and DM. My weakpoint would be writing mechanical guides and BBcode or just wiki formatting, I'm willing to learn to do both. Examples of Past Work: I used my bad Dionae app as reference so I could use my good Skrell app as reference. Had to use both to use either. The Puush I showed is an example of the methods I used to create the storyline of the D&D games when I was DMing, but most of the work has been lost to time. Preferred Mode of Communication (Skype, Steam, etc.): Discord or Steam, I use both commonly. Additional Comments: What lead me to apply was actually helping one of the Lore developers fix up one of the older wikipages, which had tons and tons of typos. I realised it would be so much easier and less hassle for them, if I could just get permission from the specific Devs of the page and fix the typos myself, instead of relaying every little letter change to them. (Yes, I know I would be limited on what I could change without permission, and I don't plan to change or touch anything without it) And so i'm applying for it now. Yes, i'm aware i'm applying to be part of a team, and i'm okay with being delegated tasks ontop of fixing the many typos.

There's only a few humanoid cyborgs, and it's just flipping the sprite that's already there...no extra spriting. You also cannot make them wear clothes, which helps the spriter to an extent. What bothers me, however, is that a cyborg can send PMs without a power cell in its body to begin with. How can it send messages without any power to operate? It's because not everything in the Cyborg is disabled. Some of the internal circuits have their own power supplies. It's not a farfetched concept. These are autonomous machines in the blackness of space. It would seem like a design oversight if they didn't have the bare minimum for locating them if they were lost in Space and ran out of power. I'd say the AIPM messager simply has its own minor battery. EZ. But, I will maintain my stance that I wouldn't want to lose any sprites for this. That said, if someone wanted to set some new death states for the few Sprites, SURE? Not really any reason for me to be against that.
-
The main issue with this, is that not all of the Cyborg Sprites are humanoid. You'd have to sprite a different death state for every single sprite, and IDK about you, but as a Cyborg player, I wouldn't want to lose any Sprites for this concept, the subtle cue of their eyes and powerpoints turning off is good enough, IMO. You can use AIPM to get peoples attention to rescue you, you don't need it to be completely obvious that you're disabled. But this does remind me of another idea that I had, that did the same thing, but I don't know if that would go in its own thread or not. Furthermore, many of the Cyborgs do have treads/wheels and float. You could reduce the amount of work of this if you just sprited laying down for the humanoid ones, but again, it's a lot of work for relatively little pay-off, and the current features are just fine...

[Withdrawn] Developer Applocation: Pacmandevil
Chada1 replied to Pacmandevil's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I came here expecting to download Apps for my smartphone, since it was labeled applocation, but apparently Pacmandevil never coded any for this thread. I'm very disappointed. What even is the point of this Applocation without Apps? Is it just incase you decide to code some? No but seriously, Pacman has shown that he has the ability to code. I just can't be completely sure how well he'll cope with having a deadline and assigned tasks to complete regularly. I really do see them in the #Code_Dungeon all the time, so they don't seem like a gamble to give a shot, from my point of view. I support, for what it's worth. -
The suspense is killing me.

he's ok.

Rest in peace, Farcry11, it's almost like I never knew you. Edit: Wait, wasn't it Hackie Mhan? RIP Hackie Mhan.

[Approved]AttyZ's Diona race application.
Chada1 replied to AttyZ's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I haven't played with you yet, but I do like this application. I think like all of the questions are hard to get wrong, but I feel you aced them. I'll focus on the stuff that I can actually speak on, though, your background story. Most of it seems solid, and the lack of a specific date for this story, makes it more easy to fit into the Lore. But I did notice you phrase joining with other Nymphs a little oddly, it's far from consuming them persay, it's more like they're just joining together and exchanging information between themselves. Nymphs only 'Consume' dead Nymphs in a literal sense. Just clearing up that incase it was a misconception, but it could've easily just been a very creative choice of phrasing. I really like the effort you went into to tell a story, and how you didn't focus only on your character, probably not the best choice for a character background, but it was entertaining. And i'd say you did succeed in telling a decent story in it. I'm unsure what profession they'll have from the background, but do be careful about balancing out their skillset, though they may know more than usual, they still have limits. (This is also me lowkey asking what you plan to play them as, or if you're still deciding) I noticed two typos in the background. A typo near the start. 'The the properties', second sentence, first paragraph. The very last sentence, "thier". Though, these have nothing to do with what I think, just meaning to help you refine the app a little more. I +1 this, hope to see Nova's Gestalt shambling around the Station, in the future. -
Dionae factually do have eyes. Those green spots all over their bodies are their eyes. They have one eye per Nymph, no single spot. Dionae can't wear Blinders and other eyewear because they factually would do nothing. Any form of blindness would still blind the rest of the Dionae viewing it even if the head-Nymph was shielded. And any vision through goggles would be useless for the other Nymphs guiding the Dionae, because they lack the ability to see through a singular means, which Ornias addressed. As it stands, the 'Blindness' from being flashed is a balancing mechanics, as far as I know. That said, I wouldn't like a Dionae buff, they are strong enough as it is, and their main weakness is being flashable and slow. Remember from a Lore perspective they are not one entity, they are multiple. This suggestion makes no logical sense with their in-lore and even in-game biology. For ref, straight from the wiki. Notice the mention of a non-descript 'Optical Organ', which i'd wager is the light-green bulbous spot on the top of the Nymph.

[Resolved] Player Complaint SleepyWolf
Chada1 replied to Gollee's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I don't know if i'm supposed to post here or not, but I feel like this is something that needs to be said, if it is true. The Revolutionaries are not the main Antagonist. The Loyalists are as much of an Antagonist as the Revolutionaries are, it was made this way to actually encourage people to join the Revolution. The Loyalists aren't forced to be 'Loyal' to NT. The Revs could just be Revolting against the Loyalists taking over the Station, in the interests of NanoTrasen... it can literally go either way. It's like saying a Ninja is forced to roleplay as a Ninja or a Wizard is forced to roleplay as a Wizard, which is not true. In my time of playing i've seen Loyalists set up mass executions and not get in trouble, the key is following the Antag rules, isn't it? So that should be what you single the player out for, not if they were breaching Loyalty to NanoTrasen, because they had that covered when they became a Loyalist, which can be more than just a faction Loyal to NanoTrasen. If I was in the wrong for posting that, which i'm not sure about, just delete it, and i'll avoid doing anything like this again in the future. -
I basically only chimed in to say how much I love that idea. Also, Beepsky is pretty underwhelming, but i've gotten a lot of use out of it as a Cyborg, using it to act as a patrol partner. It helps prevent stuff like being flashed among other things. Overall, I really do think Beepsky and some of the bots in general are underwhelming, not just Beepsky.

Doesn't sound like Zhilin, Zhilin is illiterate but from what i've seen is a very responsible worker.

[Resolved] Player Complaint on Superiorform
Chada1 replied to Prospekt's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
You know, you wave that 'Superiorform' isn't following regulations a lot, even though from the looks of it, from the very beginning you've already broken multiple regulations. You do realise there's a regulation specifically regarding not following a Head of Staffs orders, right? When you refused to settle down and meet with the CAPTAIN in his Office on request, you had already broken a regulation worth 5 minutes in the brig (i111). When you refused what he said to do the second time, you had broken a regulation worth 15 minutes in the brig plus possible demotion (Repeat i111). When you refused to give up the shotgun, you violated another i111, which resulted in the Captain firing on you. You may have even been guilty of a i211 from what i'm reading, which is Sedition, the lesser form of Mutiny. Or, by causing the only reasonable alternative to fire on you, you could've been guilty of the worst form of Disobedience, Failure to Execute an Order with Serious Consequences, (i201) which is very similar to i111 except you can be demoted on the first offense. If this is an 'IC issue', it's a very strange one, because if this was Canon and IR'd I imagine you'd have been fired on the spot, and it's Antag related, so it can't be IR'd. The Captain has a Loyalty Implant, it means they do what is in the interests of NanoTrasen, let me ask you... how was allowing an IPC (Or Human for comparison) to run around the Station with a Shotgun, a Revolver, all the while they're openly breaking regulations, disobeying Staff, and being seditious, in the benefit of NanoTrasen at all? The Captain doesn't *Have* to follow regulations in abnormal circumstances, that isn't what their LI does, they just can't willfully break them for no reason like the HoP/Other heads can. You gave them plenty of reason to 'Break regulations', and yet they didn't, you did. So you know, if what you did was done by a Human it wouldn't be acceptable, not as a non-Antag (Without buildup, but it had some in this case). It would've lead to the same place, you being arrested however you could be. And IPCs aren't just dumped on the Station, not in the vitriolic state yours seems to be in, just saying. They are screened, no pun intended, but since yours seems to have been 'Stressed' out, that accounts for it. Still doesn't put the Captain who was reacting to your IPC at fault. Cake would have to say if how your IPC is acting is reasonable or not, I won't. Anyway, that's all. You have a weird idea of how Loyalty Implants work. -
There isn't any problem with randomisation between 0-2 in that case, but the 'Problem' with lowpop is the problem Mixed Secret has already been facing, the fact that most of the modes are completely unplayable at certain times of the day, which results in like 3/4 back to back forced Extended rounds. After re-reading the OP I understand now. Backed by your post. Yeah, It would be fine, the 'System' I was talking about is already being suggested in the OP and I just didn't realise. I must have accidentally read over it, which made my entire previous argument invalid. Welp. Still in support, more than ever. EDIT: Or maybe it was sneakily edited in judging from the lower post. No clue. Doesn't matter, all that matters is that the system should actually solve the problem!
-
Well, I meant with my suggestion on it 'Removing extended'. Yours it doesn't, but yours will probably have issues for lower pop time periods. That's what I was trying to address. At the moment, you may have to re-roll like 8+ times and go through multiple 'Gamemode' votes to get into one round of this if you're not in prime hour 40+ players. I like the idea alot, but that's already a problem with current Mixed Secret, and the main reason it lands on Extended so much, it rolls a mode it can't do then defaults to Extended IIRC. The true unpredictability is something you'd lose to fix this problem. Remember, if there aren't enough players to play the Antags it will force you back to the Lobby and this doesn't seem like it can default to other modes in the absence of enough players. How would you address this? I don't want to lose Extended but i'm clueless on how to fix this without setting point limits by population count.
-
I love this. the point system is amazing IMO, but my suggestion is simple; I'd suggest you scale the points depending on the player count, from 1-50, 1-10 giving 1 point, 10-20 giving 2 points, 20-30 giving 3 points, and so on. This will make dead hour rounds playable. At the moment, without a limiter like that, and with 5 point as a literal definite, IDK if this would be playable without like 8 rerolls under 20 players. If you did it this way, you may not even need extended unless in the absence of any players whatsoever. Maybe that's not a good thing, though, since it'd remove Extended completely. Any ideas on how to make room for Dead Hour and not remove Extended are welcome.

[Resolved] Unfair Strike - Alberyk
Chada1 replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I was there for this, I do think it was an accident on Alberyks part that he really shouldn't be held accountable for, it was an easy mistake to make, and one he hopefully won't make again under the same circumstances, as for that, it was also out of Hives control, so it would suck to keep this strike. But, I understand it's being removed, so that's all fair and good. -
Oh yes, I've played the crap out of this one with one of my old friends. I really liked making Water and Human transport industries. If I had any complaint it's that the settlement system is very lacking, you don't get much benefit for investing in specific areas.

I use EP solely for one of my characters, and Paramedic wouldn't fit for them. Maybe EMT would. They are trained in Trauma Surgery which is the bare basics of Surgery, bone fractures, and splinting, but they don't do these things unless they are the only qualified personnel. That comes down to what an EP actually is. An EP is an EMT who doesn't go out and retrieve people. That is a Paramedics job, that is a baseline EMTs job. An EP is there to make sure that patients don't slip through the seams and to work together with Paramedics to make it so that they don't have to watch over delivered patients. They prepare treatment that's called over radio for the Paramedic as they're retrieving patients, while a Nurse can do that, the EP would hand over patients to the Nurse, and treat those who noone else can tend to. They are an inhouse EMT. I was confused at first, too, until I actually looked up what an EP actually is. It depends the region on that interpretation, but from that I can tell, in many countries it is a real thing, it's a form of EMS (Emergency Medical Service) that works within a Clinic/Hospital setting alongside Paramedics and stabilises/oversees arrived patients until they can be transfered to the professionals. That is how I play it, and it's fun as sin, to me. And i'd really hate to see it gone. Basically, i'm saying, it may have originated as the EMT alt-title, but now it's taken on a new meaning, and it does fit if you know how it's used IRL. It can range from an Anaesthesiologist to an EMT trained for Chronic care of patients and Trauma Surgery. Emergency Medicine is a subject you can become a Doctor in, and those people would be known as an 'Emergency Physician', or just 'Physician', and not a Doctor, oddly enough. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_medicine <= More info there. Past that wall of text, I really like the idea of Physicians Assistant, it seems useful, though i'd put it as an Alt-title for Doctor or something. I think we may already be getting an Alt-title for 'Medical Intern' vs 'Nursing Intern' so that will be in check already. If we take 'Emergency Physician' to not only mean ER Room-EMTs but also regular Doctorate Physicians, Physicians Assistant could make sense as an Alt-title for Nursing Intern. All I can say really on that, though, since Physician Assistants are highly trained, way more than a 'Nursing Intern' or an 'Intern' in general.

[Approved]NodNodNod's Dionaea Application
Chada1 replied to nodnodnod's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
That makes sense, actually. I must've forgot about that, if the Nymphs aren't new sprouts and were part of the Minoris shell, they could already have Engineering knowledge. Interesting writing. Alright, that answered my question, thank you. Also, I don't play either of those anymore, but I did enjoy Gmod for a little while, I avoided RP Hubs on Moonguard and tried to do freeform RP out in the wilderness, it worked out alright, but I got bored of WoW after awhile. That was a looong time ago though. GL with the App! -
[Approved]NodNodNod's Dionaea Application
Chada1 replied to nodnodnod's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I saw you for the first time just awhile ago, but I've gotta say, this application is pretty solid. I'm especially a fan of your background story, Nymph Stowaways would be a ... surprising turn of events for that Cargo Crew. But, one thing I am confused about, where did Rapid Descents' Nymphs learn to be an Engineer? it's a minor hole here but i'm curious about that. I imagine if they enlisted with NT, NT would be willing to give them blood or genetic material, it's not farfetched at all, but I figured i'd ask directly too, since it wasn't stated anywhere. Other than that question, I don't really know what else to say, like I said, it's a solid Application from my point of view, there's really nothing that stands out as bad, I like it. +1. Also, to answer your question, Dionae do not feel pain in a traditional sense, but they do have a sense of self-preservation. OH BOY. A fellow Old Moonguardian. And a fellow Old Gmod Serious RPer. That's Cool. -
This depends solely on what country you're talking about. You seem to be talking about the USA, so i'll concede you are Very right about the procedures, but i'm going to point out that the Aurora is more like a workplace, and less like a country. Security in the USA can't do anything CLOSE to what you're talking about, or that you can do on the Aurora. Security isn't a Police force, even if they are equipped similarly. They are Security officers. What makes sense for public safety doesn't always make sense in a Corporate workplace. That is why you are wrong about this. It even says this in the rules, it specifically says your goal as Security is to defend Corporate property, not to arrest the Antagonist. This was just used as an example, though. "For example, as security, during a traitor round, your goal is not to catch traitors, but ensure the safety of the station and provide assistance as needed." Not much proof, but it does weight it in the direction i'm speaking of. Deadhour Sec in general usually has problems. I once had a Security Officer (I was a Cadet) who didn't know how to charge people with the Computer. I can't really blame him, except that he was an Officer. It's just people trying out Security in a less stressful environment, I guess.

it absolutely wouldn't work fine. The IAA slot spawns with a Loyalty implant. If your Lawyer (Who is representing you personally) has a Loyalty implant, you're kinda screwed. I don't think this idea will work well, due to the setting. Things would have to change heavily to allow Lawyers to actually have any impact. IAAs can actually represent people, but not in the same way a Lawyer would. if the regulations are actually being broken, IE: Being left in processing for an extreme amount of time, they can call Security out on that. You need to remember, they are detaining a Crewmember, that Crewmember has a job on the Station. Security would be reducing Station effectiveness, among other things, by ignoring regulation and protocols to keep the Crewmember detained. I may make a thread in the future when New News is around to maybe add a slot for Detective, Journalist, and maybe a role like Lawyer? IDK, it could happen. but that's a different suggestion entirely.
