niennab Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 As the title suggests, I wanted to put forward the idea of having two Bartender slots instead of one. I've had a few rounds where I've played my Bartender with an assistant in the form of another Bartender character or an assistant only character and I've yet to run into any issue. The reasons for my suggestion being: I find that when every bar stool has someone sitting in it, the roleplay becomes increasingly overwhelming and it becomes difficult to balance the conversations. I sometimes find it tough to come around to the other side of the bar in order to serve those seated at the tables when I have a half full (or more) bar. With two bartenders, one player could reasonably serve as a waiter if we have more people use the tables. This could potentially, I hope, encourage people to sit at the tables more as well. The two Bartenders could also roleplay with each other on otherwise quiet rounds.
goolie Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) there's two states to the bar. massively over-packed or completely empty and you either get overwhelmed from all the people asking for fancy drinks or you get left there standing in the middle of the bar doing shit all. i think if you added another slot, just like how the chefs have two slots, it fixes a lot of the issues that arise when you're trying to rp as a bartender. it relieves some of the work when the drunkards come and invade the bar and it gives you someone to chat to on those rounds with nobody in it. i'm definitely for the idea!!!!! +1 Edited November 3, 2019 by goolie adding the obligatory +1
KingOfThePing Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) The actual bar counter is too small to fit another bartender in there, without standing on each other's feet all the time. There's also not enough room to fit in two sets of equipment for each slot (Booze-O-Mat, Coffee Machine, etc) without re-modeling the counter, which is a topic for another day. Service jobs can be stressful, why should that be toned down? Definite -1 from me, it's unnessecary. Edited November 3, 2019 by KingOfThePing

The bar is the largest open space on the map. Surely it can be remapped to accommodate 2 bartenders

I haven't found this to be the case and I think it should be noted this isn't what is being proposed. Bartenders tend to stand in front of the patrons they're talking to, which means the line of space above them is free. I also dont think we would need two sets of everything. The additional role can be made without any changes to the bar. If two drink orders were proposed at the same time, which may have only been once in all of my time having an assistant at the bar, I just waited for the space to clear. Seeli Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 +1 this. There are already two chef slots and bar gets way more patronage on average than kitchen. Plus, the rp when there are no patrons could also be way better with two bartenders.
Doxxmedearly Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Honestly we could VERY easily map the bar to be better and accommodate more space for two bartenders. It's an incredibly popular role. You can also have a bartender and a barista working together at the same time. You wouldn't need to double up anything more than like, a shaker, and the closet for clothes in the backroom. Very cool idea, +1.
Forktress Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Love this idea, Bartender gets a lot of traffic as a role
wowzewow Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 How about we just give chef and bartender access to each other's spaces? You can change uniforms on the fly, and don't have to step on each other's toes as much since you've got twice the department to go around.

wowzewow Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Well then, let's just encourage that. Make it like, chef and bartender are the same job but different job titles. How does "caterer" sound?

I think it's a lot easier to just increase the slot count. I can't think of any generic title that would really serve both roles, so it would just essentially be putting chef and bartender into sub-titles. Edited November 5, 2019 by Nantei

Not all Bartenders are Chefs and not all Chefs are Bartenders. I think changing the role like that adds more complication over just adding another slot. Edited November 6, 2019 by niennab
wowzewow Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 alright I guess so. However we may need to add new bartender locker, other than that easy to implement
BearSchwanz Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 +1, good bartenders keep the round going with a meeting point. Another slot increases the chances you don't just have a greytider.
Xevanthraxis Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 +1, as a bartender player myself It can either get very busy or very empty, and adding an extra slot for bartender will help with both extreams as well as in the middle. It can ease the load, and also help encourage RP.
Roostercat Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 +1, but only if the bar counter is made larger to fit the second slot, otherwise it would just get crowded.
Carver Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Maybe the pool's counter will actually see use.
